Whenever I see a homeless person, a question comes to my mind over and over again: “How can I actually help this person?” Today’s episode seeks to answer that question. I chat with two homeless ministry experts, Steve and Dave. They are both serving the Sacramento homeless community, and they were nice enough to share a phone call with me to try and answer this question. I hope you enjoy! Glory to God!!! This week’s content is the second episode I’ve produced highlighting personal stories of church hurt. Today, I get to talk with my best friend about HIS experience growing up in a church that struggled with domineering leadership. Like last week, I want to say that this episode is really exciting for me to release. Church Hurt is a massive topic, and there is no way to comprehensively cover or fix the issue in a 35 minute pod. That being said, I loved being able to highlight Sam’s story and his processing after the fact. Thank you Sam; thanks to Jenae for making this episode possible as well. Find good churches, leave bad churches, give glory to God by loving his bride! Glory to God! Follow Sam on Instagram! Follow Jenae on Instagram! Follow Roots on Instagram!
This week’s episode sounds a bit different than normal. Today, I get to do two things: 1) examine the Healy’s story of church hurt and 2) have a conversation with Israel Healy about the topic itself. This episode is really exciting for me to release. Church Hurt is a massive topic, and there is no way I did it justice in less than 40 minutes. That being said, I loved being able to highlight Israel’s family and the biblical processing they utilized in and through their experience. Thank you to Kris and Israel Healy for making this episode possible. I hope you all enjoy - glory to God! Follow Israel on Instagram! Follow Kris on Instagram! Follow Roots on Instagram!
Danielle Damrell is the host of the Created Worthy Podcast as well as a MILLION other very impressive things. She is a massive proponent of Creative Processing - a tool she has often used to effectively connect and heal with the Lord. On today’s episode, she sits down with me and talks about her testimony and her expertise. We talk a LOT about the Lord and how to relate to him through creativity, how to choose joy in chaos, and how to find miracles in the ordinary. I am so excited for you all to listen - please enjoy. What does “church unity” even mean during COVID disagreement? I have asked myself that question a lot during the last several months - today, I have the absolute pleasure of featuring a conversation with Keith Kauffman about that exact topic. If you want his resume, look it up or listen to the episode. For time’s sake, I’ll give you the short version: he’s an infectious disease researcher as well as a church elder… RIGHT?! The perfect guest for this topic. I could not be more excited to pick his brain for this episode. Please listen and enjoy. LET’S BE UNIFIED AS THE CHURCH! Glory to God always and forever! This is part 2/2 of my AWESOME conversation with Austin Fry about Habits of Grace. When Jesus says, “Remain in me,” what does that actually look like? Our discussion today is all about practial ways we can stay connected to the True Vine. Traditionally called “Spiritual Disciplines”, Habits of Grace are concrete practices that enable us to grow our relationship with God and transform us more into the image of Christ. In this episode, we break down the rest of the 10 habits, where they are seen in scripture, and ways you can implement them in your own life. I hope you enjoy! Follow Austin on Instagram! This is part 2/2 of a lovely conversation I had with Naoto and Nicole Barrett. What is the correct way of describing God’s “calling” for our lives? We aren’t in a very good starting place because our culture does not often define “calling” in a biblical way. On this episode of Roots, I get the opportunity to chat with my good friends Naoto and Nicole. They have learned a lot about what “calling” really means from a biblical perspective. I’m excited for you to join us in PART TWO of this fantastic discussion! Follow Naoto and Nicole on Instagram! Follow Roots on Instagram!

Here’s the bottom line, serving is NOT optional. Several months ago, I recorded a conversation with Tabitha North, the director of the nonprofit ministry, Agape Center in Lynchburg, VA. I have been very blessed to serve at Agape several times, and on today’s episode, we have a conversation about her roots in ministry and how she became the director of Agape LYH. We also dive into the profound impact Agape has had on the community and ways the body of Christ can bless Agape’s ministry going forward. At the end of today’s podcast, I lay out the biblical precedent for our need to serve. Short answer: Christ served us so we serve others. I really hope you listen! Have a great day! Are you glad to go to church? I think we’ve all experienced those Sundays where our bed seems incredibly more magnetic than our local church doors. Not only that, but I think we’ve all shared a fair bit of criticism towards our church intitutions and their many faults. Is this the totality of what God desires for his people and His Church?? In this episode, Ryan Murphy and I have an expositional conversation about Psalm 122 and its modern-day applications surrounding this topic. As we walked through this Psalm, we were both challenged and convicted about our own lack of reverence for God’s house, and I pray that our conversation convicts you as well! All glory and praise to God above - I hope God uses this podcast to put you in a church pew this Sunday! Follow Ryan on Instagram! Follow Roots on Instagram!
As Christians, Bible study is how we get to know God. As the primary mechanism that roots us to the Father, Bible reading is immeasurably significant to the life of the Saint. Despite its massive importance, many Christians admit that they do not spend enough time reading the word. Bible study can be daunting, intimidating, and downright confusing at times - but it doesn’t have to be that way. In this episode, I have the pleasure of interviewing Eva Kubasiak. She provides resources to help make Bible study simple! She has a true heart for the word and a true heart for God. We’ve all heard the saying, “Christianity is not about a religion: it’s about a relationship.” In this episode, my good friend Israel and I will examine this idea from a different perspective: Christianity is about a relationship AND a religion. There are many texts in the New Testament that emphasize the importance of doctrine, theology, and a religious framework. Join us as we dive into this nuanced conversation! In today’s climate, there are about as many disagreements as there are sand particles on Caribbean beaches. Sitting amongst these disagreements is the Church of Jesus Christ. With denominations galore and emotions running hot, how can we foster Church Unity in the face of disagreement? Tune in to hear Henry Lough and Alex Seeley chat about this difficult topic. Lord willing, the Spirit will move in his Church to reconcile God’s people to each other, and most importantly, Himself. Follow Henry on Instagram! Follow Roots on Instagram!
A root is the part of a plant that attaches to the ground or to a support - stabilizing and nurturing the rest of the body. In Christ’s Church, there are roots as well - scriptures, wisdom, and testimonies that testify to the character of God. These roots have a material impact, because they are true, and they root us to Christ himself, stabilizing us and nurturing us because it is He who is doing the stabilizing and the nurturing.
