Jesus declares Himself the true vine in John 15, calling us to remain connected to Him for spiritual sustenance. Just as branches cannot produce fruit when disconnected from a vine, we cannot live fruitfully apart from Christ. God acts as the gardener, pruning us for greater fruitfulness and removing what hinders our growth. Remaining in Christ means daily communication through prayer, studying Scripture, and following His commands to love. When we stay connected to Jesus, we experience His complete joy within us and bring glory to God through the fruit we bear.
'Of course, ‘body ‘and ‘vine' are both metaphors, used to help us imagine a truth, the depth of dependency on each other in Christ, that we would otherwise find impossible to grasp. Precisely how we are one body, branches of the one true vine, is deeply mysterious to us, but it is like this; like a body, like a vine. Baptism and Holy Communion enact this spiritual truth, not just as an idea, but as something practical, physical; to do with bodies and not just our minds.'Listen to a reflection for the Third Sunday of Lent by the Reverend Mark Birch, Canon Rector at the Abbey. Each week during Lent, the lectionary explores the life and work of Jesus of Nazareth from the perspective of the Gospel of John. One of the ways that John's gospel identifies what Jesus is like is through his ‘I Am' statements. From ‘I am the bread of life' to ‘I am the Good Shepherd', these seven statements help us learn who Jesus is, and what it means to follow Him as disciples. Our reflections will explore these statements throughout the forty days of this season.
What if the secret to a thriving spiritual life isn't trying harder… but staying connected? In John 15, Jesus reveals how His love nourishes our lives and produces fruit that lasts. In John 15, Jesus gives one of the most powerful pictures of the Christian life. He describes Himself as the vine and His followers as branches. Just as branches receive life and nourishment from the vine, believers must remain connected to Jesus in order to thrive. In this sermon from Covenant Church Doylestown, Tim Geiger explores what it means to abide in Christ and how God shapes our lives to bear spiritual fruit. In this message you'll learn: • What Jesus meant by “I am the true vine” • Why God sometimes prunes His people • How abiding in Christ produces joy and love • What real spiritual fruit looks like • Why Christian community is essential for growth Jesus' invitation is simple but life-changing: remain in Him.
John 15:1-11
PETE KELLEY, Lead Pastor / Third Sunday of Lent / John 15.1-12
In this message, Pastor B. explores Jesus' powerful statement that He is the True Vine. Through this image, Jesus teaches that real spiritual life only comes from being connected to Him. Just as branches depend on the vine for life and fruit, believers must depend on Christ for strength, growth, and purpose.Jesus contrasts Himself with Israel, which was often described in Scripture as God's vine but failed to produce the fruit God desired. In contrast, Jesus is the true and faithful vine, and those who remain in Him will bear lasting fruit. We also look at what it truly means to abide in Christ. Abiding involves obeying His Word, praying faithfully, trusting in His love, and loving others within the community of believers. As we remain connected to Him, God lovingly prunes our lives, through Scripture, our choices, and even seasons of suffering to shape us into the likeness of Christ and produce spiritual fruit.Jesus makes it clear that connection to Him is essential. Branches that remain in the vine flourish, but branches that disconnect eventually wither. Our life, growth, and fruitfulness all come from staying close to Him.Finally, we reflect on how Communion reminds us of this connection. Through His sacrifice, Jesus made a way for us to remain in Him and continually return to the life-giving source of the True Vine.
On the night before the cross, Jesus tells His disciples the secret of the Christian life. It isn't mechanical — as if we could simply try harder and produce spiritual fruit. The Christian life is horticultural: Fruit grows only where there is life flowing from the vine into the branch. We will see this Sunday how Israel was meant to be God's vineyard but failed, how Jesus was the True Vine, and how real spiritual life is found only in abiding in Him. Join us as we open God's Word together!

Not simply heart beating and breathing and going about the day. But a life of energy, vitality, and joy. A truly abundant life. John isn't writing so that we will survive in Jesus's name. He is writing so that we will thrive in Jesus's name. How?By knowing, understanding, and ultimately believing in Jesus. The entire gospel of John, everything that is written, is to help us get a clear picture of who Jesus is and why Jesus matters. So, for you - are tired of reaching for life and coming up empty? Are you tired of reaching for life in something temporary only to watch it go away over time? Jesus is not just life now, but abundant life for all eternity. If you want to know God, if you want to know life, then know Jesus. That is the purpose of the gospel of John, and that is what we will look at over the next several weeks as we seek to understand Jesus and come to believe in His name and have life in His name.
In this session, Erin Warren teaches through John 15. Jesus gives His final “I AM” Statement: I AM the True Vine. His call to abide in Him is a reminder that Jesus is our Source for life and sustains us through every circumstance, allowing us to bear fruit for God's glory. As Jesus prepares to leave them physically, Jesus' words bolster their faith, so they don't abandon faith in the face of opposition - both from the world and their community. When we abide and remain steadfast in Him and in His Word, the result is a changed life and we do not wither in hard circumstances. For more information on this study, go to FeastingOnTruth.com/JohnFor recommended resources, go to FeastingOnTruth.com/ResourcesFor booking inquiries, go to FeastingOnTruth.com/Speaking
Seven is a series built around the seven “I Am” statements of Jesus in the book of John. In these moments, Jesus explains who He is and why it matters for real life. Each statement speaks to a need we all have—purpose, direction, hope, and life—and shows us how Jesus meets us right where we are. This series is an invitation to see Jesus not as distant or theoretical, but present, personal, and deeply relevant.
This Sunday, Pastor Jon taught from John 15 and offered a different diagnosis for burnout. While our instinct is often to assume we've simply given too much, he challenged us with another possibility: the problem isn't output but source. We haven't been drawing from the right one. When Jesus calls himself the True Vine, it's one of the most sweeping claims He ever makes. From that foundation, Pastor Jon walked through what abiding actually looks like. It's not about a longer quiet time or more spiritual disciplines, it's about a relationship. Using his own early days dating his now-wife, Christy, as an illustration, he reminded us that abiding is less about effort and more about the security and overflow of a relationship you're already in. That's the kind of intimacy Jesus is inviting us into, and for those who remain in His love and rely on the Spirit's power, the promise is fruit that lasts.

Jesus teaches that the Christian life flows from who He is and what He has already accomplished, not from self-effort or emotional experience.Follow us: on Instagram instagram.com/emetministriesFollow Westwood Young Adult on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/youngadultwestwood?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==my reading list: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/74696644-christian-barrettChapters: 00:00 – We All Want Joy (Why Everyone Is Searching for Peace)03:30 – What Is Biblical Joy? Sermon - "I Am the True Vine" - Pastor Barry HughesSupport the show
Pastor Randy continued the Book of John sermon series with a sermon titled , "Who is Jesus? "The True Vine." from John 15:1-25. Jesus, the True Vine, calls us to be: 1. FRUITFUL. (vs. 1-8) 2. FRIENDS. (vs. 9-17) 3. FAITHFUL. (vs. 18-25)
Abiding in the true vine gives the Christian all they require for a fruitful joyous life.
In this message we explore what Jesus meant when He said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches.” We will examine the background of the vine in Scripture, the meaning of abiding in Christ, the pruning work of the Father, and the fruit that flows from a life truly connected to Him.
Dwell on the truth that in Jesus we live and move and have our being. To simply rest as a branch of the Vine, is to trust that we will be fed from the root. Our leaves will not wither and what we do will prosper. We will bear the fruit of the vine as long as we remain a part of it, and it a part of us.Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. In this sermon, Pastor Dave begins a new focus on being a “community on mission” by turning to Jesus' words in John 15. He unpacks what it means for Christ to be the True Vine and for believers to abide in Him, showing why this calling is both essential and difficult. Through images of pruning, fruit, and friendship with Jesus, this message reveals how lasting joy and faithful mission flow not from doing more for God, but from staying deeply connected to Him together.

At the end of John 14 Jesus declares, "My peace I give to you... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). Then in John 15 Jesus gives a beautiful illustration of how His disciples lives would be deeply dependent on His own life. He declared, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). Join us as we unpack these very powerful truths!
Pastor JT continues our series in John 15. Jesus is calling us to abide with Him. The fruitful life can only be found connected to the True Vine, the giver and the gift.
The metaphor of the vine and the branches in John 15 illustrates the intimate relationship between Christ and believers. In this episode, Eric Alexander presents Jesus as the true vine, emphasizing the great purpose and significance of our abiding in Him. “Backsliding” • Hebrews 6:4-9 – Elder Bryce Lowrance In a passage very similar to the “I Am the True Vine” teaching in John 15, the Apostle Paul warns born again children of God to do turn away from the truth and peace that is in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who do are not in danger of losing their eternal salvation but they will fill their lives with destruction and sorrow apart from the fellowship of God. Paul also warns that this condition can get so bad that, apart from Divine intervention, they cannot be convinced to repent and return to their Christian walk. Part 2 begins with a partner text in Ephesians 1. This message was preached on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Are you producing fruit… or just staying busy? This week's message, “Remain in Him,” takes us into Jesus' words in John 15 — where He reminds us that real spiritual life doesn't come from effort, activity, or good intentions, but from connection.Jesus doesn't call us to strive harder. He calls us to remain. In a culture that celebrates independence and self-sufficiency, Jesus speaks a countercultural truth:“Apart from Me, you can do nothing.”We'll explore what it means to abide in Christ, why pruning is part of God's loving care, and how lasting fruit only grows from a living connection with the True Vine.If you've ever felt spiritually tired, dry, or disconnected — this message is for you.
Pastor Darrell continues to look at John 15:1-17 where we are called to abide in Christ, the True Vine, who is the source of love, our nourishment, and our fruit-bearing life. We are encouraged to ask ourselves: What are some false vines you find yourself especially vulnerable to, rather than the True Vine, who is Jesus?
