The idea for the Invisibobble began to form in Sophie‘s first semester at University. University is a time in a girl‘s life where she wears her hair up constantly. Whether you put it up whilst studying to avoid it getting in the way of your books or on a night out when you want to keep from getting too hot, it is an everyday necessity.Sophie loved the ponytail look but one thing kept bothering her. She suffered from headaches every morning and always had that kink in her hair that we all know and hate. Now we won't spoil it for the podcast but that was the motivation behind Invisibobble. It's now being distributed in over 70 countries worldwide!A bit about SistrSistr's, a dedicated platform for women to connect, share and learn. Founder Em Roberts talks about all things BIRD + WOLF……When I was growing up my mother had a boutique selling second hand designer clothes. Women used to come to the shop and sell their unwanted or unworn designer clothes and of course, buy more whilst there! It was the perfect example of sustainable shopping – and that was back in 1985!So, when I was searching for ‘army style’ jackets I realised the answer was staring me in the face. Use the real thing! Not only does the durability and the quality of the products surpass a lot of todays factory made clothes, the sustainability factor was a no brainer. From my experience working in my mothers boutique to use clothes that were already made seemed to me to be a very ethical and sensible thing to do. I love that many of our jackets have had a journey, I love the distressed look of them.I love the wear and tear and some have the most amazing darning work on the collars! Also, some have the most incredible array of badges. Another element of Bird + Wolf, that I love is it’s gender neutrality. I remember getting annoyed as I kid that mens and womenswear was separated. To be dictated which type of clothes to wear kind of got to me. Why couldn’t I go into the mens department and buy that t- shirt or that jacket? I felt as a teenage girl people would be looking at me weirdly. Why couldn’t all the clothes be in one section?’ Why do we have to be told what certain genders should wear? That is why I love the fact that all our clothes can be worn by everyone.A bit about SistrSistr's, a dedicated platform for women to connect, share and learn. In this episode, we talk to two of the women behind Losing Grace. A short film highlighting the impact of domestic abuse.https://greenlit.fund/project/losing-graceThe StoryLosing Grace is a gripping short film thriller that keeps audiences guessing and leaves them with their hearts in their throats. Grace is forced to flee with her mother Louise, from her abusive father, John, only to be tracked down with dire consequences.Louise has suffered years of psychological abuse at the hands of John. But getting help has proven difficult. Feeling her own sanity fraying, and failing to convince anyone that her charming and respectable husband is the culprit, she is left with no alternative but to run where he can’t find her or their daughter Grace. Desperate to protect Grace she forces her to abandon her life and go on the run. With no access to money and support, Louise is desperate. But Grace is saddled with a fragile mother for whom she feels responsible, even when she can’t see the reasons for her decisions. Grace longs to be normal and hang out with friends, but her mother’s unstable state takes its toll. This is a short film, 12 minutes, and like all great short films, subtlety is key. Louise's emotions are heightened and what is true and what is not, teeters on the edge. We want to bring this world of fear to the audiences, to put them inside the grey area of reality - how things may appear and how things may feel when one is inside them. How do we know when someone is ever telling us the truth?A bit about SistrSistr's, a dedicated platform for women to connect, share and learn. For episode 3 we interview Celia Pool from DAME.Celia and Alec are two friends committed to reducing the environmental impact of the products we use every day, starting with tampons. Back in 2015 they ran a period subscription service, delivering a whole range of branded products to women across the UK. It was here they saw first-hand the impact tampons were having on our bodies and the planet. At DAME they're focusing on personal care - rethinking the small items used by millions of us every day. There philosophy is that the allure of good design and the strength of innovation can make the sustainable, desirable. For our second episode, we're joined by Co-Founder of Motley Ilana Lever. Cecily and Ilana, met at university way back when - looked at the jewellery industry, and thought it needed fixing. Cecily, who worked in the rather niche sector of art-jewellery for many years, saw that the leading jewellery designers – sculptors, engineers and artists all in one - weren’t being recognised for their brilliance. Ilana was frustrated by the ‘buy this and she will love you’ antiquated marketing of heritage brands. And we were both were fed up of settling for good looking jewellery that broke, or uninspiring commercial design. We wanted to buy truly great jewellery for themselves – while trying to avoid their overdraft. So we made Motley.A bit about SistrSistr's, a dedicated platform for women to connect, share and learn.
