Feeling Good Podcast | TEAM-CBT - The New Mood Therapy

Getting to Know David David Answers Personal Questions! We all know David Burns as the creator of TEAM-CBT, but not many people get to know David, the person. It is fun to know David the person, because he is just like all of us. He is a real person (not a robot), full of life and love. I want everyone in our audience to be able to relate to David on a deeper level, to feel a sense of connection with him, and hopefully for all of us to build our sense of community with each other. Thanks so much to Stan Dickens, TEAM UK, for submitting these questions and sparking this discussion. The complete list of questions was much longer, but I (Rhonda) have selected the ones listed below. I hope you like listening to this podcast, Rhonda The questions are not necessarily in the order listed below, but all are answered on this podcast. David's answers are all 100% spontaneous, and you will hear them on the podcast! Music & Entertainment 1.  Which band do you like most, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones? (David, please say The Beatles!) 2.  Following on from that, what kind of music do you listen to? Can you tell us about some of your favorite musicians, bands, or composers? It is a privilege to welcome online transformation coach and Reality TV star Jenny West to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.  Jenny was first introduced to international audiences when she debuted on ITV's Survival of the Fittest's inaugural season. The show focused on young men and women who traveled to a South African savanna and competed in physical and mental challenges against each other.  The show stood out because the contestants had to go on dates with their rival teammates, which were designed to test loyalties and group strength. Like Love Island UK, the winners won a cash prize at the end of the show, and along the way, the viewers decided who stayed and were sent home.  In 2019, Jenny West debuted on MTV's long-running Reality TV series, The Challenge. Her debut season, The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2, saw her join Team UK, which contained a diverse group of rookies including Nicole Bass, Sean Lineker, and Tula "Big T" Fazakerley, established UK veterans Georgia Harrison, Joss Mooney, Kayleigh Morris, Kyle Christie, Rogan O'Connor, Stephen Bear, and Theo Campbell, and reinforcements CT Tamburello and Dee Nguyen. During her time on Team UK, Jenny was sent into elimination twice. While she won the "Trapped" elimination against fellow rookie Nicole Bass, show veteran Tori Deal defeated her in the Hall Brawl elimination.  In 2020, Jenny returned to compete on The Challenge: Total Madness. She won four daily challenges and eliminated Jenn Lee and War of the Worlds 2 champion Dee Nguyen in the Flip the Switch and Hall Brawl eliminations. Eventually, she made her first final and won the season.  Currently, Jenny West returned to The Challenge: Battle of the Eras to compete on the Era Four team alongside some of her generation's heavy hitters, including Theo, Kaycee Clark, Kyland Young, Horacio Gutiérrez, Nurys Mateo, and longtime Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar friend Paulie Calafiore.  When she is not on Reality TV, Jenny is working on her online fitness program Future Proof Fitness (FPF). FPF helps women over 30 unleash s- hot transformations. Using the company's app, her clients can find ways to lose body fat, tone up, and crush their goals.  On this special edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Jenny West spoke about her passion for fitness, crossing the finish line on The Challenge: Total Madness, and returning to the show to compete on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.Let's connect on social media! Feeling Good Podcast | TEAM-CBT - The New Mood Therapy

A British Family Doctor on Burnout, Recovery and T.E.A.M in 10 Minute Consultations! Today, Rhonda and David interview Dr. Tom Gedman, a family doctor in England and one of the founders of TEAM-UK, along with Dr. Peter Spurrier who has also been a guest on a Feeling Good Podcast. Rhonda started the podcast with a kind email from an enthusiastic podcast fan who loved our podcasts with Dr. Mark Noble (#167 and #265) on the “Brainology” of TEAM-CBT. He said these podcasts were “pure gold” and appreciated a look behind the curtains to see how TEAM actually worked at the level of the brain. Tom described his burn out episodes, which started during his third year of medical school, resulting from a familiar theme—the belief that he was inferior and just not “good enough.” His inferiority complex was a severe, total body experience, with “horrible thoughts” for six months. After he recovered, he worried about going into that state again. And the stress returned again during his medical internship. He explained that as a General Practitioner (GP) in the British medical system, you only have ten minutes for each patient, and felt like all the pressure was on him to get it right, and stated that “the pressure broke me.” In Britain, you can get free therapy as a GP, and went to Dr. Peter Spurrier for help. Peter was using the TEAM-CBT he'd learned when he came to California the previous summer for one of David's four-day intensives, and Tom described him as “a natural. We made a deep connection right away and the Positive Reframing really clicked!” Tom's negative thoughts included: 1. I'm not good enough. 2. I'll fail my patients. 3. I'll do them harm. 4. I'm not smart enough. 5. I'll never be normal. He explained that the last thought triggered feelings of hopelessness, which really was the worst emotion of all. He discovered the Feeling Good Podcasts and listened to about 200 of them in just two weeks! And after two or three hour-long sessions with Peter, he recovered and actually felt like he was on a “high” for about six months. He says, “I had almost limitless confidence!” Then he had an as-predicted relapse which disappeared after a 30-minute tune-up with Peter. Tom said that the he'd always admired Carl Rogers, who emphasized empathy, and began using the Five Secrets of Effective Communication in his medical practice. This helped him clinically, and he discovered that “you don't always have to ‘help;' skillful listening is often enough. For example, patients often have to wait for months to be seen medically, and they're angry and frustrated at first. I acknowledge their frustration and let them know that I feel sad as well. This calms them down immediately.” He also gave an example of how trying to “help” a man with agoraphobia simply put the man into a state of rage. “I tried to convince him that exposure would be good for him, but we just got into an argument, and he threatened to report me to the authorities to have my medical license revoked! That experience taught me something really important about ‘helping.' Many people have intense resistance and just want to be heard and understood.” For example, one of his patients was in tears because of her father's Parkinson's Disease. The patients was helped greatly by learning He that her emotional distress was actually her love for her father, and she suddenly felt proud of her “symptoms.” Another patient with a massive opiate addiction opened up about a severely disturbing childhood incident he'd never before talked about, and then was able to cut his opiate use “way down.” We also discussed Tom's new plans for his medical practice, working with indigent individuals, and explored the possibility of testing my Feeling Good App with this population for free to see how they would take to it. He discovered that a group in England has “stolen” my names, and also have a “Feeling Good App” and a “Feeling Good Podcast,” which causes me considerable distress. We may have to rename our app the “Real Feeling Good App,” or some such name! Dr. Tom can be reached at BlueprintMedical.co.UK or at DrTomGedman.com. Tom, Rhonda, and I would also like to urge any listeners in or near England to attend the upcoming four day TEAM-CBT intensive in England from August 14 – 17th. This four day training conference will be awesome and only costs 440 pounds. Participants will receive 38 CPD points as well as credits in the TEAM-CBT certification program. For more information about the conference, go to www.TEAMCBT.UK. Thanks for listening! Rhonda, Tom, and David

Today on The Best Version of You podcast we are joined by Darren Hardy, a former British Army Officer and now the CEO of Fortitude Front . A leadership training company, which specialises in Mental Resilience. Darren Hardy was developed as a leader during his 15 years' Service in the British Army, where from joining as a Soldier in 2003, Darren stood out as a natural leader. As an athlete he became a Physical Training Instructor and it was from here he was selected to go through Officer training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. On completion of the 44 week arduous leadership course, Darren received the Queen's Commission and, as an Officer, took his troops all over the world, developing himself and others in a leadership capacity - often in life threatening and extremely testing environments. At the age of 31 Darren's career was brought to an end through suffering physical and mental injuries during the Iraq war. His PTSD was dormant and came about totally unexpectedly whilst dealing with a severely burnt casualty on exercise in Canada. On the road to recovery Darren had to focus on becoming mentally resilient to match his physical prowess and it is the fusion of the two (mental and physical) that sets Darren's leadership apart – he went on to become a Gold Medallist and record breaker representing Team UK in the Warrior Games 2018 in the 100m and 200m sprint. As Darren was focusing on his own recovery he was troubled to learn of the 71 Veteran suicides in 2018. Although Darren recovered successfully, the system was failing so many. Why were so many being failed? Where was the system letting people down? Darren's research identified that where this challenge was faced by the British Military, there was a greater, shared challenge for corporate industries. Darren created Fortitude Front to fill these gaps. His desire to change lives in all industries came from his own personal experiences overcoming physical and mental injuries through multiple coping strategies. Darren is a widely celebrated expert in Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG). Mission Statement: To CHANGE negative organisational cultures surrounding mental health and INSPIRE others to speak out by DEVELOPING leaders and communication strategy with partners in industry.
