Episode 21! Healing is nonlinear, that is one of the most important life lessons I have come to learn in my short 25 years. In this episode, we discuss that, along with gratitude, and life in general. We also discuss the pause I will be taking from this podcast, possible indefinitely but nothing is concrete! I will keep this short and sweet, just like the episode, and I am grateful for the healing this space has given me. Thank you for listening :) --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soulshine4444/support
Episode 20! For this episode, we talk about the peace that can be found from both rejection and rejecting. There will always be a sting involved when you are rejected, and even when you are rejecting someone and/or something else. However, there are always hidden nuggets of gratitude that can be found in those experiences! Specifically, there are gifts of redirection and protection, which has always given me comfort in moments of rejection. I hope you find some medicine or connection with stories I share in this episode, and when another inevitable experience of rejection/rejecting comes around you feel more equipped to take it on. As always, thank you for listening :) --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soulshine4444/support
Episode 19! Ooooh baby this is a vulnerable one. But haven't they always been? This one feels especially important to me though, because I've officially been single for a year. It was a goal I set for myself, and a goal I achieved for myself. I could not be more proud and grateful for the experiences along the way! I'll keep this description short, and let the episode speak for itself. Thank you as always for listening, wherever you are in life when you listen to this I hope it is in a space of peace and gratitude. :) P.S. a song that sums up this episode - “SUPERBLOOM” by: MisterWives Spiritual teacher mentioned: https://www.maryamhasnaa.com https://www.instagram.com/maryamhasnaa/?hl=en --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soulshine4444/support
Episode 18! The Ego - a word we've all heard before whether it be related to Sigmund Freud, an insult thrown at someone who is full of themselves, or the Beyoncé song. Those explanations of the ego are only part of what the ego actually is. In this episode, we discuss the spiritual explanation of the ego and how to know when it is the ego that is speaking up, versus another part of you such as your intuition. The ego can be mean, it can be over-protective, and it can try to keep you from implementing change in your life. Nevertheless, it is a part of who you are and deserves to be understood and loved just the same. We can love a part of ourselves without letting it control our every move, thought, and belief! Ego work is an important part of any spiritual practice, as well as living your life to the fullest in complete freedom. I invite you to learn more about your own ego, what it's voice sounds like for you, and how you can move forward building a healthier relationship with it so that you can experience what life feels like outside of the walls of the ego. SPECIAL BONUS EPISODE ALERT! I cannot put into words how excited I am to share this collaboration. Maureen is a friend of 15 years, and someone who inspired me to begin my spiritual journey in full force many years ago. In this episode we discuss the Lunar New Year (which occurred on 2/13), and delve into its medicine through tarot, animal spirit oracles, and our own thoughts. If you prefer to watch instead of solely listen, I have posted a link to the video recording down below. I'm wishing you all a (belated) Happy Lunar New Year and am wishing everyone so much love and abundance over the course of this new cycle. Episode 17! This episode is all about peace. An oftentimes taken for granted part of life, peace is a feeling that comes when we are able to fully be present with who we are and what is going on around us. Being at peace with the present does not mean we are accepting of chaos or drama in our lives, but instead that we know it is not forever and it does not make up who we are. Peace can be found in many areas of life, but it has to be prioritized and protected to remain a part of you. Whether you're on a walk, cooking a delicious meal, reading a fantastic book, or laughing with those you love - peace can be found in those moments, and peace is always defined by you. I wish everyone who listens, and reading this, ultimate peace and acceptance in life. Remember - peace may feel a little boring at first, but its benefits will always outweigh that which distracts us from who we truly are. *The 15 Minute Guided Meditation begins at 30:10 The poet/poetry mentioned: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/14053454.Sandra_Sturtz_Hauss Songs mentioned: "Peace" by Taylor Swift - https://open.spotify.com/album/3s1uBurAzg61IQYXRc3B3h?highlight=spotify:track:0DScbHIWHODy3OVk6b62fa "Good Days" by SZA - https://open.spotify.com/album/781cKhbTPwLnPmo9BALQl7 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soulshine4444/support
Episode 16! In this episode we discuss sensitivity. Being a sensitive person, the complicated narratives a sensitive person can have in their minds about what sensitivity is, viewing it as a weakness or a burden instead of a blessing, and a few other ramblings that I can thank red wine for! I have always been a highly sensitive person, and it was not until 2020 forced me (and the world) to slow down that I began to think more about how I can use my sensitivity and make friends with it instead of continuing the fight against it. It was not easy, it still is not easy, but embracing your sensitivity or the sensitive person(s) in your life for who they are only brings more goodness into your life. The world would be better off with a little more sensitivity and compassion, and extending a hand to that part of yourself is one step closer to that. My hope for you, and everyone listening to this episode or not, is to sit with the sensitive parts of who you are and those around you and pay attention to what they are telling you. This does not always mean crying, but in fact usually results in smiles and an elevated mood :). Thank you for listening, remember to take care of your superpowers! Episode 15 (also the first episode of Season 2 and 2021)! In this episode, we talk all about boundaries - what they are, what they look like, and how they can make you feel. Boundaries are a necessary part of everyones lives, but are not always used. There is no Boundaries 101 course everyone is required to take when they're born, so therefore it is up to each individual to learn and grow with their boundaries. Boundaries can be scary, uncomfortable, and confusing, but the short term anxieties around them are worth the long term peace they bring into your life. If you are like me, defining boundaries can be extremely difficult, but taking the time to think through what they mean to you can make a huge difference in your relationships with others and with yourself. I challenge you to take that time, and choose to love yourself with your great, big, beautiful boundaries. Episode 13! (Lucky number 13?) In this episode, we discuss the inner child within all of us. We all at some point in our childhood experienced big emotions that were too difficult to process, and those emotions are usually carried with us through adulthood if they are not processed. The act of processing those emotions with your inner child is inner child healing. It is a wonderful, sometimes difficult, way to connect with all parts of you - including the parts that you did not even know were there. It is also a great excuse to add more play and goofiness into your life ;) Take some time to talk with your inner little one and you will form a deeper connection within yourself. Episode 12 (my favorite number)! This episode is all about loooove - the importance of love, how it is much more than the feeling you feel in a romantic relationship, and blockages around accepting and/or giving love. Love is all around you, every day, wherever you are, no matter if you choose to pay attention or not. I promise you if you do take a moment to pay attention, you'll be able to see just how surrounded you are by love. I also encourage you to take some time after listening to think deeper about how you can show love more in your daily life, to yourself and others. It will only fill your cup up that much higher. Episode 11! In this episode, we focus on the 2020 Presidential Election results and the difference between a moral and a political victory. Intertwined with that discussion is how toxic masculinity and white feminism are a part of U.S systems. They are two important topics discussed briefly and with a focus on election exit polls, so they are by no means discussed in their entirety. Nevertheless, they are two facets of society that have not gone away solely because a new president was elected so I urge you to think deeper about that. Thank you for listening. Episode 10! It's hard to believe we're in the double digits of episodes now, and what an episode to get here with. More often than not, Anger is an emotion that is a blanket over deeper emotions that you may feel you are not ready to reconcile with. Anger is a protector, it means well and can come from a place of love, but ultimately it is not meant to be a permanent guest in your mind. We have all been angry, for a many different reasons, and that feeling is one that always deserves a conversation (even if it is to tell yourself you are getting angry over something not worth your energy)! My hope for you, as well as myself, is that when anger arises you are able to sit with it and understand the source of your pain. Most importantly, make sure if you are choosing to move through your anger by venting to another person that you ask their permission first - we are all going through many emotions at any given time and it is best not to unload on someone you care about before you ask if they are in the right headspace to hear it. Thank you for listening. *Around 38:45 I had forgotten to plug my microphone back in before recording for about a minute so the audio is super soft, so my apologies!* Yung Pueblo Links: - https://www.instagram.com/yung_pueblo/?hl=en - https://twitter.com/YungPueblo?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor - https://www.amazon.com/Yung-Pueblo/e/B07HGV13ZJ%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soulshine4444/support
Episode 9! Being in the present moment and living in gratitude are pillars of life that oftentimes can be taken for granted. In this episode, we discuss how it can be difficult to live in the present moment because it must remain an active choice to do so. It is far too easy sometimes to be stuck in the past or the future, and neglect the beauty of the present moment you are living in. Even as I write this, I am enjoying the sound the laptop keys make as I type and the chirping of the birds outside. With living in the present also comes a heightened level of gratitude. Similarly to living in the present, living gratefully is also an active choice you must make every day. I discuss some ways I have incorporated gratitude in my daily life, and also how it can be difficult to remember to actually BE grateful sometimes. I promise you that once you start embracing the present moments for what they are and sit in gratitude for your life (no matter what comes up), you will feel more at peace. Lastly, I acknowledge that I speak on this subject from a place of immense privilege. I am in a position where I do not have to worry about where my next meal will come from, if I will be able to pay rent, etc. Along with feeling grateful for what you have, you also have to remember those who may need some extra light sent their way. Thank you for listening. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soulshine4444/support
Episode 8! One is silver and the other's gold. Let's talk about friendship...the ups and downs of friendship, losing friends, having to end friendships, navigating conflict within friendships, and making new friends. It became clearer to me as I recorded this episode that I'm not so good at giving advice on how to make new friends, but thinking about what friendship means to you will help you get there. Friends can be life long, come in and out of your life, or only stay for a short while. All in all, they can teach you so much about yourself and what you want your relationships to look like with others. I hope you take some time out today to think about how grateful you are for the friends in your life, whether thats one person or ten people - friendship is a beautiful thing. Episode 7! In this episode, we talk allll about spirituality - at least MY version of it. Every single person who considers themselves "spiritual" is going to understand it in a different way. For me, my version of spirituality includes meditation, chakra healing, crystals, connecting with my intuition, connecting with my spirit guides/angels/ancestors/higher self, tarot, deciphering my ego vs. my soul, and astrology. I want to make it very clear that I am a beginner, I learn new things every day about what spirituality means to me and I by no means stick to a strict routine surrounding how I feed my soul. I hope that if you are interested, or dabble in some of these aspects of spirituality yourself, that you listen and maybe try something new. At the very least, I hope you find a way to listen and connect more with your soul - we all have one, and they are all in need of some nurturing. Thank you for listening! Episode 6! We are discussing all things vulnerability. Talking about vulnerability in and of itself is vulnerable, which made this episode an interesting one to record. Vulnerability is never a given, and in fact takes strength to choose and to incorporate into your life. It adds magic and peace into your every day, but requires a bit of uncomfortableness initially as it is a reach out of the comfort zone. But who wants to stay in their comfort zone forever when there are vast emotions to be felt and experiences to be had once you choose to be vulnerable? I hope you take some time to truly think about what it means to be vulnerable, how you may be blocking yourself from vulnerability (even in the relationship you have with yourself), and what you can do now and into the future to practice being more vulnerable. *To anyone that may be triggered by a discussion about depression and anxiety, you may want to skip this episode.* Episode 5! Mental health is an important topic to discuss, now more than ever. I, personally, have experienced difficulty with my mental health my whole life and I discuss that in more detail in this episode. I pull from my own experience in order to start a dialogue about what has worked for me in the past and in the present in regards to coping & healing. I do not want to pretend I know what is best for those who have experienced different or more difficult mental health issues than myself, and because of that my knowledge/ability to speak about depression, anxiety, and mental health in general may be limited. It is important to always be open to conversations about mental health because of the powerful stigma that is woven into society. Stigma has silenced many individuals on speaking about and seeking help for their own mental health concerns - myself having been one of them. I urge anyone and everyone to try therapy to see if it's for you, and to start normalizing checking in on your friends and family. You may surprise yourself, and you may become a better and healthier version of you because of it. Episode 4! There were parts of this episode where the audio was a little off due to the microphone, and for whatever reason my "P's" were pronounced loudly for most of the episode - so, apologies ahead of time if that bothers anybody. More importantly, on this episode we discuss what being "single" (or independent in general) means in relation to self love. It is so important to be comfortable alone and enjoy life regardless of having a partner or not. That's where self love comes in! Loving yourself means enjoying being your own dinner date, your own hiking buddy, and your own best friend. There is immense freedom in loving yourself so radically that you enjoy being by yourself in life, and enjoy your independence when you do find a partner (if that is what you ultimately desire). Your inner world reflects that which you will find in your external world, and when you're in love with and at peace with yourself you will find the same in the external. I hope you tell yourself "I Love You" today. Even if you feel like you don't mean it in the moment, it's the first step towards true freedom. Episode 3! This episode is part 1 of a 2 part series about self-love (even though it is a topic that will be included in almost every episode in the future due to its importance and necessity for personal growth). After you experience a difficult heartbreak, it is difficult to connect with your own sense of self love. My hopes for this episode is that it allows people to think deeper about their own sense of self love and how it can improve, and how to heal wounds connected with past and/or present heartbreak they have experienced. This feels like my most vulnerable episode to date, but it is necessary when it comes to sharing about pain and what you've learned from overcoming it. EPISODE 2! In this episode, we discuss race - specifically what it means to be a white person today. As a white woman in today's society, I hold immense privilege solely because of my race. This is my small attempt to use that privilege to be heard by other white people who may or may not be thinking about race critically on a day to day basis. We begin with another, more formal, introduction to the podcast and dive right in to the subject. White privilege, performative activism, and institutional racism are all terms that a white person should be familiar with. If you're not, join the discussion. As you will hear in the episode, this was recorded prior to me figuring out any of the details about what the podcast would be called, what my cover art would be, and so on.
