In part two of this three-part series, retired FBI agent Scott comes face to face with a key second suspect in the Oklahoma City bombing. What follows is an hours-long interview that requires as much patience as it does skill. The suspect's story shifts and changes, and Scott has to navigate every contradiction carefully, pushing just enough without pushing too far. One wrong move and it all falls apart. Scott needs this to hold up in court.Retired FBI agent R. Scott Crabtree was born in Herington, KS and raised in Omaha, NE. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps before getting his college degree in accounting, aconomics, and business. During his nearly 25 years career with the Bureau, Scott was assigned to five different field offices, including New York City, their largest office, and the Salina, KS, Resident Agency, a one-person office, as well as two tours at FBIHQ in Washington D.C. Scott was the lead Kansas investigator of the Oklahoma City Bombing. He later led the Cyber Crime Squad in New York where he worked cases including the "I Love You" virus. After that, he led a rapid task force in Seattle that helped capture the D.C. snipers. After his retirement, Scott was recruited by a non-profit contractor firm where he was able to continue his work supporting and enabling operational, intelligence and information-sharing functions in numerous law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Scott's book about his work with the Oklahoma City bombing case, called Under 80 Hours, was published in 2025.
Most people think better communication is about saying the right thing. But sometimes it starts with admitting when you're wrong. In this conversation, I sit down with Danica McKellar to talk about the lessons she's learned through parenting, faith, and personal growth. We discuss why apologizing to your kids builds trust, how to stay connected to a teenager who seems distant, and the surprising realization that most of your relationship with your child will happen after they become an adult. We also talk about forgiveness, anxiety, letting go of control, and why some of the most meaningful moments in life are the ones we slow down long enough to notice. It's Opey Olagbaju time! We met Opey when Naomi did stand-up on the wonderful, canceled-too-soon New Negroes show and are just delighted by him! Opey was recently showcased by Netflix as part of The Shortlist, was one of Time Out Magazine's ''Favorite Comedians on the Rise" last year, was a New Face at Just for Laughs, and has generally accrued all the accolades a stand-up can get in the first half of their career. Add to that writing for shows like I Love You, America, Close Enough and Bob Hearts Abishola, and baby, you got a crock pot brimming with credits! But have those things made Opey *happy*? She used to ask "how could anybody do that?" Then it happened to her family. Laura & Aaron Beck were devoted parents who, like many, were in the habit of judging other parents who left their child in the back seat of a car until the day it happened to them. In this episode, Laura shares the circumstances leading up to the accident, her new perspective on parenting, how you can prevent hot car infant death & how her non-profit is working for helpful legislative & automobile industry change. This church podcast message powerfully centers on FAITH, FATHERHOOD, DISCIPLESHIP, and SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP, calling believers—especially fathers—to embrace their DIVINE ASSIGNMENT to lead their families in a way that POINTS CHILDREN TO JESUS CHRIST. It emphasizes that true fatherhood goes beyond provision and success, focusing instead on LOVE, GUIDANCE, CORRECTION, and being a GODLY EXAMPLE through daily actions. Fathers are encouraged to be VULNERABLE, to say “I LOVE YOU,” to admit “I WAS WRONG,” and to walk in HUMILITY and REPENTANCE, true strength is not emotional distance but a CHRIST-CENTERED LIFE. The message reinforces that children learn more from what we DO than what we SAY, highlighting the importance of modeling OBEDIENCE, HOLINESS, and a genuine RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. At the heart of the church's mission is REACHING THE LOST, RESTORING THE BROKEN, and REVIVING BELIEVERS, which begins in the home through intentional DISCIPLESHIP and building a strong SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION. Families are called to establish FAMILY DEVOTIONS and a FAMILY ALTAR, creating a sacred space where PRAYER, WORSHIP, and the WORD OF GOD shape the hearts of the next generation. This intentional dedication fosters a place of GOD'S PRESENCE, PEACE, PROTECTION, and PURPOSE, preparing children to stand firm in a fallen world and follow GOD'S CALLING wherever He leads. The message also underscores the importance of DEDICATION TO JESUS CHRIST above all else, reminding believers that faith must be lived out with PURPOSE, PASSION, and SACRIFICE. Serving in God's house is not just a duty but an act of WORSHIP, done wholeheartedly as unto the Lord, recognizing that every act of service contributes to advancing the KINGDOM OF GOD. Through PERSONAL DEVOTION, fathers receive the strength, WISDOM, and ANOINTING needed to lead effectively, as their authority flows from their intimate relationship with their HEAVENLY FATHER. Ultimately, this message is a call to ACTION—encouraging believers that it is NEVER TOO LATE to change, to STEP UP, and to build or rebuild a LEGACY OF FAITH. By choosing OBEDIENCE, CONSISTENCY, and SPIRITUAL INTENTIONALITY, families can create a lasting SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE marked by FAITH, COURAGE, REPENTANCE, and GENERATIONAL IMPACT, ensuring that the truth of God is passed down and that future generations are equipped to LIVE FOR CHRIST and GLORIFY GOD in all they do.

We would love to hear from you. Send us your thoughts or suggestions. The Way Home Season 4 Episode 8 just handed us one of the biggest Sam moments of the season, and we need to talk about it. Did Elliot just invite his mother to her own death? We think he might have, and that parallel with Kat is not a coincidence. We're breaking down everything in S4 E8 of The Way Home, including the Sam bombshell at dinner, the tarot card the show quietly got wrong, why Evelyn's isolation has been foreshadowed since Season 3, and the Jacob and Abby "I love you" moment that was very, very Hallmark. What you'll see in this episode:• Why Kat and Elliot are practically the same person, and why that makes them both terrifying with a time pond nearby• Sam finally lets on that he knows about the pond, and what that reveal actually means for the final episodes• The Hermit tarot card from Season 3 that was drawn upright when it should have been reversed, and why flipping it would have perfectly predicted who Evelyn becomes• Fern and Elliot singing at the piano with Cliff in the room, and the moment Tessa walks in and says that's the song she would have sung to him• Why Jacob and Abby said "I love you" before asking a single practical question about their actual lives• Our biggest fear for the finale: too many unanswered questions, not enough runway to land them0:00 - Season 3 Rewatch Check-In and Season 4 Feelings4:30 - Episode 8 Breakdown: Tainted Love or Time After Time?8:00 - What We Liked: Tessa Reveals, Evelyn's Isolation and Cliff's Surprise Move12:30 - Sam Knows About the Pond (And What That Changes)16:00 - What We Didn't Like: The Most Hallmark "I Love You" of the Season19:30 - Standout Scene: Fern, Elliot and the Piano21:30 - What We're Expecting from the Next Episodes23:10 - Next Episode: Nikki DeLoachDrop your theory about Sam in the comments. It's as if 007 went to prison for decades, was let out by government guys played by John Spencer & William Forsythe and then he had to help a nerdy Nicolas Cage save hostages on a deserted island. Well, hold up, that IS the plot of The Rock! Michael Bay's action movie is deeper than you might expect, with Ed Harris playing a superstar Marine general who becomes a terrorist…with sympathetic complexity. Cage is the out-of-his-element expert on chemical weapons who teams with Sean Connery's Bond-like ex-spy who once escaped from Alcatraz. The flick is a Bay/Bruckheimer/Simpson collab so it's gaudy, loud, tart-tongued and very exciting. Those 2 Mexican stand-offs are phenomenal scenes. There's death and destruction in The Rock, sure, yet it's just fun. So, yesh, cut Agent Goodspeed some slack as he battles the guy threatening to launch deadly gas while mourning his men (and "his wife") in this 744th episode. Well, Actually: Mason uses SF Information to find his daughter...he doesn't just magically remember a phone number he never had. Also, the funny line about bailing on lemons is in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, not I Love You, Man. Also also, it DOES seem like Tony Todd's character knocks over a rock on purpose to start a massacre in the shower scene...and also at least SOME of Hummel's marines are killed when that "all enemies…foreign, sir, and domestic" melee is over. These are the most feared words for any budding relationship. I Love You. Everyone's advice is always “just say it when you genuinely feel it!” which is great in theory, but hard in practice for so many reasons. In this episode we chat about the ILY timeframe, why you may or may not say it and how it should be said. DM us your thoughts, questions, topics, or to just vent at @triplejthehookup on IG or email us: thehookup@abc.net.auThe Hook Up is an ABC podcast, produced by triple j. It is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to elders past and present. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the land where we live, work, and learn.
It's a raw dog episode, which means no safety rails and barely a plan. The boys get into Sunday Scaries, couples going to bed together, Kevin surviving on I-4 micro naps, Jason accidentally walking into a Charlotte club in sandals for chicken wings, and a neighborhood pool party that somehow ends with cops, swim tests, and a water cannon. The 2000s comedy bracket rolls on with I Love You, Man, Tropic Thunder, Step Brothers, and Without a Paddle, while the crew debates fake Tom Cruise hands, hot sake, Billabong shirts, music taste, Pride Month landmines, and Kevin finishing the Infinity Saga with his girls.
"It ain't easy having pals." We watched Young Guns (1988) with our good friend Millie De Chirico from the podcast "Dear Movies, I Love You", and we can give you six reasons why the West was so wild in the 1980s: it's our boys Emilio, Kiefer, Lou, Dermot, Casey, and Charlie. In a time where Western movies were in a dry patch, these young men helped breathe life into a dying genre. Photographed like a hair band music video, we're thankful there were power outlets in the Old West to plug in the hairdryers needed to blow out and feather these manes of 80s hair. We discuss our relationships with the six Brat Pack (and Brat Pack adjacent) cast; if any of us have actually seen the original "Young Guns" or just confuse it with "Young Guns 2"; and speculate what new young cast could possibly work in a Young Guns 3. Outlouders, today for a Sunday Special we're dropping an episode of our sister podcast Unleashed into your feed... It's a little bit rogue, just like us and we think you're going to love it. You're welcome. Grace heard someone breaking into her apartment, grabbed a tennis racket, lowered her voice and screamed through the door in her mouth guard. It was not, in fact, a burglar. Mary has had it with people saying 'I Love You'. We disagree (and we love Mary, very much). Cath confesses that she dreads holidays since her divorce. Bruna lives with lupus and wakes up in pain every single day, and almost no one knows. And Grace had nits for four days and genuinely thought it was perimenopause. And the songs that changed us. Whether sitting on a school bus, lying in a delivery room, or chasing David Bowie down a street in New York, it's a lot. It's everything. Send us Fan MailThis week, we talk about the true story of Tony & Frances Toto, whose story hit the big screen in 1990 after Frances tried to murder Tony 5 times with the help of a few hitmen, all of whom were very bad at murder. In this episode of the North Raleigh UMC Behind the Scenes Podcast, Pastor Laura Johnson joins Kevin Van Hall to unpack one of Jesus' most recognizable parables: the Good Samaritan. As the church concludes the sermon series I Love You, But… with the message No Ifs, Ands, or Buts, the conversation explores what it truly means to love without conditions or boundaries.Laura and Kevin dive into the deep historical tension between Jews and Samaritans, helping listeners understand why Jesus' choice to make the Samaritan the hero of the story was so shocking. Together they discuss the priest, the Levite, and the wounded man on the road to Jericho, examining how fear, excuses, and self-preservation can keep people from showing compassion. The episode highlights Jesus' challenge to redefine “neighbor” not as a category of people we choose to love, but as a way we live toward others. Laura reflects on how the Samaritan mirrors the compassion of Christ Himself — offering mercy, healing, generosity, and care with no strings attached. The conversation also connects the parable to Ascension Sunday and the church's call to continue Christ's work in the world until He comes again. Listeners are invited to consider how faith becomes real through action, mercy, and love that moves beyond words.Plus, hear details about upcoming Pentecost celebrations, wearing red for worship, possible birthday cake for the church, and the children's musical Storms coming this Sunday evening.I Love You, But...No Ifs Ands Or ButsWhen Jesus was pressed to define who is and isn't worthy of being loved like a neighbor, he was clear in his response: the love of God that shines through us is to be unlimited in its reach. We are to love our neighbors, no ifs, ands, or buts. Join us this Sunday as we revisit the story of the Good Samaritan and consider Christ's call to expand our understanding of "neighbor" to include all.

Mike Diamond met Dr. Shauna Shapiro the way most people did — through her TED Talk. He had just survived a near-fatal episode in 2017 (burst appendix, septic shock, ulcerative colitis, doctors recommending colon removal). He sent the talk to everyone he knew. Years later, when his co-host Dave Mills booked her on their show, Mike opens this episode by telling her: "You don't understand the impact this person had on my life."Dr. Shapiro is a clinical psychologist, the author of the bestselling Good Morning, I Love You (and the companion Good Morning, I Love You Journal), and one of the most-cited researchers on mindfulness and self-compassion in the world. The episode is her full origin story — and a master class in how the brain actually changes. She traces her arc: a teenage volleyball captain with a Duke University scholarship, an orthopedic crisis where her spine threatened to puncture her lungs, six months in a hospital bed, and the book her father gave her almost by accident — Jon Kabat-Zinn's Wherever You Go, There You Are. The first paragraph reframed her future: "Whatever's happened to you, it's already happened. The only question that matters is now what?" That question put her on a plane to Thailand and Nepal three years later, into the monasteries, and eventually into the PhD program where she's now spent more than 25 years studying the field. The conversation goes deep on the gap between what most wellness culture claims about positive thinking versus what neuroscience actually shows. Affirmations in a beta brainwave state don't reach the subconscious. Forced positivity doesn't work because "your brain and nervous system are not stupid." But authentic kindness — even when you don't feel it — bathes the system in dopamine and oxytocin, turns on the learning centers, and creates the conditions for actual healing. She walks Mike through her own three-step practice for handling the inner critic: name the emotion (UCLA research shows naming brings the prefrontal cortex back online), place a hand on the heart with kindness (oxytocin floods the system), and send strength out to others struggling with the same thing (common humanity defeats isolation). The episode closes on her two foundational daily practices: "Good Morning, I Love You" in the morning (when the brain is in a theta state and most trainable), and a one-minute gratitude journal entry at night (your evening mood predicts telomere length, mitochondrial health, and sleep quality, per the research). And if you're ready to commit to more: seven minutes of meditation, five days a week is the empirically-validated sweet spot. What we coverThe TED Talk that changed Mike's life — and how she ended up on his podcast years laterVolleyball captain → Duke scholarship → spinal surgery → six months in a hospital bedHer father, Jon Kabat-Zinn's Wherever You Go, There You Are, and the first paragraph that reframed her futureThree years later: Thailand, Nepal, the monasteriesWhy she didn't believe in "magic" — and pursued a PhD to understand what had happened25+ years of research at the intersection of mindfulness, neuroplasticity, and traumaWorking with breast-cancer patients and military veteransPost-traumatic growth (Marty Seligman) — and why she's hesitant to call suffering "a gift"The neuroscience of why forced positivity doesn't workWhy kindness produces dopamine + oxytocin (the actual chemistry of healing)Her three-step inner-critic practice: name → kindness → common humanityGood Morning, I Love You — the theta-state morning practiceWhy your evening mood predicts your telomeresThe empirical sweet spot: 7 minutes of meditation, 5 days a weekMike pitches her on Project One-Eighty — his documentary concept

Amidst a long catalog of previous BFTA stories featuring complex or developmental PTSD, today's story is one of classic DSM-style PTSD, it's a story of both medical and parenting trauma, of facing the fear of annihilation and death. In this three part story, first we hear Tracy tell of the increasingly severe medical challenges of her children, then Tracy flashes back to describe her own terrifying emergency hospitalization as a 5 year old, then finally we trace Tracy's treatment journey through traditional psychotherapy and eventual MDMA-assisted therapy as she tries to find a way to calm her nervous system and find peace.Support the show! https://www.buzzsprout.com/396871/supportBringing Therapy into Med Management-- An intensive workshop for psych NPs and PAs, June 3-6 2026 in Ft Collinshttps://www.craigheacockmd.com/bringing-therapy-into-med-management/"I Love You, I Hate You, Are You My Mom?" In this episode, Dennis is joined via Zoom by singer-songwriter and author Mike Maimone to talk about his new memoir--as well as its companion album--both called Guess What? I Love You, which documents the most extraordinary year of his life. A few years back, Mike met the well-known Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman on Scruff and within a few messages, they both knew it was something real. A whirlwind long-distance romance ensued and soon they were getting a place together in Nashville, where Mike then lived, and talking about their dream wedding. But within a year of that first Scruff message, Howard was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia and passed away soon after. It's quite a journey and Mike writes about all of it in the book. In the interview, Mike talks about the process of writing the book, the times when he feels Howard is still with him and the lessons he feels he was meant to take from the whole whirlwind experience. Other topics include: when he first fell in love with music, the two books Howard gave him early in their courtship (The Ethical Slut and The Rational Guide to Living), Howard's settling a beef with Paula Abdul before he passed, what the cake pops on the book cover mean and why he doesn't love singing "Sweet Caroline" during wedding gigs. https://www.mikemaimone.com/
Cybersecurity debates tend to center on tools, frameworks, and threats. But Rob Knoblauch has built a 25-year career in global security leadership by focusing on the soft skills that determine whether a CISO survives, thrives, or burns out. In this episode of The New CISO, Rob joins Steve Moore to trace the through-line from running a multi-node BBS as a kid to serving as Deputy CISO of one of the world's largest banks — and the career lessons he's carried through every chapter.Rob's path wasn't engineered. It began with a VIC-20, a love of video games, and a side passion for DJing that eventually clinched his first big bank interview. Running a BBS taught him identity management, patching, and infrastructure long before those were industry terms, and responding to the Melissa and “I Love You” outbreaks as a twenty-something Toronto Stock Exchange analyst launched his pivot into information security. The conversation turns to leading at scale. Rob walks through the three mentors who shaped him — “the teacher” who grounded him in fundamentals at Bank of Montreal, “the coach” who taught him the collaborative nature of global operations at Scotiabank, and “the general” who sharpened his leadership edge. He frames these not as phases but as lenses he still applies situationally today.Rob and Steve dig into incident response — from taking down Canada's first phishing site with no playbook to running tabletop exercises at the board, C-suite, and technical levels. Rob argues every organization needs a breach coach and that communications is the biggest make-or-break factor in a breach. He also offers a candid take on CISO politics — short tenures, CIO friction, and why trust with your boss matters more than being right. The episode closes with Rob's take on why this may be the best time in history to be a new CISO. AI is stripping away the commodity work that defined earlier generations of the role, leaving more room for strategy, leadership, and real influence. For anyone stepping into the seat, Rob's message is simple: the most valuable skills aren't technical at all.Key Topics• Rob's path from a VIC-20 and a grade-school BBS to the CISO seat• How DJing as “Robbie Knobs” clinched his first big bank interview — and why “notables” matter on a resume• Taking down the first phishing website in Canada with no playbook and a lot of cold calls• The three mentors who shaped his leadership: the teacher, the coach, and the general• Why tabletop exercises at the board, C-suite, and technical levels each matter — and how they differ• The case for engaging a breach coach before a breach happens, not during one• Why communications is the single biggest make-or-break factor in incident response• How AI is reshaping the CISO role by stripping away commodity workGuestRob Knoblauch — Chief Information Security OfficerRob Knoblauch is a seasoned CISO with 25+ years of global information security leadership. Hawaiian Concert Guide Podcast Show 702 - Royal Flush Welcome to another inspiring edition of the Hawaiian Concert Guide. Episode 702, titled Royal Flush, is a heartfelt musical journey through aloha for family, love of place, worship, memory, and the unmistakable beauty of Hawaiian harmony. This episode moves gracefully from contemporary Hawaiian recordings into faith-filled expressions, pauses for a fun and nostalgic exotica interlude, and then returns home with classic Hawaiian vocal richness. At the top of the show, we feature a special live interview with Nick and Sam, who are visiting Hilo, Hawaiʻi for the world-renowned Merrie Monarch Festival, the premier celebration of hula and Hawaiian cultural arts. From the vibrant energy of Hilo during festival week to the deep traditions of hula, chant, and storytelling, Nick and Sam share their firsthand experiences attending one of the most significant cultural events in Hawaiʻi. Their perspective offers listeners a glimpse into the atmosphere, excitement, and reverence that define Merrie Monarch. The selections in this episode reflect some of the deepest values found in Hawaiian music: reverence for loved ones, profound attachment to the land, gratitude to God, and the enduring power of mele to preserve both emotion and identity. The result is an episode that feels warm, reflective, and deeply rooted. Featured Tracks 1. E Māma - Kaleo Phillips Album: E Mama Duration: 4:01 Opening the episode is E Māma, a song that immediately establishes an intimate and reverent emotional tone. The title suggests a tribute to mother, and in Hawaiian musical tradition, songs honoring mothers often carry meanings that go beyond a single individual. They can also reflect family lineage, sacrifice, tenderness, and the continuity of aloha across generations. Kaleo Phillips delivers the mele with restraint and sincerity, allowing the song's emotional core to remain front and center. Rather than overwhelming the listener with a dense arrangement, the song appears to rely on warmth, vocal phrasing, and a steady melodic line. That simplicity is part of its strength. Hawaiian music often does its best work when it trusts the story. As an opening track, this selection acts as a gateway into the entire episode. It introduces a theme that echoes through several of the songs that follow: love expressed not through spectacle, but through remembrance, gentleness, and deep personal connection. Theme: Family love, reverence, remembrance Musical character: Gentle, reflective, intimate Why it matters: Sets the emotional and spiritual tone for the full episode 2. Puna Kuʻu Aloha - Christy Leinaʻala Lassiter Album: Ho'i Ke Aloha - EP Duration: 3:57 Puna Kuʻu Aloha is a beautiful example of Hawaiian songwriting rooted in place. In Hawaiian mele, land is never just scenery. It is memory, identity, relationship, and presence. To sing of Puna is to sing of a living place with emotional and cultural meaning. Christy Leinaʻala Lassiter brings grace and emotional clarity to this performance. The phrase kuʻu aloha conveys a deeply personal affection, making the title feel like a love letter to Puna itself. This is one of the distinctive strengths of Hawaiian music: the ability to treat land as beloved, not merely observed. Puna, on Hawaiʻi Island, carries layers of meaning through its lush beauty, dynamic volcanic history, and deep cultural associations. Songs about Puna often hold a sense of longing, beauty, and transformation. This recording fits naturally within that lineage, inviting the listener to hear place as something cherished and alive. Theme: Love of place, emotional geography, identity Musical character: Flowing, melodic, affectionate Why it matters: Reinforces the Hawaiian tradition of connecting aloha with the land 3. Haleakalā - Christy Leinaʻala Lassiter Album: Ho'i Ke Aloha - EP Duration: 3:37 Staying with Christy Leinaʻala Lassiter, Haleakalā shifts the focus from one beloved region to one of Hawaiʻi's most revered natural and spiritual landmarks. Haleakalā is not only a mountain; it is a place layered with story, reverence, and mythic resonance. In Hawaiian tradition, places are often inseparable from the narratives attached to them. Haleakalā is famously associated with Māui, who was said to have lassoed the sun there. Because of that, references to Haleakalā can carry themes of time, light, wonder, and power. A song named for it naturally invites awe. Musically, this piece feels expansive, fitting the majesty of the subject. It broadens the emotional landscape of the episode and deepens the sense that Hawaiian music can hold both personal tenderness and geographic grandeur in the same artistic frame. Theme: Sacred place, wonder, mythic landscape Musical character: Spacious, reverent, elevated Why it matters: Expands the episode from intimate affection into spiritual geography 4. Goodness of God - Gregory Juan Album: Kauluwehi Duration: 3:41 With Goodness of God, the episode moves more directly into the language of testimony and praise. Though widely known in contemporary Christian music, a Hawaiian-oriented rendition invites the listener to hear the song through a different cultural lens. In this context, gratitude becomes more than a lyric theme; it connects naturally with the Hawaiian value of mahalo. Gregory Juan's performance likely resonates because of that fusion. Contemporary worship songs can sometimes feel structurally familiar, but when interpreted with island phrasing, local vocal sensibility, and an ear for relational warmth, they can take on a more grounded and communal feeling. This track serves as an important bridge in the episode. The earlier songs honor people and places. Here, the orientation shifts upward in gratitude toward God. That movement from family and land into faith gives the episode a natural spiritual progression. Theme: Gratitude, testimony, faith Musical character: Worshipful, warm, heartfelt Why it matters: Bridges Hawaiian sensibility with contemporary Christian expression 5. Hawaiʻi Aloha - Kamalei Kawaʻa Album: Mānaiakalani Duration: 4:56 Few songs carry the emotional and cultural significance of Hawaiʻi Aloha. This is one of the most beloved anthems in Hawaiian music, often sung at the close of gatherings as a gesture of unity, affection, and enduring connection to the islands and their people. Kamalei Kawaʻa's inclusion of this song is powerful within the context of Episode 702. After moving through songs of personal love, cherished places, and gratitude to God, this anthem broadens the circle to embrace the whole of Hawaiʻi. It becomes communal rather than only personal. The strength of this song lies not only in melody but in function. It has become a song that people live with, sing together, and use to mark belonging. That sense of shared identity is one of the central treasures of Hawaiian music. Theme: Unity, homeland, shared aloha Musical character: Anthemic, communal, dignified Why it matters: One of the emotional anchors of the entire episode 6. Hoʻomana Ia Iesu (feat. Ka ʻOhana Kawaʻa) - Kamalei Kawaʻa Album: Mānaiakalani Duration: 4:04 Hoʻomana Ia Iesu brings the episode to an explicitly devotional place. The title itself centers worship of Jesus, and the featured participation of Ka ʻOhana Kawaʻa adds a family and community dimension that is especially meaningful in Hawaiian music. Hawaiian Christian music has long occupied an important place in the islands' musical life. What makes songs like this especially compelling is the way they join worship with family, language, and local style. Faith is not presented as abstract doctrine, but as something lived together and sung together. The communal nature of the performance likely enhances its emotional impact. Family voices singing in harmony naturally reinforce the message. In a broader sense, this track reflects one of the recurring motifs of the episode: love becomes fullest when shared. Theme: Worship, family faith, shared devotion Musical character: Reverent, communal, spiritually centered Why it matters: Deepens the episode's faith dimension while preserving a strong Hawaiian identity Exotica Segment 7. Exotica Segment Intro - pik00 Duration: 4:10 This segment intro marks a stylistic transition in the episode. Up to this point, the program has focused on music deeply rooted in Hawaiian identity, language, faith, and place. The Exotica segment steps sideways into a related but distinctly different musical world: one shaped by fantasy, lounge aesthetics, and mid-century tropical imagination. That contrast is part of what makes the segment valuable. It offers not only variety, but also perspective. It reminds listeners that “island music” has often been interpreted and reimagined far beyond Hawaiʻi itself. 8. On the Beach at Waikīkī (mix final) - Les Waikikings Album: Hapa haole with a twist Duration: 2:17 On the Beach at Waikīkī leans into the playful charm of tropical nostalgia. The title alone evokes postcard Hawaiʻi: surf, sand, leisure, and romance. In exotica and hapa-haole-adjacent material, the islands often become a stage for fantasy rather than an expression of local lived culture. That does not make the piece without merit. On the contrary, tracks like this can be delightful, catchy, and historically revealing. They show how Hawaiʻi was imagined internationally and how tropical motifs were translated into entertainment music for broad audiences. Within this episode, the song acts as a light palate cleanser. It introduces a wink of vintage fun before the program returns to more deeply rooted Hawaiian harmony. Theme: Tropical nostalgia, leisure, fantasy Musical character: Breezy, lounge-like, playful Why it matters: Adds historical contrast and tonal variety 9. How dya do - Les Waikikings Album: Hapa haole with a twist Duration: 3:03 How dya do continues the exotica mood with a likely emphasis on upbeat rhythm, polished arrangement, and the stylized “tropical” sound associated with mid-century popular music. These sorts of recordings often present a cheerful, cinematic island atmosphere rather than a culturally grounded one. For listeners of the Hawaiian Concert Guide, that difference is worth noticing. Authentic Hawaiian music often carries place, genealogy, language, and community. Exotica tends to carry mood, escapism, and fantasy. Hearing both in one episode can be educational as well as entertaining. In programming terms, this track keeps the episode lively and prevents the emotional arc from becoming too uniform. It is a well-timed detour before the music returns to classic Hawaiian vocal artistry. Theme: Escapism, retro charm, tropical stylization Musical character: Light, rhythmic, lounge-oriented Why it matters: Helps frame the distinction between Hawaiian music and music inspired by Hawaiʻi Closing Selections: Return to Hawaiian Vocal Depth 10. Ka Loke - Ho'okena Album: Ho'okena 5 Duration: 4:16 The return from exotica to Ho'okena is a return to center. Ka Loke carries the unmistakable richness of Hawaiian group harmony and poetic sensibility. Ho'okena is known for vocal blend, emotional precision, and the ability to let the song breathe. The title, meaning “the rose,” suggests metaphor, beauty, and affection. Hawaiian songwriting frequently uses natural imagery not simply as decoration, but as a means of expressing human feeling. Flowers, winds, rains, mountains, and seas all become emotional language. This track is especially effective late in the episode because it restores a sense of depth and rootedness after the lighter detour of the exotica set. The listener is brought back into the fuller emotional and cultural world of Hawaiian mele. Theme: Beauty, poetic love, emotional symbolism Musical character: Harmonically rich, graceful, classic Why it matters: Re-centers the episode in traditional Hawaiian vocal beauty 11. I Love You - Ho'okena Album: Ho'okena 5 Duration: 4:11 I Love You closes the episode with warmth and universality. While the title is in English, the emotional spirit aligns perfectly with the rest of the program. The entire episode has, in one form or another, been about love: love for mother, love for place, love for God, love expressed in community, and love carried in harmony. Ho'okena's treatment of a song like this likely gives it both accessibility and depth. Their vocal approach can make even a simple phrase feel timeless. That is one of the gifts of strong Hawaiian harmony: it elevates feeling without forcing it. As a final track, this song functions almost like a benediction. It leaves the listener with a sense of peace and completion, gathering together the many emotional strands of the episode into one simple message. Theme: Love, closure, emotional unity Musical character: Gentle, harmonious, reassuring Why it matters: A fitting final statement for an episode built around aloha in many forms Episode Reflection Episode 702, E Māma, is structured with unusual emotional coherence. Even though the tracks come from different artists and include a temporary move into exotica, the overall episode still feels unified. That unity comes from its central themes: affection, reverence, gratitude, and connection. The first portion of the program focuses on intimacy and place. E Māma, Puna Kuʻu Aloha, and Haleakalā all carry a sense of deep regard, whether for family or landscape. From there, the episode opens into spiritual testimony with Goodness of God, then broadens into collective and devotional identity through Hawaiʻi Aloha and Hoʻomana Ia Iesu. The exotica segment introduces contrast and historical perspective, reminding listeners that Hawaiʻi has often been interpreted from afar in ways that are entertaining but not always rooted. That makes the return to Ho'okena especially satisfying. Their closing selections restore the sound of home, depth, and harmony. If there is a single word that best describes this episode, it is aloha. Not merely as a greeting, but as a way of relating: to mother, to beloved places, to God, to family, and to one another. Track List E Māma - Kaleo Phillips - 4:01 Puna Kuʻu Aloha - Christy Leinaʻala Lassiter - 3:57 Haleakalā - Christy Leinaʻala Lassiter - 3:37 Goodness of God - Gregory Juan - 3:41 Hawaiʻi Aloha - Kamalei Kawaʻa - 4:56 Hoʻomana Ia Iesu (feat. Ka ʻOhana Kawaʻa) - Kamalei Kawaʻa - 4:04 Exotica Segment Intro - pik00 - 4:10 On the Beach at Waikīkī (mix final) - Les Waikikings - 2:17 How dya do - Les Waikikings - 3:03 Ka Loke - Ho'okena - 4:16 I Love You - Ho'okena - 4:11 Closing Mahalo for joining us for Hawaiian Concert Guide Podcast Show 702. May these songs encourage you to remember those you love, appreciate the beauty of Hawaiʻi, and carry aloha into the week ahead. A hui hou and malama pono.

Encounters Part 4 | Friday, April 3, 2026 | Good Friday Pastor Bria BradshawOne encounter with Jesus can change the direction of your entire life.Face to Face With LoveIs 53:4-6 (ESV) Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.Is 53:10a (ESV) Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief, when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.Ask: Where are you saying “I Love You” to me right now?Ask: Where have I hindered your “I Love You” from being said to the people you've placed me with right now?Christ has no body but yours,No hands, no feet on earth but yours,Yours are the eyes with which he looksCompassion on this world,Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,Yours are the eyes, you are his body.Christ has no body now but yours,No hands, no feet on earth but yours,Yours are the eyes with which he lookscompassion on this world.Christ has no body now on earth but yours.-St. Teresa of Avila(Chad - These two below will be during Communion)The Bread - “I receive this bread as the gift of Christ's body, broken for me. As I receive, I am made whole, and I become part of His risen body, joined with His people. The Cup - “I receive this cup as the gift of Christ's blood, poured out for me. As I receive, I am forgiven, and I am sent to live His love, poured out for others.
Today's story is one of genetic predisposition, environmental triggers, and finally a psychiatric flame thrower. Whitney's uncle had a particularly severe form of bipolar disorder and she too began to develop mood instability and depression as an adolescent. When we think of environmental triggers for mania, we tend to think of sleep deprivation, substances, and the postpartum period. And through her 20s and 30s, Whitney began to have more serious bouts of hypomania during times of sleep deprivation or in her postpartum periods. But it took an increasingly severe weed habit to bring her to the horrors of mania with psychosis. The US has a major suicide problem, around 50,000 people every year, and 60% of these suicides are gun suicides. The number one risk factor for completed suicide is not depression or anxiety or addiction….it's access to means, and it turns out that it's actually not that easy to impulsively kill yourself, unless you have ready access to a gun. We are finally starting to talk about ways to keep guns out of the hands of potentially suicidal people, and a concrete step in that direction is something called Donna's Law— a program where people can voluntarily be put on a no-sell list during times of psychological crisis or instability. Donna's Law is named after Donna Nathan, who impulsively bought a handgun in 2018 in New Orleans and shot herself during a period of psychiatric crisis. There were no barriers in place, no waiting period or no-sell list...Donna found easy access to means and paid the ultimate price. We first hear the voice of Katrina Brees, Donna's daughter. Katrina tells us more about who Donna was, how she lived and how she died. After we hear from Katrina, Dr. H leads a discussion with two prominent Colorado voices for both Donna's law in particular and suicide prevention in general— Dr. Dave Iverson is a Denver-based psychiatrist, a board member of Colorado Ceasefire, and lifelong advocate for society's most vulnerable folks, including those on the streets or in the justice system… also Ginny Mack joins the conversation, she is a Ft Collins-based psychiatric nurse practitioner, a Navy Veteran, and a longtime advocate for suicide prevention efforts on the state and local level. This week on Office Ladies 6.0 Jenna and Angela break down the seventh episode of The Paper, “I Love You.” When Marv is temporarily relocated to the newsroom, Ned spirals into full-on daddy-issues mode, culminating in a very public (and very cringe) admission to his boss. Meanwhile, Ken and Esmeralda hatch a chaotic plan to take Marv down, only to rope poor Nate the janitor into their scheme, leading to one of the ladies' favorite talking heads yet. Along the way, Jenna and Angela share behind-the-scenes tidbits from director Jen Celotta, discuss premature obituaries, legendary sewer clogs, and fierce toilet paper loyalty. So grab your favorite bath tissue brand, maybe don't tell your boss you love them… and enjoy!
