About my Guest Rob Wolf:Robert Wolf M.D., grew up as the only child of Ervin and Judit Wolf. Their stories of their escape from communist Hungary, and his father's tragic history of escaping the Nazis twice but having his own parents deported to Auschwitz, inspired Robert to document his parents' tales and share those stories with Jewish groups and others throughout the United States. In "Not a Real Enemy," Robert shares his family saga-and the forgotten history of the nearly half million Hungarian Jews who were deported and killed during the Holocaust-through an epic and inspiring tale of daring escapes, terrifying oppression, tragedy, and triumph. #holocaust #hangry #Auschwitz================All Episodes can be found at https://www.podpage.com/speaking-podcast/ All about Roy / Brain Gym & Virtual Assistants at https://roycoughlan.com/ ------------------ What we Discussed: 00:15 Who is Rob Wolf01:15 Does he Experience Censorship04:40 Polish got a Raw deal in WW207:15 Liberland09:35 Auschwitz in Poland12:50 October 7th In Israel14:30 The Olympics is where the Whole World becomes Unified15:35 Did Hitler go to Argentina?17:30 The Falkans & Antartica19:20 THe History of the Book25:45 Did they talk about the woar during his upbringing28:20 How does his family react to his book and mission30:40 His Dads Escape37:00 Hatred for the Germans was a Mistake38:30 His Book has achieved a lot of Awards39:55 Despite the Trauma they did not share stories with the ChildrenHow to Contact Rob Wolf: https://robertjwolfmd.com/https://www.facebook.com/notarealenemyhttps://x.com/RobertJWolfMDhttps://www.youtube.com/robertjwolfmdhttps://www.instagram.com/RobertJWolfMDhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-j-wolf-md/------------------All about Roy / Brain Gym & Virtual Assistants at https://roycoughlan.com/ ___________________
Guest: Ron Koenigsberg Guest Bio: Ron Koenigsberg is an award-winning commercial real estate broker with over three decades of experience and the founder of American Investment Properties, Inc. Recognized as a top-performing broker nationwide, Ron has successfully navigated countless transactions, establishing himself as an industry leader and trusted advisor. As the author of "Power Broker: How to Succeed in Life and Business", Ron shares his proven insights into sales excellence, relationship-building, and personal growth. Known for his engaging style and practical advice, Ron leverages humor, warmth, and real-world experience to empower others to achieve greater professional success and personal fulfillment. Key Points: Dyslexia and Overcoming Challenges: Ron shares his experience of being born with dyslexia, a condition that went undiagnosed during his childhood. Despite struggling with reading and comprehension, he found his strength in "human engineering," which led him to sales. His father's influence, especially through Dale Carnegie's book How to Win Friends and Influence People, helped him realize that 85% of success is due to people skills, not technical knowledge. Sales and Human Connection: Ron emphasizes that sales success relies on building relationships, not just knowledge. He shares that the key to success is understanding people and communication, which is more important than expertise in a specific field. He mentions that 85% of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders start their careers in sales because it builds essential people skills. Teaching Sales to His Team: Ron adopts a "watch, do, teach" approach with his sales team. He emphasizes leading by example and actively teaching his team, building their skills through practical experience. He fosters a supportive environment, always looking to guide and encourage his salespeople, focusing on making them better rather than criticizing them. Streamlining the Prospecting Process: Originally, Ron tried to contact a large number of property owners (around 10,000), but eventually realized that focusing on a smaller group of 800 key individuals worked better. This "narrowing down" approach allowed for deeper, more meaningful connections, and ultimately led to more successful relationships. Persistence in Sales: Ron emphasizes the importance of persistence in sales. He shares that 80% of sales happen after the fourth ask and encourages his team to keep pushing and not be discouraged by rejection. He uses a CRM to manage and track relationships, remembering personal details about prospects, as he believes in the power of personalization. Building Resilience: Ron believes resilience is crucial for sales success and business leadership. Despite setbacks and rejections, resilience helps maintain motivation and drive. He practices what he preaches by remaining calm in tough situations and sharing his own experiences with his team to help them develop emotional resilience. Hiring Challenges and Social Media: Ron admits that recruiting talent has been his biggest challenge in growing his business. He has recently focused more on social media, growing his LinkedIn following from 1,000 to 14,000 in a year, using it to attract talent and build his brand. His Book, Power Broker: Ron wrote a book titled Power Broker, focusing on success in sales and business. It's particularly aimed at aspiring commercial real estate brokers. The book was written with his sons in mind, sharing his knowledge and lessons for them to use in their lives. The book has resonated with a wider audience and is available in various formats, including Audible and Amazon. Family and Legacy: He shares his desire for his children to be involved in his business, though they are still young. He wants to build a successful company that attracts his sons to work with him in the future. Overcoming Dyslexia: Ron reflects on the impact of dyslexia on his life, acknowledging that it has shaped his resilience and approach to challenges. He stresses that dyslexia taught him how to overcome obstacles and build resilience, which is key to thriving in sales and business. The interview highlights the power of resilience, human connection in sales, persistence, and the importance of teaching others as a key to leadership and success. Are you focused or merely busy? Jones Loflin sits down with Kevin to reveal the secret of focus, inspired by honeybees. Jones introduces six essential "permissions" that individuals must grant themselves and emphasizes their particular importance for leaders, who not only need to practice these permissions personally but also guide their team members to recognize and adopt them. These permissions include: The Permission to Prioritize – Bees prioritize maintaining the hive before making honey. How can we identify our most critical goals? The Permission to Plan – Similar to how bees prepare for changing conditions, how can we proactively set ourselves up for success? The Permission to Be Unavailable – Constant accessibility can hinder productivity. How can leaders create an environment conducive to deep work? The Permission to Recharge – Bees rest more than they work. What lessons can we draw from this behavior? The Permission to Change – Often, we stick to habits that are no longer beneficial. How can we embrace necessary changes? The Permission to Be Consistent – Although change is crucial, success frequently arises from disciplined, repeated actions. Chicago Tribune, Slate, NY TimesOn "Bloody Sunday," March 7, 1965, C.T. Vivian, a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement, was violently attacked by Sheriff Jim Clark while attempting to escort a group of African Americans to register to vote in Selma, Alabama. Steve Fiffer is a New York Times Bestselling Author. His Book is "It's in The Action": Memories of a Nonviolent Warrior, Rev C.T. Vivian's Memoir.Reverend Vivian was a Major Force in the Fight for Civil Rights & Voters Rights in the Twentieth Century till he Passed July 17th, 2020.Regardless of Social Status, Party Affiliation or Belief, Race: Libertarian, Democrat, Progressive or Republican or Other, All Americans Should Have the Right to Vote!Senator Barack Obama, speaking at Selma's Brown Chapel on the March 2007, anniversary of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches, recognized Vivian in his opening remarks in the words of Martin L. King Jr. as "the greatest preacher to ever live."Studying for the ministry at American Baptist Theological Seminary (now called American Baptist College) in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1959, Vivian met James Lawson, who was teaching Mohandas Gandhi's nonviolent direct action strategy to the Nashville Student Movement. Soon Lawson's students, including Diane Nash, Bernard Lafayette, James Bevel, John Lewis and others from American Baptist, Fisk University and Tennessee State University, organized a systematic nonviolent sit-in campaign at local lunch counters.Vivian helped found the Nashville Christian Leadership Conference, and helped organize the first sit-ins in Nashville in 1960 and the first civil rights march in 1961. In 1961, Vivian participated in Freedom Rides. He worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. as the national director of affiliates for the SCLC. During the summer following the Selma Voting Rights Movement, Vivian is perhaps best known for, Vivian challenged Sheriff Jim Clark on the steps of the courthouse in Selma, Alabama, in 1965 during a drive to promote Black people to register to vote."You can turn your back on me, but you cannot turn your back upon the idea of justice," Vivian said to Clark as reporters recorded the interaction. "You can turn your back now and you can keep the club in your hand, but you cannot beat down justice. And we will register to vote, because as citizens of these United States we have the right to do it."Vivian conceived and directed an educational program, Vision, and put 702 Alabama students in college with scholarships (this program later became Upward Bound). Ramadan Reminder Episode 3
Allah Won't Burden You Beyond Your Capacity| Ramadan Reminder Episode 2
Stranded on the highest mountain on earth. Or buried beneath the rubble of a shattered hotel. After the earthquake that rocked that mountain kingdom of Nepal, thousands of people lost their lives. Many more found their world, their homes, actually their lives wiped away. There were some who survived the quake, but they faced the prospect of dying in the aftermath. Like those climbers on Mt. Everest, trapped on the mountain by massive avalanches. Or that 27-year-old man, lying amidst the stench of dead bodies, trapped for 82 hours under mountains of concrete. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Earthquake Hope." One six-letter word. That was the difference between life and death for the men on the mountain and the man in the rubble. Rescue. That's the "hope" word that we keep hearing in the heartbreaking news from great disasters all over the world. In this one, 18 climbers died when part of Everest collapsed on their base camp. There were 140 surviving climbers, but when they tried to go down through the escape route, it was impossibly blocked by fallen rocks. And as time passed, their food was running out; their water was running out. And then the choppers came. One after another they landed somehow on that mountain, saved those climbers, taking out two at a time. Then there was young Rishi. He was running out of hope, he was running out of life. Beneath that collapsed hotel. Then, after ten hours of digging through concrete, the rescuers broke through. Rishi is alive...the climbers were alive...because the rescuers came. Hope in Nepal depended on - as it is in so many disasters - a rescuer from above. And that's where the news intersects my life and yours. Because hope for me depended on a rescuer from above. At the spiritual crossroads of my life. I was trapped in a place where I would have died. Except my Rescuer came. His name is Jesus. The One called "Savior" by millions of people around the world. That's Savior as in Rescuer. In fact, the Bible says in our word for today from the Word of God in Galatians 1:3, "Jesus gave His life for our sins...in order to rescue us." Not to start a religion. Not to be an example or a teacher. But to rescue us. So, it isn't about a religion, called Christianity, it's about a rescuer named Jesus. He came to rescue us at the cost of His life. Because I - and a world of folks like me - was facing spiritual death for dethroning God in my life. Letting Him run the universe while I ran me. His Book makes the outcome of those sinful choices, unmistakable. It says, "The soul that sins shall die" (Ezekiel 18:3). Here, a life without meaning. Hereafter, an eternity without hope. But, thank God, the Rescuer came! From above. To a cross. To die for my sin and yours so we don't have to. Amazingly, in the words of Galatians 2:20 in the Bible, "He loved me and gave Himself for me." First person singular. The death of Christ on the cross for my sins. Then He blasted out of His grave three days later. To reach into my rubble. To reach into your rubble. To save us from certain spiritual death. If you're ready to make The Rescuer your personal Rescuer from your sin, if you want to begin this life-saving, eternity-changing relationship with Jesus, I invite you to tell Him right now, "Jesus, I'm yours." And go to our website where you can get this confirmed and be sure you belong to Him. That website is ANewStory.com. There was a day that Jesus reached for me. This may be the day He is reaching for you. Would you grab His nail-scarred hand, my friend? You will be safe. Forever.
Ramadan Reminder Episode 1
When I was in junior high school, we usually bought one copy of the local newspaper every day. Until the day I won the County Spelling Bee! Yeah, I can do autographs later. I'm sure you're very impressed. Well, that day my parents bought about 20 copies of the local newspaper. What was the difference? Well, my name was in it this time! I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Love With Your Name On It." Actually, that wasn't unusual for my family to do, buying all those newspapers. I mean, we're all like that. When our name is in something we're suddenly a whole lot more interested. It's that way with what might be the most important statement in all the Bible. Certainly one of the most quoted. Maybe you've seen the fans at NFL games with their banners or their signs in the end zone. It says John 3:16, or maybe back when Tim Tebow played with the black under his eyes at a football game. Well, it could be the most important statement in the Bible. Here's what it says, "For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." Those words are probably the most dramatic answer in the world to any questions about how God feels about us. "God loves the world so much that He gave." He proved it. He acted on it. His one and only Son; the most valuable gift He could give. Why? So we who deserved to die can live forever instead. You say, "What do you mean deserved to die?" Well, the Bible says, for example, in Romans 6:23, "The wages of sin is death." That's what we'd be paid for running our own lives. That's what we deserve; the wages of running our own life. We've all built this wall between us and our Creator by taking our life into our own hands; hijacking our life. It's called sin. Have you ever wondered why there's never been enough love? It's because of the sin wall. You can't get to the One who's got the love you were made for. There never seems to be a reason to live. Why? Because the One who knows why you're here is on the other side of the wall. If we die with that wall there, that wall is there forever. That's hell - eternal death - conscious separation and loneliness, away from a holy God forever and still enduring the pain because there are none of the sedatives we had on earth. But God, the very One we have wronged, acted to get our death penalty paid for with the life of His own Son. Now, let's put your name in John 3:16. When I leave a blank, would you put your name there? "God loved ____ so much that He gave His one and only Son, that if ____ would believe in Him, then ____ will never die but will have eternal life." See, it says in order to make what He died for yours, you have to believe in Him. That's not just agreeing with your mind. That's grabbing Jesus like a drowning person would grab a lifeguard. It's total trust. The gift of God's Son was all for you, but like any gift, you have to reach out and take it for it to be yours. Have you ever done that? This could be that day. Something dramatic happens when you walk up to the cross of Jesus and say these two words, "For me. This is for me isn't it, Jesus. Some of those sins you died for are my sins." God's waiting right now to erase everything you've ever done from His book; to add your name to His Book of Life; the one He will check when your heart finally stops and you stand before Him. But it all begins when you put your name in what Jesus did on the cross for you, and you make the Savior your Savior. If you've never done that, and you sense that knocking on the door of your heart, that's Jesus. I hope you'll go to our website. There you'll find the way to make sure you belong to Jesus Christ before this day ends. Tell Him right now, "I'm Yours, Jesus." The website is ANewStory.com. When your name is in something, it's totally different. Today may be your day to realize that what Jesus did is not just generic, not just for the world. It was for you!

Are you subsidizing your business success at the cost of your own well-being? Andy Brown defines this as emotional overdraft and just like a financial overdraft, these behaviors might work in the short term but become unsustainable and costly over time. Andy explains to Kevin that while this behavior is common, it can lead to stress, burnout, and reduced personal and professional effectiveness. Andy shares habitual behaviors, or "drivers," that contribute to emotional overdraft, such as urgency, overcommitment, and lack of trust. He also suggests that work-life balance is a helpful expression, he advocates for integrating work as part of life and recognizing seasons of focus and rest. Further, he provides some examples so we can mitigate emotional overdraft. With all that life throws at us, not to mention our own foibles and quirks, it's easy to end up with quite a distorted view of what God our Father means when He talks about His blessing in our lives. What Jesus means when He talks about giving us an abundant life. The Child in the Father's House We are chatting together this week on the programme about living out the abundant life that Jesus promised us, a life overflowing with His grace and mercy and love and peace and joy and blessing. By that we don't always mean abundant finances or complete safety. God has a tendency not to wrap us in cotton-wool but to be with us out there in the middle of life – in the good times and the bad – with His presence, which is what gives us that sense of overflow; that sense of abundance. It's funny how most of us, in our heart of hearts, desire a life that's, well, perfect, blessed in every way: every relationship perfect, finances perfect, home-life perfect, our own sense of self perfect … everything perfect. But life just isn't like that. In fact, as you and I think back on our lives thus far, chances are that there are very few times, if ever, where we could tick the box in every part of our lives as having been perfect. And yet somehow, we yearn secretly, even subconsciously, for this time in our lives when everything will be just perfect. And the mere fact that it isn't can be so disappointing to many. And yet, I come back to the fact that Jesus promised this abundant life, not wrapped away somewhere in cottonwool, but out there in this precarious, sometimes threatening place that we call ‘life'. This is in fact, what He said – beginning at John chapter 10, verse 1: Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So again Jesus said to them, “Look, truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. As we saw last week, the life of a shepherd and the lives of the sheep back there in the first century, were indeed, precarious. As the shepherd would take his flock out onto the rocky plateau of Israel, in search of pasture, there were many threats – thieves, wild animals – and it wasn't unusual for the shepherd to have to defend his sheep; sometimes with his own life. And interestingly, in that beautiful prayer that Jesus prayed just before He was crucified, He actually said this about you and me, to His Father: John chapter 17, beginning at verse 12: While I was with them, I protected them in your name that you have given me. I guarded them and not one of them was lost, except the one destined to be lost so that the scripture might be fulfilled. Verse 15: I am not asking you to take them out of this world but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. In other words: Dad, let's not take them out of all these situations and wrap them up in cotton-wool but rather, let's be with them and protect them from the evil one. Do you see how different God's perspective is? His promise is for an abundant life not a perfect one. And I have to tell you, as I have sat and thought about that a lot; it makes an enormous amount of sense. I'm a father; I have children – I love them very dearly. When they were young they lived with my wife Jacqui and me in our house, under our care and protection and with our provision. And that's right: that's why God gives us children, that's why He gives children parents. But there comes a time, in fact, it starts quite early, where as they grow up, we as good parents give them more and more responsibility for themselves, because one of the main parts of growing up is shifting the responsibility for their care from their parents to the children, as they become capable of accepting that responsibility. It's not always easy. It's one of the reasons that those teenage years can be so stressful because often teenagers – I know this was true of me – want to behave like children but still be treated like adults. In other words, they still want parents to do all the things that the parents ever did for them when they were little children, whilst at the same time, giving them all the freedoms that an adult has. Now there is tension, with a capital "T". They, in effect, want the best of both worlds – the perfect life. Sound familiar? And it's the same often, in our relationship with God. We want Him to fix everything; make everything perfect in our lives, whilst at the same time, we do things that don't honour Him that have consequences. And yet He is the perfect Father. Have a listen again to Romans chapter 8, beginning at verse 12: So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh — for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father”, it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ — if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. One of the most beautiful passages in the Bible, because it puts everything into perspective to me. Sometimes in the cut and thrust and the hurts of life, we lose our heavenly perspective; we lose sight of the fact that God is indeed our Father. In fact, Jesus called Him, “Abba”, which literally means, “Dad”. If we live our lives for Him; if we choose to be led by the Spirit of God, rather than by the desires of our own flesh, then we are indeed children of God and deep down, if we will let Him, the Spirit of God witnesses to us that we are His children – the children of the living God – and that means something. It means what Jesus prayed for you and me, back there in the Garden of Gethsemane. It means God's protection from the evil one rather than being wrapped in cotton-wool. I have to tell you, I for one would hate to be wrapped by God in cotton-wool, because I want to experience life and all that it's meant to be. That means sometimes we get hurt; that means sometimes it's hard; that means sometimes we are challenged. But, all along, God is our Father. Fathers know this – when our children are growing up, we don't stop being their fathers. We don't stop being there to help and advise when they need it. We don't stop caring and one day they will receive their inheritance from us. And it's the same with Dad, God! We are and always will be His children and His protection is always available to us. Can I tell you something? Somewhere in that knowledge, deep within, lies the source of abundance in my life – His abundance, not mine – His abundance in my life. He loves me, He wants me to know Him and to honour Him and to be all that He made me to be. To experience every day that He wrote down in His Book for me, before any of them ever existed. That's where the abundance begins – in our relationship with God; out there in the middle of life. See that story that Jesus told of the shepherd and his sheep: they were out there in this dangerous place, not wrapped away in cotton-wool, not sitting in a business class seat in a plane but out there in the cut and thrust of life. And it's out there that the knowledge of the faithfulness of my God, my Father gives me a sense of abundance that nothing else can give me. Above and Not Below We are looking today at the promise that Jesus made to give us an abundant life. Here it is in case you missed it earlier in the programme, John chapter 10, verse 10: The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that you may have life and have it abundantly. It's a beautiful promise and it's one that's always … it's always really touched my heart. It's a promise from Jesus that I take seriously. He came so that you and I could have life and not just have life, but have it abundantly. Now, "abundance" is an amazing word, isn't it? It means "plenty"; it means "overflow" – a very large quantity of something. But what if I told you that the original Greek word used here for ‘abundance' in John chapter 10 verse 10, literally means "super-abundance" – more than abundant; over the top abundance? Because that's exactly what it means. That's Jesus promise. And yet the promise is made here as a point of comparison – the promise is the second part of the verse. The first part of the verse is about someone else – the thief, he's called here in the story: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. And, in fact, as we have seen, this whole story where Jesus teaches us that He is the Good and True Shepherd of us, the sheep, is about the authenticity of who Jesus is as that Shepherd, verses the sham of the thief. Question is: why did Jesus make this beautiful promise in such a context? Well, of course the thief in the story is the devil and the original Greek word for the devil is "diabolos", which is the word from which we get our English word "diabolical". It means a slanderer; a false accuser. And elsewhere in the New Testament, in Revelation chapter 12 verse 9, the devil is also called "the deceiver" – someone who tricks people and leads them astray; away from the right path; away from truth, into error. That's the devil, here in the story – the thief who comes only to steal and kill and destroy. And so here Jesus presents us with an alternative – the thief or the True Shepherd. Now, you might say to me, "Well, that's no real alternative at all, is it? Who wants a thief who comes only to steal, kill and destroy? I'll have the Good Shepherd thanks, who came to give me a superabundant life." Of course, it's an obvious choice in the light of Jesus parable of the Good Shepherd here – He means for it to be an obvious choice because it is so obvious when you stop and think about it. Problem is we often don't stop; we often don't think about it because the devil doesn't always come to us looking like a thief. You know, like in a black beanie like he just broke out of prison. Quite on the contrary, in fact Second Corinthians chapter 11 verse 14, says: Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Isn't that true? The whole point of temptation is that it's tempting; it's seductive. Evil comes to us, wrapped in a wrapper that cries out to us, "Go on, open me, follow me, take me. I'm good, I'll bless you." The very first deception and temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden was exactly like that. Evil was dressed up as having benefit. That's why it's so diabolical – that's why the devil is a liar and a deceiver and so we are seduced by his lies and all of a sudden we are in the hands of a thief who truly came only to steal, kill and destroy – to rob us of the superabundant life that Jesus came to give us. Do you see the power of this parable? God wants to bless us. God wants to heap His superabundant blessing into our lives, but like any father, when His children are rebelling, He can't bless us because the blessing would reward the rebellion. When my children played up sometimes when they were young, the tap of father's blessing turned off. Sometimes they were punished by the removal of a privilege – no internet access for three months. Why, was I being mean? No! Because I was teaching them right from wrong and the basis of that lesson is that blessing comes when you do right and you lose it when you do wrong. Parents do that because, a) they love their children and b), we are wired by God to be like that. One of the very worst things that we can do – and you see it a lot these days – is to continue to bless our children when they are doing wrong. I want you to have a listen on one of the best explanations linked between obedience and blessing that I ever found in God's Word. It comes from Deuteronomy chapter 28, beginning at verse 1. If you have a Bible, can I encourage you to open up here – this is a really powerful passage – listen carefully to what God says to His people. Deuteronomy 28, beginning at verse 1: If you will only obey the Lord your God, by diligently observing all his commandments that I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth; all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the Lord your God. Blessed you shall be in the city, and blessed you shall be in your field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your livestock, both the increase of your cattle and the issue of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed you shall be when you come in, and blessed you shall be when you go out. The Lord will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways. The Lord will command the blessing upon your barns, and on all that you undertake; he will bless you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in his ways. All the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you. The Lord will make you abound in prosperity, in the fruit of your womb, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground in the land that the Lord swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open for you his rich storehouse, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all your undertakings. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. The Lord will make you the head, and not the tail; you shall be only at the top, and not at the bottom—if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am commanding you today, by diligently observing them, and if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I am commanding you today, either to the right or to the left, following other gods to serve them. But if you will not obey the Lord your God by diligently observing all his commandments and decrees, which I am commanding you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you. Cursed shall you be in your city, and cursed shall you be in your field. And then he goes on to list this whole bunch of not very nice curses. Do you see the causal link between obedience and blessing? Do you see that? And disobedience and the removal of that blessing - just as in any relationship between a parent and a child. But the thing that really strikes me here is the magnitude of the blessing – look at verse 2 again of Deuteronomy 28: All these blessing shall come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God. Don't you love how the blessing will come upon you but it will also overtake you – they will chase you down the street? This is the superabundant life that Jesus spoke about. Verse 13: The Lord will make you the head and not the tail – you shall be at the top and not the bottom if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I am commanding you today, by diligently observing them. Friend, listen God wants to bless us. And that doesn't always mean being rich and wealthy. Jesus wants to bless us with a life that is superabundant and rich so that His blessing chases us down the street and overtakes us. Do you get it? But that blessing happens when we are close to the Good Shepherd, safe in His care. It does not happen when we follow the thief and let him plunder our lives through deception and temptation because remember, the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy but Jesus came that you and I might have life and have it abundantly. Our Dad in heaven truly does want us to be the head and not the tail; the top and not the bottom. I mean, what dad wouldn't want that for his children? A Different Perspective You know what I think happens as we grind away at life or at least, life grinds away at us? I think we lose our sense of perspective. We hear these promises from Jesus about an abundant life and then we look at the reality of our own lives – all the trials and temptations tearing away at us – and we come to the conclusion that, well, it may have been possible two thousand years ago to have this so called "abundant life", it may even be possible for other people but this promise definitely is not for me; I mean, can't be! Look at my life, I mean, really!! I said it before and I am going to say it again: His promise is for an abundant life not a perfect one. His promise is that we can have His blessings in the middle of the ups and downs of life. Deuteronomy 28, verse 2: All these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God. Verse 13: The Lord will make you the head and not the tail. You shall only be at the top, not the bottom if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I am giving you today by diligently observing them. And how does that work? Well, Jesus told us – John chapter 17, verse 15: I am not asking you Dad, to take them out of this world. I am asking you to protect them from the evil one. See, we are blessed not by God taking us out of this world and wrapping us in cotton-wool, we are blessed in the middle of our lives, just as they are at the moment. We live in an "aspirational" world – by that I mean we are always hoping for something better out of life; we are always expecting things to improve. Sometimes they do but sometimes they don't and sometimes it takes much longer than we would like and so people … many people spend much of their lives grumpy and down and complaining and, before you know it, life has slipped away and we haven't enjoyed the life that God has given us. Friend, God's Word says that the joy of the Lord is our strength – Nehemiah chapter 8, verse 10: The joy of the Lord is our strength. Friend, it's time to start enjoying what we have – like those sheep in the story of the good shepherd. They still had to walk miles over rocky plateaus in search of pasture. Some days it was hot, some days it was cold, some days it was wet and windy and blowing – it wasn't always comfortable. But no matter, that's life; it's how it is. The point was that they were safe because they were with the good shepherd; the one true shepherd who they knew was prepared to lay down his life for them. And so they had peace and security and the deep knowledge of the life-giving love of their shepherd. Friend, that's what an abundant life is. So often in my life, in the past and yes, even now, I am confronted by circumstances that are difficult; circumstances that sometimes are painful; circumstances that I certainly wouldn't have chosen for myself. And the temptation … the temptation is either to curl up in a ball in the corner and give up or to come out punching and hurt other people. Have you ever felt like that? I do some days. I was sitting with a man just yesterday, over coffee, chatting about this very thing. He was going through some difficult things and I shared with him how, in my life – because I choose to spend time each day with Jesus; because I choose, albeit often imperfectly, to believe in Him with my life – I have this constant joy. Okay, sometimes I'm downcast, but it can't last long because the joy of the Lord is my strength. Friend, God is such a good God! He is the True Shepherd and He laid down His life for us. It's a totally different perspective on life and it's a perspective that, to me, has only come as I have developed a real, intimate relationship with Jesus. I believe it's a gift from Him. I believe it's the normative Christian life. I believe that it's not just for the so called ‘super-spiritual' but it's for everyone and the reason so many are missing out is because they haven't taken the step of faith to believe this promise from Jesus with their life. Listen … listen very carefully, Jesus meant it for all the sheep. He meant it for you, He meant it for me. Listen … John chapter 10, verse 10: The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. But I,” said Jesus, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Friend, that is God's promise for me and for you!!
I was sitting in the van we drove back then, idling at a red light, when suddenly this cloud of dark, acrid smoke starts belching out of my exhaust pipe. It was disgusting! Apparently, the motorists behind me felt the same way because they started honking at me! That helped a lot! I just wish honking would have solved the problem. It didn't. One mechanic told me, "I wouldn't leave town with that van if I were you." And he was right. Guess what? The smoke wasn't the problem. The problem was the engine, and it didn't need to be fixed. It was too far gone for that. It had to be replaced! I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Why We Keep Hurting People We Love." The van I drove away from that garage looked like the same van I drove into that garage. But that was not true! It was new on the inside, and as a result it was no longer leaving an ugly trail. Actually, a lot of us have some emissions coming out of our lives that aren't too pleasant either. Maybe you know some of those feelings, and too often there's anger spewing out. There's self-pity because you feel like a victim, or just critical attitudes, negative attitudes. You later regret what you said. You do something that you regret later. Maybe you're hooked on what you wish you could stop and wish you'd never started. We leave a trail behind us of people who have choked on the smoke and the pollution we put out. And it's not that we haven't tried to fix it - New Years resolutions, religion, self-improvement. We've tried to stop polluting our own lives and the lives of those around us, but there's a problem inside. And God diagnoses that problem in His Book in Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" The engine is shot and it can't be fixed. It has to be replaced. Which leads us to God's tremendous offer, our word for today from the Word of God. This is great! Ezekiel 36:26 - "I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you. I will remove from you a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit in you." God says our heart is too darkened and hardened by sin to ever quit putting out pollution. We can certainly never get into His totally unpolluted heaven with this polluted heart. We all have it. Our only hope for this life and for eternal life is a new heart. And we can't perform heart surgery on ourselves. Only the Divine Surgeon can do that, and He stands ready to take that heart of yours that's been hardened by all the hurt, the anger, the sin, and He will replace it with a heart that is clean, and sensitive and new. He'll put His Holy Spirit in you to make you the person you've wanted to be but never could be. But the operation had to be paid for; just as the engine replacement on my van had to be paid for. And, you know, I didn't have the money to pay. But to my amazement, some of God's people quietly got together and actually paid the bill for that replacement. That's what Jesus was doing for you when He was agonizing on the cross. He was paying the bill for your sins that you could never pay so you could be forgiven. Are you ready for a new heart? Well, then, it's time to open your heart to Jesus Christ. I would love to help you be sure that you have been forgiven, that you are free, and that you have begun this transforming, personal love relationship with Jesus. That's why our website is there. Would you check it out today? It's ANewStory.com . All our lives we try to stop the ugly stuff that comes out of us, but it just doesn't come until we get a new engine - a new heart. Jesus is waiting for you right now to tell Him that you want it.

Isaiah returns to the hope that the LORD has for His people who trust in Him alone. Isaiah proclaims Christ as the glorious Branch of the LORD who makes His people prosperous through faith in Him. He cleanses His people from their sin and guilt to make them holy and to write their names in His Book of Life. He will lead them on a new exodus and be present with them to be their refuge and shelter forever. These gifts are ours in the Church right now, even as we wait for their complete fulfillment when Jesus returns on the Last Day. Rev. Luke Zimmerman, pastor at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Isaiah 4:2-6. "The Fifth Evangelist” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through Isaiah 1-39. The prophet proclaims to the people of his day and throughout history that the Holy One of Israel alone is exalted. Those who put their trust in the strength of man will be brought low, but those who trust in the LORD will see that He is their Immanuel. Jesus is God with us who reigns over the kingdom of God forever and ever! Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

...That's All She Wrote Have you ever written a book? Or thought you might? It seems like a good idea until you start trying to put the words on the page. Or laptop. Everyone has the material to write a book, but not everyone will take the time to write it. The truth is that every single human being has written a book, is still in the process of writing it, or will write it when they are born. The biographies of our lives are transcribed in Heaven. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. (Re 20:12) So there are books of our lives. Why so many? Perhaps we are also judged according to the places our lives intersected other lives in their books. And then there is THE book, The Book of Life. This is the standard by which every life will be judged. It is the Law of the Land and the Law of Heaven. The Word of Adonai. The things written in the book are the deeds of each individual. What you write is your “name,” or reputation, based on your deeds and attitudes. In Hebrew naming, the name chosen for a child represents the many righteous deeds that the parents hope will characterize his or her biography. The Greek word for “written” is grapho: Strong's Definitions ????? gráph?, to "grave", especially to write; to describe. Outline of Biblical Usage I.to write, with reference to the form of the letters to delineate (or form) letters on a tablet, parchment, paper, or other material II.to write, with reference to the contents of the writing to express in written characters to commit to writing (things not to be forgotten), write down, record used of those things which stand written in the sacred books (of the OT) to write to one, i.e. by writing (in a written epistle) to give information, directions So congratulations, you're an author! Your book will be judged by the Author of Life Who wrote THE Book of Life, our instructions. He wrote the basics of life, gave us THE Book, and then breathed life into us so we could start writing. As we grew and learned His Book, we began to write, first instinctively, then consciously, our book intersecting with thousands, maybe millions, of other biographies. Imagine the size of Abraham and Sarah's books at this point. What you write can certainly affect the biographies of those who are born after you! While the Torah instructs us in the precepts, each person may creatively live them, making the biography uniquely his or hers. Imagine how the Father takes joy when we find a beautiful or inspired way to write that precept into our own biography. When we write such beautiful things in our book, we are beautifying our garments as a Bride-to-be awaiting the arrival of her husband. That's not nearly as scary as the second resurrection, which is reserved for those who were not gathered into the cloud at the first resurrection. In our weekly Zoom classes, we have been examining the twenty-four garments of the Bride as listed in Isaiah Three. Although Isaiah is chastising Israel for using those garments for the harlotry of idolatry, the judgment prophesied gives insight into how those twenty-four garments should be used to prepare for the Bridegroom's coming. “Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads.” (Re 4:4) Everything is double on Shabbat. Double manna. Double joy. Double peace. Guard and remember. In celebrating Shabbat, the Bride experiences a taste of Heaven on earth, a peaceful millennium and firstborn double portion under the rule of Messiah when “the day that is all Shabbat” is administrated by the twelve tribes of Israel from their assigned gates of New Jerus...

Over the past 20 years, Pam has published the evidence base to the programs known as Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC, or 'The Possums Programs'), translating the research into education programs offering a paradigm shift in the way we help families who face breastfeeding, baby sleep, and cry-fuss challenges. Her groundbreaking work is detailed in 30 international research publications and her best-selling book, The Discontented Little Baby Book. In this conversation, we discuss how to optimize infant development, parental well-being, and grow joy in early life. Pam emphasizes the importance of experimentation and frequent, flexible breastfeeding in the early days and also discusses the Gestalt method of fit and hold. In terms of sleep, Pam acknowledges the polarizing nature of the sleep training debate and highlights the need for individualized approaches to sleep based on the unique needs of the baby and family. We also discuss the importance of understanding the biological needs of babies when it comes to sleep, emphasizing that sleep distress in our society is often caused by societal and health system-induced beliefs and practices that are not evidence-based. Pam highlights the variability in babies' sleep needs and advocates for a more evolutionary and intuitive approach to parenting that focuses on meeting babies' sensory and motor needs.
