Happy Lunar New Year! We are officially in the year of the Snake and I like to take the Lunar New Year as a great time to pause, reflect and reset. You may be tuning into this episode and feeling like times are a little uncertain, there might be change happening within your life or your organisation, and it can feel a little overwhelming to navigate the uncertainty or feeling like you're going backwards.Managing uncertainty requires resilience, and resilience is a skill that you can build to become better equipped at facing challenges and changes. A great place to start is to hit pause and take some time to reflect about where you're going, what changes are happening around you and the skills that can support you through this.In this week's episode of The Aligned Achiever Podcast I'm talking about embracing balance in leadership, navigating the changing DEI space in organisations and tools that can help you continue moving forward. For all the show notes come on over to: https://siobhanbarnes.com/123
Happy Lunar New Year friends! We hope you are having a wonderful time this week. As we look towards Sunday, let us be reminded of Hosea 6:6, which says, "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings." In this new year, let us continue to prioritize compassion over convenience, understanding over judgment, and togetherness over isolation. If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!” They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Lunar New Year to everyone out there. Here's a really fun episode with Rich Ting. Rich has been acting in Hollywood and Korea for over 25 years. And has appeared in or voiced over 60 shows and movies. He is perhaps most famous for portraying Father Jun's loyal henchman, Bolo, in Warrior (Netflix). Rich is currently starring as Tyson "Koy" Koyama in Amazon Prime's On Call, a Dick Wolf production. Kim Szeto and I had a great time chatting with Rich for over an hour. Rich never takes any of his roles for granted, knowing that it has been a decades-long struggle to get characters like these on the screen. Watch On Call on Amazon Prime Video! Happy Lunar New Year! Today marks the beginning of the Year of the Snake. And it’s an extra special Lunar New Year in Washington, because this year, for the first time, it’s a state holiday. Festivities have already been happening in many places, but the festival officially goes for the next 15 days, with celebrations all over the state. For Chinese and other Asian cultures, a critical part of these celebrations is lion dancing. Soundside went to 51-year-old lion dancing school Mak Fai Dragon and Lion Dancing Association in Seattle to visit dancers preparing for their busy season. Episode Intro: Dear listeners of the Female Guides Requested Podcast, Happy Wednesday, and Happy Lunar New Year of the Snake! This is your host Ting Ting from Las Vegas. Today, we have Izzy Lazarus as our guest. I've known Izzy for a while, but it wasn't until last fall that I finally got to meet her in person when she came to Red Rock for her AMGA Rock Guide Exam. I knew I had to have her on the show. Izzy grew up in NYC, playing hockey, skateboarding, and finding a connection with the ocean. Her mountain pursuits began with a pre-orientation backpacking trip in the thick Vermont woods, and she's been hooked ever since. Courses in rock and ice climbing and outdoor leadership led her to work at the Colorado Outward Bound School after college. Izzy spent several years working multi-week climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, and backcountry skiing courses, both domestically and abroad. In 2017, she moved to the Tetons to work as an alpine and backcountry ski guide. Between Teton seasons, she traveled and worked in the Southwest desert region and various peaks in the Northwest and Cascades. Several years later, life took her back to Vermont to work for the UVM Outdoor Programs Dept and guide on the side. Izzy has a passion for adventure that is only surpassed by her love of education, teaching, building connections with people from around the world, and cooking! Izzy is a Certified Rock Guide, Assistant Splitboard Guide, and Apprentice Alpine Guide. We talked about Izzy's different transitions in life, from a big city to the great outdoors, from seasonal guiding to a full-time job. We discussed what ignited these transitions, how she managed the changes, and what she learned from her experiences. Izzy always seems to have a positive outlook on life and genuinely cares about the people around her, wanting to learn from them. Izzy's energy and positive attitude towards life are truly radiant. I had so much fun chatting with her, and I bet you'll enjoy our conversation too. Izzy's Links: Izzy's profile on AMGA website Setting the Track Things We Talked about: From a big city to the mountains The power of metaphors What guiding is about for Izzy Izzy's first mountain experience From 13 years of hockey to finding identity in the outdoors The UVM outdoor programs West versus East for example Tetons versus Vermont Outward Bound years Nudged and mentored by other amazing female guides in the Teton Valley Female representation in the guiding / climbing community Seasonal guiding versus a full time job Sustainability Information gathering Izzy loves planning but also loves spontaneity Burn outs? Happy Lunar New Year! It's the year of the snake, and it's time for reflection, growth and careful decision-making. Sing (Stephen Chow) experiences all of this. In 1940's Shanghai, Sing and his friend Bone (Tze-Chung Lam) try and fail at grifting their way into a housing complex. They turn to the Axe Gang for assistance and recruitment, and they fail at that as well. The Axe Gang is also extremely unhappy with the powers that Landlord (Wah Yuen) and Landlady (Qiu Yuen) have because they are able to defend where they live. The gang then break an undefeated killer, The Beast (Siu-Lung Leung), out of an asylum to seek vengeance. Once Sing realizes what is right and when he stops robbing Fong (Shengyi Huang) and her ice-cream money, he is able to harness his chi and become the kung fu genius these citizens need. True ultimate power! RTS checks out the local cuisine. La-Mar takes flight and jumps off an eagle. Jeremy attempts to roundhouse his way out of a “class 3 kill storm.” Look inward and find what you need.

Partners since birth, our first guest Stephen Servis owns Servis Events with his twin brother Nicolas. Stephen joined us on the show to discuss how both he and his brother became chefs through some pivotal decisions made earlier in their lives. Years later, Stephen and his brother built a reputation based on being heavily tattooed twin Chefs. Post pandemic, they decided to try something new and found WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) while staying with at a farm to work. This led them to another farm, located in Maine, where the seeds for Servis Events were planted and began to bloom. Now, they're back in Bucks County, sourcing the most nutrient-rich ingredients from local farms, providing a multi-course Chef's Tasting Menu to individuals looking for their services as private Chefs through Servis Events. Our next guest helps Center City celebrate Vietnamese cuisine and culture, along with so much more at Miss Saigon. Chuong Nguyen is the Operating Manager and one of the co-owners of Miss Saigon in Philadelphia. The multi-level restaurant and bar offers an elevated take on Vietnamese street foods; providing menu options that are served family-style to encourage patrons to experience a variety of the tastes and flavors of the culture's cuisine. In addition to celebrating Vietnamese cuisine, the venue also provides a celebration full of PRIDE through their cocktail menu: There is a cocktail created for every color of the PRIDE flag! And be sure to reserve your opportunity to eat, drink, and sing inside their private Karaoke room with your friends! And keep your ears peeled through the end of this week's episode to find out when their first drag show will happen! Our last guest has brought people together on a global level! Gizem White, who is an expert in Gastrodiplomacy and is the Founder and CEO of the Turkish Coffee Lady located in Alexandria, VA. Gizem's story began as she desired to share the history--and cups--of Turkish coffee with like-minded individuals. And in 2012, Gizem created a non-profit food truck called The Turkish Coffee Truck, where she handed out free cups of brewed Turkish Coffee. Years later, her efforts brought her media attention and recognition, including an article which stuck and later became synonymous with her brand. So in 2017, she created the Turkish Coffee Lady brand in the U.S. Now, after visiting several countries and cities across the globe, Gizem and her brand Turkish Coffee Lady are considered as a "Friendship building initiative between Turkey and the USA," according to the US government. I don't know about you, but the love of a great cup of coffee is a perfect way to bring people together--so stay tuned until the end to hear how you can buy some of her Turkish Coffee Lady blends and enjoy it with some new friends!
Happy Lunar New Year! In this episode, we discuss lunar new year traditions, legends, and foods eaten. We hope you have a prosperous Year of the Dragon!
Happy Lunar New Year! According to the Chinese lunisolar calendar, the new year began Saturday. For many, like our host Regina G. Barber, this calendar and its cultural holidays can feel completely detached from the Gregorian calendar. Growing up, she associated the former with the Spring Festival and getting money in red envelopes from relatives, and the other with more American traditions. But the Chinese calendar has a deep, centuries-long shared history with the Gregorian calendar. To learn more about this shared history, Gina talks to scientists and historians, who spill the tea about the science behind calendars, and how both calendars and the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration played a key role in the rise and fall of empires. Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome to the Year of the Wood Dragon. The Dragon is an auspicious creature that symbolizes vitality, vision, vigor, power, nobility, honor, luck, and success. (chinahighlights.com). Dragon years are defined by momentum . The element is wood, which fuels flames and enhances the intensity and instability of the dragon. Globally, a Wood Dragon year might mean that things might get a bit turbulent, progress will come, but it might not be smooth. The lesson isn't about compromise, where someone or everyone loses, but finding creative solutions where everyone gains more than expected. Are you feeling tired and unmotivated? Are you looking for change and a bold approach to bring in something new? The Year of the Wood Dragon is forecasted to bring about opportunities, changes, and challenges. Another message of this year: Strength is a gift to be lent, not a power to be wielded. How will you embody the Qi of the dragon? Can you shift away from compromise and instead can you find creative solutions where everyone gains more than expected? If you want to show up creatively in the year ahead, where everyone gains more than expected, mindfulness and coaching will help a ton. We invite you to dive into coaching or a retreat. www.jessiemahoneymd.com If you are looking for a speaker, reach out to Dr. Liang www.awakenbreath.org, or Dr. Mahoney www.jessiemahoneymd/com/speaking *Nothing in this podcast is medical advice.

Today on the show... Khara Croswaite Brindle is a licensed mental health therapist in private practice in in Denver, Colorado. She holds various roles, including financial therapist, TEDx Speaker, burnout consultant, author, and professor. Her new book is Understanding Ruptured Mother-Daughter Relationships: Guiding the Adult Daughter's Healing Journey through the Estrangement Energy Cycle (Rowman & Littlefield, July 1, 2023). You can learn more and access a wealth of tools at estrangementenergycycle.comWith as many as 1 in 12 people being estranged from a family member, Khara shares her experience and knowledge gained assisting several female clients through the stages of estrangement. The choice is a challenging one and typically follows an emotional cycle that eventually lessens the grief and leads the adult daughter to discover a new sense of self. While each individual's journey is unique, therapists, as well as those contemplating or trying to heal from estrangement, can benefit from recognizing the energy cycle of estrangement. Khara talks about the incorrect assumptions that are made about estrangement, the social stigma, how to support someone who is considering or going through estrangement, as well as how to support your children if you are going through the stages of estrangement.PLUS! We have a little time to talk about burnout and how it became something that she now supports others through. A subject that is right up my alley as ending burnout is an antidote to the patriarchy!I continue on once our conversations completes to share some info about the Mother Wound that I came across many years ago. It's a fascinating read and contemplation for anyone out there as we're all contributing to it by participating in the patriarchal structures and systems. Here's the information on the Campaign for Child Care happening in New York State. And here's the article I mentioned about child care in The Cut.Finally, here's the New Moon report. The Chinese 5 Elements Oracle is a deck to accompany you in the adventure that is and will be 2024, and also in the new cycle we find ourselves according to Chinese Metaphysics. 2024 launches “the Age of 9” which is the last cycle of the 180-year great cycle of the Nine Periods. It is said to bring back a rise in Yin Energy, ruled by the Fire trigram Li which is associated with spirituality and middle aged women (never been so excited to turn 40 this year!!) The Lunar New Year itself will welcome the Wood Dragon. We met with Vicki Iskandar, creator of The Chinese Five Elements Oracle, in this podcast to discuss what we can expect from this cycle and symbolism. Surprisingly, Vicki's words on this card and cycle were all about joy. In 2024, we find ourselves in an election year, not just in the United States, but with over 50 countries deciding between authoritarian and democratic leaders. Already we see divisiveness and tension playing out with over 110 armed conflicts through out the world - how can we possibly participate and cultivate joy? "Joy, associated with Fire element, is the key to raising our frequency. This is especially critical in the Age of 9… As the world becomes more divided, those who are able to cultivate inner joy will be the ones who'll keep moving up on the path to bring light to others; fear and negativity may push others to spiral downward." ~Vicki Iskander Many of the messages within The Chinese Five Elements Oracle are designed lovingly to stoke your inner joy. From the messages of Heaven and Earth to the charming illustrations provided by Candice Soon, you are sure to find that special spark that is uniquely your own joy. Happy 2024! Happy Lunar New Year! Happy Age of 9 to you! To glimpse imagery from this glorious deck in the Video Interview, along with other perks, please become a paid subscriber on Substack!
