This week, we're throwing it back to one of our favorite interviews! When writer/director Justin Simien (Dear White People, Haunted Mansion) first saw William Greaves' groundbreaking 1968 film, Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One. He was mad. Not about the film's avant-garde style (part fiction, part documentary, part  performance art) but about the fact that he hadn't seen it sooner -- it might've saved him a lot of trouble as he found his way in a challenging, second-guessing industry. Now Justin is introducing more people to the contributions to cinema made by Black creatives like Greaves, through his series Hollywood Black, now streaming from MGM+.Then Jordan has one quick thing about the politics of horror! It's a terrifyingly good take.  Feeling Seen is hosted by Jordan Crucchiola and is a production Maximum Fun. Need more Feeling Seen? Keep up with the show on Instagram and Bluesky.

"Dear White People" writer/director Justin Simien joins Joshua Turek to discuss the book "Hollywood Black" which was the source material for his new docu-series of the same name. At the top of the Hollywood ladder but still dissatisfied, it was the books of Hollywood historian, Donald Bogle, specifically his Black history pieces which inspired Justin to become conduit of untold contributions to cinema by Black filmmakers by making a documentary telling their stories. He also discusses the book "The War of Art" and its heavy influence on breaking through his own creative resistances to getting the work done and finally completing his Sundance film "Dear White People" which also later became a show on Netflix. Lastly, he shares "Inner Gold" by Robert A Johnson, a Jungian self help book made simple for the people, dealing heavily in how to understand your own power in a world constantly asking you to give it away. All these books form a tapestry for how Justin approaches his art and life, his conversation is lively and illuminating. Enjoy! And be share to rate the podcast if you are enjoying it! Butterfly”, “Love Letters”, “Ragtime” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.  Off-Broadway, he starred in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” and “Counsellor at Law”, for which he received the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Lead Actor in a Play, as well as nominations for both the Outer Critics' and Drama League Awards.   He's appeared in over 200 movies, TV shows, made-for-TV movies and miniseries.  Some of his most popular feature films are “Getting Straight”, “The Boys From Brazil”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “Another Stakeout”, “21 Grams”, “The Candlelight Murders” and “Being the Ricardos”.  On TV you've seen him in dozens of TV shows including “Family”, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination, “Crazy Like a Fox”, “Bureau of Alien Detectors”, “Star Trek Enterprise”, “The Young and the Restless”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Dear White People”, “Claws” and many more.    His TV movies include “The American Clock”, for which he received a Cable Ace Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, “M.A.D.D.: Mothers Against Drunk Drivers”, “The Gift of the Magi”, “Norma Jean and Marilyn”, and “Liberace”.   And some of his noteworthy miniseries are “The French Atlantic Affair”, “Roots: The Next Generations”, “The Two Mrs. Grenvilles”, “When we Rise”, “Feud”, and “Headless: A Sleepy Hollow Story”.   He's directed many stage productions, including “Les Liaisons Dangeureuses”, “Macbeth”, “Wait Until Dark”, “Brigadoon”, “Guys and Dolls” and many other shows.  Our guest is also a brilliant composer, which comes as no surprise, given that he's the son of the greatest pianist of all time, in my opinion, Arthur Rubinstein.  And he's the grandson of the renowned Polish violinist, conductor and composer Emil Młynarski.   He's written the music scores for a number of movies and TV shows including “Jeremiah Johnson”, “The Candidate”, “Family”, “The Ordeal of Patty Hearst”, “Johnny Belinda”, “China Beach” and “A Walton Wedding”.  And believe me, I'm just scratching the surface of this man's prodigious body of work. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about John Rubinstein and the film, go to: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0748270/https://www.playbill.com/person/john-rubinstein-vault-0000020233 #JohnRubinstein    #harveybrownstoneinterviews

New hate speech law in Ireland goes farther than anything else so far in formerly free Western countries with the stated purpose of imprisoning government critics — will Irish flags be an arrestable offense by the Greens & commies who have taken over the country? Why are more whistleblowers coming forward about government using social media for censorship and propaganda narratives? It was being run by Special Forces, CIA, NSA, DARPA, funded by the same, yet they claim that by making it "public-private partnership" they could get around the Constitution This is much deeper and older than this article and the newly published info alleges, but the whistleblower document names names — so what should be done to these criminals and violators of the Constitution they swore to uphold?Ron Paul calls for "separation of tech & state". What does that mean? Will it work?A look at the "bump-stock ban" equivalents of free speech and free exercise of religion. Things that are not important in themselves except for the precedent they set and the strategies they use to take control…Self-identified pedophile tranny finally arrested after 5 years of threats to murder — he was protected by feds like the tranny-festo in NashvilleMeatless robot restaurants open as Thomas Massie pushes to make real farming legal againSports mascots, racist reporters — will the "Chiefs" mascot be the Cowardly Lion? Why is Santa always white?
