I don't have a BIG EGO, that's all you or someone else‼️ RIGHT?! Or Wrong!! As humans, we all deal with some aspect of needing to check our ego, whether that's “shouting” how good we are, or “thinking” how good we are… Did Adam and Eve set a pattern? Let's talk?
WelcomeWelcome to Season 3, Episode 8 of The Calling Podcast, Follow Your Spirit All the Way In.Today we close the 8-part series inspired by one of my most important masterclasses, The Healer. In this final episode, I open a terminology I have been working with for many years — the awakened healer.Episode summaryIn this conversation, I explore why many healers awaken through challenge, yet challenge itself does not automatically create healing gifts, compassion, or faith. I share how the wounded healer myth can become a glass ceiling, keeping us identified with the wound and led by protection that is actually separation.I break down the difference between the big ego and the little ego, and how the little ego often shows up as self doubt, hesitation, and the belief that I am not ready. I also share what it takes to say goodbye to the wound as an identity, even when the wound remains part of the story, so I can lead with truth, wholeness, and light. As we close, I offer reflection questions to help you notice where the wound might still be driving your choices, voice, visibility, love, and finances, and what it looks like to lead myself in wholeness, one with light, one with truth.Key takeawaysThe challenge is only the door. Many people go through pain and lose faith. The shift is in what I choose to give life force to, and whether I move into connection.Healing is forward motion. I am not returning to who I was before. I am moving into a more expanded version of myself. The wounded healer can become a glass ceiling. If I am in love with the wound, I will keep matching the same frequency and limits. The little ego often disguises itself as protection. It says I am not ready, I cannot do it, do not show up, do not speak.Truth is the deepest protection. When I am aligned, in truth, and speaking clearly, I am protected. The wound can be part of my story, not my identity. When I stop leading with the wound, it stops driving my choices.Reflection questionsWhere am I still giving my power to the wound?Where am I letting protection become separation?Where is my little ego guiding me with I cannot, I am not ready, or I am not enough? How do I lead myself in wholeness, one with light, one with truth?Thank you for listening and being part of this conversation. Welcome back to All One Song, A Neil Young Podcast presented by Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions. We're spending the summer talking to a few of our favorite artists and writers about their favorite Neil Young song. Our guest this week is Jeff Parker, best known as the guitarist for the long-running Chicago post-rock group Tortoise. Jeff has been on a serious hot streak of late. He's released awesome, entirely solo records like Slight Freedom and Forfolks, along with great albums with the New Breed. He's collabed with heavy hitters like Daniel Villareal and Makaya McKraven. He's been an invaluable part of the Big Ego label's session player roster, contributing to great records by Psychic Temple, Dave Easley and Maria Elena Silva. And Jeff is the leader of one of the most exciting improv groups working today — the ETA quartet, featuring Parker, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Anna Butterss and saxophonist Josh Johnson. Their second LP, The Way Out of Easy, was one of the very best records of 2024. Oh and did we mention that there's a brand new Tortoise album on the way later this year? Jeff is a busy dude, to say the least. Now Jeff might not seem like the most obvious All One Song guest — his and Neil's styles feel miles apart. At least at first! But as we get into in our conversation, Jeff has found some serious inspiration in Young's unique approach to the acoustic guitar. And the acoustic guitar is central to the song he selected to talk about: “The Needle and the Damage Done.” This haunting solo number from 1972's Harvest remains one of Neil's signature tunes. It's a song that even the most casual of fans knows by heart. But Jeff's perspective on this warhorse opened it back up — and hopefully it'll do the same for you. Live performances often bring an energy and spontaneity that studio recordings can't fully capture. On stage, musicians interact with the audience, infusing the song with a palpable energy and improvisational flair. The live setting can also allow for reinterpretation of arrangements—extended solos, altered tempos, or unexpected twists—that make the experience feel more personal and vibrant compared to the polished, precise nature of studio versions. Just ask legendary bassist Mike Watt, who is about to embark on his 72nd tour over his 45 year career - a career that started with one of the greatest American punk bands ever, Minutemen, and countless projects including fIREHOSE, The Stooges, dos, and, currently, mssv. mssv is a post-genre supergroup consisting of watt, drummer Stephen Hodges (who played on some of Tom Waits's classic records, among others), and led by guitarist extraordinaire Mike Baggetta. Mike's singular and very personal musical style seeks to blur the lines between song and solo, while connecting a wide range of musical genres that influence him. The press says this approach is “…beguilingly atmospheric…” (Time Out New York) and that “Baggetta's music is quietly transgressive… Even when he plays a lot of notes, his playing can sound almost static, as though ideas were being snagged out of thin air.” (Hartford Courant) Baggetta's most recent release is the album Everywhen We Go, his second album with drummer Jim Keltner and bassist Mike Watt on the BIG EGO label. He also leads the band mssv, is a post-genre power trio featuring the iconoclastic rhythm team of drummer Stephen Hodges and bassist Mike Watt. They have just released their self-titled debut studio album, Main Steam Stop Valve, on BIG EGO Records, following up 2020's Live Flowers album on Striped Light Records, recorded live in Philadelphia, PA and Northampton, MA (with special guest J Mascis), as well as 3 limited edition 7” releases recorded solely over quarantine, featuring guest artists Petra Haden and Nels Cline. After completing their first full US tour in spring 2022 mssv recorded their second full length album for release next year. This band grew out of Baggetta's first album for BIG EGO, Wall of Flowers, which featured a reimagining of his music alongside bassist Mike Watt and drummer Jim Keltner. Baggetta has had the pleasure to work all over the world with a wide range of visionary musicians across many generations including David Torn, Jim Keltner, Mike Watt, Nels Cline, Psychic Temple, Jeff Coffin, Henry Kaiser, Petra Haden, Rev. Fred Lane, Donny McCaslin, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, Joseph C. Philips' Numinous, Imani Uzuri, Viktor Krauss, David Wax Museum, Julian Lage, Jon Irabagon, Jerome Harris, Tom Harrell, Eivind Opsvik, Jeremy Udden, and Ruth Brown among many others. Fear will stop you in your tracks, but what if you could make friends with fear? Here's 3 things you can do today… Kim McMillen discovered, “When I loved myself enough I began to see that my ego is part of my soul. With this shift in perception it lost its stridency and paranoia, and it could do its job.” Rich Joshi from Power Thoughts Meditation Club wrote this, "The Ego's role is to protect you, but it takes itself too seriously at times." (Karen England) @RishaJoshi @PowerThoughtsMeditationClub The next time your ego is triggered by fear, take a look at your E.G.O. by evolving and growing… Evolving and Growing Our E.G.O. YOUR E.G.O. Ask yourself... 1. E: Emergency or Experience? 2. G: Get or Receive? 3. O: Open or Closed? When you do this, it will no longer be about ego, but you'll say to yourself, "IGO"... :) Keep growing. Productive Not Busy- Do Life and Business Confident Focused and with a Plan
So, is having a big ego good or bad? It depends on what's important to you. There are several advantages to having a big ego: 1. A big ego can lead to big success. You're unlikely to ever become a national level politician, a CEO, or succeed in any highly competitive field without a big ego. Big egos love to outdo the competition. So, an ego can be invaluable when the competition is fierce. 2. A big ego can be helpful in overcoming obstacles. Those with big egos are so often so pleased with themselves that they don't allow silly obstacles to stand in their way. They think they can do anything, so why would an obstacle be a significant issue? A big ego can allow you to set huge goals and believe that you can achieve them. The unreasonable level of confidence that often accompanies a big ego can be an asset. However, the news isn't all positive. There are also disadvantages to having a big ego: 1.You're often too concerned about the opinions of others. While some people with big egos couldn't care less what others think, others are obsessed with the opinions of others. A big ego can suffer big pain when it's not appreciated as much as it thinks it should be. 2.You're never satisfied. An ego is a hungry beast that's never full. You can't do enough to satisfy a big ego. It always wants more. Whether it's power, money, attention, or praise, it can't get enough. Those with big egos never experience peace. 3.It can be detrimental to those around you. Your ego can harm the people around you, which is the biggest reason why many people avoid egotistical people. When you're focused on yourself and satisfying your ego, others are just a means to an end. 4.Your ego can blind you to the truth. Your ego lies to you. You can't see the truth, because your ego greatly influences your perception. 5.Your ego can make you afraid of failure. An overactive ego likes to protect itself. It's your ego that makes you uncomfortable when you want to try something new. It's your ego that tries to stop you from talking to the beautiful woman or the handsome man. Your ego can be a good thing, or a negative thing, depending on the situation. Your ego can make you sensitive to failure or overconfident in your abilities. Your ego can drive you to be successful, but it can also harm those you care about the most. Be aware of your ego and how it influences your behavior and your goals. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wayne-weathersby/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wayne-weathersby/support
So many people seem to be offended by the fact that women are showing up louder, taking up more space, and caring less. How unfortunate. Women have been told for so long to be sweet and docile and for many of us that's never been our truth. We deserve to have egos, be respected, and be heard. And it should not be a problem Men and Women could peacefully coexist and maybe even get some things accomplished if we weren't always fighting about roles and whos who. We are US. Don't be threatened, take notes.
Julie & Adrian have the chisme on relationships & why they're all driven by one's own ego. Lauren London was on Angie Martinez's IRL podcast talking about why she may never get married again because relationships are "ego driven & not pure". So of course we had to share our thoughts. The Pop Culture Pop Up has chisme on Constance Wu sharing that she tried to end her life after her viral tweets about her show being picked up for another season, the broadway drama of the century revolving around Beanie Feldstein & Lea Michelle, & Jada Pinkett Smith had an affair with Marc Anthony. Are you aware of the many ways your ego can stand in your way of true happiness? Let's talk about it.
