The goal is to talk Hockey with passion, thoughtful insights, original opinions and be entertaining. I said that’s the goal, not actually what it is now! Soups on Hockey, where we're good at talking hockey, and HORRIBLE at making soup

Between the Jays loss and the way the Oilers are playing, this isn't very fun.

After a brutal weekend, the Oilers got back in the win column with a respectable 60 minute effort.

That was hideous...but they somehow pulled it out to win two straight. I'm not even sure we've seen the Oilers D game yet, and they're 4-3-1. Good sign.

On this edition of the BS, I lead off with a lot of baseball specifically the Jays and the ALCS! I get a little political as I bitch about the woke agenda, Carter Hart signing in Vegas, Elias Pettersson being underwhelming yet again, Matthew Schaefer and the 2030 Team Canada blueline, a quick look at the Canadian teams and as always the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers are now on a 3 game losing streak heading into the final game of this road trip (kind of) on Tuesday in Ottawa.

The Oilers are 2-0-1. Given how the last 3 October's have gone, I'll gladly take it!

Jays, Oilers/Flames, Skinner, Ekholm extension and Roslovic signs.

The final show of my season preview show's, I lay out my power rankings list, followed by the range of where I believe each team will finish during the regular season, my playoff predictions and my award predictions as we get ready for puckdrop on the 25-26 NHL season!

My subjective list of the top 25 players (skaters, no goaltenders on this list) entering the 25-26 NHL season.

An all Oilers short shift as McDavid extends for dirt cheap, Walman extends for 7 more years, and what it all could mean for the Oilers over the next 3 seasons.

My subjective list of the top 25 centres entering the 25-26 NHL season.

My subjective list of the top 25 wingers entering the 25-26 NHL season.

My subjective list of the top 25 defencemen entering the 25-26 NHL season.

My subjective list of the top 25 goaltenders entering the 25-26 NHL season.

As the title says, lots to talk about and I try to keep it short, hence calling it a short shift!

My NFL prognostications are here!!! I KNOW that's why you love listening to Soups on HOCKEY!More so, my take on McDavid and why I am starting to believe that he is a real threat to walk.

My favourite show of the year! Although, after over 2 hours of attempting to keep my energy and enthusiasm up (not 1 break if you can believe it), I am spent! But I hope you enjoy this show as I look at every organization from 32 all the way up to number 1. And my opinion on this is all that matters so this is THE list to decide it!...

The team Canada camp invites, expansion talk, a long overdue re-cap of the 1st round of the draft, and a look at how boring this off-season has been for transactions.

Thoughts on Hulk Hogan's passing, the Oilers changes to the coaching staff, and the player that the Oilers HAVE TO go after, despite the backlash that would accompany that move if it were successful.

The two biggest stories in the hockey world yesterday got my full attention for this edition of the short shift!

Nearly 2 hours of me talking, hopefully you can gut through it! On this edition of the BS I take a look at the latest trades, what is happening with the new CBA, who should be doing what this off-season, as well as a big look into the draft tomorrow night, and of course I look at what the Oilers are up to.

2nd straight year of being so close, yet so far away. This time there is no doubt, the Panthers were the better team. Shockingly to me, but they were. The Oilers group still haven't figured out that they need to find a killer instinct, and they need to figure out how to truly dig in when things aren't going their way. This podcast is mostly about what I believe the Oilers need to do this off-season. Now more than ever they need a very shrewd summer and fix every leak possible if they want any shot at winning the Cup the next few seasons.

This is the best shot at this that the Edmonton Oilers are going to have for a few seasons, and they're blowing it. Can they "drag 'em back to 'Berta" one more time? Can they overcome a 3-2 series deficit for the 3rd time in 4 years?

Apparently I'm only doing these if the Oilers win? What a schmuck homer I am!! But they somehow did get out of Sunrise with a split and now it's a best of 3 for the Cup, once again with home ice advantage.

Oilers win 4-3 in OT, my thoughts. Riveting stuff I tells ya...

It's the playoffs, and in the playoffs you sometimes have to battle sickness as I did during this show. Not my best work, but you get my thoughts on the Stanley Cup Final rematch and I waste very little time getting into why I don't think this is going to be a very close series this time around.

Obviously I could not start this podcast without talking about the Leafs, and went a TAD overboard with it. 40 minutes or so worth of ranting about how sick of this situation I am. Plus I talk Mark Scheifele and the Jets, and preview the Conference finals matchups.

F**K VEGAS! Not too short of a shift, which has seemingly become the norm! But plenty of Oilers talk, a brief look at the rest of the playoffs, and a very brief look at my buddy Ken Holland to the Kings.

It's exactly what it says. Obviously hit on the 2 game 7's over the weekend, both of which were amazing!

The Hockey world is in a state of utter shock that an average team that only ever has results in the regular season continues to be the same team despite nominal/non needle moving changes. In this podcast, I get to the bottom of what possibly could be going on here, and there is no earthly way that fans and media would lack THAT much intelligence...

Wild 21 minutes after a boring as hell 39 minutes. Did we learn anything?

It's all in the title! Start it off with rebuild rankings while also taking a look at all the teams who missed the playoffs, even those who aren't rebuilding. Then we get into the power rankings, followed by my playoff picks as we gear up for the playoffs starting this weekend!

Ovy hits 895! I worry things aren't as they seem, but I hope they are. I just refuse to ignore the elephant in the room like everyone else is.

I have to apologize to Doug Armstrong. I took our vendetta (he doesn't know I exist) too far and need to give him his due. Plus, more on the Bouchard contract debate.

Soupy bear is back after a week off! Playoff format, game managing, Canadian teams in the playoffs and of course the Oilers all in this edition of the SOH Big Show!

Mostly on what happened at the deadline. Cozens/Norris trade, the Avs, the Stars, Rantanen, tons on the Oilers, and my freshly updated post trade deadline power rankings.

Just me reviewing what all 32 teams could and should do while giving extra time to my favourite shit show, the Edmonton Oilers.

This one is all about team Canada and the 4 Nations Face-off. Their loss to the US on Saturday, what needs to be done, does Canada need to do something about the way they're developing players, and whether or not they are done. They could be done today, they could be done Thursday, they could be champs by Thursday. Still a lot to be decided.

Thoughts on team Canada through 1 game and getting prepared to play the Americans on Saturday night.

I got cut off from recording so this is the last part to the latest edition of the BS.

Wow. These are going even worse than I envisioned. But here we go again, 7 picks...probably will want to do the opposite of what I suggest.

Biggest trade in the NHL since the Tkachuk/Huberdeau deal in the summer of 2022 happened tonight, my reaction to the deal.

I am so fed up with the horse shit that gets said about the Canucks when they've been showing us all that they are THIS team for the last 5 seasons. Plus...with the goaltending market looking very bare this trade deadline, I wonder out loud about a talented guy whom if the Oilers acquired him, would not be welcomed by the fan base with open arms...but might be better than you think and is just needing the right situation.

No clue why I'm still doing these, they are TERRIBLE!!! Maybe if you need to lose some money? Might help you at tax time?

Might be the best in the league at this moment and now they add Klingberg. But this isn't John Klingberg circa 2020.

These are not the goofy "who is playing well" power rankings that everyone does and they make absolutely no sense. These are power rankings done right and ranking the teams I like to win the Stanley Cup from 32nd to 1st.

Who goes first? Miller? Pettersson? Or the guy who nobody is mentioning right now...Rick Tocchet? As they get healthy, he's not getting any buy in. Right, because coaches like him have a very short shelf life.

We are a month away from the 4 Nations Face-Off and Doug Armstrong appears to have already severely botched the selections of Canada's goaltenders as 3 of the best in the league THIS SEASON are Canadian...and none of them are on the roster.
