Tomek & Steve give a short review of the Boston Marathon & anticipate the coming action in outdoor track & field this summer. Steve's Most Anticipated Cade Flatt - HS 800 runner. Want to see if he can run 1:46,45 to break the HS record. Only two HSers under 1:46 ever. Love his attitude. Focusing on World Juniors. Love his attitude & approach. He's into MMA & brings that warrior mindset to an event that may be the closest to a MMA fight in energy & ferocity. https://trackandfieldnews.com/high-schooler-cade-flatt-focusing-on-no-1-in-the-800/Tomek: I like Cade. Women's 800m at US Champs & World Champs - With Ajee WIlson's win at WIC, how will Athing Mu respond? How does the new guard (Mu, Raeven Rogers, Michaela Meyer, Allie WIlson) of American women in the 800m respond to the “older” guard (A.Wlson, Kate Grace, Chanelle Price). There are HS athletes who we are still seeing amazing things from recently (Roisin WIllis-17 yo Sr - 2:00.05), Sophia Gorriaran-16 yo Jr -2:00.58) with new HS records this indoor season. That's just the US. At WIC we missed seeing the two UK women who were finalist & one a medalist at the Games, I expect to see many epic battles at this distance. Watch the women's 800m OT Final 8 of the 9 finalists went under 2:00 & the 9th finished (Nia Atkins) fell down in the first 200m. Tomek: For sure, that would be interesting. Especially, this is going to be Athing's first full pro year: Less races, more pressure to perform when it counts etc. At least she is at the same training/life environment as last year. Elise Cranny - She's run 14:33i & 30:14 out. SHe has ferocity, hunger, mental toughness & is poised to be our most competitive 5K/10K athlete in multiple generations. I won't be surprised with a WC medal in Eugene & the women's world elite 5K/10K is not a place we expect to see an America woman from a tiny town in Colorado. Expect Jerry to have her ready & there is a seething anger boiling in the bellies of the Bowerman women. I expect Cranny to be all piss & vinegar at the WC Trial & WC in Eugene. Tomek: Also Karrisa Schwizer is back. And I doubt she wants to give away #1 5K-er to Elise ;-) But Elise showed good 1500m speed in her last race, which makes her hard to beat at 5k. Men's 1500/5K - With the Ingebretsen/Cheryuiot duels now at an epic level how will the rest of the world respond, esp the surging Aussie/UK threats. Add an invigorated Ethiopian contingent & a rested recovered Cheptegei at the 5K, we are in for a very exciting series of races where Jakob now has the full weight of the pressure on his shoulders. Additionally, we have Grant Fisher/Mo Ahmed in the 5K/10K where the can be expected to be in the mix. This will be very interesting. Tomek: 1500m I bet Jakob is only thinking about WR :-) But then again, lots of changes in Team Ingebritsen Tomek's Most Anticipated: US 1500m Can youngsters repeat 2021: Hocker, Hobbs, NeguseIs Centro done? Christian Nobel's new D2 3:36:00 record Donovan Brazier vs World Sifan Hassan — what are her goals in 2022? It's going to be epic either way Sprints Women: Abby Steiner (how fast she can go?)Sha'Carri Richardson (if she doesn't perform, is going to quit?) Brittany Brown — can she be new US star? Jamaica vs USMen:Marcel Jocob vs Americans How fast can Erriyon Knighton go 200m? Vs Noah LylesMatthew Boling — only him and Carl Lewis sub 10, sub 20, >8m LJ. What is his future?

Tonight's special guest is Andrea Kelly, skip of Team New Brunswick and bronze medalist at this year's Scotties Tournament of Hearts that was held in Thunder Bay Ontario. Andrea gives us a quick description of how curling works and how many players are on a team. In 2005 Andrea and her junior team won the provincials and went on to the nationals that were held in Fredericton, the support Andrea and her team were getting was incredible. Her team played in the finals against team Alberta and with the help of a wonderful shot and some extra sweeping, they ended up pulling it out and winning the gold medal, amazing. They ended up representing Canada that year at the World Juniors in Pinerolo, Italy and ended up winning the bronze that year. We talk about how the team has changed over the years and how life sometimes just happens. Having good dynamics and really enjoying each other's company helps in having a good quality team and we chat about that. This year was Andrea's 10th time representing New Brunswick at the Scotties and next year is going to be her 11th and we have all the confidence in the world in Andrea. Andrea tells us about how she stays motivated and the amazing things that come out of being involved in curling, it is her zone. We can tell by chatting with Andrea just how driven and determined she really is. Loves being busy and always trying new things and for the last few years, she has taken up cycling. We talk about the results at the Scotties for team Andrea and we discuss how it all went down. Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Despite a travel day to Carolina, the Montreal Canadiens remained very busy across to organization as they prepare to take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. The team announced that it had signed 2021 fifth round pick Joshua Roy to an entry-level contract on Wednesday morning, a well-deserved deal considering how strong a year Roy has had in the QMJHL. The Sherbrooke Phoenix forward has 92 points on the year, second in the league and has been on fire since being cut from the World Juniors squad. Scott and Laura have some details on his contract, and muse on the thought of him joining the Laval Rocket when his season is over. A radio interview with the Canadiens VP of Communications Chantal Machabée made the rounds on Twitter as she discussed how Cole Caufield has found a second wind after a disastrous start to his rookie season. With the revelation that Caufield was told to tone down who he is by the previous management group, is it any wonder why the Habs struggled to find long-term success? Scott and Laura take a look at how Cole got his swagger back, and what that means for the budding star going into the future. Finally, it was the first day of practice for Jordan Harris and the hosts want to know, could he debut sooner than we thought? They also break down his press conference where he discussed why he finally signed with the Canadiens, and the impact Kent Hughes had on his decision. While Marc Bergevin and his team did draft Harris, Hughes appears to have been the voice that sold the 21 year old defender on a plan for the future, and that's perfectly okay to admit. On this episode of The Cross-Check NHL Show, Russia's invasion of Ukraine has cast a pall over the world at large, with the hockey world also being impacted quite strongly. With Andrew Berkshire unavailable, Sarah Avampato of Locked On Kings joins Mary Clarke for today's show. First, the Los Angeles Kings have put themselves in an advantageous position in the Pacific Division to make some noise in the playoffs. Sarah breaks down just why the Kings have been so good this year, from Jonathan Quick in net to new fan-favorite Phillip Danault, and discusses how far Los Angeles can go. Next, Alex Ovechkin spoke to the media about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Though it was not the answer many were hoping for, hockey journalists were in the right to ask Ovechkin, given his relationship to Vladimir Putin. Not only that, the International Ice Hockey Federation has banned Russia and Belarus from events and has stripped the 2023 World Juniors from the country as well. Mary and Sarah wrap up the hockey talk with a plea for the Toronto Maple Leafs to get Jack Campbell help in net before transitioning to the pop culture roulette, where Sarah discusses her new-found love for Critical Role.
