The Sens split two games on the weekend. Cam Talbot wanted to face Minnesota but the Sens go with Forsberg. When did it becomes almost taboo to start goalies in back to back games? Filip Gustavsson is putting up great numbers in Minnesota and takes a bit of a run at the Sens from last season. Alex Formenton Signs in Switzerland. Why did the Swiss do what the Sens would not?
Alex is back after a week off of the podcast. Today, he has Jack Richardson making his return to the Last Word on Sens Podcast! Alex and Jack look over multiple Ottawa Senators issues, including the defence and lack of critical offence. Exploring why a 3-4-0 record just won't cut it as well as why it is frustrating they have been this poor. Both guys agree this team has shown potential for so much more, including on their latest road trip. However, at the end of the day the consistency just hasn't been there. They then switch their focus to how the Sens may handle the goalie situation with 12 games in their next 21 days. The workload will undoubtedly be split between the two of them. Finally, they talk about Alex Formenton and why he doesn't have a contract. As well as why it is important to remember the investigation that is ongoing.
Get the razors out. Movember is over. The Sens fall 3-1 to the Rangers. The Sens allow Alex Formenton's deadline to sign come and go. He will not play in the NHL this season and it's doubtful the Sens even picked up a phone to talk contract with him. We love Tim Stutzle but he needs to work on his emotions and his body language. What would the Sens have done if Jake Sanderson wasn't ready for top 4 minutes? Most defencemen his age are not.

Between Corey Perry, Ray Ferraro… and Darren Dreger, over 800 NHL goals are featured on the pod! 'Scorey' Perry had some fun with tying our very own Ray Ferraro on the all-time goal list. Perry talked his son's good luck phone call for teammate Steven Stamkos, and the celebration for Stamkos reaching 1000 points. He reflected on his time in Anaheim, close relationship with Ryan Getzlaf, and the 'blessing in disguise' of being bought out by the Ducks. Plus, his fierce competitiveness, and the desire to play into his forties. In Headlines the guys discuss Ottawa Senators RFA Alex Formenton's ineligible status, the ramifications of Formenton rejecting his qualifying offer, and the fallout of the ongoing investigation into Hockey Canada's 2018 World Junior team. Steven Stamkos crushes a well-deserved beer during his 1000th NHL point celebration, his ‘second-act' and remarkable career are celebrated. Continued hot-streaks from Jason Robertson and Mitch Marner are the talk of the league as two of the games young superstars continue to shred scoresheets. The Seattle Kraken extended their winning streak to 7-games, Ray credits GM Ron Francis for building the defence first. Jacob Markstrom's “I suck at hockey” comments are discussed as the Calgary Flames hope an awful November won't tank their season. Kris Abbott joins the show and tries to put a rough stretch in the rearview as he trails the NFL picks competition. The game of the week is the Miami Dolphins vs. San Francisco 49'ers, and the pod is going all-in on Tua this week. Kris sheds some light on in-game betting and the effect Canada's appearance at the World Cup has had in attracting Canadian bets. Ray and Dregs, part-time oddsmakers?? Will the Sens be able to convince Zub to re-sign? Shane Pinto cools off with just 1 assist in his last 8 games. Sens open camp without Formenton who doesn't have a contract. Is it because of hardball negotiations or has the Hockey Canada case affected things? Gretzky finally hits Jim with a text. More on the LIV Tour. And the Oilers get their uniform right.
Hockey Canada backs Scott Smith; Sens expect to sign Formenton soon; What drives guys like Sidney Crosby and Tom Brady, who've done it all, to keep playing into their sunset years? Gretzky did what???
It's another edition of "Dissecting Dorion" as we react to some of the commentary from Sens GM Pierre Dorion in his TSN 1200 radio interview. According to the Athletic, the Sens have the NHL's 5th Best Prospect Pipeline. When measuring out players 22 and under, it's tough to argue with Tkachuk, Stutzle, Sanderson, Pinto and Greig. That doesn't even include Norris or Formenton who just missed the age cutoff. Or Batherson and DeBrincat who are geezers at 24.
We visit with Drake Batherson who makes his return to the lineup. Artem Zub is sick. Brady Tkachuk's growth with puck decisions. Did Dylan Larkin give Tkachuk the cold shoulder after the ceremonial opening faceoff? When asked about Brendan Gallagher's negative comments about him, Tim Stutzle takes the high road. Alex Formenton has 1 point in his last 12 games. Is the second line the right spot at this stage? The Sens don't have to send St. Louis their 4th rounder yesterday. The original Senators won their last Stanley Cup 95 years ago today in a violent affair that saw the longest suspension NHL history. And RIP Gilbert Gottfried.

The Senators get a point in Washington, then win in Columbus. Jacob Bernard-Docker and Filip Gustavsson are Belleville-bound. We send a little love to the duo of Formenton-Stutzle, both lighting it up lately. Stutzle turns 20 and becomes the first two time winner of the game MVP bike helmet. Which unrestricted free agents will the Sens want to re-sign? Tierney, Sanford, Paul, Ennis, Holden, Josh Brown, or Forsberg? Andrei Kuzmenko fails to make Russia's main roster for the Olympic team. The Sens played their best game all season, yet still lost. Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan break down the 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. As a #GoalieFriendlyShow it's tough to say, but this loss falls on the shoulders of Marcus Hogberg, Three goals thats should've been stopped, McDavid and Draisaitl are held pointless, Murray shut the door in relief and Dadonov played his best game as a Senator. All in all, that should've been a win. With the Belleville Senators schedule announced we gave our own season preview for the team. Expectations on guys like Gustavsson, Formenton, Greig and Sokolov. NHL reportedly going with 56 games. Two sides remain focused on Dec 31 camp start for non-playoff teams. Jan 3rd camp start for the rest of the league. Jan 13th start to 2020-2021 regular season. Owners tried to circle back on the deal, asking the players to defer a bigger chunk of their salaries and then also dump more money into an escrow account. Realignment will feature an all Canadian division Now that the league's financial differences have been squared away, the fate of the new season probably rests mostly with public health officials. The big challenge for Ottawa will be getting everyone on the same page. Returning players will need a refresher course and there could be as many as 13 players who weren't full-time members of the club last season. Two-thirds of the league's owners must approve it and that's the one possible internal roadblock: owners with cash flow troubles, who aren't willing to weather this storm. Their arenas will be empty (or mostly empty) for every home game and now there's no financial help coming from the players' side. Sure, the NHL has an excellent TV deal, at least by its standards. But it's not the NFL, which has TV money to burn and doesn't need to actually sell tickets to turn a profit. On its own, the NHL's TV arrangement simply doesn't inject enough revenue for every owner to pay all their bills. So, there will absolutely be some teams who vote not to play this season at all. Are there more than ten teams like that? We'll find out soon enough. NHL realignment “Thomas Chabot and Brady Tkachuk both asked if they could be part of the Belleville, which no one knows about, and that just shows how much they're invested in the organization,” said Dorion in an interview with the Ottawa Sun Thursday. “We didn't think we should just parachute people in, either. Both guys wanted to play for Belleville at the end of the year. “It just tells what kind of younger, character people we have up here and what could have been with Belleville.” NHL.com's Top 5 Sens prospects. The NHL is investigating selling ads on players' helmets. Daniel Alfredsson wanted to coach Team Sweden? He obviously wants to stay involved in hockey. So where are the Senators?
