It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Mike Babcock press conference, Jason Dickinson's new deal, Connor Murphy re-signing, line combinations, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Mike Babcock press conference, and what everyone thought about our first look at the team's newest coach. While everyone was curious how today was going to go, what wasn't overly surprising was that Mike Babcock didn't really answer those questions with any honesty. Whether it was his refusing to admit faults in Columbus or tap-dancing some of the tougher questions, there are still plenty of unanswered questions that will only be solved in time. Shifting gears, the guys continued on with Babcock conversation by wondering what they think is most likely to come next now that the press conference is done. We got some free agents signed this week in Jason Dickinson and Connor Murphy, but with free agency kicking off in just over a week, we're about to find out if having Babcock behind the bench will impact the calibre of player the Oilers might attract. While it was great that Dickinson and Murphy believed in the team enough to extend, that doesn't necessarily mean the same will be true for players who Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk, the first edition of Reece's Game, which ended up being tennable, and a quick chat on what to expect from Canada's matchup against Switzerland at the World Cup. If Canada draws or wins, they will punch their ticket through to the round of 32. If they win, they will begin the round at home instead of having to travel abroad. Needless to say, the footy fever is alive and well at Nation HQ.

The NHL offseason kicked into overdrive as Brady Tkachuk was dealt to the Florida Panthers, creating a family reunion with brother Matthew while leaving the Senators armed with a haul of draft picks but little immediate help. The move reignited discussion about top American players leaving Canadian markets, a trend also reflected in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck situation as the Jets search for help down the middle and on defence. In Edmonton, the Oilers locked up trade-deadline acquisitions Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson to long-term deals while appearing poised to hire Mike Babcock, raising questions about whether a coach whose challenge in Toronto was getting the Leafs into the playoffs can now help a contender take the final step. Elsewhere, Jason Robertson’s contract talks in Dallas appear headed toward a crossroads, Buffalo continues to weigh its options involving Bowen Byram and Alex Tuch, and Toronto made a bold bet by acquiring and signing Darren Raddysh to a lengthy extension while trade speculation surrounding Matthew Knies continues despite questions about how moving a player of his calibre would actually improve the Leafs in their current situation.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Another day, another emergency podcast! This morning, the Oilers announced that they had re-signed Connor Murphy to a five-year extension that carries a $4.1 million AAV. Naturally, we needed to talk about it.
The microphones are live at a noisy, buzzing Boston Pizza Westgate! On this massive Monday edition of The Oil Stream, Dustin Nielson and YouTube Trev are officially on location, and an absolute offseason bomb dropped right before the cameras started rolling. Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers management team have officially locked up shutdown defenseman Connor Murphy to a brand-new five-year contract extension carrying a $4.1 million AAV. The boys waste absolutely zero time diving into the heavy fallout of this massive signature. On Today's Show: The Connor Murphy Verdict: The trade deadline acquisition is staying in northern Alberta for the long haul! But at 33 years old, is a 5-year term running through his age-38 season an absolute ticking time bomb? The boys break down the $4.1M cap hit, argue over the high-risk vs. high-reward, and slap their official letter grades on the contract. They also dive into the Jason Dickinson deal with the 30-year-old signing on the dotted line yesterday! The Darnell Nurse Domino Effect: Let's read between the lines. If the Oilers are spending $4.1M a year on a veteran defensive specialist like Murphy, what does this mean for the rest of the blue line? The boys break down the cap sheet and ask the million-dollar question: Does this signature mean Stan Bowman is officially pushing all his chips into trading away Darnell Nurse's heavy contract this summer? YouTube Trev's Elite Top 6 Rankings: Shifting gears to league-wide elite firepower, Trev opens up his whiteboard to officially rate the best top-six forward groups across the entire National Hockey League. Who holds the crown, and where do the top-heavy Oilers stack up against the league's best? Dusty's Ultimate UFA Shopping List: With free agency just around the corner on July 1st, Nielson counts down his personal top 5 unrestricted free agent targets he wants to see the Oilers chase to round out the depth chart. The Edmonton Oilers have made another significant offseason move, and Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are here to break it all down on today's episode of Oilersnation Everyday. The boys kick off the show by discussing the Oilers' new contract extension for Jason Dickinson, which will keep the veteran forward in Edmonton for another five seasons at a cap hit of $4 million per year. On the surface, the cap hit appears to be solid value for a player who has become an important part of the lineup, but is five years too much term for a player entering his age-33 season? Tyler and Liam will share their thoughts on the contract and hear what Oilers fans think about the deal. From there, it's time for another edition of The First Question, and there is no shortage of topics to cover. Reports continue to suggest that Mike Babcock could officially be named the next head coach of the Edmonton Oilers in the near future, while a contract extension for Connor Murphy is reportedly nearing the finish line as well. What would those moves mean for the Oilers heading into next season? The boys will break down the latest rumours and discuss how Edmonton's roster could be shaping up for another Stanley Cup run.Later in the show, the conversation shifts to one of the biggest stories from around the NHL as Brady Tkachuk has reportedly been traded to the Florida Panthers. What does the blockbuster move mean for Florida's quest to build another powerhouse, and are we entering a new era of NHL super teams? Tyler and Liam will discuss the fallout from the trade and what it means for the balance of power around the league. To wrap things up, the boys will hand out their favourite daily betting plays courtesy of bet365.

A massive offseason news episode covering both the NHL and NBA.Brady Tkachuk is heading to Florida, and I have some thoughts on this trade that might not be popular with Senators fans. I break down why I think Ottawa is actually better off long term, why I don't see Tkachuk as a true number one on a championship roster, and why this fits the Panthers perfectly. Then a run through of NHL offseason news and notes: the Oilers handing out contracts to Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson with very different grades from me, Bobby McMann signing in Seattle and what it says about the direction of the Kraken, a genuinely interesting trade between Buffalo and San Jose involving Michael Kesserling, and Colorado moving Ross Colton to Nashville in a deal that makes sense for both sides. On the NBA side, Oklahoma City trades Aaron Wiggins to Atlanta in a move that has almost nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with the tax bill. And the NBA Offseason Preview series continues with the Southeast Division, Washington with the number one pick, Miami's Giannis speculation, Charlotte building on a fun season, Orlando's fit issues, and Atlanta looking for that missing piece at the top of the roster. In This Episode:Intro (0:00)Brady Tkachuk traded (1:41)Oilers new Contracts (14:57)Bobby McMann Contract (20:06)Sabres/Sharks Trade (23:54)Predators/Avalanche Trade (27:23)Thunder/Hawks Trade (30:54)NBA Off-Season Preview: SE Division (33:50)Outro (44:45)

The Bowman Audit: A Disaster in the Making? | The McDavid Clock | The Oil Stream Is the championship window in Edmonton being slammed shut from the inside? Today on The Oil Stream, Dusty and Tommy are taking a flamethrower to the last two seasons as we conduct a full forensic audit of the Stan Bowman era. From the moment he took the keys to a Stanley Cup finalist, many argue the trajectory has been a straight line down—and the data is starting to back it up. On today's show: Peter Chiarelli 2.0?: We take a look down memory lane to analyze how we got here. Was the "patient" approach actually just a cover for a lack of vision? We compare Bowman's tenure to the darkest days of the Chiarelli era and ask if the Oilers are repeating the same catastrophic mistakes. The Hall of Shame (Worst Moves): We break down the moves that have set this franchise back, including: The Goaltending Gamble: Trading away Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak for Tristan Jarry—a move that has backfired spectacularly as Jarry struggled to an .858 save percentage while Skinner flourished in Pittsburgh. The Offer Sheet Fiasco: Revisiting the loss of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to St. Louis. Did Bowman's hesitation cost the Oilers two vital young pillars? The Deadline Depletion: Discussing the trades that sent away 2026 and 2027/28 first-round picks for rentals and aging veterans like Jason Dickinson and Connor Murphy. The "Concerned" Core: We revisit the chilling exit interviews from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. With the superstars calling the team "average" and expressing genuine concern, we ask if management has already lost the room. Offseason Crossroads: What happens now? With rumors of a rift between Bowman and Kris Knoblauch reaching a breaking point, we debate who survives the summer. Can the Oilers afford to let the same man who "messed up the trajectory" be the one to lead the free agent frenzy? On-Ice Needs: From the desperate search for a starting goalie (is Connor Ingram the answer?) to the impossible task of moving Darnell Nurse's contract, we map out the "must-haves" for a successful summer. When a team is hot, the last thing they want to do is stop playing. When the Olympic break arrived, the Tampa Bay Lightning were on a 19-1-1 heater. A query on Jake Guentzel's productivity follows.[27:22] - With two Stanley Cup rings, could this be Jon Cooper's best coaching job with the Lightning given the rash of injuries he's had to navigate through? Brian offers up what he sees as some of Cooper's best attributes in how he assesses teams and personalities.[33:51] - Brian goes deep into discussion on one of the most compelling personalities and talents in the NHL, Nikita Kucherov.[40:42] - Neil circles back to Cooper, never a Coach of the Year but certainly among great company - with a little trivia question dropped in.[43:42] - Some thoughts on the re-acquisition of Corey Perry by the Lightning.[48:17] - Despite the recent slide, the Lightning record remains strong. It's not hard to see. But when Matthew Knies says "we'll be back better and stronger than ever," does he realize how low that bar really is?[1:07:10] - On a two-game schedule Wednesday, is it possible the Canadiens Senators matchup is the most significant regular season game between the clubs since the Senators rejoined the NHL in 1992?[1:08:29] - Personnel notes.X: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #PatrickHoffman #NHL #SummerCoolers #AnaheimDucks # #BostonBruins #BuffaloSabres #CalgaryFlames #CarolinaHurricanes #ChicagoBlackhawks #ColoradoAvalanche #ColumbusBlueJackets #DallasStars #DetroitRedWings #EdmontonOilers #FloridaPanthers #LosAngelesKings #MinnesotaWild #MontrealCanadiens #NashvillePredators #NewJerseyDevils #NewYorkIslanders #NewYorkRangers #OttawaSenators #PhiladelphiaFlyers #PittsburghPenguins #StLouisBlues #SanJoseSharks #SeattleKraken #TampaBayLightning #TorontoMapleLeafs #UtahMammoth #VancouverCanucks #VegasGoldenKnights #WashingtonCapitals #WinnipegJets #BrianEngblom #MathewBarzal #BraydenSchenn #StuartSkinner #NoelAcciari #BryanRust #CharlieMcAvoy #ConorGarland #CarterVerhaeghe #MatthewTkachuk #JustinFaulk #DylanLarkin #ConnorMcDavid #LeonDraisaitl #DevonToews #NathanMacKinnon #ConnorIngram #MarkStone #StevenStamkos #RyanUfko #VictorHedman #RyanMcDonagh #BraydenPoint #NikitaKucherov #AndreiVasilevskiy #DeclanCarlile #MaxCrozier #ErikCernak #BrianLeetch #JeffBeukeboom #SidneyCrosby #EvgeniMalkin #JakeGuentzel #JonCooper #MichaelKesselring #DarrenRaddysh #WayneGretzky #BobJohnson #It'saGreatDayforHockey #JeffHalpern #DarrylSutter #DominicJames #GilbertPerreault #MarioLemieux #FrankMahovlich #GordieHowe #JackAdamsAward #ScottyBowman #AlArbour #LindyRuff #JaredBednar #CoreyPerry #JulienBriseBois #ConnorGeekie #PatMaroon #ScottSabourin #RasmusDahlin #ConnorBedard #NickFoligno #ConnorMurphy #JasonDickinson #BradyTkachuk #AustonMatthews #AlexOvechkin #MacklinCelebrini #MarkStone #MatthewKnies #WilliamNylander #JohnTavares #NickSuzuki #JakeSanderson #BrandonMontour #AleksanderBarkov #BradMarchand #RoopeHintz #GlenGulutzan #MikkoRantanen #MikaZibanejad
It's Tuesday afternoon, and there's a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set, which means the boys were back in the studio to recap the week that was. On today's episode, the guys discussed their first impressions of Edmonton's new friends, the latest Oilers goalie drama, previewed Tuesday's matchup against the Avalanche, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the latest round of Oilers goalie drama, after some quotes from Bob Stauffer circulated on social media suggesting there was some frustration on the ice at practice. While some folks really believe this on-ice back-and-forth 0n the ice is a major issue, while others think getting into it is healthy when things aren't going so well. Either way, the only way to stop the noise would be for the team to start winning.Changing gears, the guys discussed their first impressions of the Oilers' new friends now that they all have a couple of games under their belt. Starting with Connor Murphy's ability to defend, it's been refreshing to watch a guy take care of his own end first. They also spoke about Jason Dickinson's defensive abilities, and how he actually moves better than everyone expected. While the Oilers only won one of the two games played, it was nice to see the new guys finding ways to contribute. Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Baggedmilk's Trivia. A relatively quiet trade deadline was highlighted by the surprising move of longtime Capital John Carlson to Anaheim, where the Ducks leaned further into building an offensive identity. Calgary GM Craig Conroy provided late day drama by sending Nazem Kadri back to Colorado as he chases another Stanley Cup. The Flames also moved Mackenzie Weegar earlier in the week and now sit on a large stockpile of draft picks as they rebuild with a new arena waiting in the wings. Several notable names stayed put, including Robert Thomas in St. Louis and Colton Parayko who declined a trade to Buffalo. Nashville’s Ryan O’Reilly and Steven Stamkos, and goalies Sergei Bobrovsky and Jordan Binnington also stayed with their current teams despite the rumour mill. Toronto sold off pieces like Bobby McMann, Scott Laughton, and Nic Roy while keeping Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Montreal held firm despite exploring a bigger hockey deal as their young playoff window opens. Edmonton added Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson earlier in the week, but with Colorado loading up and Dallas and Minnesota looming, whoever survives the Pacific could still face a Western Conference buzzsaw.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I talked about the Oilers' trading for Connor Murphy, the NHL Trade deadline, defensive/goaltending woes, and much more.I kicked off this week's episode with a look at the NHL Trade Deadline and how the Oilers got started early by moving a 2nd round pick to Chicago in exchange for Connor Murphy. Known as a shutdown d-man, the expectation is that Murphy will come in and help stabilize the back end. And with the insanely tough schedule the Oilers have on deck, they'll need all the help they can get. Sticking with the trade deadline, I also looked at some of the other rumours and noise surrounding the team right now, and offered my take on how likely any of these moves are to happen. Will I be right? Never. Will I guess anyway? Absolutely. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a quick Righteous Sack Beating before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive again this week, and everyone's takes ranged from what you're nerdy about to Oilers talk and everything in between. The voicemail is the best way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better. Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!

The Oilers added big, right-shot defender Connor Murphy to shore up their defensive conscience, but when you factor in the Skinner/Kulak-for-Jarry swap and the draft capital spent, it’s fair to question whether they’ve meaningfully improved, especially with bottom-six centre still a need. On the broader D market, Tyler Myers’ no-trade indecision may be stalling movement, with names like Ristolainen, Faulk, and Parayko also in play. The Rangers’ Braden Schneider and the Blues’ Robert Thomas are drawing interest but would command massive returns, while Jordan Binnington chatter is quietly building after his Olympic performance boost. Meanwhile, Craig Berube seemed to question his team’s heart and hockey IQ and the Kings fired Jim Hiller with DJ Smith stepping in amid playoff pressure. Will teams like Boston and Pittsburgh, armed with significant draft capital, emerge as surprising deadline players? The countdown is on!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
