The 2025-26 season represented one where the Philadelphia Flyers took a clear step forward, A combination of experience, youth, some stability in goal and a hot streak towards the end of the regular season to make a surprising return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, stunning the cross-state rival Penguins before bowing out to Carolina.As the preparation for 2026-27 begins, the new challenge is to continue progress in an Eastern Conference in which returning to the post-season will not be a guarantee. The power play remains a mess, there's the relationship between head coach Rick Tocchet and mercurial forward Matvei Michkov and some RFA work to be done by the leadership team of Keith Jones and Danny Briere.X: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #NHL #SpringCleaning #PhiladelphiaFlyers #PittsburghPenguins #CarolinaHurricanes #WashingtonCapitals #NewJerseyDevils #FloridaPanthers #AnaheimDucks #ColoradoAvalanche #RickTocchet #MatveiMichkov #KeithJones #DannyBriere #OwenTippett #TysonFoerster #NoahCates #JamieDrysdale #CamYork #SeanCouturier #TravisKonecny #TravisSamheim #TrevorZegras #ChristianDvorak #DanVladar #ClaudeGiroux #SidenyCrosby #EvegeniMalkin #KrisLetang #ErikKarlsson #SamErsson #IvanFedotov #RasmusRistolainen #PorterMartone #MatveiMichkov #JohnTortorella #DenverBarkey #AlexBump #NikitaGrebenkin #OliverBonk #JettLuchanko #SeanWalker #RyanJohansen #CarlGrundstrom #RodrigoAbols #GlenGlendening #NoahJuulsen #EmilAndrae
On Talkin' Hockey, we're all about the long weekends, and so of course we're here today, albeit in pre-recorded form! We've talked about both the opponents that they faced in the finals during their back to back Cup runs, so today we're talkin' Penguins! The 1991-92 squad had a bit of a roller coaster season before settling in to take Lord Stanley for the second straight year. Their coach, the legendary "Badger" Bob Johnson had to step down in the off-season when he was diagnosed with cancer, and sadly he passed away in November of 1991. The team was sold, also in November, to a couple of fellas from the Minnesota North Stars ownership group that they had vanquished the year before - a guess if you can't beat 'em, you buy 'em! On the ice, it was the usual cast of characters - Lemieux, Stevens, Francis, Jagr, and Mullen, plus steady Tom Barrasso between the pipes and a blue line featuring Paul Coffey and newcomer Larry Murphy. Ol' Paul got shipped out in February shakeup alongside Mark Recchi that steadied the squad, adding toughness with Rick Tocchet and Kjell Samuelsson coming in. They finished strong and blew through the playoffs, sweeping the Blackhawks in the finals.Speaking of playoffs, we'll catch you up on the current goings on as 3 of our 4 semi-finalists are set, with a big game 7 between Montreal and Buffalo set to go as we exit the airwaves today. Colorado and Vegas carry on the proud Jagr tradition this year, as both Brett Kulak and Rasmus Andersson played with the mulleted magician meaning that this is year marks the 46th (!!!) straight that the finals will feature a former teammate of ol' #68.Finally, co-host Tom slips into Mats Sundin's silky Swedish slacks and we break down the myriad of questions facing the Maple Leafs this off season.

The Montreal Canadiens responded after an early Buffalo goal in Game 3, dominating much of the night with their speed and depth as Alex Newhook scored twice and the Habs’ centres continued to outplay the Sabres down the middle. Buffalo struggled defensively, Alex Lyon was repeatedly left exposed, and tensions boiled over following a collision between Beck Malenstyn and goalie Jakob Dobes that sparked a discussion about whether post-whistle penalties should carry over into the next playoff game. Meanwhile, Carolina completed a sweep of Philadelphia with an OT win in Game 4, continuing a dominant postseason run built on elite team defence, strong health and a resurgence from Taylor Hall, though a lengthy layoff before Round 3 could become a concern. Despite the sweep, the Flyers took a major step forward this season under Rick Tocchet, though more roster additions are still needed before relying heavily on young prospects like Porter Martone and Alex Bump. Out West, Anaheim evened its series with Vegas at 2-2 after a 4-3 win powered by Cutter Gauthier’s three assists, continuing an impressive playoff showing from a young Ducks team that is quickly learning it can compete and win at this level. Mitch Marner’s three-point night gave him the playoff scoring lead and his overall play has prompted praise from John Tortorella regarding lingering Toronto narratives around his game. The Wild also pushed back against Colorado with a huge Game 3 win to keep their series alive, setting up a critical Game 4 as Colorado considers whether to stick with Scott Wedgewood or turn to Mackenzie Blackwood after an uneven outing.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
