The Rangers dealt Artemi Panarin to LA for former first-round pick Liam Greentree and a conditional third, a return shaped largely by his trade protection, which limited the market. The Rangers retained 50% of his salary for this season and extended him for two years at $11M AAV; Ray understands the move for LA’s scoring and power-play needs but questions why New York rushed the trade with time still available. Penn State star and projected 2026 top pick Gavin McKenna is facing serious assault charges, with few details known and no speculation for now. In Edmonton, a 4–3 loss to Calgary made it three straight defeats, leading Leon Draisaitl to publicly criticize the team — including himself — with Ray agreeing this looks like the weakest Oilers group of the past three years, plagued by goaltending uncertainty and a lack of depth beyond McDavid and Draisaitl. Looking at the playoff race, Ray doubts Toronto can find sustained consistency, and in the West expects one of Anaheim or Seattle to drop out, with LA the most likely Pacific team to sneak in ahead of Nashville and San Jose. Sunday’s Tampa Bay vs Boston outdoor game delivered a true spectacle — great hockey weather, a goalie fight, and a wild Lightning comeback from four goals down — though not without controversy, as Boston bristled at the penalty disparity and power plays that swung momentum, even if, as Ray notes, the Bruins are among the league’s most-penalized teams. The game also raised Olympic questions with Anthony Cirelli injured and Brayden Point’s status looming, highlighting the rigidity of Olympic rosters where changes can’t be made once the tournament begins, prompting speculation about potential standby players flying to Italy, while Sam Bennett is banged up but expected to be fine and Zach Hyman’s name creeps into the conversation given his 50-goal-pace production and versatility. Meanwhile, Connor McDavid gave fans a rare, heartfelt glimpse into his mindset with his Players’ Tribune piece “Dear Canada,” a raw expression of his love for the game and a clear signal — especially to Oilers fans — of his desire to win a Stanley Cup in Edmonton. Barry Trotz announced he’ll step down as Nashville Predators GM at season’s end for family reasons, with the organization hoping to have a new GM in place by the draft, marking the first time in franchise history that neither Trotz nor David Poile will be involved. Plus, Ryan Rishaug checks in from Milano Cortina to talk facilities and schedule in advance of the Olympic Hockey tournaments.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 338 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features Stuart Skinner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who sat down with Kevin Woodley for another “Car-Cast” and shared some great insights for InGoal listeners. In the feature interview appropriately presented by NHL Sense Arena, Skinner talks about a range of topics surrounding his move to Pittsburgh, with lessons for goalies of all ages on maintaining a positive growth mindset, working on his game with a new goalie coach, and the privilege of practising every day with legends of the game — from McDavid and Draisaitl in Edmonton to now with the Penguins and Crosby, Malkin, and more.In the Parent Segment, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, we talk about helping young goalies learn to deal with vague criticism from coaches, including comments about work ethic. We also review this week's Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, which features Casey DeSmith discussing his read on defending a one-timer and the decision to slide into the post or outside it.And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Vaughn iON pants, featuring a unique new detail we think all goalies will want to consider — an extra layer of protection where it counts most.

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I talked about Connor McDavid' heater, Tristan Jarry's return, Jake Walman, and much more.I kicked off this week's episode with a look at the heaters that are happening throughout the Oilers' lineup right now, and while Connor McDavid is understandably getting all of the attention, there are a couple of other guys who are nearly as hot as the captain. From there, I offered the latest updates on Trent Frederic and Andrew Mangiapane after both guys returned to the lineup this past week, following some well-deserved time in the press box. Finally, I tried to figure out what to expect from Edmonton's goaltending situation after Tristan Jarry returned to the crease Tuesday night in Nashville. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about windrows, then closed out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week, and everyone's takes were all over the map and very fun for me to listen to. The voicemail is the best way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!

After the break we quickly touched on MMMMMM That's Good presented by The Italian Centre Shop. What's good today is we're finally getting more sunlight as yesterday was the Winter Solstice, Connor Ingram's good story and McDavid leading the league in NHL scoring again. Buffalo's playoff optimism gets questioned, and trade rumors swirl around Phillip Danault. Rupper thinks a playoff push would be detrimental in Buffalo, while Gregor believes they have some good pieces and are better than their record suggests. Can Jarmo Kekäläinen change the culture in Buffalo and get the Sabres back into the playoffs soon?Sitting third in points behind Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, has Macklin Celebrini punched his ticket to Team Canada? Can the second-year forward beat out the likes of McDavid and MacKinnon for the award?John Klingberg is enjoying a career resurgence with the Sharks this season. His mobility looks closer to his prime years, and his offensive game is starting to shine alongside San Jose's young core. A physical and mental reset has allowed Klingberg to flash the star form he once showed in Dallas.Connor McDavid's hot streak is in full steam ahead. Once again, he's proving he's arguably the best player in the world.Rupper recounts his time in Pittsburgh, where Sidney Crosby was constantly striving to improve—even after winning the Stanley Cup. Taking more faceoffs, improving defensively, shooting more, and doing anything possible to become a more complete, big-moment player.Nathan MacKinnon continues his shooting barrage as he leads the league in shots on goal. McDavid has seen an uptick in shooting during his hot streak, and Celebrini is climbing the list as well. The guys examine some of the league's top volume shooters and a few surprise leaders in shooting percentage, including one of the biggest up-and-comers in the scoring race, Morgan Geekie.Edmonton's offense is starting to roll as they head into the Christmas break, with no more road games against Eastern Conference teams remaining. With Tristan Jarry injured, is there renewed concern in the Oilers' crease, and what will they do if he's out long-term?Pat joins the show for Fill in the Blank:The percent chance Alex Tuch stays in Buffalo is ___The Minnesota Wild are missing ___ to truly become a top contenderThe team to win the regular season in the East will be ___Olympic roster predictions are in from Rupper and Gregor, starting with Rupp's Team USA selections. Despite his season in Anaheim, Cutter Gauthier was never in consideration for Rupp. There are no changes on defense, and while Seth Jones was strongly considered, Rupp couldn't find a spot for him. With Connor Bedard injured, Gregor slots Brandon Hagel in as his replacement. Would Bo Horvat be on the roster if he weren't injured? Evan Bouchard's improved defensive play earns him a spot, while Thomas Harley drops off as he continues to struggle after returning from injury in Dallas. Jordan Binnington remains on Gregor's roster based on merit and his Four Nations performance—but could his poor NHL play push him off the team by February?Want to hear more from Jason and the entire DFO team? Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful. Today Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal digs into the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 win over the Red Wings of Buffalo Game Overview: The Oilers celebrated a satisfying victory, with the team showcasing a solid performance against the Detroit Red Wings. David and Kurt noted that the game felt secure once the Oilers netted their third goal, with the team effectively shutting down any potential threats from their opponents. The hosts emphasized the importance of managing fatigue, especially during back-to-back games, which can significantly affect player performance. Zach Hyman's Comeback: One of the standout performances in the game came from Zach Hyman, who scored a hat trick. Kurt pointed out that Hyman's recent struggles stemmed from a wrist injury sustained during the playoffs last year, which raised concerns about his ability to return to form. However, his performance in this game suggested that he might be regaining his previous prowess. David recalled a moment from a prior game where Hyman demonstrated improved wrist strength, hinting that he could be back to his old self. Hyman's contributions are crucial for the Oilers, especially as the team looks to enhance its scoring depth. The Importance of Team Dynamics: David and Kurt highlighted the synergy between Hyman, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl, noting how their on-ice chemistry resulted in beautiful plays. One example discussed was Hyman's first goal, which was set up by a remarkable pass from McDavid, demonstrating the patience and vision that elite players possess. This discussion underscored the significance of teamwork and communication in achieving success on the ice. Evan Bouchard's Performance: The podcast also touched on Evan Bouchard's contributions and the criticisms he faces regarding his defensive skills. While both hosts acknowledged his offensive talent, they agreed that Bouchard needs to improve his defensive play, particularly during crucial moments. David recounted a story from Gary Galley about Ray Bourque, emphasizing that great players often take risks to make exceptional plays, which can lead to turnovers. This analogy served to frame the discussion about Bouchard, suggesting that while he may have defensive lapses, his offensive capabilities are invaluable. Conclusion: The Oilers' recent victory showcased not only individual brilliance but also the importance of teamwork and resilience. Zach Hyman's return to form is a promising sign for the team, as is the continued excellence of McDavid and Draisaitl. Additionally, while Bouchard's defensive play may need refinement, his offensive contributions are vital for the team's success. As the season progresses, monitoring these players' performances will be crucial for the Oilers' aspirations.

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' demolition of the Seattle Kraken, line combos, some injury updates, line combos, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about NHL players participating in the Olympics after a cryptic message from Bill Daly basically opened the door for missing the tournament unless Italy gets its rink done. Whether you're hearing about the rink being too small or that it wasn't even ready in the first place, there's some smoke around the idea that the NHL doesn't want its players to participate and is using this as an out. Shifting gears, the guys looked at last night's 9-4 win over the Seattle Kraken and how badly everyone needed that win. From the players to the fans, having the boys crank out their first massive win of the year gave everyone a chance to exhale a little bit. From the big dogs (McDavid, Draisaitl, Nuge, and Hyman) cashing in 12 points to the way Matt Savoie could have had a hat trick himself, there were plenty of of positives to take away from one of the most fun games of the season. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week that was. With the 2025-26 season well underway, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode moving through a range of topics, some related to the Oilers and others not, but that's what happens when the team is playing as poorly as they have been.Checkout the brand new TNN YoutTbe channel!drop a link in the podcast episode: https://www.youtube.com/@The_Nation_Network?sub_confirmation=1Subscribe to the Brand New The Sauce With Ryder & Lisa YouTube Channel!https://youtube.com/@thesaucewithryderandlisa?si=hojCkE4S1rFoSnbvSHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!Powered by @bet365.
