Edge of the Web - An SEO Podcast for Today's Digital Marketer
Human vs. Machine Mayhem Marketing maven Mark Schaefer returns to EDGE of the Web, diving headfirst into the audacious art of brand disruption in a world brimming with AI-generated noise. We unpack Schaefer's latest book, "Audacious: How Humans Win in an AI Marketing World" offering wild tales of brands that drop the cookie-cutter for shock, spectacle, and seriously weird TikToks (lookin' at you, Nutter Butter). From QR codes in the sky luring diners out of restaurants, to the marketing taboo-breakers of Liquid Death and ELF Cosmetics, we explore how marketers can stir emotion, break convention—without getting canceled—and measure the impact when you throw the box away altogether. Pro tip? If your marketing feels safe, it's probably boring, and AI will eat your lunch. Mark serves up a snappy checklist for dodging legal snooze-fests and making campaigns people actually remember—because sometimes a little weird goes a long way. Key Segments: [00:02:22] The Book! Join Sandra Champlain on We Don't Die Radio for a truly remarkable conversation with Kyra Schaefer – a channeler, healer, and the inspirational founder of As You Wish Publishing. Kyra shares her extraordinary life story, marked by multiple life-threatening situations that began as early as age three, and how these profound encounters stripped away any fear of death, replacing it with a deep knowing of the afterlife and a commitment to service. In this episode, Kyra recounts: * Her early childhood experience with loss (father murdered at age 3) and how she learned to communicate with him. * A childhood concussion at age 7 that led her to experience a conscious awareness in a warm, peaceful darkness she describes as "the space between" or "life between lives." * Her journey through self-medication to cope with anxiety and trauma, and the turning point that led her to change. * A harrowing near-fatal assault by her ex-fiancé, where, in a moment of surrender, she made a powerful bargain with God: "You either let him kill me now, or I'll spend my life in service." This led to an immediate spiritual awakening, a profound sense of divine presence, and an end to her physical pain. * Her path to healing and spiritual development, including learning Reiki, developing her channeling and mediumship abilities, and becoming a hypnotherapist. * A recent, awe-inspiring NDE-like vision during a severe bout of COVID while quarantined in a hotel. She describes an incredible light show of sacred geometry, feeling herself moving through a doorway, and touching the infinite in a way that left her with an unshakeable peace about death and the afterlife. * How her experiences, particularly the loss of her dear friend Vicki, inspired her to found As You Wish Publishing, a company dedicated to helping others share their stories and voices, having now guided over 75 books to bestseller status, including "Synchronicity." * Her profound understanding that loved ones who have passed are in "absolute grace," and her message of hope for those grieving. Kyra Schaefer's journey is a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the transformative power of surrender, and the profound peace and purpose that can arise from life's most challenging experiences. Discover how a life lived in close companionship with death can lead to an extraordinary understanding of life itself. A globally respected marketing strategist, bestselling author, and deep observer of technological change, Schaefer brings sharp clarity to a pressing leadership question: what does it take to stay relevant when artificial intelligence makes intelligence itself abundant?Rather than offering a simplistic take on AI, Schaefer challenges leaders to confront a more nuanced truth: AI doesn't just change how we work—it redefines where we create value. In a world where intelligence is cheap and accessible to everyone, he argues, leaders must shift their organizations from knowledge accumulation to human differentiation. The conversation dives into what “out-humaning” AI actually looks like. From designing moments of awe to fostering fearless creativity, Schaefer offers examples and frameworks that push beyond theory. He connects storytelling, community-building, and emotional resonance not just as marketing strategies—but as core leadership capabilities that machines can't replicate. This episode is a must-listen for CEOs, board members, and senior executives grappling with the implications of AI. Episode 145 Doe ID 'Singer Island Jane Doe' Susan Poole On June 16, 1974, a man and his two sons were searching for driftwood on Singer Island in the Burnt Bridge area of North Palm Beach, Florida when they found human remains. Investigators descended on the area and found more of the skeletonized remains along with tattered and weathered pieces of clothing. There was no ID with the body, and police would face an uphill battle identifying the remains which were thought to be those of a young woman or teenage girl between the ages of 14 and 25. It was believed that the girl had stood between 4ft11 and 5ft'2 tall, and that she weighed between 83 and 103 pounds. Police found evidence that she had been tied to a tree, leading them to believe that she was likely the victim of a homicide. With not much to go on, the case of the girl that would become known as 'Singer Island Jane Doe' went cold. Although police didn't know who their victim was, they thought they knew who killed her; a vicious, and sadistic serial killer and predator named Gerard John Schaefer. Schaefer worked as a sheriff's deputy for the Marin County, FL sheriff's department, and he had murdered and attacked several women and young girls in the area where Singer Island Jane Doe had been found. If Schaefer did indeed kill Singer Island Jane Doe, he took his secrets to the grave after he was murdered by a fellow inmate whil in prison. In 2022, after the Palm Beach County sheriff's office teamed up with Othram Labs to perform genealogy on the DNA from Singer Island Jane Doe, they finally learned who she was; Susan Gale Poole. She had been reported missing from her Brower County trailer park in December, 1972 when she was 15 years old. Police are confident that she's the victim of Gerard John Schaefer, and in fact, he was responsible for the murder of another girl that lived in the same trailer park as Susan. Although it will likely never be established how she crossed paths with her killer, her family is relieved to have her remains so that they could give her a proper farewell. 'Singer Island Jane Doe' has her name back now; it's Susan Poole, and this is her story. This episode is sponsored by Masterclass.
