Today on the DFO Rundown, Jason Gregor was joined by Jeff Marek from The Sheet to recap everything we've seen over the last 72 hours in the NHL.There were some big contracts handed out as the free agency window opened and usually, this is the time of the year where big mistakes are made. The guys started today's podcast by talking about one team that they think really improved themselves this summer: the Montreal Canadiens. Are they good enough to be a team that wins playoff rounds next year? They discussed it.From there, they talked about the moves that the Anaheim Ducks made so far this summer. They brought in some veterans in Chris Krieder and Mikael Granlund and while they moved on from Trevor Zegras, it's easy to see a path to the Ducks improving. They then talked about the Mitch Marner saga and him officially becoming a member of the Vegas Golden Knights. Should Vegas be considered the favourites in the West? They also touched on the way the Maple Leafs handled the situation and the Florida Panthers finding a way to keep all their free agents around.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked about the Ken Holland's moves with the Kings, the bottom-five teams in the league and the remaining free agents on the board. They wrapped up the show by talking about James Reimer and some of the names still out on the market, the impact some of the new Head Coaches around the league could have and the state of the Dallas Stars after the hiring of Glen Gulutzan.1:10 - How much better are the Habs?8:30 - Are the Ducks good enough?15:40 - Marner & the Golden Knights23:00 - The Leafs rebound27:30 - Bennett & the Panthers33:10 - Buy or Sell50:00 - The new coaches52:00 - Stars hire GulutzanWant to hear more from Jason and the entire DFO team? Jamie McLennan was the first guest on today's show… He first touched on Bob MacKenzie's retirement announcement. It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day. After the update, it was time for Free Advice for Damon Bunting. Plenty of great advice from the fellas today. To finish off hour two, Eric Macramalla stopped by to talk all things fries, Big Mac sauce, Ken Holland and finished with his thoughts on what Florida was able to do…

Ken Holland spoke to the media on June 25th. The new General Manager spoke about free agency, the draft and more.
The Florida Panthers dominate the Edmonton Oilers and win their second straight Stanley Cup. Connor McDavid equivocates about his future in Edmonton. Ken Holland overcompensates for his team's lack of physicality by allegedly offering Trent Frederic a ridiculous extension. Jonathan Toews relocates to his hometown Winnipeg Jets. Gary Bettman eliminates the idea that state tax laws are an issue for the salary cap. The Blues illustrate their franchise with a new logo and jersey re-design on Monday. 18-Year-Old players anticipate Friday's draft. And Bowen Byram and Noah Dobson are set to evacuate their current teams, making them appetizing trade targets for the Blues.
The Kings Realm crew returns to dissect the Kings' recent playoff elimination and the hiring of Ken Holland as the new General Manager. The episode dives into the fallout from the playoffs, comparing the Kings' exit to the Golden Knights' "shellacking," and then veers into a deep dive on the financial disparities between NHL markets. Also we have the return of the Triple Crown Line!

We had our first team advance to the Conference Final as the Edmonton Oilers eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights in five games. That's where Jason and Frank started today on a new episode of The DFO Rundown. It's the third Western Conference Final in four years for Connor McDavid and company, and this one seems like the most unexpected of the bunch. It was another pivotal moment in the history of this Leafs core and Frank explained why this loss tells us a lot about Toronto's stars. They then pivoted and talked about the two new coaching hires in the NHL as the Philadelphia Flyers landed their guy in Rick Tocchet and the Vancouver Canucks filled their vacancy and elevated Adam Foote to the Head Coaching position. Gregor asked the question of which new coach is in a better position going forward.Frank also gave an update on some other coaching vacancies and the candidates to fill them.Tyler then popped in with a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about Frank's Top 50 free agent list, Ken Holland's shopping list in Los Angeles and the other two series going on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. To wrap, they talked a little bit more about Frank's list and gave their takes on the two elimination games that are going on tonight with the Canes having the Caps on the ropes and the Jets fighting for their lives against the Stars.1:40 - Oilers eliminate the Golden Knights12:10 - Panthers push Leafs to the brink26:25 - Foote takes over in Vancouver & Flyers land Tocchet34:00 - Other coaching vacancies35:40 - Buy or Sell45:40 - Top 50 Free AgentsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? They have a 3 games to 1 advantage after a dominant shutout win on Monday, with Stu Skinner stepping up and the Oilers continuing their trend of peaking in games 4-7 of playoff series. Florida vs. Toronto might look like a coin flip on paper, but Game 5 feels like a must-win for the Leafs. Marner and Matthews need to step up offensively, and Craig Berube might consider a Morgan Rielly return to the PP unit. Ken Holland is set to become GM of the LA Kings, opting to stay involved and in the West. Rick Tocchet is a hot coaching name, Seattle and Boston have interest, but Philly seems the most likely fit. Meanwhile, Vancouver is zeroing in on their next coach, with Manny Malhotra, Adam Foote, and Washington assistant Mitch Love in the mix.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this episode of Canucks Brunch, Josh and Lina are joined by NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman to react to the Canucks' decision to name Adam Foote head coach—an expected move, but one that came sooner than anticipated. They dig into what Foote's promotion means for the team, including his shift from assistant to head coach and how it may impact player development, especially for prospects like Tom Willander. With Willander now signed, the Canucks' surplus on defense opens the door for trades, possibly involving Hronek or the 15th overall pick to upgrade their top-six forward group. The offseason checklist is far from over as Vancouver looks to make bold moves in free agency and the draft. They also touch on Rick Tocchet's new role in Philadelphia, Ken Holland's hiring in L.A., and why Elias Pettersson's performance next season remains the key to the team's future. The Edmonton Oilers were one win from an historic comeback in the Stanley Cup Final last spring. While favored by many to take that last step in 2025, the best laid plans have not gone according to plan as injuries, spotty defensive play and offensive shortcomings have hurt the club. TV Play-by-play voice of the Oilers Jack Michaels joins Vic and Neil to break it down. Also, the playoff races have taken several turns during the week, "The Big Rig" announces his plans to retire and some history in the PWHL during Women's History Month.IN THIS EPISODE:[01:49] - In "Three Things You Need to Pay Attention to," the Washington Capitals balance is a primary reason they are the only club to have clinched a playoff berth. Jack has a very interesting response as to whether the Skinner/Pickard tandem is enough.[30:10] - Michaels share the differences in the Oilers between current GM Stan Bowman and his predecessor, Ken Holland.[36:50] - Vic believes all of the Western powers have improved. Jack says otherwise.[48:33] - Before leaving, Jack shares a pointant story of being in a hallway in the arena not long after the Oilers had dropped Game 7 of the Final.[53:05] - The Playoff Races[1:01:42] - The NHL and NHLPA set to begin talks on a new CBA next month, almost a year-and-a-half before the current one expires.[1:04:12] - Player news.[1:08:01] - The Human Side of the Story looks at Jack Michaels journey from a small Western PA town to the Edmonton, AlbertaX: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #ShortShifts #NYCentric #NeilSmith #VicMorren #NHL #AnaheimDucks # #BostonBruins #BuffaloSabres #CalgaryFlames #CarolinaHurricanes #ChicagoBlackhawks #ColoradoAvalanche #ColumbusBlueJackets #DallasStars #DetroitRedWings #EdmontonOilers #FloridaPanthers #LosAngelesKings #MinnesotaWild #MontrealCanadiens #NashvillePredators #NewJerseyDevils #NewYorkIslanders #NewYorkRangers #OttawaSenators #PhiladelphiaFlyers #PittsburghPenguins #StLouisBlues #SanJoseSharks #SeattleKraken #TampaBayLightning #TorontoMapleLeafs #UtahHockeyClub #VancouverCanucks #VegasGoldenKnights #WashingtonCapitals #WinnipegJets #JackMichaels #ColoradoGoldKings #AlaskaAces #AlexOvechkin #AliakseiProtas #TomWilson #DylanStrome #JakobChychrun #JohnCarlson #KyleMacLean #NazemKadri #QuintonByfield #JimHiller #RobBlake #DrewDoughty #LouieDeBrusk #IthacaCollege #Brendan Burke #JoshGetzoff #NickNickson #ConnorMcDavid #LeonDraisaitl #KrisKnoblach #MattiasEkholm #DarnellNurse #ViktorArvidsson #DylanHolloway #PhilipBroberg #CoreyPerry #AdamGaudette #FilipForsberg #ZachHyman #EvanBouchard #RyanNugent-Hopkins #JeffSkinner #AdamHenrique #BrettKulak #JakeWalman #TroyStetcher #SergeiFedorov #StuartSkinner #CalvinPickard #AndreiVasilevskiy #ConnorHellebuyck #JakeOettinger #SergeiBobrovski #HenrikLundqvist #Marc-AndreFleury #RobertLuongo #AnttiNiemi #DarcyKuemper #PavelFrancouz #AdinHill #JordanBinnington #KenHolland #StanBowman #ScottyBowman #GenePrincipe #BobStauffer #GlenGulutzan #NathanMacKinnon #LukeSchenn #TrentFrederic #BrandonTanev #MikkoRantanen #BrockNelson #CharlieCoyle #MartinNecas #AnzeKopitar #TrippTracy #KennyAlbert #ConnSmytheTrophy #ReggieLeach #SamRosen #GaryBettman #MartyWalsh #NHLLockout #PatMaroon #BigRig...
The boys are in Montreal for the 4 Nations Face-Off, which meant an opportunity to talk about what it's like to be in the city for the tournament and to recap the Canada vs. Sweden game. Jay, Tyler, and Baggedmilk are in Montreal for the 4 Nations Face-Off and they kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by recapping their experience from the Canada vs. Sweden game on Wednesday night. Starting with a recap of the Bell Centre, the guys gave their take on what was like to watch a game in that arena.Getting to the game itself, the guys spoke about how the excitement from the evening really ramping up the overall vibes of the tournament. For anyone who was on the fence about the tourney, seeing the players give it their all really pulled the fans into the game. By the time the game went to overtime, the arena was brimming with excitement, and it was impossible not to get wrapped up in the moment. Changing gears, Jay then told the story of sitting next to Ken Holland on the plane to Montreal, and how they ended up becoming fast friends as the flight progressed. As you'll hear, Jay's conversation with the former-Oilers GM was all over the map, and it was fascinating how forthcoming the future Hall of Famer was with the details. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a random collection of topics, including some cafeteria talk from the Bell Centre, the price of beers, and why Quebec uses commas in their numbers instead of the usual period. As our friend Woz would say, the culture shock was real.
