State of a Mother is where empowered women unite. It’s a place to talk about how to deal with this newfound state as “Mom”. That state where you are simultaneously the head of the family, and completely at the whim of the family. It’s for women who want to unload the mental weight, reclaim how they think, and become clear and decisive in their actions in order to live an intentional life. In this podcast we will go deep on the power of your mind, and how it impacts everything from body image to keeping your life organized. Each episode aims to help you clean up old thoughts and beliefs and instill new strategies to level up your life and create what you most want.

Today I am talking about how to make powerful decisions and the importance of doing so.  I am also letting you know that I am taking a small podcast hiatus during July + August as a way to regroup and recharge... this was a powerful decision that I made, and even though my brain offered a lot of reasons why this was a very scary and important decision, making it consciously and powerfully has been such a great thing for me.  Please stay subscribed to State of a Mother and I will be back in full force Sept 2021!  Much love,  Kate

I guess I forgot that was an option!   Don't worry, I still feed my kids, but I decided to do it differently, and that has made all the difference.    Take a listen and let me know what you think.  Also would love a rating a review!

Ep 55 When a Belief Clicks

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 16, 2021 16:34

Today I am talking about what happens when a specific belief truly clicks in your brain,  and how everything you have in your life came from a thought/belief that you then brought into reality.  It's a powerful concept to tap into.  Our beliefs drive everything we do and create everything we have. When our beliefs are not aligned (for example we say all the mantras to create abundance, but deep down believe money is hard), the result of more money will not be delivered.  One of my clients is the best example of this. Today I share how her belief about weight was keeping her stuck until we uncovered all those sneaky thoughts hiding in her brain and poked a couple of holes in them. The weight DROPPED off after that. It was like the snap of a finger.  This is the power of your thought and what you believe to be possible. It's not magic… but kind of.  Have a listen and let me know what you think.

    Ep 54 Capacity to Have

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 9, 2021 16:51

Today we are looking at the capacity to have. How good are you at having?  It shows up in our ability to receive praise and compliments without pushing them away or knocking them down.  It shows in our ability to take up space in the world instead of hiding and thinking that what we have to say/give doesn't matter.  It shows up in our ability to make money and keep it, rather than spend it right away.  Understanding your capacity to have is important. Being able to accept and have things, creates abundance. It lets you know that there is enough to go around- and that your “having” doesn't diminish from anyone else's.  Listen in today and please leave a rating and review if you love this podcast!

    Ep 53 Capacity to Give

Today I am talking about your capacity to give without any strings attached.  Love, time, value and money are all “commodities” that we can give without asking for anything in return.  So on the episode today I am asking you to assess your capacity to give in these areas, and how to create more abundant thoughts that will help you give more in these areas.  I ponder the question, does giving create abundance? Or does feeling abundant allow you to be giving? My answer at the end of it…. Maybe it doesn't matter? Maybe it's both. The result is the same- when we give love, time, value and money, we have the ability to feel amazing about it.  Take a listen and let me know what you think by leaving a rating and review :)

Today I'm talking food protocols and answering the most common questions I get that are leaving people stuck:  1- How do you plan dinners out?  2- How do you deal with food on vacation?  3- I have cravings for carbs during my period, do I change my protocol?  4- I'm newly pregnant and don't know what I want to eat from one day to the next! 5- I work shift-work- how do I make a food plan that I can follow?  Spoiler alert: The answer to all of these is some version of, "you get to choose how you want to eat and are free to put ANYTHING on your protocol." The real problem is fear.    Fear that you're doing it wrong. Fear there's a right answer and you don't know it.  Fear that you'll be ashamed of what you put on your plan, so better to not plan at all.  Fear to make a decision and stick to it.  I want to talk you through all of this and get you to a place where you not only enjoy making a food protocol, you see how the simple act of creating it builds so much integrity and trust with yourself- which is the most amazing byproduct of all.

Ep 47 Why Other People Can't Hurt Your Feelings

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2021 14:52

Did you know that other people can’t hurt your feelings?  The truth is, nobody has that much power over you.  Your brain gets to decide what to think at every turn- just because someone calls you stupid doesn’t mean you have to believe it. Doesn't mean you have to be ‘hurt’ by it.  That rhyme-  Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me- It’s 100% true.  A name someone calls us can’t hurt us. It’s just a word. It’s a sound. It tells us more about that other person, than about us. A name has zero power until we make it mean something.  Today I want to shine some light on this concept for you because when you are in full control of your emotional life the world can throw anything at you and it’s all good. It doesn’t mean we feel happy all the time or that we enjoy being called names, but it does mean we understand the agency we have to decide how to feel about it.

    Ep 46 Arguing with Reality

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 14, 2021 15:23

What I'm talking about today is where we argue with the things we can’t change and make ourselves miserable because of them. You might not even realize you’re doing this.  It sounds like:  “I wish I didn’t marry my current spouse”  “I wish I wasn’t abused as a child” “I wish COVID and pandemics didn’t exist”  “I wish I made amends with my parents before they died”  All of these wishes seem justified. But these thoughts actually leave you yearning to change something that cannot be changed.  Our thought about what happened can change, but the actual circumstance (maybe that you married a person, or that you were abused as a child), those are just facts now. It doesn’t mean we like what happened, but wishing it away will always leave you suffering.  I believe that there is supposed to be pain in the world. I believe that there are supposed to be hard times for humans. I believe that not everything should be perfect all of the time.  The reason I believe it is because it’s what this life experience is showing me over and over.  Come listen and let me know what you think.

Ep 45 How to Be More Self-Confident

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 7, 2021 19:03

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate your self-confidence?  So many women and clients that I talk to are very low on this scale, but it’s only because they say things like:  I can’t start that passion project because I don’t know how.  I would love to try creating something, but I've never done it before.  I’m not experienced enough to apply for that job. I’m not good enough to ask for the raise.  It’s too hard for me.  Listen up! These sentences are the biggest roadblocks in your desire to be more self confident. If you’ve said any version of them (there are many more), you are stalling your ability to be a 10/10 on the self-confidence dial.  These thoughts are like a big, wet blanket on the fire of your dreams and they lead to inaction every single time.  Today on the podcast I want to teach you new sentences + ways of thinking that will level you up in this area. I will explain what self-confidence is and how it’s different from confidence, as well as the four areas to focus on in order to build your self-confidence.  Because we aren’t born self-confident. It’s something we develop internally as we take risks, fail, and then continue to love and respect ourselves on the other side.  What if your thoughts could sound more like this: I can figure anything out.  I create anything I truly want. I have the exact experience I need to achieve this goal. I am willing to feel any emotion on the way to my dreams. I can do hard things. You in?

Well, then it just stops working.  Today I encourage you to zoom in. What if walking breaks and rest were scheduled into your day? What if you never planned more than you could manage? In today’s episode I’m talking about feelings- and most importantly, how to feel. Feelings are not a soft skill.  When you are willing to feel, you will be willing to take more chances and make bigger choices. When you are willing to feel, you will see that you have so much more power than you think.  A feeling is just a sensation in our body.  Sadness. Anger, Resentment, Love. Fear. Despair. Happiness- all of these are just vibrations in our body caused by the thoughts we are thinking. Many of us feel the inkling of sadness and refuse to feel it. We eat, drink, binge TV, scroll social media, clean the house, go to sleep, go for a run… we do everything in our power to not feel sadness in our body.  Today I want to show you the power of feeling your emotions.  I want to show you that when you allow your feelings, the feelings move through you (they don’t get stuck), and they dissipate.  It matters because when you know the worst thing that can happen is a feeling, and you are willing to feel any feeling, you are in control of your life.  Enjoy!

Isn’t it crazy how we can actually fall in love with celebrities and people on the internet, without them even knowing we exist (hello Oprah!)?  It’s because the relationship we have with them and the connection we have with them, is created in our minds. All relationships are created in our minds. The bonds you have where you feel incredible love, commitment, safety and acceptance- that’s not because the other person is giving it to you.  Those relationships where you feel awkward, tense, dislike, or disconnection- that’s not because the other person is depriving you.  In both of these scenarios, the thoughts you think about that person (good or bad), are all on you and all within your control.  This is the best news. It means that if you want to fix a relationship or feel deeper love for someone, you have the power to make that happen- you don’t even need to tell them you are doing it #brainexplosion.  Listen up to today’s podcast where I take you through a specific exercise you can do to improve all of your relationships- including the one you have with yourself. Today on the podcast I am chatting with style guru (in my eyes anyway), Michelle Sumiko-  a guest who is 100% going to help with leveling up your style!  As a mom (who now works exclusively from home), getting dressed sometimes doesn’t happen for me until 2pm. Gulp. It usually means sweatpants, a t-shirt, bra optional, and my hair in a top knot. Double gulp.  I guess it’s not terrible- I'm super comfy after all, but it could be so much better.  And what I learned from Michelle today is that it only takes a couple of basic pieces in your wardrobe, combined with some more exciting shoes or jewelry, to give you that extra little oomph to your look. I really enjoyed our chat where she shared her style inspo, key wardrobe essentials, tips on how to layer jewelry and ways to incorporate trends into your leisure-wear.  Links we talk about:  Loeffler Randall  Zara Blue Ruby  Petits Vilains Jacadi  Petit Bateau    Etsy Shop here Follow Michelle on IG Follow me on IG  If you liked this episode please rate + review!

Feelings drive everything we do. Every goal, dream, desire and hope- we reach for it because we think it will make us feel a certain way.  Feelings also drive everything we don't do. The fear, the anxiety, the sadness, the pain, the regret- we avoid doing (fill in the blank) because we are scared of the things we might feel in order to get there.  But the truth is, to have the full human experience we need to feel and be open to all of it.   What are you willing to feel? It's a powerful question. And when the answer is "everything", it's a powerful place to be.

Today I'm sharing my thoughts on the 50/50 of life. 50% of the time things will go our way, we will feel good feelings and think positive thoughts. But none of that would even exist without the times that things didn't go our way, the 50% that wasn't so good, or wasn't so positive.   Knowing that life is 50/50 will relieve you from wanting to be happy, or thinking you should be happy all the time. You will always experience both sides of the good and bad, which is beautiful and what make the human experience so incredible and profound.

A lot of new Moms talk about this idea of ‘coming through the fog’ after having a babyI came across a picture of myself recently where I am deep in the fog. I can see it on my face.  I remember thinking that I should have been happy (we were on vacation in Mexico), but I was struggling big time.  Today on the podcast I want to share my experience because I know so many of you feel this way and feel isolated by it. This idea of ‘faking happy’ or feeling like you should feel happy when you aren’t.  Or struggling with your body. Or dealing with postpartum depression. Or hating your partner all of a sudden. Or resenting your kids. I get it. It’s all normal. You’re doing all of it correctly.  There are so many things as Moms and women we feel on a very deep level after having our kids- and today I just want to share my story and maybe give you some comfort knowing that: girl- you are not alone.

"The Manual" is the book of rules we have for the people in our lives. It's what many of us use to control our feelings: "If you do this for me, I will feel this way"...  While this seems benign it can be very harmful to the way we show up and act in our lives. Tying our emotions to other peoples' actions always puts us on the losing end of the equation. Today I want to teach you what the manual is and show you that you always have a choice about what to think and feel about the people in your life- no strings attached.  Get ready to free yo'self!  Please rate and review if you like what you're hearing- and make sure to follow me on IG @Katetdalton
