There's a sneaky, insidious thing that has a life of its own, It is called podfading and it sounds exactly like it is. It means, your podcast goes away. It fades away. You stop doing it. In this episode, we are diving head-on into this danger that most new podcasters go through, and I am going to provide my magical solution that will change the way you look at podcasting. Dancing with the podfade monster is the thing that is stopping you in your tracks. It's telling you it's not working, no one is listening, and all of this is based on non-factual evidence. You may also be thinking, “but I thought a podcast means I get instant listeners, WTF?” Super, super sneaky, and usually this happens right at the beginning of your podcasting life. About 3 months in, or around 10 or 20 episodes in. Then, you stop BEFORE you ever gave your podcast a chance. Investment of time and money down the drain. You skip a week, or you scramble to record in that week. Then, you get back on track the following week, but you're scrambling because you got something going on, or you're traveling, or there's an emergency with a kid.I work with clients who decided ahead of time that they are in it for the process not the outcome because the outcome can't be predicted. If you want that kind of support, I can help. Click here to set up a call. When the pod honeymoon is over, they just keep going. They get that creating a successful podcast takes a TONS of time. That's what we're talking about in this episode so you can develop the mindset to commit and keep going no matter what. Ever felt like your creative ideas are too "out there" to share on a podcast? Or, do you wory that releasing something unpolished could be a crucial mistake? In today's short and sweet minisode, I talk about seemingly irrelevant ideas can make a profound impact and how embracing the unexpected can unlock doors we never even knew existed. There's something missing in what people are teaching about podcasting. They are missing the MOST important ingredient, and that is creativity. When you are creative, this is not a selfish act. You are giving something so powerful to the world and the people who need you. Don't keep this under wraps. Don't turn this into a "marketing thing." Be unapologetically relentless and open with your words, even if they only touch the heart of just one person. It ALL matters. What does reclamation mean? It means claiming an inner power from a deep well of knowing that only you can draw from. What are you drawn to? You know what the first pancake is like... it's sloppy, it doesn't look like the right shape, but then after the pan warms up and you have the right rhythm, the pancakes all start coming out the way you want them too. Our podcasts are like this too. We don't need to wait until the stars align to start the projects close to our hearts. Embrace the first few episodes as your "sloppy first pancake" and hold them with love and care. Then, you can look back and use them as a way to measure how far you've come.In this episode, I hope you'll consider the value of the lessons learned through our less-than-perfect beginnings. Don't hold back your light because someone needs it. Get out of your own way and press record today. Do this podcast for YOU, not because you're like, "well, it's going to be good for my business, and a friend in my Facebook Group said it's a good idea, and you should try it out for your business."It all starts by having a real conversation about the things that really matter to you, and this conversation happens with you.In this episode, I share a story from my magazine days about a peer from another publication. This person was doing a podcast that they were so passionate about, and put so much care in doing pre-chats before each interview. I remember meeting up with them for drinks one year at a trade event, and they were expressing so much doubt because of the time it took, and the podcast not producing results yet. I said, "just keep going, you're doing it right. This is what it's about... your heart and your passion is in this for the long game. It will pay off!" So, you my dear listener, this is a message for you too. Keep your sights on your vision. Forget the timeline, or when you think it's supposed to "happen." There is no timeline. It's all made up. It's all so arbitrary. ACTION is where the magic and confidence happens. Focus your love, passion and energy there, and sparks will fly! After nearly 10 years behind the mic, I have to say that getting scrappy on the regular is hands-down one of my strong superpowers. We can't get everything done at the same time, but we can get done what matters most at the right time. Episode highlights:Why getting scrappy can be the ultimate podcasting superpowerHow to capture unexpected moments to record on the flyHow to create time and location freedom (as I illustrate in this episode!) How to create your own tiny traveling recording studioThe definition of success in podcasting means this -- it's about ease and fun and whatever that means for you, so let it be quirky and even a little eccentric. This is how you'll create the longevity and consistency I know you want. Let it be fun ... then it gets easy. Here's what you're listeners don't want…They don't want (or care) about the intro music. They don't care about the fancy 30-sec elevator pitch (they will press the fast forward anyway). Better to... mix it up and introduce yourself in a fresh way at the beginning of every episode. Get creative! They will never know what kind of microphone you are using so pick one you like. They don't wanna know all about your story and your history and all the accolades that you've had. Those things are nice and they are good to share but think about your client and where they are right now. They just wanna know - can you help me with my problem? Yes, do the music, the intro... all of it, but NOT at the expense of forgetting what a podcast is really about. Podcasting has given me a successful coaching business where I get to pay forward all of this wisdom, and of course you can have the same.If you were a clairvoyant, and told me back in 2014 that a podcast would give me the success I have today, I'd never believed it. When you detach from the outcome, you no longer NEED a podcast. That's when you start going somewhere. This shift can change your entire perspective. How can you find safety in detaching from the outcome? How can you podcast for the love of it, expecting zero in return in the way of downloads, listeners, clients, etc.?How can you hold your podcasting commitment in a playful way with a firm intention?Support the show Let's be friends on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/KaraGottWarner Listen and subscribe on Apple Podcasts Visit my website at karagottwarner.com NEED MORE SUPPORT? Oprah once said “I will no longer be on TV but I will use it as a force for good and not be used by TV. When Oprah made this shift, it changed everything. How can you take this wisdom and apply it to your podcast? How can you unforgettable? The question Oprah asks herself when disappointment or confusion strikes is: “what is this here to teach me?" Asking this question can be so revealing, because we often discover most of our problems circle back to trying to show us how to practice more patience, more love, more giving, more compassion.Solving inner obstacles always solves outer obstacles. Here are 3 things Oprah says “will carry us if we let them”1. Knowing who you really are2. You must find a way to serve 3. Always do the right thing - be excellent so you become UNFORGETTABLE"Don't ask the world what it needs. What does it mean to have that spark of inspiration? Where does it come from? How can you capture it? In this episode, we're going to explore that seed of excitement, and when it arrives how to bottle it up. This is the magic ingredient to telling your story, and creating your podcasting vision. Elizabeth Gilbert says inspiration is found in the ether, and Stephen Pressfield calls it the muse. Whatever you want to call it, it's there for the taking when it's calling us. As creators, it's our job to answer the call, believe it's divinely inspired as something to act on when luck, opportunity and creativity collide.
