What Real Recovery From Porn Addiction Looks Like With Sathiya Sam, Founder of DeepClean™

When He Says He'll Change: What Real Recovery From Porn Addiction Actually Looks Like With Sathiya Sam, Founder of DeepClean™ After discovering pornography, infidelity, or other secret sexual behavior, one of the hardest questions isn't simply Why did he do it? It's Can he actually change? He may swear he'll never do it again. Delete apps. Install filters. Start therapy. Hand over his phone. Go weeks or months without pornography. And you desperately want to believe that this time is different. But how can you tell the difference between someone who has stopped a behavior—for now—and someone who is actually changing? In this episode, Lora Cheadle sits down with Sathiya Sam, founder of DeepClean™, author of The Last Relapse, and host of The Man Within podcast, for a candid conversation about pornography addiction, betrayal, relapse, and what lasting recovery really requires. Drawing from his own 15-year struggle with pornography and his work helping men recover, Sathiya explains why pornography addiction is rarely solved by willpower, promises, shame, filters, or simply trying harder. Lasting change requires getting underneath the behavior to the emotional wounds, unmet needs, nervous-system patterns, beliefs, and identity that helped create the cycle in the first place. His current DeepClean approach likewise emphasizes addressing underlying emotional wounds, core beliefs, unmet needs, regulation, identity, and relationships rather than measuring success only by abstinence. Lora and Sathiya also address the question so many betrayed partners struggle with: What is my role in his recovery? Because supporting someone is not the same as recovering for them. You cannot love him enough, monitor him enough, become a "superwife," have more sex, make his life easier, or find the perfect words that will make him change. His recovery belongs to him. Your healing belongs to you. And perhaps most importantly, recovery doesn't have to mean returning to the relationship you had before. When someone genuinely addresses the roots of addiction, the goal isn't simply a man who no longer watches pornography. It's a man who knows himself better, regulates himself differently, communicates more honestly, takes responsibility for his needs and behavior, and begins showing up differently in his marriage and his life.   Top 3 Takeaways Stopping the behavior is not the same as healing what created it. A promise to stop, an internet filter, accountability software, or a period of abstinence may change behavior without addressing its roots. Sathiya describes lasting recovery as developing self-awareness, healing underlying emotional wounds and unmet needs, and shifting identity—not merely becoming better at resisting pornography. Look for trends of transformation, not just streaks of abstinence. Instead of asking only, How many days has he been "clean"?, look at what is changing in the man. Can he name his emotions and needs? Regulate himself during difficult conversations? Talk about what he's uncovering without becoming immediately defensive? Take responsibility for his recovery? Communicate honestly about both struggles and progress? As Sathiya explains, a relapse does not automatically erase every bit of growth—and a long streak does not necessarily prove the underlying problem has healed. You can support his recovery, but you cannot do it for him. One of the most painful truths for a betrayed partner is that you cannot make someone want recovery more than they want it themselves. Your job is not to become his accountability partner or work harder for his healing than he does. Your work is getting your own support, processing your pain safely, establishing and upholding your boundaries, and paying attention to what his behavior—not merely his promises—is showing you. Favorite Quotes “He kind of has to want to change more than you want him to change for anything to actually change.” — Sathiya Sam “I would rather be 100% my true self and rejected than 80% my true self and accepted.” — Sathiya Sam “This is not about him not loving her. This is not about him not valuing the marriage or the relationship or their kids.” — Lora Cheadle   About Sathiya Sam Sathiya Sam is the founder of DeepClean™, an author, international speaker, former university researcher and pastor, and host of The Man Within podcast. After his own long struggle with pornography, Sathiya developed a root-focused approach to helping men move beyond addictive behaviors by addressing emotional wounds, unmet needs, regulation, faith, relationships, and identity. His book, The Last Relapse, expands on the principles discussed in this episode, including why lasting freedom requires more than willpower or surface-level behavior modification. Your body is talking to your brain constantly, telling it either 'I'm safe' or 'I'm not safe.' The posture you default to when no one's watching might be the thing keeping you stuck. Amy Cuddy, the social psychologist behind one of the most-watched TED Talks ever, sat down to unpack what actually builds confidence when the world feels unstable. She talks about the difference between faking it and becoming it, why imposter syndrome hits 75-85% of people, and why the bullies who came after her post-TED fame taught her more about personal power than the research ever did. You'll hear about the exact breathing pattern she uses before high-stakes moments, the simple writing exercise that beats any pep talk, and why she thinks reframing anxiety as excitement changes everything. There's also a story about a nurse named Alex Wubbels who got thrown against a wall for doing the right thing, and what that taught Amy about the kind of bravery that has no glory attached to it. This conversation will make you rethink every time you've shrunk yourself to avoid being noticed. Sit up straight, not for anyone else, but because you deserve the respect you keep giving away. Laura Worley joins Michael Jaco for a disturbing and deeply revealing conversation about the hidden world of ritual abuse, mind control and the programming systems she has spent 14 years researching and helping survivors overcome. An author, speaker, trainer and trauma-recovery coach, Laura has worked with survivors around the world who report experiences involving satanic ritual abuse, MK Ultra-style programming, generational trauma and organized systems of control. In this conversation, Laura takes Michael inside the terminology and structures she has encountered through her work, including what she describes as Mothers of Darkness, Druids, Illuminati networks, Freemasonry and Kabbala “Tree of Death” programming. She breaks down the alleged methods used to fragment identity, create fear, manipulate memory and maintain psychological control—and, most importantly, discusses the difficult process of helping survivors recognize the programming, reclaim their lives and begin healing. Laura's work isn't simply about exposing darkness. It's about getting people OUT of it. For more than a decade, she has developed resources for survivors as well as specialized training for professionals working with people who report complex ritual-abuse and mind-control trauma. Her four-book Puzzle Pieces series documents her research, survivor-focused framework and personal testimony: Puzzle Pieces to The Cabal, Mind Control, and Slavery — Part 1 Puzzle Pieces Together: Manual — A Pathway to Freedom — Part 2 Puzzle Pieces Together: Hidden Knowledge — Part 3 My Witness Against The Cabal — Part 4 Michael and Laura go into territory most conversations won't touch as they explore trauma, programming, secret societies, ritual abuse, spiritual warfare and the path toward breaking psychological control. But beneath everything is an essential message: Survivors can heal. Programming can be confronted. Lives can be reclaimed.

Episode Summary: When you are crushed and broken hearted, where do you go to find hope? Jesus said that in this life we will have pain, heartbreak, and trials. So how do we deal with our pain? What does it look like to walk with God in our grief. Our guest today has experienced her share of pain including a traumatic brain injury as well as cancer diagnoses for two of her daughters. In her suffering, Linda boldly asked God tough questions like How do I keep going? God, where are you? And How do I keep trusting. In honor of Grief Awareness Day, today we’re going to be talking about Daring to Hope When Your Heart Is Shattered: Trusting God Through Pain and Loss. Quotables from the episode: I'm going to dare to hope anyway. I am going to dare to hope. God, I can't give up. I have to keep trusting you. I will not give up. I will not give up. I will not give up. Hope does not come from a change in your circumstances, but from a change in your thinking. I had to look up, I had to look at him, and I had to say ‘I won't give up.’ You are my hope, God, and my hope will be in you. If I got on my knees and opened my hands and surrendered to him, I got my perspective right because my eyes were lifted up to him. The greatest way to pour hope into your hurting heart is to sink deep into the love of God. Because being with you, my beloved, is the most important thing in my life. Peace can't be in our circumstances. It has to be in him. Scripture References: Lamentations 3:21-24 “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my inheritance;’ therefore, I will hope in him!” Habakkuk 2:4 “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Recommended Resources: Hope for My Hurting Heart: 8 Heart Skills to Help You Cling to God and Not Give Up by Linda Dillow Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow Free Stress-Response Personality Assessment Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner AWSA 2024 Golden Scroll Christian Living Book of the Year and the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Christian Living and Non-Fiction categories YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises from God to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, AWSA Member of the Year, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Devotional category, the 2023 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day version 1 YouVersion Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day version 2 Revive & Thrive Women’s Online Conference Revive & Thrive Summit 2 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 1 Trusting God through Cancer Summit 2 Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2020 Best Christian Living Book First Place, the first place winner for the Best Christian Living Book, the 2020 Carolina Christian Writer’s Conference Contest winner for nonfiction, and winner of the 2021 Christian Literary Award’s Reader’s Choice Award in all four categories for which it was nominated (Non-Fiction Victorious Living, Christian Living Day By Day, Inspirational Breaking Free and Testimonial Justified by Grace categories.) Are you actually feeling your feelings—or are you really good at thinking about them? In this episode, we're joined by somatic coach, educator, and Healing Embodied founder Chelsea Horton to explore why insight alone doesn't always create change. We unpack what Chelsea calls “thought-feeling fusion” and “emotional constipation,” why so many of us automatically analyze, judge, or suppress emotions, and what can happen when we learn to let the body do what it naturally knows how to do.We also get into anxiety, nervous system regulation, body awareness, sensuality, and Chelsea's love of pole dancing as a path toward embodiment and self-expression. Whether you're a big thinker who lives like a “floating head in a jar,” someone who feels everything intensely, or someone who struggles to feel much at all, this conversation offers a different way to relate to your emotions—and your body.Episode Highlights[0:03] - Are you feeling your feelings—or just analyzing them?[2:39] - Why emotions happen in the body and the “floating head in a jar” problem[5:15] - Understanding thought-feeling fusion and why we become “emotionally constipated”[8:43] - Why feeling can be scary and how to build your capacity for body awareness[13:32] - Why we can't selectively numb emotions—and what it really means to feel alive[16:16] - Chelsea shares how pole dancing helped her reclaim sensuality, sexuality, and embodiment[21:32] - Using movement and somatic work to move through shame and insecurity[24:11] - How staying with bodily sensations can transform our relationship with anxiety[27:44] - Learning to feel as a skill—and why you can eventually practice it on your own[31:42] - Making friends with anxiety and recognizing the gifts inside an anxious mind[34:37] - Practical body-awareness exercises for highly sensitive people and those who feel numb[38:42] - Where to begin with somatic work: building a relationship with your body instead of trying to “fix” itLinks & Resourceswww.healingembodied.com/connectwww.facebook.com/groups/embodiedleaderparadigmIf today's discussion resonated with you or sparked curiosity, please rate, follow, and share Insights from the Couch with others. --With Sam's Healing Podcast After infidelity, promises can sound reassuring—but how do you know whether your partner is actually changing? In this episode, Lora Cheadle talks with Sam from Sam's Healing Podcast about what real recovery looks like on the unfaithful side of betrayal. They explore why actions matter more than apologies, why the unfaithful partner needs to take initiative instead of waiting to be managed, and why becoming teachable, confrontable, and emotionally mature is essential for rebuilding trust. They also discuss communication tools like AVR—acknowledge, validate, reassure—along with self-regulation, co-regulation, childhood patterns, boundaries, and the difference between performing recovery and genuinely becoming someone new.   Top 3 Takeaways Stop listening only to what they say. Watch what they do. Promises like “It will never happen again” have very little value if they are not backed by consistent behavior. Real change shows up between sessions: seeking help, reading, doing exercises, attending meetings when appropriate, learning new skills, telling the truth, following through, and taking initiative without being parented by the betrayed partner. The unfaithful partner goes first. The person who created the rupture has a responsibility to lead the repair. That means booking appointments, finding resources, doing the work, becoming teachable and open to correction, and learning how to respond to the betrayed partner's pain rather than becoming defensive or demanding that they “get over it.” Healing requires more than understanding why the affair happened. Childhood wounds and family-of-origin patterns matter, but insight alone does not automatically create empathy, emotional maturity, communication skills, or safety. Both partners eventually need to learn self-regulation and co-regulation, while the unfaithful partner demonstrates through consistent action that they are becoming someone capable of rebuilding trust.   Favorite Quotes “Forget about what they're saying. Look at what they're doing.” —Sam “The only currency is action.” —Sam “There is a time where we as unfaithful stop saying what we will do. We just do it.” —Sam “You can't regulate yourself out of a toxic relationship.” —Lora Cheadle   About Sam Sam's Healing Podcast is brought to you by one of Infidelity Recovery's most prominent and renowned influencers and YouTubers. How to Hear from God and Find Peace Without Knowing What's Next

Episode Summary: The God of the universe is trying to communicate with you. Are you listening? Have you ever felt like God was prompting you to do something but questioned whether it was his voice? Instead of acting, you waited for another sign. What if God has already given us what we need to know if a word is from him? Today’s guest, Abby McDonald, addresses a key misconception about God's voice: that it will tell what will happen tomorrow. We've mistaken God's voice in our lives for a means of obtaining knowledge instead of embracing its power to give us peace for today. Since the fall in the garden of Eden, humanity has carried the same deception that misled Eve. We think more information will give us more freedom. But if we look at Jesus's teachings, we see that his direction was never intended to give us a roadmap. We can trade the yoke of certainty we carry for a better one: Jesus's yoke. By focusing on three promises Jesus gave us in John 10, Abby McDonald, addresses a key misconception about God's voice: that it will tell what shows a better way to live, empowered by God's Word instead of a false sense of security. In this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective, we’re going to be talking about How to Hear from God and Find Peace Without Knowing What’s Next. Quotables from the episode: Jesus never promised to give us a guarantee about what's going to happen now his presence with us is a guarantee absolutely but he doesn't promise to show us what's going to happen. We can trade that yoke, that need for certainty for Jesus' yoke. And he tells us his yoke is easy and his burden is light. And that doesn't promise that our lives are going to be easy and light. He doesn't promise us that, but he does promise to give us what we need for today. And there's so much more peace living in today. Until we surrender those questions that, like you said, we're just going to live in that state of anxiety, and we're going to be worrying and trying to control what is not in our ability to control. If we focus on what God has given us, the truth that He has given us, then we can live in His peace and we can have joy and abundant life. Let your fear propel you toward Jesus. Most of the time in my experience, hearing from God is more like a gentle nudge. It's more like a prompt or just this burning that I fill in my heart and I just know that I have to do something. We don't learn to recognize those nudges until we act on them. What can look like a closed door may actually just be a detour in the path that he has to get us where he wants us ultimately to go. We cannot know the voice of God if we do not know what his word says. Scripture References: John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, they will follow me.” John 10:9 “They will come in and go out, and find pasture.” John 10:28 “No one will snatch them out of my hand.” Recommended Resources: Surrendering Certainty: Hearing God Today by Letting Go of Tomorrow by Abby McDonald Shift: Changing Our Focus to See the Presence of God by Abby McDonald Free Stress-Response Personality Assessment Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2020 Best Christian Living Book First Place, the first place winner for the Best Christian Living Book, the 2020 Carolina Christian Writer’s Conference Contest winner for nonfiction, and winner of the 2021 Christian Literary Award’s Reader’s Choice Award in all four categories for which it was nominated (Non-Fiction Victorious Living, Christian Living Day By Day, Inspirational Breaking Free and Testimonial Justified by Grace categories.) The Ex-Philes: Break-ups, Broken Hearts and Moving On

Let me be your breakup buddy! Schedule a free 1:1 session with me here. Sometimes we stay stuck after a breakup because we find ourselves full of regret over everything that happened. The source of that regret is that we are remembering and ruminating the good times and the good qualities of our ex over the bad. This is a normal and natural thing to do. But it does not mean that the breakup was a mistake. It does not mean that you should break no-contact with this person. It means that you are a human with a great capacity to love. Getting over this hurdle will allow you to move to the next phase of the healing journey. So today I am sharing FOUR ways to stop idealizing your ex so that you can RECLAIM your life and move on. I share: -The importance of intentionally moving on from this stage of the healing journey. -Putting your thoughts back in context. -Missing is a choice - reaching out to someone is a decision. -Developing habits that will support your healing. -The importance of preparing to make space for grief. ❓Want to learn about my breakup or secure attachment coaching? What happens when AI becomes more than a tool—and starts becoming a thinking partner, emotional regulator, therapist, or even a relationship? In this episode, we're getting very honest about our own relationships with ChatGPT, Claude, and AI: how often we use them, what we actually find helpful, and the parts that already make us a little nervous. We're digging into the tension between the convenience of AI and the very human things we don't want to lose: creativity, critical thinking, emotional regulation, vulnerability, and real connection. Is AI helping us think—or slowly teaching us not to? Can an always-available chatbot change what we expect from relationships? And what happens when people start turning to AI for therapy, dating advice, companionship, and comfort? This one left both of us thinking about some boundaries we may need to put in place.Episode Highlights[0:40] - Confessing how much we're actually using AI in our everyday lives.[2:29] - Why AI can feel like another relationship where you're just not being understood.[4:10] - The “ick” of AI validation, false flattery, and having a companion who never gets annoyed.[5:35] - Where AI shines as a strategic thinking partner for work, career moves, and problem-solving.[7:05] - Using AI for emotional regulation—and why we're starting to see some genuine value in it.[9:06] - Why AI support can't replace human co-regulation, responsiveness, and connection.[11:34] - Are we eliminating the “friction of humanity” by choosing synthetic relationships over messy real ones?[12:56] - How quickly AI has infiltrated our lives—and why that raises questions about cognitive atrophy.[14:40] - What GPS can teach us about outsourcing our memory, thinking, and problem-solving.[16:00] - Creativity, imagination, and the danger of letting AI do the messy ideating for us.[17:55] - Why we may need to think for ourselves before asking AI what it thinks.[18:27] - Esther Perel, AI relationships, and the reality of people forming bonds with artificial companions.[20:08] - Dating, rejection, vulnerability, and why synthetic relationships may become especially seductive.[23:04] - Asking AI what someone else is thinking—and whether AI could eventually replace parts of therapy.[24:06] - What happened when a young couple arrived at therapy already armed with AI-generated attachment insights.[26:39] - AI couples therapy: far-fetched idea or something therapists need to prepare for now?[27:17] - The human advantage: presence, relational skills, nuance, and the personal touch AI can't fully replicate.[28:58] - The Master and His Emissary, right-brain thinking, and protecting the parts of ourselves that make us beautifully human.[30:25] - Why human beings being flawed, nuanced, and messy may be exactly what's worth holding onto.If today's discussion resonated with you or sparked curiosity, please rate, follow, and share Insights from the Couch with others. I first met Alyssa Rosenheck at a coffee shop in Nashville, TN, with my husband, Kyle. She was a notable architectural photographer whose book was being sold at the Draper James boutique, which I'd just visited, and she offered to show us the town. I didn't know then that she was also Jewish, which, in the pre-October 7th days, wasn't necessarily something that would come up in conversation. And yet, after October 7th, Alyssa became a vocal proponent of the Jewish people, leading political and societal change efforts in her community. She contributed to my anthology On Being Jewish Now. Her next book, White. Blonde. Jew., is coming out and has been met with controversy in her community; her launch event was canceled. I'll be hosting Alyssa at Totally Booked: Live in New York on Sunday, October 25th. Listen to our candid conversation (recorded before the cancellation). ** Want more? Become a part of my community! Everyone knows the Idaho murders. Tonight, you meet Kaylee's mother. Kristi Goncalves is the one who got the knock on the door ... the one who asked the deputy if the other girl was Maddie, her daughter's best friend. Tonight, she tells her story in her own voice: the online trolls who wounded her most, the plea deal her family fought, and the moment she looked her daughter's killer in the eye and told him hell would be waiting. But this isn't only a story about loss ... it's about what she built from it. In her darkest days, a stranger started sending her cards, one mom to another. Out of that friendship, Kristi and retired cop Tracie Brocco ... two women who've never met in person ... created Murder Has a Name, funding the same DNA technology that caught Kaylee's killer for the cold cases that can't afford it.
