  Happy 2018, everybody! New year, new season, new format for the podcast! Well, partially. We are still going to be releasing our typical interview-style podcasts here & there in the future, but will also be releasing a shorter, more frequent "Topic Edition" version of the show. In these we will focus on a topic we find interesting or that you the listener have picked for us to discuss. We're not dead! At least not at the point we are pushing "Publish" on this episode. We hope you have had a lovely last 5 months without The Sixth Degree in your ears. To anyone that has missed us: we hope you will accept our apologies for the unplanned absence. To anyone that *hasn't* missed us: well, we feel your pain and promise to be just as lazy and apathetic with this podcast going forward. Speaking of lazy and apathetic, that's kind of how we sound in this episode. Yay! As we discuss, our long break was mostly due to both of us moving across town at roughly the same time. Pure coincidence, we promise! That long break was then mostly extended due to new house/schedule busy-ness and generally bad packing techniques when it comes to podcasting gear. We recorded this over a month ago (as you can tell by the dated pop culture references) and I debated whether to even put it out into the open due to the technical glitches from a shoddy gear setup (the pops & clicks in the audio). We hope that audio issue will work itself out in the next few episodes. Do know that we are aware of it. Jenny has hands down the best voice that has ever graced the mics on the podcast. But her vocal chords aren't the reason she came to hang out with us. During Royals' home games Sam is tasked with capturing much of the game day magic and fun that goes on at Kaufman Stadium and sharing it through MLB social media. Hey everyone, it's a new episode of The Sixth Degree! We've been busy this fall livin' life, being dads and rooting for the Indians in the World Series, but we wanted to get this episode out before it became completely irrelevant. And because it's an interview with Matt Hoopes, guitarist and co-conspirator behind the excellent rock & roll band Relient K! During Ryan's more impressionable years, Relient K was an up & coming Christian pop-punk band who made their bones in and around Northeast Ohio. After nearly 20 years together, they're still out making great music and touring the country playing shows for thousands of fans. We talk with Matt about their latest record Air For Free, what it's like touring while also being a dad, the state of post-Tooth & Nail Christian music, his new pedal company 1981 Inventions, oh, and the pretty hilarious way that Ryan met the Matt's back in 1998.
