Like other Unspoiled! shows, in this one we have one person who has seen the entire series (Jaime) and one who knew absolutely nothing about the show going in (Krista). And sometimes we have special guest hosts from across the Unspoiled! Network. Join us on this crazy magical island!
This is it, guys. We've made it to the finale! And while I fully expected to just blubber through the entire thing, I pulled through and didn't shed one tear! Krista had an interesting take on what it all means, and it's a theory I've never heard or considered before. And, while we interpreted how it all wrapped up differently, we aren't in opposition. We will be taking a little break, but we want to come back with an episode where we answer all of your questions. So get them in to us! I'll make a post in the Facebook groups, but you can also send questions on Twitter @theconstantpod, or theconstantpod@gmail.com . Ask away, everyone!Thank you to everyone who stuck with us from the beginning, and all of you that we picked up along the way. We have loved doing this show so much, and knowing you guys were there with us means so much. Thank you to Natasha for taking us under her wing and supporting this endeavor. She's the best boss bitch two newbie podcasters could ask for. We hope you come along with us with our next adventures in podcasting. We'll be back soon with The Punisher, and The Vampire Diaries will return after that. You all are the best. Until we return: Namaste, m*th*rf*ck*rs.
In this, the penultimate episode of Lost, we learn which candidate steps up to the task of being the new Jacob - and it's no surprise who. We say goodbye, and good riddance, to Charles Widmore and his lapdog Zoe. We worry about the fate of Richard Alpert and Frank Lapidus. And we speculate on what is going to happen in the finale next week. If you have questions for Krista regarding the series on a whole, DM Jaime on Facebook, twitter (@theConstantPod), or email at theconstantpod@gmail.com . We'll be doing a follow up episode or two so get those questions in. Hey, you may even have some questions for Jaime, who knows! We welcome all inquiries.
Krista has the same reaction as everyone else with this episode, which was: WHY NOW? WHO CAAAARES? Join us as we talk through this speedbump on our way to the finale. So what happens? We get Jacob and MIB's origin stories. They're twins, born from a shipwrecked woman who is then killed by Mother, played by the incandescent Allison Janney. She raises them on lies, which backfires on her later. We learn about the Heart of the Island. More questions are raised. Few answers are given. And sure, this exact thing is probably a big reason why people were frustrated with Lost. I just prefer, personally, to get through this and focus on what's coming up. Are you ready? We're not ready. Also, just a heads up on the audio. Krista's good mic broke and there's a bit of background noise from her roommate, so it's not as crisp as it usually is, but it's not horrible. I did the best I could with the editing.
If you've been with us since season 1, you've probably been wondering how Krista would react to this episode. Well...she didn't rage quit! A moment of silence for our departed friends, Sun, Jin, and Sayid.
In this episode, we've got some bombs, some possible murder, and the groups split again, though this time it seems that Jack is on his own with the LockeMonster. Everyone else heads to Hydra and are immediately captured by Widmore's people, but not before the long awaited reunion between Jin and Sun happens. It's getting closer and closer to the end now, guys, and Krista isn't handling it well.
We're getting closer and closer to the end and Krista is starting to freak out. Here's a drinking game for you: every time Krista says she's scared, or every time she says she hates this, DRINK. In happier news, we have Libby and Hurley finding each other in the Sideways Universe and it predictably made me cry, as did Michael, which I explain because it surprised even me. We have some discussion of what Krista thinks is going to happen, there is some praise of Jack, and a lot of love for Hurley. But that's right there in the title. As usual, a Desmond-centric episode leads to a lot of discussion of what the hell does this mean? Krista has a theory about not only the Sideways-verse, but what Desmond has to do with it. Is she right? We'll know in a few weeks. OMG.
Raise your hands if you thought the titular package was DESMOND. Well, I didn't but Krista suspected. And, while we don't get a lot of Mr. Hume in this episode, we do get a flash sideways about Jin and Sun and how they're not married but definitely into each other, which is nice. Not so nice is Martin Keamy, or Mikhail, who no one was hoping to see again. On the Island, we get a little more of Charles Widmore, which leads to a lot of discussion about his motivations and what the hell he's planning on doing with or to Desmond. At the beach, Sun runs face first into a tree to get away from the LockeMonster, and loses her ability to speak English. It doesn't stop her from speaking her mind though, even if no one can understand what she's saying.
It's finally here: Richard's episode! The best part is that Krista went into this one with dread, thinking it was going to be about Jacob, and instead she got what she'd been asking for for so long! Plus, Maggie is back to discuss all things Alpert, some things Jacob, and a little bit of Man in Black. We also talk about how we feel about Sayid, and Krista tries to guess at the endgame.
We get our Sawyer episode and in a twist we find out that in the Sidewaysverse he's not a con artist, but a cop who takes down con artists. And his partner is Miles! And he goes on a date with a very glamorous Charlotte! Though his backstory is still one of tragedy, he took a different path to be a better, though still sad, man. On the island, though, he's conning anyone and everyone because that's what he does. Either version is cool with us though. Team Sawyer!
What would it be like if Ben Linus were actually a good person? In the Flash Sideways we get to see him choosing what's good for someone else over power for himself, while on the Island we see his remorse for what he's done to retain his power. It's a great episode with a powerhouse performance from Michael Emerson.
Siiiiiiigh. I don't know, you guys. We struggled for things to talk about in this episode. It's just so...BORING. Give it a listen anyway, because we did our best to make at least talking about it entertaining.
What's that? Jack has a KID in the Sidewaysverse? And he's actually a GOOD DAD??! This is interesting. What does it mean? And who is David's mom? These are the things we want to know about. On the Island, Hurley brings Jack on a Jacob-instructed mission to a lighthouse no one has ever seen before, and which Jack gets all Jack about and smashes the mirrors to shards when he isn't given answers immediately. When will he ever learn? How did this dude get through medical school and master the ability to cut into people's spines when he has absolutely no patience? Meanwhile, Claire is crazy. She has a animal skull baby and is killing Others looking for her baby, who she doesn't realize is not only not on the Island anymore, but also not a baby anymore. Jin is savvy in getting himself out of danger of her ax, unlike Justin the Other who ends up with it in his chest. Bye, Justin. We hardly knew ya.
On the Island, Locke promises Sawyer answers, and bring him to a cave covered in names and numbers. Names like Shephard, Reyes, and Ford. Others have been crossed off, like Austen and Locke. This is the stuff I love. What both of us love, though, is the return of Helen! In the FlashSidewaysVerse, we see that Locke, while still a bit petulant about his being in a wheelchair, is actually much happier. He and Helen are planning a wedding, he apparently has a good relationship with his father, and he gets a job as a substitute teacher. Also teaching there? A very uptight Benjamin Linus.
Newsflash: we don't like the Temple crap. But we did like Jack's reaction to their shenanigans, the scene on the dock with Sawyer and Kate, and we debate whether Claire is really Claire. Oh yeah, that's right, Claire is back! But...is she?
Here we are, starting the final season! Can you believe it? We can't. But we soldier on, and talk about what Krista got right, what she got wrong, and what she thinks this is all leading up to.
There's a lot to get into here, from Jacob and the Man in Black, to Locke, to the actual incident and what happens to Juliet. Then, when we've covered all of it, we get Krista's prediction on what's to come in Season 6, and you don't want to miss that.
The shirt is hitting the fan now, y'all. In 1977, we've got Jack following Daniel's not-so-well-described plan to drop a hydrogen bomb into a pocket of energy in order to change the future (guess we're forgetting about whatever happened happened), and Sawyer getting the shirt beat out of him a very eager Radzinsky rather than tell him anything. In 2007, we have Locke fully embracing his dictatorship and giving all the orders, leading the remaining group of Others to Jacob, who no one has ever even seen. Does he even exist? Next week is the season 5 finale! I can't believe how far we've come, and that we only have one season left. We'll be covering both parts of the finale as one episode. If you have any questions you'd like Krista to answer about the finale, or what she thinks is going to happen next, please send them to either in the Lost Spoiler group, on Discord, or DM me on Facebook.
We've got bad dads, we've got bad moms...and then we have Daniel's parents, who take it to a whole other level. Daniel's return brings a whole new level of chaos, and immediately. There's the spilling of the time travel tea, blowing up LaFleur's spot in the Dharma Initiative, and, well, talk of literally blowing up an actual hydrogen bomb. And then he's shot by his mother, who in the future sends him there knowing she's going to kill him. None of this can lead to anything good, right?
We're back! Thank you for your patience in our scheduled hiatus. Weddings were attended, family was seen, illness was combated, and so DragonCon was not on the menu, sadly. But, all of that is the past, what happened happened, and we're forging ahead with what turned out to be a very jam-packed episode. After waiting almost two full seasons, we finally get a Miles episode! We learn that Pierre Chang, aka Marvin Candle, aka that dude in the Dharma videos, is his father...and kind of a douche, but this is Lost, so what did we expect? Hurley tries to bond with Miles over daddy issues and seeing dead people, to little success. Kate uses her heart, not her head, and draws suspicion in her direction. Juliet continues to be the best. Jack seems strangely happy not being in charge. Sawyer seems stressed - heavy is the crown, you know. And Daniel is back!
It's all about Ben Linus in this week's episode, and Krista's thoughts on what we learned about him may surprise you. We get into whether or not he has a soul after Richard took him to the Temple, what his actions with Danielle Rousseau say about him, and we have questions and theories about Ethan, and what Juliet knew. Just a heads up: we will be taking a short hiatus while Krista attends a wedding and celebrates her birthday, and Jaime goes to DragonCon!
In this episode, Kate does everything right! From following through on her promise to help Clementine, to telling Carole about who Aaron really is, to actually going back to the Island to find Claire, to giving blood because she's a universal donor. But then she also goes to great lengths to save young Ben's life, which may be the reason Ben is the way he is.
It's not really an apples to apples comparison to say that Oldham is like Sayid, because let's face it: Oldham's way of getting the truth out of someone is much less blood-soaked and screamy. But it *is* effective, though it's unlikely these Dharma Idiots believe that Sayid is from the future, especially after they vote to kill him. But have no fear! It will take more than a bunch of science-y hippies to bring our man down.
In 2007, we see what a great fucking pilot Frank Lapidus really is, and Sun not only knocks Ben out with a boat paddle, but she meets Christian Shephard. How in the world is she going to get to Jin though? In 1977, things are a little less simple. LaFleur has to sneak the Ajira Three into the Dharma recruits, get their names on the list, assign them to jobs - how's that aptitude test, Jack? - and make sure that they keep their damn mouths shut. Everything is fine, until a Hostile...err...a Sayid shows up. But he knows how to keep quiet, so he might not fuck everything up for our happy hippies.
JAMES LAFLEUR! The leader we've been waiting for has been under our noses the entire time! All we needed was for Jack and Kate to leave, Locke to make a sacrifice, some time travel, and Juliet to have his back. Mostly the Jack leaving thing though. We see how Jim's quick thinking and con-man experience helps the now-stuck-in-the-'70's time travelers not only not get kicked off the Island before Locke can return, but somehow facilitates their entry into the Dharma Initiative. Now, three years later, they are all settled and happy. So of course Jack and Kate (and Hurley) show up to mess it all up.
So now we know: John Locke did not commit suicide. No, that little bastard Ben Linus killed him. And now that Locke is revived on the Island, he's not hiding that fact from anyone. In fact, Locke is much more open and honest now that he's a...zombie?...a ghost?...just brought back to life by a magic island? Ben is not going to be happy when he wakes up, but then, we don't really give a shit about his happiness. Suffer, you little creep.
In what is the first ever linear storytelling episode of this show, we learn how the Oceanic Five get back to The Island, possibly along with Ben, Lapidus, and a bunch of new Red Shirts. We're not sure about anyone but Jack, Kate, and Hurley though, as they're the only ones we see actually on The Island again. Oh, and they are found by Jin, who is wearing a Dharma jumpsuit and driving a Dharma van. What the hell is going on? WHEN ARE WE?
In which we say goodbye to Charlotte, even as she leaves us with more questions. How did she see Daniel as a child? Was Locke able to stop the flashes through time? And if so, where will our castaways land? Is Krista right that they'll either be spread out over time, or part of the Dharma Initiative? And what does all of this mean for the Oceanic Six and Ben's plan to get them all back to the Island?
Time travel is a bitch, and *not* like jet lag. Three of our intrepid travelers have nose bleeds, Sawyer gets a glimpse of long-gone Kate, Locke gets a reminder of his past pain, and HOLY SHIT JIN IS ALIIIIVE!
Desmond goes on his quest to find Faraday's mother, which doesn't turn out to be as easy as he expected. What he does find leads him to Charles Widmore. Speaking of, it turns out that jackass Jones from last week's episode is actually young Mr. Widmore himself. Guess we know why he wants to find the Island so badly. Also, there's a hydrogen bomb, but Daniel isn't too worried about it since the Island still exists fallout free in fifty years.
Hurley is having a hard time. The lie that Jack convinces them all to tell is tearing him apart. He doesn't think they should have left The Island, but when he's given the chance to go back, he throws a Hot Pocket at it. Kind of. Meanwhile, on The Island, shit is going down. There are flaming arrows and new people who are more than willing to cut off hands even before getting answers to their questions. We don't like them. Don't forget to check out our TeePublic store! https://www.teepublic.com/stores/the-constant-podcast?ref_id=6581
Oh boy, you guys, it's all happening now! Time travel! Space-time continuum shit! Daniel being a boss! Sayid pulling a Bourne Identity level murder! No more nervous breakdown beard on Jack! Kate being a great mom! Shirtless Sawyer! It's all breaking Krista's brain and she wants to know what the hell is happening! It's great. Also: we have a merch store now! We're still working on designs, but if any of you have any suggestions of something you'd like to see, or funny things we've said that you think would be amusing on a sticker or a shirt, let us know! https://www.teepublic.com/stores/the-constant-podcast?ref_id=6581
We decided to do these episodes all as one, since the first part was mostly set up for the other two, and really it's all just one big story. A lot happens, obviously, with people dying, the Oceanic Six's rescue, the fact that it's Locke in that coffin, and oh, you know, the Island MOVED. Not quite in the way that Krista imagined, but still. Where did it go? What does this mean for the people who were still on it? What happened to them that is "all Jack's fault"? We'll get those answers eventually, but for now, listen to us talk about everything that leads up to it.
Locke's special. Ben's bitter. Keamy is a monster. Horace has been dead for 12 years. The cabin is weird. But what we really want to know is: is Claire DEAD?
It's all about Jack this week. On the Island, he's having emergency surgery on the beach, which he attempts to stay awake for and in control of. Luckily, Juliet is the most rational person after Sayid, and she's having none of Jack's nonsense. In the flash-forward, we see that Jack and Kate are together and raising Aaron. But things aren't as happy as Jack wants to believe, especially after he gets a visit from his dead dad, and Kate fulfills a promise she made to Sawyer but won't tell Jack what it was. It looks like this is the beginning of the end not only for Jack and Kate, but for Jack's clean-shaven face because we know that beard is coming.
This one is a lot. We lose Alex and Nadia in the same episode, which has to be one of Krista's worst fears for the show. We see Ben do the unthinkable - summon the Smoke Monster - and the fracture of Locke's group when Claire's house is blown up, and Sawyer finally decides he's had enough of this shit. On the beach, Jack has a tummy ache, but he's more concerned with the fact that the doctor from the freighter has washed up on the beach with his throat slashed. And then Daniel lies, and is forced to tell the truth about saving the castaways. But instead of being sad, Krista takes some time to draw an AWESOME picture of what she thinks the time anomaly is with the Island. I've shared it in the Patrons-Only group for patrons, so if you want to see it, visit patreon.com/unspoiled and become a patron!
Michael's back! He confessed to Walt what he did to get them off the Island, which ruined his relationship with the kid, so now he just wants to die. But the Island isn't finished with him yet. Enter Ben Linus and his convoluted plans. Michael is the spy on Widmore's freighter, and after telling Sayid his tale, he is marched directly to the captain. On the Island, Ben sends Alex to something called The Temple, with Karl and Danielle. While they're on their way, though, Karl and Danielle are shot. Is this part of another one of Ben's plans? Or is Alex in trouble?
The show pulls a trick on us by making us think that Jin and Sun's flashforwards are part of the same thing, but no: Jin's is actually a flashback, and he didn't get off the Island. What does that mean? Is Jin dead?We also learn that the crew on the freighter are experiencing "cabin fever" and committing suicide. And Ben's spy is MICHAEL.
Juliet is the other woman in so many ways: the other woman in her relationship with Goodwin; in her flirtations with Jack; an Other woman;...and then there's what Ben thinks she is. We learn more about how Ben thinks she belongs to him, like a piece of property. It's gross, and he's the worst. Meanwhile, Locke learns more about the freighter, and whose it is. Was Krista's guess right? And what will Locke do with this information?
Here it is: the episode many of you have been waiting for. It was certainly the one that Krista was waiting for, since she finally got to learn why our show is named what it is. And the episode did not disappoint. We have strange consciousness time travel, a love story, and super weirdness with Desmond. We have new characters on the freighter in Minkowski (RIP), Keamy, and Omar. We have Daniel Faraday, past and present. And we're left with a couple new questions: who opened the door of the med-bay for our Losties? Was it the spy? Who IS the spy? What is going on on that freighter? What is going on with Daniel? Is Juliet the best ever? Stay tuned and maybe we'll find out!
We discuss Kate and the reveal that Aaron is one of the Oceanic Six in the episode with the stupidest title in the entire series. Did Kate kidnap Aaron? What happened to Claire? Is Krista right about Jack knowing that Aaron is his nephew, and that's why he doesn't want to see him? Back on the Island, Kate uses Sawyer to enact a pretty impressive con to get Miles to tell her what the outside world knows about her. Locke is less than pleased about Kate going against his wishes, and since he's a dictator now, he tells her she has to leave the barracks. Neither of us are very pleased with Locke right now.
On the Island, Sayid makes the choice to trade one human for another in order to get into Lapidus's helicopter and see what's happening on that boat. In the Flash Forward, he makes the choice to as an assassin FOR BEN, which ends with a bullet to the gut of another pretty blonde girl he's been sleeping with. Meanwhile, Daniel does an experiment where a rocket is sent from the boat to the Island, only it takes an extra 31 minutes to show up after the boat says it should have. Timey wimey wibbly wobbly...stuff.
And so we meet Daniel Faraday, a physicist seemingly with a good heart and good intentions; Miles Straume, a sarcastic man with the gift of talking to dead people; Charlotte Staples-Lewis, an archaeologist with some interest in the Dharma Initiative; and Frank Lapidus, a damn good pilot (when he's sober). They're here to rescue the survivors of Flight 815...but really they're here because of Ben Linus. Because OF COURSE it has to do with Ben.
Who are the Oceanic Six? Who is Matthew Abbadon? When will Jack actually listen to Kate? Why is Christian in The Cabin (aka Maggie's Cabin)? Why is Hurley seeing hot, dead Charlie? All these questions and more are asked as we cannonball into Season 4. Buckle in, guys. Things are about to set a precedent of weirdness.
It's the moment we've all been waiting for: WE HAVE TO GO BACK, KATE! WE HAVE TO GO BAAAAAAAAAAAACK! Oh, and Charlie dies.
Charlie reflects on the five best moments of his life - his greatest hits - and they're sweet, and moving, and tears may have been shed. As Sayid and Jack come up with a plan to get the castaways rescued by Naomi's boat, and to take out some Others in the process, Charlie and Desmond head for The Looking Glass station to stop the signal jammer...and fulfill a prophesy. I am not ok.
Frequent guest and fellow Unspoiled co-host Maggie joins us to discuss Ben. And Richard. Mostly Richard. But also that little lying liar Ben, who was NOT born on The Island, and is actually a murdering usurper. Was Krista satisfied now that she's gotten the Ben episode she's been asking for? Has Jaime gone back to not considering Kate her favorite? Will Jack ever shut the fuck up? Listen and see!
Ben tells Locke that he has to kill his father in order to really become One Of Them. Locke can't do it, but Richard gives him an alternative solution. So, Locke gets Sawyer to do his dirty work for him. No one is sad to see this piece of shit go. On the beach, our "campers" are tending to an injured Naomi and Charlie thinks they should get Jack to help because, well, he's a doctor. Desmond speaks for all of us in suggesting that Jack isn't so trustworthy of late, but there is another option: Sayid. Always choose Sayid, people! This leads to some minor interrogation between torturer and parachutist, and ends with her handing over her satellite phone. But then Kate is let in on the secret and immediately tells Jack what's up. Dammit, Kate!
We get more evidence that if Jin and Sun just talked to each other instead of always lying, they'd be much better off. We also get evidence that their baby is theirs, was conceived on the Island, and what that means for Sun and the baby.
Desmond has a flash of a parachutist, the wire into the ocean, and Charlie being speared in the throat, so he of course takes three unsuspecting companions on a "camping trip" to put all of these pieces together. They find the wire, they make their way through the jungle, Charlie escapes death, and a woman with a picture of Desmond and Penny tucked into her Portuguese copy of Catch-22 falls from the sky after bailing out of a crashing helicopter. Who's helicopter? And why does she know who Desmond is?Fair warning: we have spoilers in here for The Justice League, Game of Thrones seasons 6 and 7, and the most recent season of The Walking Dead. Oh, and I accidentally spoil Krista on something because I thought it happened in this episode. It's not a huge spoiler, don't worry. But also don't yell at me.
Jack says that Juliet is One of Us. Everyone else thinks she's One of Them. Juliet isn't saying either way, but we know she's on some secret mission dictated by Ben, who has manipulated her into staying on the Island for three years when she knew after six months that she wasn't any use to their fertility issues. So, who's right? Which side is Juliet really on?
