My guest this week is Sobriety Coach Rachael Shephard, mom of 2 young boys and author of  "Sober Mama" In this episode:- Early Drinking Years Rachael always drank to excess, experienced frequent blackouts, and never had an off-switch. Used to look forward to drinking like a child anticipates Christmas. The Turning Point By her late 30s, Rachel felt exhausted and sick and tired… of feeling sick and tired A boozy holiday made her realize she needed to stop—shaking in the morning was her wake-up call. The Role of Motherhood Drinking increased after having children—became a way to cope with stress. Once sober, found motherhood became easier, with more energy, patience, and connection. Challenges in Early Sobriety First few weeks involved sugar cravings, extreme fatigue, and boredom. Found a "pink cloud" of euphoria around two weeks, followed by a flat period of low motivation. I loved her story about struggling to find something that was “fun” in early sobriety – so she spent her time organizing and decluttering her home so that life would be easier when she began to feel better Mindset Shift Realized alcohol was the cause of her anxiety, not the cure. Rejected the “mommy juice” culture and recognized societal normalization of addiction. Sober Coaching & Writing I loved Rachael's sobriety timeline which she uses as a coaching framework. She has written a book called “Sober Mama” to centralize tools, stories, and support in one place. Advice for Others Suggests people try sobriety for just two weeks and take daily photos to see the transformation. In this episode Dan and Doug discuss the mysterious case of Jim Hysong Jr. He piloted a plane, taking off from Toledo, OH and was never seen from again. Despite rumors of a crash into Lake Michigan, other stories began to appear of the plane being spotted years later. Nobody really knows what happened and the mystery continues to this day. We continued our reading and discussion of the treatment and cures that the spiritual father must understand for every malady that afflicts a person in the spiritual life. He must understand not only how to apply them but also the manner they are applied to each individual person with their unique needs. No person is the same and in the spiritual battle the elder must understand the subtle manifestations of spiritual illness and the manner in which various cures might be applied. One of the most striking aspects of tonight's discussion was on the capacity of the elder to be free from and endure nausea and to be able to untiringly strive to dispel the stench of vomit. Of course, St. John is speaking about sin itself and the willingness of the elder to enter into the darkness in which the other person finds himself; to descend into their hell and to endure the stench of sin itself. The capacity to do this comes through engaging in the spiritual battle throughout the course of one's life and attending in obedience to the counsel of one's own spiritual father. The lack of nausea and the ability to endure the stench of the vomit of sin comes from having long been immersed in it through one's own struggles. Compassion is born in a powerful way through the experience of common trials.  Beyond this, St. John tells that the shepherd must experience blessed dispassion. In other words, he must be free of the passions that would blind him and his ability to discern the particular needs of those in his care. This discernment allows the elder to illuminate the path that leads to repentance and so gives him the capacity to “resurrect every dead soul”. This is the identity that every Christian soul should seek to embrace. While it's true that not everyone is called to be a spiritual elder, every Christian by virtue of their baptism is called to the holiness described here and given the responsibility for the care of souls in their midst. On this week's Book Club podcast we're celebrating the 100th anniversary of a landmark in children's publishing, When We Were Very Young — which represented the first collaboration between A A Milne and E H Shepard, who would (of course) go on to write an illustrate Winnie-the-Pooh. Sam Leith is joined by James Campbell, who runs the E H Shepard estate. He tells Sam how the war shaped the mood and success of that first book, why Daphne Milne's snobbery and ambition left Shepard out in the cold, what happened to Christopher Robin... and how Pooh became Pooh. 

Building your faith and getting to know who God is, is key to peace in your life through the journey of entrepreneurship. If you want to hear God's voice as you slow down and seek Him first in your business it begins with knowing WHO He is. He says, "my sheep hear my voice." We have to surrender and submit (a bad word these days) to Him being our Shephard in order to hear His voice. We also need to get to know Him. How can we trust Him if we don't actually know Him?  I challenge you to carve 15 minutes out of your day to spend time in prayer and in His word. I know it's hard, but the email funnels, content creation, meal prep, social media marketing, financial planning, and customer service will wait. There is Grace even in time.
