Each Tuesday, we discuss an older entertainment property, and currently, that's Lost. This week, it's Mr. Eko's turn for flashbacks telling his complicated and violent backstory, while he and Charlie search the jungle for the wreckage of the Beechcraft plane. The Smoke Monster returns and so do the computer messages from Walt (or someone claiming to be Walt).Next Tuesday, we'll continue with season 2, episode 11, "The Hunting Party." Tomorrow, we're back with our sitcom, A Man on the Inside.

Here we are! The final season of Lost where we somehow find out there's another POV change besides flashback and flashforward. After an inconsistent season 5, Eric and Daniel are both very intrigued by where this final season can go. They ponder the implications of the Smoke Monster and Ash circles, and Daniel may or may not be gaslighting Eric about something he said with respect the future Kate episodes. We'll find out next week!If you enjoyed the show, please leave us a review wherever you listen to it! If you go on a first date, do you have a plan in place to escape it? Plus Battle of the Burbs, new music Friday, and we solve the mystery of the white smoke monster in downtown Cleveland!

This week as Eric and Daniel continue season 5, they enter what feels like eerie territory as what appears to be a scene from Dexter involving a supermarket and a blond child infiltrates their Lost season. While a Kate Episode tries to bring them down, the dynamic between Locke and Ben continues to be riveting, as we get another close look a the Smoke Monster and have to wonder, what's this things deal?!? Right now – if, all of a sudden, this opening introduction was interrupted by — hey! Look! It’s THE SMOKE MONSTER! Ok, he’s gone, but wasn’t that crazy and sort of ironic given we have a previous relationship with him so it makes sense, but ultimately is more of a meta commentary than an actual one about the contents of the show and the surprise of a guest who didn’t even get a word in.. or, in that instance, a chain rattling? So, since that happened – why don’t you settle in with Hatton and Rob as we discuss our favorite cameos in film — ROBERT DeNERO!? What are YOU doing here? Oh, Bob.. that scamp… Ok, here we OHHH IT’S PERD HAPLEY! Full Episode

Bob Buel from 99 Questions fame joins me to discuss the mysteries and the lore of the infamous T.V. Show Lost. My few take aways: Science vs Faith is an interesting topic to explore for a show. This week on Fringe, we're going through another big chunk of season one. We reminisce a bit on the benefits of a weekly schedule vs. binging, and how a "see what sticks" mentality can lead to awesome, discussable benefits but also frustrating dead ends. Back in the Fringe universe, we get Fringe's first really great overarching plotty episode in Ability, which explores Olivia's past (and implied future!). We also get a bit more Observer content, and we say a not-so-fond farewell to JOHN SCOTT. Cheers!

In the grand finale of our exploration of Lost, co-creator and executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producer Carlton Cuse sit down with co-hosts Mo Ryan and Tara Bennett to go back. As a couple of the first 'celebrity' showrunners, they candidly talk about the demands of writing a massive global hit, the reception of the last season, and how the show changed them as writers/showrunners of their subsequent series: The Leftovers, Watchmen, Colony and Jack Ryan.
What is the responsibility of creator/writers with pleasing fans, and is it possible to do so with a high-concept genre series? We discuss this and many more Lost writing-centric topics with the VIPs of the writers' room: Drew Goddard and Liz Sarnoff. Both have gone on to write and executive produce for contemporary classics such as The Good Place and Barry, respectively. Join us as they discuss the impact Lost has had on their careers.
Lost embraced and encouraged its rabid fan base with an onslaught of creative viral marketing, from ARG games like HansoExposed, and Lost University, to showrunner podcasts and copious exclusive DVD features. Overseas, Sky1 even had an after show, The Lost Initiative. Lost changed fan engagement forever so, co-hosts Tara Bennett and Mo Ryan welcome former ABC transmedia innovators, John Bernstein and David J. Daniels, and Editor of the Official Lost Magazine and co-host of The Lost Initiative, Paul Terry, to dig into it all.
In this episode, Milwaukee comedian Tyler Menz joined the crew for some improv fun. Four OSHA inspectors -- a priest with two days to retire, a sentient fruitcake, a bored valley girl, and a hobo with a shotgun -- raid the Taco Bell Test Kitchen. They are suddenly warped to the kitchen's secret toilet factory where they have to battle Martha Stewart and "Snoop" the Smoke Monster. Watch and interact with the players in our weekly Twitch stream and enjoy live music, laughs, and crazy RPG character personas.
Remember all the Lost wannabes, with big mythologies that were front-loaded and usually kinda lame? Co-hosts Mo Ryan and Tara Bennett welcome EW's Sarah Rodman as they parse out why those shows did NOT work and what shows are the true successors to Lost. They'll debate why broadcast networks never really cracked the code of re-creating Lost with a slightly different cast/premise, but what shows did learn the right lessons and followed in its (four-toed) footsteps.
Co-hosts Tara Bennett and Mo Ryan sit down with Finding Lost author, Nikki Stafford, for an insightful look at how Lost took fan engagement to a new level. They discuss how they each interacted with fandom back in the day, the history of Lost's official fandom board, The Fuselage, and how from there, the show's speculation/theory culture spun out to new heights. From blogger recaps to journalist mega theories, Lostpedia’s fan community, spoiler culture, and the evolution of toxic fan culture, this episode tackles it all.
Hosts Tara Bennett and Maureen Ryan kick off the limited series with their first guest, Melanie McFarland, TV Critic for Salon.com, to discuss "How Lost Changed TV". Together, they cover their first impressions of Lost and the unique elements of the series: its structure, serialized elements, genre elements, shorter TV seasons now because Lost negotiated its ending, the development of flagship showrunners, the advent of spoiler culture and fandom culture outside of niche shows, the tip up of toxic fan culture, the controversy of the ending, and shows inspired by Lost.
SYFY WIRE presents a six-part retrospective on the TV show Lost hosted by SYFY WIRE's Senior Producer, Tara Bennett, and renowned TV critic, Maureen Ryan. Fifteen-years ago, Lost changed the television landscape and its impact is still influencing what we watch today. For this podcast series, we're not recapping episodes. Instead, we're exploring how Lost influenced high-concept, serialized storytelling, opened the door for shorter U.S. seasons, created a transmedia landscape that fed water-cooler TV, ushered in a new era of fan engagement, and went on to populate the next generation of showrunners and landmark television series. Subscribe now and don't miss an episode.

For the last of our Year Six celebrations, we are going back…. but this time, to the end. That’s right, the Somethings are back and they are flying on an Oceanic Flight with the last episode of the show that started a thousand arguments… Lost. But we’re not going alone, oh no no no, if we’re going to face the Smoke Monster and the strange purgatory-not-purgatory spiritual-not-spiritual culmination of the ‘is it faith or is it science or is it Memorex’ island… we got long time show friends Rick & Sarah of AwesomeTalk TV. So after you’re done here, go see their newest episode over on YouTube! But right now.. settle in.. it’s one more number in the Valenzetti Equation.. it’s … The End: Lost. Full Episode

Some big answers are given on this week's episode, namely, how does Locke get off the Island and how do the Oceanic Six make it back to the Island? LOST delves into some fan service but showing us the halcyon days of Rousseau on the Island, including filling in the gaps on some of the stories she's told in previous seasons, and another appearance from the Smoke Monster. To help you out, Ben has helped establish a small timeline of events to put things into context. One of these two episodes provides what the hosts feel is the best quote in the show's history, and a Top 10 overall episode to boot.

You know those friends who know exactly what to watch and never steer you wrong? The friend who had an actual Smoke Monster terrorize guests during LOST watch parties? That other friend who does 7,000-word recaps of The Bachelor? These are (literally) those kinds of friends: Knox McCoy and Jamie Golden! Knox and Jamie are the hosts of The Popcast, a delightful show that, in Knox and Jamie’s words, “educates us on the things that entertain but do not matter.” Today, these pop culture partners-in-crime wrap up For the Love of TV and give us a gazillion shows we need to binge-watch: comedies, dramas, nuggets from TV shows past, their all-time favorites. Plus, they give us some tips on what not to watch with your family at the holidays (your grandma is thanking us already). This conversation will have you rolling, as will Knox’s debut book, The Wondering Years: How Pop Culture Helped Me Answer Life’s Biggest Questions. We even break out a little TV geek and talk about why there’s (finally!) so much diversity onscreen and what the future of entertainment holds.
You better BEE-lieve we've got a dark one for you today. What will Barry Benson (Bee Movie) and Buzzbee (Honey Nut Cheerios) make something sweet? Or will it end in syrupy tears? Plus, will the ladies man Ichabod Crane be a new source of love for Marge Simpson? And what evil will the guys ship with the Smoke Monster? Tune in to find out!
This week, yet another ho-hum Kate flashback is balanced out with an incredible Juliet flashback. Juliet is the stand-out of both of this week's episodes, where we learn she may not be as sweet as she puts on with Jack. Plus: more with The Smoke Monster, a theory about Ethan, and discussion of the Barracks.
This one is a lot. We lose Alex and Nadia in the same episode, which has to be one of Krista's worst fears for the show. We see Ben do the unthinkable - summon the Smoke Monster - and the fracture of Locke's group when Claire's house is blown up, and Sawyer finally decides he's had enough of this shit. On the beach, Jack has a tummy ache, but he's more concerned with the fact that the doctor from the freighter has washed up on the beach with his throat slashed. And then Daniel lies, and is forced to tell the truth about saving the castaways. But instead of being sad, Krista takes some time to draw an AWESOME picture of what she thinks the time anomaly is with the Island. I've shared it in the Patrons-Only group for patrons, so if you want to see it, visit patreon.com/unspoiled and become a patron!
LAST EPISODE OF SEASON 1! Susana is the happiest she has ever been on this podcast. We finally meet THE SMOKE MONSTER, FOR REALLY REAL. Locke has a buttload of Island Faith, Sayid explodes a small part of Charlie’s head, and we get the beginning of the long and arduous journey of Science Vs Faith conversations between Locke and Jack. Meanwhile on the ocean, things on the raft go suddenly HORRIBLY AWRY. As for us, Rachel makes a good bird sound and likes it when people are friends, Susana makes some amazing puns, and Phil finally gets to make his Team Dyno joke. We also do a pretty good recap of what the show Lost is about thusfar. Susana still does not like Lost, and is not looking forward to Season 2. But the rest of us are! We’ll be on a hiatus for the month of August, but we will be back with Season 2 on September 6th, 2017!
It's a Mr. Eko episode, and it did not disappoint! Krista sort of gets an answer to whether or not Eko is a priest, and we find out that the plane that killed Boone also killed Eko's brother Yemi. Oh, and we get a really good look at the Smoke Monster. WHAT IS IT?
Believe it This week Rachael Dan and Chris get their ninja on and take a look back at the phenomena that is the Naruto franchise Before that though weve got our regular news update 002 which this week includes new trailers for Pixars Coco Aardmans Early Man and the first footage from Tomm Moores Wolfwalkers and the news of Darkmouth signing its directors Then we tool up to take on Naruto in our main topic 045
This week we are joined by fellow Unspoiled Podcaster Maggie to discuss the crazy season 1 finale. We changed up the format a bit and forego the scene-by-scene analysis since the finale was two hours long. We have a lot of thoughts about the Rafties, why Sayid should be the leader, Jack making decisions for Kate, Locke’s crazy faith, and what the hell the Smoke Monster is!

Should TV shows and movies with mysteries at their hearts reveal their answers or is it better to let the top spin? What's the right balance in making your audience wonder and making your audience gasp at the answers? Geoff and I will consider these questions with Lost, Agatha Christie and Inception in tow. Plus, Geoff offers a 4-layer dip for categorizing mysterious stories. We'll call it the Oldboy Upstream Color Spectrum until someone else comes up with a better name. The bigger question on the show this week is whether we want the things we think we want. With new episodes of The X-Files coming soon, and so much geek culture co-opted, repackaged and dumped on our doorsteps, it's starting to seem like the disappointments outweigh the anticipation. Our big finish is a conversation with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the filmmakers behind the romance-horror Spring, where a misguided old monster and a misguided young monster help each other while falling in love. It's as if Linklater and Cronenberg had a baby (with dragon wings and squid arms). You should follow the show (@brokenprojector), Geoff (@drgmlatulippe) and Scott (@scottmbeggs) on Twitter for more on a daily basis.
Thank you for catching this transmission of Central City Underground! We apologize to The Rising Tide for hijacking over their hijack, but some things just can't be helped. (Raise your hand if you were thinking Smoke Monster when The Mist transformed. Eh?) Kyle Nimbus, a.k.a. The Mist, becomes the first of potentially MANY villains to be locked away in the particle accelerator at S.T.A.R. Labs. Hmm. How do we feel about this? Read more... The most sacred day of the fae calendar serves as the jumping off point for this episode that sees Bo put her life on the line to save a light fae who has wrongly accused his dark fae brother of a crime he didn't commit. Reveals abound as we learn the identity of the Blood King and find out that Bo's mother's return is something to be feared. Wayne and Dave discuss monsters including Godzilla, The Weeping Angels, and The Smoke Monster.
