Today we cover one of the most anticipated and one of the best LOST episodes: the first flashback of Richard Alpert. Ben and Kevin discuss why they love this episode, some of the show questions that are answered, and the state of the LOST fandom at this time. Ben also discusses the history of Richard Alpert to this point, and some of the Stephen King influence on the show. Following this, we discover just how Jin got in the clutches of Martin Keamy's hands in the flash sideways, and the reveal of exactly what is Charles Widmore's package.

Raise your hands if you thought the titular package was DESMOND. Well, I didn't but Krista suspected. And, while we don't get a lot of Mr. Hume in this episode, we do get a flash sideways about Jin and Sun and how they're not married but definitely into each other, which is nice. Not so nice is Martin Keamy, or Mikhail, who no one was hoping to see again. On the Island, we get a little more of Charles Widmore, which leads to a lot of discussion about his motivations and what the hell he's planning on doing with or to Desmond. At the beach, Sun runs face first into a tree to get away from the LockeMonster, and loses her ability to speak English. It doesn't stop her from speaking her mind though, even if no one can understand what she's saying.

As we learn this week, the history between Ben Linus and Charles Widmore is tumultuous and complex. We learn about their past, as well as witness Ben go on a journey to be judged by the Island for forgiveness now that he has returned in a performance so well done it earned Michael Emerson an Emmy. We finally get our first flashback of our Freighter folks with Miles, learning about his connection to the Island, his gift of "communicating" with the Dead, and his own set of Daddy issues. We also discover there may be more to the other Ajira 316 passengers than we thought. Two great episodes this week as we get closer to the Season 5 finale!

It's another Juliet episode, and at this point Syl thinks we've seen most of the Juliet episode (thanks, RNG). Turns out the Other camp also has love triangles, according to the flashbacks. On contemporary island time, Daniel and Charlotte have disappeared from the beach and beach crew thinks they are Up to Something. For some reason, Locke and others have occupied Other Village and Ben/Henry reveals they have a common enemy: Charles Widmore aka the Man Who Owns the Boat. As the Island gang continues to travel through time, a lot is learned about the history of the Island and Charles Widmore's relationship to it as they end up in 1954 where a hydrogen bomb threatens the Island's current inhabitants. Locke also thinks of a plan that could put an end up to the spontaneous flashes through time. Off the Island, Desmond is on the hunt for Daniel Faraday's mother, and Ben Linus gets closer to bringing the Oceanic Six together. Ben has a theory as to why he may have some issues with Season 5, and why he wasn't so surprised to see a presumed to be dead character return. A mixed bag of episodes this week, but a lot to discuss!

Before Season 4 began to air, the Writers Guild of America went on strike. Kevin and Ben reminisce about this period, the incredible foresight the writers and producers of the show had, the support of the producers and cast, and how it affected LOST for the rest of the shows duration. Desmond goes on his quest to find Faraday's mother, which doesn't turn out to be as easy as he expected. What he does find leads him to Charles Widmore. Speaking of, it turns out that jackass Jones from last week's episode is actually young Mr. Widmore himself. Guess we know why he wants to find the Island so badly. Also, there's a hydrogen bomb, but Daniel isn't too worried about it since the Island still exists fallout free in fifty years.

In "The Shape of Things to Come" we see a flashforward of Ben Linus off the island in Tunisia, in Iraq helping Sayid take vengeance on the man responsible for Nadia's death, and then sneaking in to Charles Widmore's apartment to threaten the life of Penny. In "The Shape of Things to Come" we see a flashforward of Ben Linus off the island in Tunisia, in Iraq helping Sayid take vengeance on the man responsible for Nadia's death, and then sneaking in to Charles Widmore's apartment to threaten the life of Penny. On the island, the mercenaries attach the DHARMA cabins where Ben Linus is hiding. When Ben refuses to surrender to them, Alex is killed. In "Something Nice Back Home" we see a flashforward of Jack and Kate living together and getting engaged. Jack is also told by Hurley that he is not supposed to raise him.
