Diplomacy Games
Wrap up of WDC 2026 in Athens

Diplomacy Games

Gavin landed back in Australia just the day before recording, and he and Ken settle in for a full debrief on WDC 2026 in Athens. From the venues and the social activities to all four of Gavin's games and the top board, this one covers it all. Intro Ken sets up the episode – this one is going to be almost entirely about WDC 2026 Athens, because Gavin was there and has only just landed back in Australia (as at the time of recording) (15 secs) He notes the DBN coverage gave a strong account of the boards and Ed's player interviews, but plenty of the magic from Spyros Dovas and his organising team didn't make it to the stream (45 secs) Drinks are introduced: Ken is on one of his home-brew lagers with a kick, and Gavin is working through a leftover Sicilian Nero d'Avola that has turned a little sour – a fitting metaphor, he suggests, for how his first round went (1 min 45 secs) The tournament in aggregate Ken asks Gavin to give a broad overview – location, numbers, facilities, atmosphere (2 mins 45 secs) Around 106 players registered, though some didn't show due to last-minute issues. Approximately 5 Australian players couldn't attend because their original flights were routed through the Middle East (3 mins 30 secs) The geopolitical context: as of recording, the Middle East airspace situation was in week nine of its shutdown, forcing Australian travellers to reroute via Singapore, Hong Kong, or Malaysia. Some also baulked at the US transit option due to the documentation requirements (4 mins 30 secs) Despite the drop-outs, the turnout was excellent and genuinely representative – a heavy European component split between the UK and the rest of Europe, a strong French contingent, players from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Norway, a good number of Americans and a couple of Canadians (including Chris Brand), around 10 Australians, and a couple of Kiwis (Dominick Stephens and Craig Purcell). The local Greek contingent, given the Athens club had only been running for about 18 months, was especially impressive (3 mins 30 secs) Tournament format: three regular rounds followed by a fourth round of tiered top boards. Rather than a single top board, the format featured seven simultaneous top boards – the top 7 players went to the premier board, players 8–14 played the second tier, 15–21 the third, and so on down through the field. Crucially, players who volunteered to sit out for round four to help with numbers kept their ranking position (7 mins) Ken and Gavin discuss how the tiered format means the fourth round is never a dead rubber – every board is still competing for something meaningful (8 mins 15 secs) Discussion of the central clock arrangement: effectively federation-based rather than a literal single clock, with the two main venues coordinating their start times by communication (9 mins 30 secs) The venues The main venue was the upstairs function space of a beachside restaurant operation – excellent location right on the waterfront, but somewhat cramped for negotiations once all the boards were in (9 mins 45 secs) As a result, boards were redistributed to the secondary venue: the Anchor bar, about 150–200 metres down the road. Gavin played two games in each location and considered the Anchor the better play space – more open, well ventilated, and with a large covered outdoor area next to a (drained) pool (11 mins) The colour-coded sash system made it easy to identify players by country but created the amusing challenge of locating your specific Italy in a room full of Italys from different boards (13 mins) The third venue – an outdoor shaded area – was reserved for the premier top board. Unlike Milan's car park, this one had good shade and plenty of room for spectators around the giant shadow board (13 mins 30 secs) Pre-tournament social activities Gavin outlines the structure: you could do as much or as little as you liked. He landed well due to a useful 5.5-hour Singapore layover that helped reset his body clock, and flew over on the same flight as tournament director Jamal Blakkarly (16 mins) They were met at Athens airport by Spyros, his wife, and daughter, who drove them to breakfast at a beautiful harbour-side restaurant in one of the small inlet bays east of Piraeus (18 mins 15 secs) Pre-tournament island stay: Gavin spent two days on Serifos, the island Spyros recommended and which has personal significance to his family (his grandfather was christened there). Spyros provided a detailed Google Map of the best spots. With the tourist season barely starting, Gavin got excellent last-minute accommodation at a family-run hotel and had the beaches almost entirely to himself (18 mins 45 secs) The island was so off-season that locals were literally still painting their furniture and kerbs in preparation. Gavin did the recommended hikes and swims, and the hotel gifted him a dry-bag left behind by a previous guest (20 mins 30 secs) Back in Athens overnight, Gavin caught up with a multinational squad of players including Shane, Brandon, Max, Zoe, Justin Law, Bradley Grace, and Karthik. They had dinner at an Italian restaurant with the Acropolis lit up above them (22 mins 30 secs) Hydra day trip (Wednesday): players caught the fast ferry from Piraeus out to Hydra (about 1.5 hrs). The island has a refined Venetian-Greek port feel, with rustic paths and rock beaches beyond. The group visited the Museum of the 1821 Greek Revolution, full of local history and artefacts. Gavin wore one of his Diplomacy shirts and ended up being an ambassador for the hobby to an American grandmother and her debate-champion granddaughter from North Carolina – and pointed them towards David Hood and the local hobby there (24 mins 15 secs) The water temperature at the beach was about 4–5 degrees colder than Australia, which meant the Europeans loved it and Gavin did not go in (26 mins 30 secs) Acropolis and Athens tour (Thursday): guided tour of the Acropolis by what Spyros described as the best guides operating there, followed by a walk through the Plaka and past the Panathenaic Stadium (venue of the first modern Olympics in 1896), then a seafood lunch at a beautiful harbourside restaurant (30 mins) Temple of Poseidon (Thursday evening): the most popular activity – the bus was packed. About halfway there, Spyros took everyone on an unannounced detour to a beach bar where they had the place to themselves, a wonderful surprise. The Temple itself sits on a peninsula with 270-degree sea views. Spyros told the story of how the Aegean got its name from that location, and a huge group photo was taken (31 mins 15 secs) Tournament production values Gavin describes the production as setting new high-water marks for tournament organisation – high enough that the Chicago 2027 organising team would be wondering how to match it. Every player had a colour-coded sash matching their country, a branded WDC Athens notepad in their country colour, and a matching pen for every round (33 mins) The awards were 3D-printed Greek god statues for the podium finishers, complemented by a full suite of themed awards for the top players in each country and for notable gameplay (34 min) Special awards included: the Ajax Award for 8th place overall (the brilliant fighter who just missed out); the Archimedes Award for the most innovative play; the Leonidas Award for the player who fought on against insurmountable odds; and professionally screen-printed awards for best performance as each of the seven Great Powers (35 mins 45 secs) Gavin's games Round 1 – France – Board: Agkystri (View game) Gavin introduces his first game and the board composition: he played France, with Danae Stamataki (Austria-Hungary, local Greek player who topped the board on 10 supply centres and won best Austria), Sabrina Ahuja "Sabi" as England, Brian Ecton as Germany, Jean-Louis Delattre as Italy, Teo Ananiadis as Russia, and Frank Oosterom from the Netherlands as Turkey (37 mins 15 secs) The plan was a Western Triple working with England and Germany, with the goal of neutralising a strong-looking Italy early. It didn't come together as intended (37 mins 45 secs) The infamous mis-order: Gavin had two builds and intended fleet Brest plus a second build. Instead he built fleet Brest and placed the build directly in MAO, effectively waiving his second build. The DBN commentators interpreted this as a genius strategic waive; Ken's interpretation was somewhat more grounded. Gavin confirms Ken was correct (39 mins) The other players on the board didn't share DBN's generous reading of the situation. Germany immediately moved into Burgundy and kept flipping between fronts as his position allowed. Italy kept pressing France throughout. Gavin found himself squeezed down to a single unit in the English Channel (40 mins 30 secs) Final turn plan: England agreed to convoy an army across to Picardy to support Gavin back into Brest. Instead, Sabi walked into an open Paris. Gavin ended the game with zero supply centres and was eliminated (42 mins 15 secs) Gavin notes he made his disappointment known professionally, and that he subsequently had a drink with Sabi – but not that night (44 mins 15 secs) Round 2 – England – Board: Lemnos Not covered by DBN. Gavin played England; the board included Dominick Stephens (New Zealand) as Germany, Chris Brand (Canada) as Russia, Ruben Sanchez as Italy, Roberto Perego (Italy) as France, Robert Schuppe as Turkey, and Anastasia "Nastja" Styles as Austria-Hungary (46 mins) The plan was a Northern Alliance of England, Germany, and Russia. It unravelled immediately when Chris opened Moscow to Livonia and Dominick interpreted it as aggressive – resulting in a Germany-Russia war from the outset (46 mins 15 secs) Gavin adapted: knowing Germany was occupied in the east, he gave Russia some space and opened into Belgium, with Dominick and Chris both honouring his request to take Norway unopposed via fleet (46 mins 45 secs) Dominick and Gavin worked to grind down Roberto Perego's France, who ground out a hard-fought game staying alive on 2 centres. Ruben Sanchez's Italy played a deft game, flipping between alliances with Turkey and Austria (49 mins 15 secs) Dominick topped the board on 10; Ruben came in at 9; Gavin finished at 7. The game was meant to run to 1909 but drew earlier when the position stabilised. Gavin reflects he may have drawn too early, with both Dominick and Ruben suggesting he had room to push for another two centres (50 mins) Round 3 – Germany – Board: Symi (View game) Gavin played Germany. The board included Shane Armstrong (Australia) as France, Mikalis Kamaritis as Italy, Alex Maslow (USA) as Russia, Steven Hogue (USA) as Austria, Alex Lebedev (Russia) as England, and Jack Johns as Turkey (51 mins 15 secs) The strategic context: only Mikalis Kamaritis and Alex Lebedev were realistically in contention for the top board from this game. Shane and Gavin identified this early and committed to supporting the player they believed deserved to be there (52 mins 45 secs) Shane and Gavin opened with a Sealion against England, while Gavin also walked a careful line with Alex Lebedev, who initially felt more threatened by France than Germany. Austria was eliminated in 1903, and England in 1904 (53 mins 45 secs) A notable moment: Gavin slipped an army from the North Sea into an unoccupied London – a move he acknowledged was unnecessary, created friction with Alex Lebedev, and which he would not make again. He apologised on the day (56 mins 15 secs) Mikalis told Gavin and Shane to wait until 1905 – and delivered. He launched from his eastern position, took two dots off Russia and one off Turkey in a single year, then steamrolled from there. Alex Maslow was a strong and enjoyable player who nearly flipped the alliance but ultimately couldn't (56 mins 15 secs) The game agreed to a draw of 10-10-14 (Shane-Gavin-Mikalis), which the three felt would get Mikalis comfortably onto the top board. In the final adjudication Mikalis took one extra dot away from Shane, making the final scores 15-10-9 (58 mins 15 secs) Round 4 – Austria – Board: Myconos (View game) Gavin made it onto the fourth round, placed into the 6th top board. The board featured Shane Armstrong again as Turkey, Emmett Wainwright as England, Patrick Jacobson as France, Nathan Lester as Germany, Cameron Taylor as Italy, and Richard Bolton as Russia (59 mins 30 secs) The standout introduction: Nathan Lester, son of Dan Lester (who Gavin played against at Bangkok WDC). Same voice, same playing style, same persuasive meta-game arguments – but with a mullet and dressed like he's in an 80s rock video, and without the beard-stroking (1 hr 0 mins 45 secs) Gavin and Shane, having just played together in Round 3, ended up as Austria and Turkey respectively – not a natural alliance. Gavin didn't trust it but it held. Italy and France both kept fighting hard throughout (59 mins 45 secs) The game drew in 1906, with Shane and Emmett both finishing on 8, Gavin on 6 as Austria. Everyone then rushed across the road to watch the top board (1 hr 3 mins 45 secs) The top board Ken asks about Mikalis's diplomatic style. Gavin: exceptional situational awareness, communicates clearly and directly, asked and answered the "what do you want from this game?" question in a way that built immediate trust, and was good to his word on timing (1 hr 4 mins) Gavin arrived at the top board mid-1906 (his own game had just drawn). The top board was played outdoors under a well-shaded tree with plenty of room for negotiations, guarded by two or three people ensuring other players and passing members of the public couldn't crowd the board (1 hr 5 mins) The giant shadow board: a massive life-size replica board was set up nearby so all spectators could follow the game without approaching the real board. Andrew Goff read out the orders and the shadow board was updated after each adjudication – the same setup used at Milan WDC (1 hr 7 mins 45 secs) When Gavin arrived, he felt Bradley Grace had the game. The shift came late – Mikalis made a decisive move in the endgame that separated him from a closely matched France/Germany contest (1 hr 9 mins) Congratulations to Mikalis Kamaritis – well deserved, Gavin says. And to Bradley Grace: so close, but it will happen (1 hr 9 mins) The awards ceremony included Mikalis receiving both the championship belt and a traditional olive laurel wreath – a detail that was not captured in the DBN stream. Ken flags this as something future broadcasts should consider covering (1 hr 11 mins 15 secs) A Best Shane Cubis Award was also created – won by a Greek player who loudly lobbied Spyros for an award on the basis of how much he'd helped out. An AI-generated image of Shane Cubis in 1901 attire featured on the award, to the complete bafflement of the European and American contingents (1 hr 12 mins 50 secs) Game hobby and future WDCs The Chicago Windy City Weasels delivered a presentation promoting WDC 2027, enthusiastically received by the assembled players (1 hr 13 mins 15 secs) The 2028 bid: Melbourne was the only bid, and it was unanimously approved. Andrew Goff (Goffy) presented it. WDC 2028 Melbourne will be held at the MCG – the Melbourne Cricket Ground – with the conference rooms used for regular play, and the premier top board played on the MCG wicket itself. The countdown timer will run on the MCG scoreboard. Notionally scheduled for the last weekend of February 2028 – the weekend after the Formula One Grand Prix and the weekend before the first AFL round (1 hr 14 mins 30 secs) For international context: roughly equivalent to playing at Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden, the Camp Nou, or Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. English players will recognise the MCG as where English cricket hopes traditionally come to die (1 hr 15 mins 15 secs) Also at the game hobby: a unanimous vote to amend and modernise the WDC charter, which dates from around 2000–2001 and doesn't reflect current online play, email communication, or the organisational structures of the Asia-Pacific and European hobbies. Four representatives (from NADF, the Asia-Pacific Diplomacy Association, and the European and UK hobbies) will draft amendments to be presented at WDC 2027 Chicago, with ratification at WDC 2028 Melbourne (1 hr 18 mins) Wrap up Gavin acknowledges the full organising effort: approximately 10 people working behind the scenes alongside Spyros and Jamal to make everything run. The Greek hobby and Athens Diplomacy Club can be enormously proud (1 hr 20 mins 30 secs) The Armistice Party: held between rounds three and four in the venue near the pool area. A DJ with a custom app allowed all attending players to nominate up to 10 songs each, with the crowd then voting in real time from four options for what came next. Gavin describes it as stunningly well thought through (1 hr 22 mins) Ken summarises: meticulously planned, wonderful venue, brilliant location, great games, fantastic people. Gavin: you got it in one. Thank you to Spyros, Jamal, and everyone they played with (1 hr 23 mins) Addendum – recorded one week later Ken and Gavin explain the addendum: a few things were either forgotten or lost in the original recording, so they've caught up a week later to cover them (1 hr 25 mins 45 secs) The Cane Toad The Cane Toad tournament will not run in 2026 – Gavin has made the decision to rest it for the year and bring it back bigger and better in 2027 (1 hr 26 mins 30 secs) Reasons: Gavin no longer lives in Brisbane where the tournament has historically been based, and several attempts to get a local game going have been completely unsuccessful. He feels it would be unfair to interstate players to travel to Queensland only to play mostly other interstate players rather than a meaningful proportion of locals (1 hr 27 mins 30 secs) He also flags cost-of-living pressures and fuel costs as factors, noting that the fuel excise which had been removed is about to be reinstated (1 hr 28 mins 45 secs) Ken and Gavin have a brief riff on whether cane toads actually hibernate, and whether the tournament might one day move to a different Queensland location (1 hr 28 mins 45 secs) Gavin shares a long-held dream of running the Cane Toad on the beach under a sun-safe setup. Council regulations require public liability insurance – but the Asia Pacific Diplomacy Association is in the process of organising exactly that for tournament directors, which may open the door in future (1 hr 29 mins 15 secs) Tournament news The Sydney Cup is on the weekend of 4–5 July. Gavin would love to go but has used up his diplomacy credits between Greece and starting a new job – it'll have to stay in the bank for now (1 hr 30 mins 45 secs) A New Zealand tournament is being discussed for the week before WDC 2028 Melbourne (late February 2028). Three New Zealand players who attended WDC 2026 in Athens have flagged interest in hosting something, on the logic that if you're travelling all the way from Europe or the US, a short hop across the Tasman to New Zealand is well worth building into the itinerary (1 hr 32 mins) Ken enthusiastically endorses the idea and encourages anyone planning for WDC 2028 Melbourne to factor in a week in New Zealand beforehand (1 hr 33 mins 30 secs) Challenge for next episode Over his birthday lunch, Gavin's son surprised him with an accurate recall of his WDC result. This leads Gavin to issue a challenge for the next episode: both Ken and Gavin will do some homework and come back with three or four online diplomacy resources that people may not know about, to raise awareness of what the community has put together over the years (1 hr 34 mins 45 secs) Around the grounds VDiplomacy gets an introduction for any listeners who aren't familiar: a sibling platform to WebDiplomacy, it hosts classic games but is particularly known for its range of variants (1 hr 36 mins 30 secs) The Dionysus Reimagined game recap – the ancient Greece variant Ken and Gavin set up in the lead-up to WDC Athens. Ken soloed, eliminating Gavin in the final year. Gavin notes that technically his last dot was taken so late that his result registers as a survive rather than an elimination (1 hr 38 mins 45 secs) Gavin played Athens and found himself defending on all fronts from early on: Sparta (who built only armies and had nowhere to go but north), the Macedonians pressing from the north, Byzantium late in the game, and Rhodes. Ken played Byzantium and credits his early token luck as a key advantage, picking up all his bid supply centres including one he expected to bounce – giving him fleet dominance in the Aegean from the start (1 hr 40 mins) The bid mechanics are recapped for any listeners unfamiliar with the variant: each player has 4 tokens to bid on non-core supply centres; outbid or bounce and you don't get the build. Ken's fortunate opening bids gave him a decisive early position (1 hr 40 mins 30 secs) A practical tip for vDiplomacy players: always open the large map after adjudication. The small map can omit orders that didn't go through, making moves look different from what was actually played. Ken noted several instances in the Dionysus game where support orders that failed simply weren't visible on the small map (1 hr 45 mins 45 secs) Ken congratulates himself on the win and notes the ratings gap between the two has now closed to around 100 points (1 hr 47 mins 30 secs) New game announced: Gavin has set up a Pirates game titled Ahoy Mateys on vDiplomacy. Gunboat, 2-day 2-hour phase length. Ken explains the extra 2 hours: it gradually shifts the adjudication time back toward Australian time zones in games where everyone readies up early (1 hr 48 mins) Pirates variant overview: a 13-player variant set in the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean, created by Gavin in collaboration with Ollie (the vDiplomacy site administrator). The 13 players are broken into three factions (1 hr 51 mins 45 secs): Europeans – Spain, England, France, and Holland, who nominally control supply centres across the map but must capture them to make them count Pirates – five pirates, four historical (Montbas, Brasiliano, de la Cueva, and Johnson) and one fictitious: El Guapo, borrowed from the movie The Three Amigos Privateers – one per European power, operating as private navies with letters patent. They can attack anyone except their sponsoring power (and vice versa). The Dunkirkers serve Spain, Henry Morgan serves England, François Le Jones serves France, and the Rocherson serves Holland Unit rules: all units are fleets, but there are two types – Clippers (move up to two spaces, standard attack strength) and Frigates (move one space, attack at 1.5x strength). A single clipper cannot defend against an attacking frigate, but a clipper supported by another clipper can. Five marked spots on the board allow transformation between unit types (1 hr 57 mins 45 secs) Special rules: a voodoo witch's hut in Cuba allows a fleet on the north coast to teleport to the south coast and vice versa. And a 14th non-playing character – a Hurricane – spins up each storm season in a random sea territory, moves randomly in the fall turn, and destroys anything in its path with an effectively unstoppable attack strength, also resetting any supply centre it passes through to neutral (1 hr 59 mins) Ken commits to reading the full rules before play begins, notes Pirates has a genuine following on vDiplomacy with games regularly in progress, and suspects he may get slaughtered (2 hr 1 min 15 secs) Gavin and Ken wrap up the show (2 hr 2 mins 15 secs) Venue: At home Drinks for the interview: Ken: One of his home brews – a lager with a bit of a kick Gavin: A Baliamo Nero d'Avola from Sicily – opened two weeks prior, which he noted had become a little sour and bitter compared to its fresh opening, much like his first round at the tournament Just a reminder you can support the show by giving it 5 stars on iTunes or Stitcher. 398 Supergirl Sci Fi Surprise Wolverine Game I Farted in YogaDoom Scrolling IntroSteph kicks off a health reset (no drink tonight, trying to get less jiggly) while the Foos shout out a genuinely great local find: Pizza & Such in Ontario for Detroit-style deep dish — crunchy crust, honey drizzle, and somehow not feeling heavy afterward. Steph also shows off a tiny Kodak keychain-sized digital camera birthday gift, instantly turning it into a chaotic show-and-tell moment (complete with battery dying mid-demo).Then the absurd news story: London police are investigating a serial graffiti artist tagging walls with “I farted in yoga” (stylized with backwards letters and crude cartoons). No message, no politics, no manifesto — just a fart confession turning into a real police case. Somewhere in London, someone from that yoga class knows exactly who it is.Geeking Out starts with a surprise favorite: Project Hail Mary — the Foos accidentally watched one of the best sci-fi movies in years. They rave about Ryan Gosling's perfect funny/serious blend, the suspense, and how the movie guides you through without forcing you to do homework-level thinking. Steph calls it a straight 10.Supergirl hype continues too: new footage and promo materials tease a version that isn't “female Superman,” but a harsher, more traumatized character shaped by Krypton's collapse — with the Woman of Tomorrow tone guiding the adaptation. Then it's Summer Game Fest 2026 news: the event fully replaces what E3 used to be, delivering trailers and spectacle without the old trade show baggage. The Foos hit the biggest reveals and favorites: Resident Evil Code Veronica coming in 2027 (Claire Redfield spotlight), The Last Ronin getting revealed as a game (no release date yet), Star Wars Zero Company, major anticipation for Wolverine (bloody, intense gameplay from the Spider-Man studio), Final Fantasy VII Rebirth/Revelation trailer pointing to Spring 2027, Attack on Titan 3, and Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra putting Captain America and Black Panther into a WWII setting with Unreal Engine 5 visuals. Here's What I Would Do brings two neighborhood problems:Jason (Fontana) is being terrorized by a neighbor's rooster that starts screaming at 5:15 AM like it's offended by the sun.Chris (Marietta) accidentally became the “hangout house” and now his friends schedule events at his place like it's a public venue — to the point where he finds out via group chat. They wrap with a quick tease: next week's show plans include Sparta opening for Local H opening for Toadies, with doors at 6 and the first band at 7.ChaptersDoom Scrolling IntroIntroSteph health reset no drinks summer body panicPizza & Such Detroit style deep dish honey drizzle shoutoutSteph's tiny Kodak keychain camera show and tellLondon graffiti mystery I farted in yoga becomes real investigationGeeking Out Project Hail Mary surprise sci fi favoriteSupergirl new footage Woman of Tomorrow toneSummer Game Fest 2026 replaces E3 recapResident Evil Code Veronica 2027 Claire RedfieldThe Last Ronin game reveal no release date yetStar Wars Zero Company August 27Wolverine gameplay hype from Spider-Man studioFinal Fantasy VII trilogy finale Spring 2027Attack on Titan 3 announcedMarvel 1943 Rise of Hydra Cap and Black Panther WWIIHere's What I Would Do rooster alarm clock neighbor Jason FontanaHere's What I Would Do friends treat my house like a venue Chris MariettaOutro + Doom Scrolling OutroProject Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling sci fi, Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, Summer Game Fest 2026, Wolverine game, Resident Evil Code Veronica, The Last Ronin, Final Fantasy VII Spring 2027, Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra, Attack on Titan 3, London graffiti I farted in yoga, rooster neighbor, hangout house problem

Mesh SDK vs Evolution SDK, Which Cardano Dev Stack Actually Wins in 2026?

In this episode, Peter breaks down one of the first real decisions Cardano developers face when building a dApp, choosing between Mesh SDK and Evolution SDK. Both libraries cover the off-chain essentials like transaction building, wallet integration, provider support, smart contract interoperability, and governance-era transactions, but they make different trade-offs depending on the kind of app you want to ship. The episode walks through practical decision points instead of abstract theory. Peter explains when Mesh makes more sense for React-based apps, production-ready smart contract templates, Hydra support, and AI-assisted development workflows, and where Evolution can be the better fit for Cloudflare Workers, edge runtimes, or teams that prefer stronger type safety and functional programming patterns. He also shows live examples from his own Mesh-based projects, including a bounty platform, a Cardano-wide leaderboard, and a governance dashboard, to make the comparison concrete.Key Takeaways:- Mesh SDK and Evolution SDK are both TypeScript-first Cardano off-chain libraries that support transaction building, wallet integration, multi-provider workflows, and governance-era transactions.- Mesh is generally the stronger choice for React-based dApps, teams that want ready-made smart contract templates, Hydra integrations, and developers leaning on AI coding tools.- Evolution SDK is often the better fit for Cloudflare Workers, edge deployments, WASM-hostile runtimes, and codebases that prioritise functional programming and strict type safety.- Teams migrating from Lucid or Lucid Evolution have a more natural upgrade path into Evolution SDK because it is the direct successor.- For NFT marketplace-style builds, Mesh offers practical advantages through its existing contract templates and developer tooling.- Mesh includes features such as social sign-in and custody wallet creation that can reduce onboarding friction for mainstream users entering a Cardano application.- The best SDK choice depends less on ideology and more on deployment target, UI framework, developer workflow, and how much prebuilt infrastructure a team wants.Links & References:- Mesh SDK vs Evolution SDK: Which off-chain library? - Learn Cardano: https://learncardano.io/comparison/mesh-vs-evolution-sdk/Website: https://learncardano.ioX/Twitter: https://x.com/LearnCardanoDisclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. 277 - Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Your Stupid Minds

Your Stupid Minds covers FOX's backdoor pilot for a show all about Marvel's 92nd favorite character. The problem being that it came in fourth in the ratings and was never picked up as a series. It's 1998's Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Starring David Hasselhoff, Lisa Rinna, Sandra Hess, and Ron Canada. After HYDRA kills Clay Quartermain in a raid on a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, Nick Fury (Hasselhoff) is brought back on after being unceremoniously kicked out five years earlier for being too cool. He abandons the gold mine he's hiding out in for the last half decade and gets back to work. Fury reunites with his former lover and future series love interest that never was Contessa Valentina 'Val' de Allegro Fontaine (Rinna), some nerd Alexander Pierce (Neil Roberts, and yes that Alexander Pierce from Winter Soldier, but British for some reason), and a psychic and get to work stopping HYDRA. Andrea Von Strucker (Hess) has reignited her frozen father's dream of HYDRA world domination and Nazi-style terrorism, and is also Viper. She gets the drop on Fury, and drops some tree frog poison onto his lips via her lips. He has 48 hours to live, but Fury ignores tech genius Gabriel Jones's (Canada) advice of hanging out in the infirmary until he dies, and goes on a quest to save his own life instead by extracting Andrea's blood for an antidote. HYDRA is also planning to shoot deadly virus missiles in the general direction of the World Trade Center (collar tug) so they have to stop that too. Screenwriter David S. Goyer borrows a story idea he'll have 14 years later in The Dark Knight Rises and Val tracks a series of dummy trucks in the hopes of finding the one with the real virus bomb. Fury invades the HYDRA compound in New Jersey and is immediately captured, but not before stashing his robot doppelgänger somewhere in an unfilmed scene. He uses said doppelgänger to fake his own death long enough to capture Andrea and extract her blood (they also thwart the missile launch), but she escapes with her dad's frozen corpse pod that she apparently strapped rockets to. Luckily, all these loose ends are ready to tie up in FOX's new Nick Fury series that everyone will love and definitely wouldn't have moved around the schedule three times before being unceremoniously canceled after six episodes.

After five months (maybe more?) between episodes, Gavin and Ken are back – and with WDC 2026 Athens about to happen, what better time to get the tournament organiser, Spyros Dovas, on the show to talk about everything you can expect from rocking up to Greece this year. Intro Gavin and Ken kick off the show with cheers and reintroduce the podcast after a hiatus of over five months (0 mins 10 secs) Gavin explains the gap – his move away from Brisbane has made catching up with Ken less frequent, and a previously recorded episode went out of date before it could be released (1 min 30 secs) Gavin flags he's still searching for employment and shares his brief, unsuccessful foray into applying at Dan Murphy's – though he remains a loyal patron (3 mins) Ken notes that Gavin is heading to a certain upcoming tournament, and Gavin confirms he'll be attending WDC 2026 in Athens – flying via Singapore and living something closer to backpacker than five-star (4 mins 30 secs) Gavin talks about his travel plans, including the Athens itinerary, flying before the Middle East situation affected routes, and his fondness for Singapore's airport (6 mins) Gavin reflects that while he's been to Greece before, it's been about twenty years – and this time he'll be doing things differently (8 mins) Interview with Spyros Dovas – WDC 2026 Organiser Gavin introduces Spyros as the tournament organiser for WDC 2026 (as distinct from Tournament Director Jamal Blakkarly) and hands over to him (9 mins 30 secs) Spyros explains how the venue came to be chosen – rather than a downtown Athens hotel, his wife suggested the beachside suburb of Saronida, about half an hour from central Athens, which he knows well (10 mins 30 secs) Spyros describes the venue logistics: as registrations grew, he booked an auxiliary venue nearby so there's now capacity for even a very large crowd (13 mins) Gavin asks Spyros to make the pitch: why should people come to WDC 2026 in Greece? Spyros covers the competitive angle (previous world champions, strong contingents from the US, Australia, and across Europe), the community experience, the setting, the weather, and the pricing advantages of being just before peak tourist season (14 mins 30 secs) They discuss the FOMO build-up section on the official WDC website (17 mins 30 secs) Spyros outlines the pre-tournament activities organised for Wednesday and Thursday (18 mins 30 secs): Wednesday – a day trip to the island of Hydra, departing from Saronida to Piraeus and taking the fast boat across (approx. 1.5 hrs) Thursday – a guided tour of the Acropolis with what Spyros describes as the best guides operating there, followed by a walk through Plaka and the historic centre, lunch by the sea, and an evening trip to watch the sunset from the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon Gavin enthuses about the Hydra day trip and reflects on the island's significance to Greek identity, noting it's less well-known internationally than Santorini or Mykonos but stunning (23 mins) Gavin shares that he's already visited the Acropolis and Parthenon once before, about twenty years ago with his family, but is genuinely excited to experience it again with expert local guides (25 mins) They discuss accommodation in Saronida – Spyros notes a good range from five-star hotels to Airbnbs at reasonable prices for this time of year, though availability is diminishing and people should book soon. He offers to assist anyone having difficulty (27 mins) Gavin mentions the Athens neighbourhood guide Spyros has put together – a Google Map indicating where to stay, where to avoid, and the character of different areas – inspired by advice Spyros gave his own son who is now studying at Bocconi University in Milan (29 mins) Gavin asks whether anyone stands out as a favourite to win. Spyros diplomatically declines to name names, noting at least a dozen players who wouldn't surprise him as champion – which he says makes the tournament all the more exciting to watch (32 mins 30 secs) They discuss the tournament format: four rounds in total, with a Friday afternoon opening round (around 5pm, to accommodate European day-of-travel arrivals), two rounds on Saturday, and Sunday morning featuring a top board alongside competitive play for all remaining players (35 mins) Gavin asks about the name of Spyros's Athens Diplomacy club – "The Gift Bearers" – and its tagline "Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts," which Spyros explains is a reference to Virgil's line about the Trojan War, chosen for its local resonance and edge. He also confirms there will be a welcome gift bag for all players at check-in (37 mins 30 secs) Gavin admits to attempting to read the Iliad in preparation and finding the going tough; Spyros explains that even modern Greeks find Homeric Greek fairly obscure, and discusses the remarkable linguistic density of ancient Greek compared to contemporary languages (40 mins) Spyros previews content he still plans to publish on the WDC website: a food guide covering local dishes people shouldn't miss and how to approach them, plus recommendations for experiencing authentic Greek nightlife and an Orthodox church service on Sunday morning (43 mins) They wrap up the interview with Spyros reassuring any hesitant attendees that Greece is safe, welcoming, English-friendly, and set up for international visitors (48 mins) Ken wraps up by expressing his jealousy and thanking Spyros (50 mins) Spyros signs off, noting the first round is exactly two months away from the recording date. If you want to attend WDC 2026 in Athens and haven't signed up yet, or want more info, go to https://athensdiplomacy.club/wdc2026/ (50 mins 30 secs) Post-interview chat Gavin and Ken return and reflect on the interview – particular enthusiasm for the Acropolis guided tour and the Hydra day trip (51 mins 30 secs) Gavin reveals a bonus travel tip: on arrival in Athens before the tournament, he'll be visiting the island that Spyros's family originally came from – a recommendation straight from Spyros himself with full insider knowledge of where to go (53 mins) Ken shares a reflection on visiting Venice as a teenager and then studying the Italian Renaissance in Year 12, noting how historical knowledge transforms the experience of being in a place – relevant for anyone heading to Athens (55 mins 30 secs) They confirm the tournament details: four rounds, Friday to Sunday (22–24 May), with a top board on Sunday. Gavin checks in on the 21st (57 mins) Around the grounds Ken mentions he's been quietly plugging away at a couple of online gunboat games, with mixed fortunes (58 mins 30 secs) Ken floats the idea of setting up a game of the vDiplomacy Greek Diplomacy variant – winner of the World Variant Design Contest in 2010 – to coincide with WDC Athens. Gavin enthusiastically signs up - This game has since begun and you can view it at  (59 mins 30 secs) Gavin gives an update on his Europa Renovatio game (a 36-player variant set in pre-fall-of-Constantinople Europe) – he was positioned for a potential solo before getting dogpiled, and is now manoeuvring to encourage a draw - This has since finished in a draw with Gavin now able to reveal he was playing as the Teutonic Order (1 hr 1 min) Ken provides an overview of Europa Renovatio for listeners who haven't played it, and the two discuss a potential improvement: adding sea lanes across the Sahara to fix the unrealistic around-Africa single-move connection (1 hr 5 mins) Gavin asks whether Ken will bring a recorder to WDC – answer: depends on whether everything fits under the 7kg carry-on limit (1 hr 9 mins) Gavin shares his excitement after scanning the WDC 2026 player list – strong contingents from Australia, France, Greece, the UK, and the US, plus many familiar names from the online scene. Tempers expectations about his own chances of making the top board (1 hr 10 mins 30 secs) The guys wrap up the show (1 hr 12 mins) Venue: At home Drinks for the interview: Oops – we forgot to mention what our drinks were and we don't remember, although Ken definitely had one of his homebrews.  Just a reminder you can support the show by giving it 5 stars on iTunes or Stitcher. What happens when art, fiction and biography take us to places that unsettle, reorient and transform our sense of the world? On Radio 4's weekly discussion programme, Naomi Alderman moves from science fiction and land art to the landscape of the mind.Pioneering multimedia artist and musician Laurie Anderson discusses The Republic of Love, which she is performing at the Brighton Festival on 6th May. It's an immersive multi-sensory experience, in which she reinterprets past pieces, including her 80s hit Big Science, to illuminate the political and emotional strangeness of the present moment. (Her new album, Let X=X is released on May 8, 2026)Writer Nina Allan reflects on co-authoring The Illuminated Man, the biography her late husband, the novelist Christopher Priest, had started about J. G. Ballard. She explores Ballard's singular imagination, shaped by wartime internment in Shanghai, and his repeated motifs of flooded cities, drained swimming pools, and the violence seeping through gated communities seen in books including Empire of the Sun, Crash and The Drowned World. Art historian Joy Sleeman introduces the first major UK exhibition devoted to the American artist Nancy Holt, MoonSunStarEarthSkyWater, at the Goodwood Art Foundation (until November 2026). From Hydra to Rotifers: A New Hypothesis Explores Pathways to Delay Aging in Humans

BUFFALO, NY — April 27, 2026 — A new #hypothesis paper was #published in Volume 18 of Aging-US on April 8, 2026, titled “From Hydra to rotifer and beyond: implications for human aging and delayed senescence.” The study was led by first and corresponding author Michael Bordonaro from the Geisinger College of Health Sciences. In this work, the author explores a bold and testable hypothesis centered on two very different invertebrate models of aging: the freshwater cnidarian Hydra and the rotifer Brachionus manjavacas. Hydra are well known for their remarkable ability to maintain tissue integrity over time through continuous stem cell renewal, effectively avoiding many of the hallmarks of aging under laboratory conditions. In contrast, rotifers represent the opposite end of the biological spectrum, with short lifespans, fixed somatic cell numbers, and a predictable pattern of age-related decline. Building on these contrasts, the paper proposes that introducing Hydra-like gene expression patterns into rotifers could delay senescence and extend healthspan. The hypothesis focuses in particular on conserved molecular pathways, including the transcription factor FoxO, which plays a central role in maintaining stem cell function and cellular resilience. Rather than attempting to recreate full stem cell renewal in rotifers—an organism with a fixed adult cell number—the proposed strategy emphasizes improving cellular maintenance, stress resistance, and proteostasis within existing cells. The paper outlines an iterative experimental framework, beginning with targeted genetic manipulation in rotifers and extending to more complex organisms such as Daphnia and mouse models. This stepwise approach is designed to identify which elements of the Hydra genetic program are truly responsible for its resistance to aging, while also allowing researchers to monitor potential trade-offs, including increased risk of uncontrolled cell growth. “We hypothesize that delayed senescence at the organismal level is possible through recapitulation of Hydra-like patterns of gene expression in rotifers, and that data obtained may help generate hypotheses for somatic interventions and prioritize pathways for mammalian validation in future studies.” Importantly, the author emphasizes that complete elimination of aging is unlikely in complex organisms due to evolutionary and biological constraints. Instead, the goal is more realistic: extending healthspan and delaying the onset of age-related decline. The paper also highlights the importance of balancing potential benefits with risks, particularly the possibility that enhancing cellular renewal pathways could increase susceptibility to neoplasia. Overall, this study presents a conceptual and experimental roadmap for translating insights from simple organisms into strategies that may eventually inform human aging research. By bridging the gap between negligible senescence and rapid aging models, the work provides a fresh perspective on how conserved biological mechanisms might be harnessed to improve health across the lifespan. "We are better together than we are apart." This conviction, rooted in the belief that human connection is the ultimate "turbocharger" for growth, serves as the foundation for navigating the complex world of global acquisitions. In an era where AI agents are rapidly automating the "logic" of business, the true differentiator remains the "unscalable" trust built over a shared meal and a glass of bourbon. In this episode of Gratitude Through Hard Times, Chris Schembra takes the show on the road to The Stand in Manhattan for the debut of the "Lunch & Dinner" series. He sits down with Adam Famularo, who returns to the show for a second time. A seasoned leader who recently navigated the high-stakes acquisition of WorkFusion by UiPath, Adam joins Chris to move beyond the boardroom and explore how deep-rooted relationships and emotional intelligence are the only ways to win $100-million deals. Adam returns to share a transparent look at the evolution of his career—from the intensity of "hypergrowth" to the strategic synergy of the "Better Together" philosophy. Together, Chris and Adam discuss why technology should never lead to isolation, arguing instead that the most successful "AI-forward" futures are those that prioritize the "Third Place" and the sacred, messy friction of in-person connection. 10 Memorable Quotes: "We are better together than we are apart." "The power of the hydra is much greater than the individual heads." "You don't sell a hundred-million-dollar deal on logic. You sell it on emotion." "The goal is to keep building, keep growing, and keep helping." "If you can connect those dots, the world becomes a better place." "You have to have a network of people who believe in you." "Tomorrow can be better than yesterday." "Step out of the rat race and into this new way of living." "This gives people permission to just be more human." "Success, fulfillment, and purpose—that is the playbook." 10 Key Takeaways: The Power of the Hydra: How the acquisition of WorkFusion by UiPath creates a "turbocharged" entity that is stronger than the sum of its parts. The "Lunch & Dinner" Philosophy: Why taking the podcast "on the road" to a comedy club and restaurant reflects the "Never Eat Alone" strategy for building deep trust. Emotional vs. Logical Selling: Understanding that while AI handles the data, major enterprise decisions are won through human networks and belief. The 90-Minute Reflection: The value of a 20-year relationship with an executive coach and the discipline of monthly reflection sessions. Verticalized AI Agents: A deep dive into how specialized technology is being used to fight financial crimes and global "bad actors." The "Better Together" Mindset: Shifting from a "me vs. you" competitive stance to a collaborative ecosystem that benefits the entire industry. The "Third Place": Celebrating environments like The Stand that offer a "home away from home" for connection without the barriers of membership fees. Permission to be Human: Why even the most successful tech founders must prioritize family, wellness, and vulnerability to avoid burnout. The ROI of Legacy: Reflecting on past successes not as endpoints, but as the "connective tissue" that fuels future partnerships. Anti-Isolation: Why we must resist the "frictionless" trend of remote work in favor of the meaningful, face-to-face interactions that drive innovation. About our Guest: Adam Famularo is a visionary leader and multi-time founder recognized for his expertise in "hypergrowth" and scaling global technology companies. Appearing on the podcast for the second time, Adam is currently a key leader within the UiPath ecosystem following the acquisition of WorkFusion. He remains a steadfast advocate for "human-forward" leadership in the age of AI, proving that true success is a result of being "Better Together."

It does not go well.  After another bad mission,  The UN comes in and says they want to put the Avengers under government control with something called the Sokovia Accords.. Security footage makes it look like Bucky did it. The kings son, T'Challa, is very much on the case.  Steve decides he's gonna go get Bucky himself despite the fact that he could get arrested in the process. T'Challa shows up to kill Bucky, and it leads to a massive chase which ends in everyone getting arrested because you can't just do whatever you want anymore.  They bring in a psychiatrist to evaluate Bucky but it's actually Zemo. But then Zemo reveals the footage from 1991 showing that Bucky murdered Tony's parents . And Steve knew. Ohhhhhhh SNAP.  Tony takes that information about as well as you'd expect. Tony fights Steve and Bucky, Bucky loses his robot arm, Steve fights Tony hard an departs with Bucky, leaving his shield behind, and Zemo is like mission accomplished. But then T'Challa shows up and arrests him.  Steve then breaks everyone out of the underwater prison,  and Bucky heads to Wakanda to be frozen until someone can deprogram his murder brain. Hello Witches On this episode we are looking at two different flowers you could work with that are perfect to plant during this month - cornflowers and hollyhocks. Hollyhock stands at the edges of the home, a traditional guardian of thresholds. It carries the energy of protection and abundance. Cornflower carries the magic of intuition, clarity and inner sight. Its vivid blue has long been linked to the third eye supporting divination and deeper perception. In Slavic folklore we meet Habernitsa, the Cornflower Wraith. A noon spirit said to dwell in the fields. She reminds us that the spirit world often meets us in unexpected ways. Cornflower also appears in the story of Chiron, the wise centaur, who used its healing properties after being wounded by a poisoned arrow during the chaos of Heracles' battle with the nine-headed serpent, the Hydra. We also look at the owl, a guide between worlds. It represents deep, earned wisdom often found in stillness. Its presence reminds us to trust what we sense, even when it cannot yet be explained. Our book review is Hungerstone by Kat Dunn. My new zine Beneath the Hawthorn Tree will be out soon for Beltane, in this zine my zine covers an in-depth look at  Beltane and how you can celebrate it, all of its magickal associations, related deities, herbs, flowers, foods, crystals, trees, animals and journal and tarot prompts for Beltane, we look at the element of fire and how to honour it within your practice and then we go full fae with sections the faery realm, how to journey or astral travel to the faery realm, faery witchcraft, pixies, brownies, the bantee or woman of the house (a female Irish counterpart of the brownie), then we look at deities such as Morgan Le Fay and Cliodhna, their lore and how to work with them. It's Marvel Monday and we're shrinking down to size! ABOUT ANT-MAN Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR ANT-MAN July 17, 2015 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF ANT-MAN Director: Peyton Reed Writers: Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Adam McKay Cast: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS Back in 1989, Hank Pym is working with S.H.I.E.L.D. until he finds out they're trying to copy his shrinking technology, and he's like, “Absolutely not, y'all are way too shady for tiny science.” So he quits and decides nobody gets the shrink suit on his watch. Fast forward to the present and Hank's life is not going great. His daughter Hope is mad at him, his former protégé Darren Cross has basically stolen his company, and Cross is this close to making his own terrifying murder-shrinking suit called Yellowjacket. Hank sees this and is like, “Cool, this is really bad” and does not sign off on it but Darren doesn't care. Meanwhile, we meet Scott Lang, a lovable ex-con whose main personality trait is that he's trying really hard. He gets out of prison, moves in with his buddy Luis, and wants to be a good dad to his daughter Cassie. Unfortunately, society has decided once you've gone to jail you're only allowed to work at Baskin-Robbins for like six minutes before getting fired. He tries to visit Cassie, but his ex Maggie and her cop fiancé Paxton are like, “Maybe pay child support before doing surprise pop-ins, my guy.” So naturally, Scott does what any struggling dad trying to get his life together would do: he agrees to do one more burglary. His buddy Luis tells him about this rich old dude's house with a big safe, so Scott breaks in, cracks the safe, and finds… a weird leather motorcycle suit. Not cash. Not jewels. He takes it home, puts it on, and immediately shrinks down to bug-size and nearly dies in a bathtub and getting stomped on at a party, all while some voice talks to him in his mask. Terrified, Scott decides to return the suit, but on his way out he gets arrested. cuz thief. But surprise! The whole thing was a setup by Hank Pym, who wanted to see if Scott had the skills to become the new Ant-Man. He tells Scott that if he wants to help and also get out of the jail, to put back on the suit. It works and he shrinks again and sneaks out.. Hank recruits Scott to help steal the Yellowjacket tech before Darren Cross can sell it to evil people, which, spoiler alert, he absolutely plans to do. So now Scott enters the classic superhero training montage portion of the movie where he learns hand-to-hand combat, how to use the suit, and most importantly, how to command ants like some kind of tiny bug king. Hope, meanwhile, is clearly way more qualified for all of this and would obviously be better at the job, but Hank refuses to let her do it because he's still deeply traumatized over what happened to her mother Janet. We learn Janet was the original Wasp and got lost in the Quantum Realm years ago while stopping a missile, which is both sad and also the most comic-book sentence imaginable. To prep for the big heist, Scott needs a special device, which means he has to sneak into Avengers headquarters. This leads to a random but delightful side quest where he fights Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, and somehow wins mostly by being annoying and tiny. It's one of those MCU moments where the movie just casually reminds you, “Oh right, this all technically connects.” Then it's time for the big finale. Darren Cross unveils the Yellowjacket at Pym Technologies during a fancy event, and Scott and the crew break in to stop the sale. Luis and the gang somehow become essential parts of the mission despite being, at best, wildly underqualified. Scott sneaks in with a whole army of ants, plants explosives, and tries to steal the suit. But Cross is ready for them because of course he is, and he captures Scott, Hank, and Hope. He reveals he's planning to sell the tech to Hydra, because if there's one thing Hydra loves, it's tiny fascism. Things go sideways fast, but Scott and Hope fight back, the building starts collapsing, and Hank gets shot because apparently old men in Marvel are legally required to get wounded in the third act. Scott chases Cross, who puts on the Yellowjacket suit and becomes a full-on flying nightmare. Their final battle somehow goes from high-tech corporate warfare to a fight in Cassie's bedroom, which is honestly one of the best visual gags in the whole movie. Trains are crashing, Thomas the Tank Engine is involved, and to Cassie it probably just looks like two dads having a nervous breakdown. When Cross takes Cassie hostage, Scott has no choice but to do the one thing Hank warned him never to do: override the regulator and shrink beyond human comprehension into the Quantum Realm. Which sounds fake, but in this movie is very real and extremely stressful. Scott manages to sabotage Yellowjacket from the inside, Cross gets absolutely obliterated, and somehow Scott finds his way back from the Quantum Realm because apparently he's just built different. After saving literally everyone, Scott finally gets a win. Paxton decides maybe this guy isn't so bad after all and helps keep him out of prison. Hank realizes that if Scott could survive the Quantum Realm, maybe Janet could still be alive. Hope gets teased with her own Wasp suit, which everyone in the audience immediately wanted to see instead, and Luis pops back in at the end to say Falcon is looking for Scott because once you do one weird tiny mission, suddenly the Avengers are texting. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON May 1, 2015 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Director: Joss Whedon Writers: Joss Whedon, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby Cast: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk Chris Hemsworth as Thor Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye James Spader as Ultron Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch Paul Bettany as Jarvis/Vision Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS Meet the Avengers — back together again because apparently no one else can handle a simple “let's raid a HYDRA base” situation. Their mission? Break into Baron von Strucker's operation, stop some deeply concerning human experimentation, and get Loki's scepter back where it belongs. Easy enough… until they run into Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, a pair of enhanced twins with super speed, mind games, and enough power to make everyone very uncomfortable. After recovering the scepter, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner do what Tony Stark and Bruce Banner always do: they mess with something they absolutely should not mess with. Hidden inside the scepter is the advanced intelligence they think can finally complete Ultron, a global peacekeeping program Tony has been dreaming about. Unfortunately, Ultron wakes up with exactly one idea in mind: humanity has got to go. He destroys J.A.R.V.I.S., wrecks Avengers Tower, steals the scepter, and heads out to build himself a better future… one without people in it. Ultron recruits Wanda and Pietro by showing them Tony's greatest hits in collateral damage, and together they set out to collect vibranium for whatever nightmare project he's cooking up. When the Avengers try to stop them, Wanda gets inside everyone's heads and forces them to confront their worst fears. Things really go off the rails when she manipulates Bruce into becoming the Hulk in the middle of a city, leaving Tony to suit up in the Hulkbuster armor and punch his friend through several buildings. Not great for public relations. With the team shaken, divided, and freshly hated by the public, Hawkeye brings everyone to the one place no one saw coming: his secret farmhouse, where he casually reveals that he has a wife, kids, and a whole hidden life none of them knew about. It's a surprisingly grounding stop for a team on the verge of collapse, and it gives them just enough clarity to realize Ultron's plan is much bigger than they thought. Once Wanda sees that he's not trying to save the world but end it, she and Pietro switch sides and join the Avengers. Things escalate quickly when Ultron kidnaps Natasha, forcing the team into another rescue while also arguing over whether they should trust the strange new synthetic body Tony and Bruce have been building. Thor returns just in time to supercharge the process, explaining that the gem in Loki's scepter is tied to something far more powerful: the Infinity Stones. The result is Vision, a mysterious new being who immediately earns everyone's trust by casually lifting Thor's hammer like it's no big deal. The final showdown takes the team to Sokovia, where Ultron has used vibranium to turn an entire chunk of the city into a floating extinction-level weapon. If he can lift it high enough and drop it, humanity is done. So naturally, the Avengers split up to save civilians, battle an endless robot army, rescue Natasha, and stop the apocalypse all at once. Nick Fury even shows up in a Helicarrier because if the sky city is going down, he's not about to miss it. The battle comes at a cost. Pietro sacrifices himself to save Hawkeye and a child, Wanda unleashes her grief in spectacular fashion, and Hulk ultimately chooses to disappear rather than risk hurting Natasha or anyone else again. In the end, Tony and Thor destroy Sokovia before it can wipe out the planet, and Vision finishes off Ultron for good — or at least as “for good” as these things ever are. By the end, the original team has changed. Thor heads back to Asgard to investigate the larger cosmic mystery. Tony steps away. Hawkeye retires. And Steve Rogers and Natasha are left to train a new generation of Avengers, including War Machine, Falcon, Wanda, and Vision. And just when you think it's over, Thanos puts on a gauntlet and basically says, “Fine. I'll do it myself. It's Marvel Monday and we're diving into another Captain America movie! ABOUT CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER As Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER April 4, 2014 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo Cast: Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS Steve goes for a run but he's fast so it's funny. He meets a guy named Sam and they yuck it up a bit. Natasha picks him up. They have a mission to attend to! Even though they're on the mission together, Black Widow actually had a different mission than Cap. He's not happy about it and tells Nick Fury as much but Nick doesn't care. So Nick goes to decrypt the data that Natasha gave him but he can't which he finds suspicious. When he goes to meet up with another agent, he's ambushed by a group of people. It's not good. After a big fight, we see someone called the Winter Soldier walking towards him. Fury is able to escape before the Winter Soldier gets to him. He's able to get to Steve's apartment and tells him what's happened and hands him a flash drive of the ship's data and tells him to trust no one. Bad news gang - Nick Fury is dead. Natasha is confused why Nick was in Steve's apartment. Steve is now a fugitive and it doesn't take long for people to start attacking him. Luckily, Natasha is on his side. They are able to find the location of an old SHIELD base in New Jersey. While heading there, they have to kiss to get people off their case, obviously. They get to the base and head to the basement and Natasha is able to get the computer to boot up. The computer now holds like the consciousness of Arnim Zola from Red Skull fame. Turns out SHIELD recruited Zola to reform Hydra. Turns out, it didn't work and now they have the Winter Soldier doing their dirty work. Rogers and Romanoff almost get stuck in the bunker when a missile hits it. Winter Soldier is told to get them. Feeling like they need help, Cap decides to bring Sam into the fold from that time he met him while running. They try to get some insight from a Hydra mole but the Winter Soldier shows up. Big fight, big fun. But Steve recognizes him within his mask, his ol' pal Bucky Barnes. But Bucky doesn't know what he's talking about. They're captured by the baddies but Agent Hill breaks them out and brings them to a secret hideout where they find out that Nick Fury is alive. They hatch a big plan that involves Black Widow going full Mission Impossible with a face disguise to break into Hydra with the plan of leaking all the info. Nick Fury shows up to help make things happen. Meanwhile, Cap and Sam struggle with Bucky Barnes. It's not looking good for Cap but Bucky Barnes ends up rescuing him before disappearing. With S.H.I.E.L.D. in disarray, Romanoff appears before a Senate subcommittee to defend her and Rogers's actions. Fury, under the cover of his apparent death, pursues Hydra's remaining cells. Rogers and Wilson decide to find Barnes. Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? Hydra's Scream II (VJtheDJ Re-Work) The Story of a Global Handshake. A few weeks back, the Instagram timeline got a bit loud. Davud IX shared his first steps into the world of Vogue production from Uzbekistan, and like anything in this culture, it was met with a "trial by fire." I stepped in....not to gatekeep, but to bridge the gap. After 8 years of walking New Way, Davud isn't a stranger to the floor; he's been in the trenches. He just needed a moment of understanding to frame his journey correctly. I promised him then that we wouldn't just talk about it....we'd make something about it. The Remix: A Musical Hug This isn't a correction; it's a handshake across the globe. I took Davud's original "Hydra" sounds from the sent files, took the sharp industrial synths and other bits, rearranged them and turned into a queen haha. This re-work was not meant to bend the whole world but to show this bitch...... DO NOT LET THESE GIRLS GET TO YOOOOOOU!!!!!! But also listen and communicate. From the "Instagram Incident" to the studio, and from Uzbekistan to the world, this is how we grow the culture. We respect the years put in on this, and we elevate the sounds together. What if the villain of the Bible has been hiding in plain sight across every mythology and empire in history? Doug Van Dorn and Dr. Judd Burton return for a members-only deep dive into the identity of Satan, not as a one-dimensional adversary, but as what Judd calls "the zero with a thousand artifices," an entity who wears different masks in different cultures while remaining the same being at the center. The guys trace him from the accuser in Job to the serpent in Eden, from Baal in the Ugaritic texts to Zeus in Greek myth, from Marduk in Babylon to Amun-Ra in Egypt, making the case that this figure has been seating himself as the chief deity of every dominant civilization throughout history. Doug offers a provocative reading of Job where the book opens with Satan as the accuser and closes with him revealed as Leviathan — the chaos monster that only God can tame — and suggests the Greeks separated what the Bible holds together, splitting the serpent and the sky god into different characters to recast the villain as the hero. The second half pushes the conversation into modern territory. If this entity rides the wave of empires, what does he look like now in a post-Enlightenment world that claims to have outgrown the gods? Doug argues that the separation of spirit and matter was always an illusion, and that Marx came from Hegel, Hegel came from Hermetic magic, and the occult never actually disappeared, it just moved underground. Judd connects the dots between ancient dialectical traps, the weaponization of language, and the re-emergence of pagan symbolism in modern politics and culture. The guys also explore Satan's counterfeit divine council, how the cross catastrophically disrupted his kingdom, the connection between chaos and water symbolism from Leviathan to Jesus walking on the sea, and why understanding this cosmic chess game is essential for making sense of everything from Epstein to alien abductions to the strange stories that pour into the Blurry Creatures inbox every week. Anthropic alleges three Chinese AI labs—DeepSeek, Moonshot, and MiniMax—ran industrial-scale distillation campaigns to extract capabilities from Claude models using proxy services and "Hydra cluster" networks with tens of thousands of fraudulent accounts, prompting Anthropic to strengthen identity controls and detection with cloud partners.  Amazon shares fall for nine straight sessions after investors react to plans for roughly $200B in 2026 capex largely for AI infrastructure, raising questions about ROI and future free cash flow. A cited analysis by YouTuber Nate B Jones argues Google's Gemini 3.1 Pro signals a strategy shift toward deeper reasoning (not just coding/agentic tools), noting a 77.1% ARC-AGI-2 score and DeepMind's scientific problem focus, contrasting OpenAI's product/distribution, Anthropic's agentic coordination, and Google's "pure intelligence" approach. The episode also references Citri Research's 2028 scenario planning report outlining a plausible fast-arriving AGI chain reaction—falling inference costs, rapid adoption, labor displacement pressure, and geopolitical competition for compute and talent—and promotes the Saturday show Project Synapse on long-term AI trajectories. But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGERJuly 22, 2011 | Theatrical ReleaseCAST & CREW OF CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGERChris Evans as Captain America/Steve RogersHugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/Red SkullSamuel L. Jackson as Nick FuryHayley Atwell as Peggy CarterSebastian Stan as James Buchanan 'Bucky' BarnesBRAN'S SYNOPSISThe movie kicks off with some scientists in the Arctic finding an old aircraft with someone frozen inside along with a circular shield. WHO COULD IT BEEEEEE?Flash back to March 1942, during World War II. Nazi dude and Hydra leader Johann Schmidt steals a mysterious glowing cube called the Tesseract, which possesses untold godly powers. In New York City, we meet little Steve Rogers. All Steve wants more than anything is to be in the Army, but he's rejected due to being a tiny boy. Dr. Abraham Erskine overhears Steve talking to his buddy Bucky Barnes about how badly he wants to serve his country, so he allows Rogers to enlist. What Steve doesn't know is that Dr. Erskine is interested in Steve for something called the "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, along with British MI6 agent Peggy Carter. Once Steve selflessly jumps on a grenade as part of a test, they know he's their guy. Erskine tells Rogers that Schmidt once took a prototype version of the super-soldier formula that gave him superhuman strength but painfully changed his appearance. So, ya know, keep that in mind. It's lab time. Steve gets hooked up to this equipment and injected with all sorts of stuff and then put into this chamber. He's yelling and screaming but tells them to keep going. Once over, Steve comes out of the chamber and is frickin' jacked.Turns out Schmidt sent an assassin to kill Erskine who gets away in a car. But Steve is now a super soldier, so he just races him down by running after him. Before Steve can question him, he kills himself with a cyanide capsule and destroys the formula while he's at it.Steve doesn't get to super soldier much. Instead, he's sent on a tour as "Captain America" to sing & dance and promote war while scientists study his blood and attempt to reverse-engineer the formula. But when Rogers finds out that Bucky is MIA, he demands to fly behind enemy lines to find him. Turns out it was Schmidt all along. Steve confronts Schmidt. Schmidt's mask is taken off to reveal he is red. I suggest we call him "Red Skull".Steve, Bucky, and some other freed prisoners form a band...of brothers... called the Howling Commandos. Steve gets a new suit in the process and potentially a new gal 'cause the sparks between him and Peggy Carter are off the charts!Using information extracted from Zola (Red Skull's little henchman), the final Hydra stronghold is located, and Rogers leads an attack to stop Schmidt from doing all the bad things he wants to do. Right before Steve climbs aboard Schmidt's super-bomber, he and Peggy kiss big ones!He hops on the plane just before it takes off and they fight. The Tesseract is freed from its container, and Red Skull uses it to open a portal. The Tesseract then burns through the plane and falls into the ocean. Steve knows he has to go after it, so he radios Peggy to say goodbye and then crashes into the Arctic. Everyone assumes Steve Rogers died after they ultimately find the Tesseract on the ocean floor.Steve wakes up in a 1940s-style hospital room. He hears a radio broadcast of a baseball game that he attended in 1941 and becomes immediately suspicious. So he breaks out of his room and runs into Times Square, blown away by all the screeeens! Nick Fury shows up and tells him that he has been asleep for almost 70 years. In a post-credits scene, we basically get an Avengers trailer. Fury approaches Rogers and proposes a mission with worldwide ramifications. Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? In October 1973, the poet and singer Leonard Cohen—thirty-nine years old, famous, unhappy, and at a creative dead end—traveled from his home on the Greek island of Hydra to the chaos and bloodshed of the Sinai desert when Egypt attacked Israel on the Jewish high holiday of Yom Kippur. Moving around the front with a guitar and a group of local musicians, Cohen met hundreds of young soldiers, men and women at the worst moment of their lives. Those who survived never forgot the experience. And the war transformed Cohen. He had announced that he was abandoning his music career, but he instead returned to Hydra and to his family, had a second child, and released one of the best albums of his career. In Who by Fire, journalist Matti Friedman gives us a riveting account of those weeks in the Sinai, drawing on Cohen's previously unpublished writing and original reporting to create a kaleidoscopic depiction of a harrowing, formative moment for both a young country at war and a singer at a crossroads. Matti Friedman is an award-winning journalist and author. Born in Toronto and based in Jerusalem, his work has appeared regularly in the New York Times, The Atlantic, Tablet, and elsewhere. Friedman's last book, Spies of No Country: Secret Lives at the Birth of Israel, won the 2019 Natan Prize and the Canadian Jewish Book Award for history. Pumpkinflowers: A Soldier's Story of a Forgotten War was chosen in 2016 as a New York Times Notable Book and one of Amazon's 10 best books of the year. His first book, The Aleppo Codex, won the 2014 Sami Rohr Prize and the ALA's Sophie Brody Medal. Matti Friedman on Twitter. 80% of artists struggle with the same problem: getting seen by curators, gallerists, and collectors. And solving this problem is like slaying a multiheaded Hydra—the tasks are endless. In this episode, we talk about how to conquer the Hydra. I break down the reasons artists get stuck, even when they're working hard. You'll learn why the order you tackle things matters more than the tasks themselves, and how one overwhelmed member went from "30 things to do, doing none of them" to making real progress in six months. I'm also announcing the Netvvrk Navigator—a new assessment tool I built with artist William Powhida that shows you exactly where you are in your career and what to work on next. Plus, a special offer for the first 10 annual members that's only available once. If you've been working hard without seeing results, this episode will show you exactly what to do next.
