This week, we continue our dive into the films of Alfred Hitchcock! Our second film in the series was a first-watch for all of us: Rope. The movie features incredible performances by Jimmy Stewart, John Dall, and Farley Granger. It was written by the phenomenal Arthur Laurents, most famous for writing the script to West Side Story and based on a 1929 play by Patrick Hamilton. The film features Brandon and Philip, a couple attempting to get away with murder. Stewart plays their prep school mentor who unwittingly inspired the two with his sensationalist theories on elitism and survival of the superior. In our discussion, we touch on classism, LGBTQ representation in film, the artistry of cinematography, and acquired tastes. Join us! Fill in some of your cinematic gaps as we venture into what we've dubbed #OperationMasterOfSuspense. This operation name is extremely on the nose. I know. Follow the podcast @BaCEAPodcast on Twitter. Don’t forget to leave a review or comment. And as always, thank you for listening. Let us know, what did your kids think of this one? Alfred Hitchcock's Rope is a classic movie and a great expose of the problems with Nietzsche's philosophy on the Ubermensch in the real world. Jason and Hutch don their rubber gloves and prepare to examine Alfred Hitchcock's Rope (1948) and Alejandro Iñárritu's Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014). This could get messy.
We invite our listeners to one last dinner with us, machine and horse, as we do the polite thing and talk politics over the dinner table. BEATRIZ AT DINNER features two great performances from Salma Hayek and John Lithgow doing battle across the political divide and we in turn present Alfred Hitchcock's ROPE and Stacy Title's THE LAST SUPPER as dinner party rivals where philosophical differences lead to murder. And then we announce our intent to murder this podcast (as if we haven't done that before!) On this episode, Phillip is joined by his cousin Chip from Colorado. They start by talking about what Phillip's been watching; Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Gauntlet, Widows, Creed II, Instant Family, The Grinch, and Rubber. Phillip explains to Chip how fun and silly the movie Rubber is. Then they talk about and dive into a movie that Phillip hadn't seen until now, The Greatest Showman. Then they dive into The Town, a movie that Chip hadn't seen until now. Last but not least they dive into Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, which Chip also hadn't seen. Then the 2 of them talk about what movies they should dive into next, and a they talk about a possible sequel to Rear Window involving Robert a killer tire. It's a good time. Welcome To The Party Pal: The Mind-Bending Film & Television Podcast You Didn't Know You Needed!
In this episode of Welcome to The Party Pal, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread is dissected, and its grandeur examined. In the podcast Brian and Michael dive into the themes present in Phantom Thread such as obsession, neurosis, mother issues, love, the desire for control, and shared fetishes, while marveling over the trio of remarkable actors in the film. This is a podcast that journeys many places, as the WTTPP team discuss Adam Sandler films, the eight shots that encompassed Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, how Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood planted the seed that grew into Phantom Thread in Paul Thomas Anderson’s mind, who the fashion designer is responsible for popularizing the modern man’s suit with a necktie, and just how “LIT” the New Years Eve party that took place in the film was, and much, much more! Some of our MRML panelists are enjoying some Alfred Hitchcock suspense to get ready for Halloween and they're going to try to talk you into doing the same. Danny has selected 1948's "ROPE", while Devon has selected 1963's The Birds... it's also worth noting that the two have made their picks for very different reasons. Let us know who's advise you took by tweet or DM @mrmlpodcast on twitter!
