In this emotional and powerful film, director Ryan Coogler's feature debut brings to life the final day of Oscar Grant, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther), in a heartbreaking story based on real events. Joined by Octavia Spencer (The Help, Hidden Figures), Melonie Diaz (Charmed), and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill, Freaky Friday), the film captures an unforgettable human story of injustice, family, and hope. Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) & Tara Erickson react to some of the most gut-wrenching scenes in the movie—including Oscar's final moments, his interactions with his daughter, and the chilling BART station sequence. This film marked the beginning of a powerful collaboration between Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, who went on to make Creed, Creed II (as a producer), Creed III (produced), Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together. Fruitvale Station remains a vital, emotionally raw viewing experience—and one that continues to resonate deeply over a decade later. O no podáis... Dale al play, ajusta tus auriculares, y recuerda: "No estás despierto. Solo has cambiado de sueño." ------------------------------------------------------------ Teatro Robótico de Misterio es tu Productora Indie de Podcasts y Ficciones Sonoras de Terror, Fantasía y Ciencia Ficción. But he also graduated #1 in his class in the masters' degree program in Chemical Engineering, won scholarships in that subject all over the world (including a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT), was a European and Australian karate champion, and - as we hear - almost became a boxer when he first moved to New York. After two long days of me teaching Dolph mixology, we sat down in West Hollywood over a couple of glasses of the new vodka brand that Dolph and his wife Emma are launching in a month or so (and that I'm helping with), and talked about how he got into acting, why it's no fun to spend your weekends punching Australians, and how he still does a kata every morning, among a whole lot more. This was a lot of fun and we're going to tape a muuuch longer episode next month, after the vodka launch. On today's episode, I talk to writer and director Juel Taylor. Originally from Tuskegee, Alabama, Juel at first wanted to design video games, but in college he shifted his focus to filmmaking. He did different jobs in sound while he was waiting to break through, and in 2018, he co-wrote Creed II. Directing gigs on Boomerang and Twenties followed, as well as co-writing Space Jam: A New Legacy in 2021. On this month's episode, we're once again taking a look at another Lundgren trio -- Acceleration, Hard Night Falling, and The Tracker! Filmed over the course of 2018 and released shortly after, this triumvirate of films has similar DNA running through them -- The Tracker and Hard Night Falling had Dolph jetting off to Italy and reteaming with director, Giorgio Serafini; whereas Hard Night Falling and Acceleration had him co-starring alongside rising action star and producer, Natalie Burn! In Acceleration, Lundgren plays a mob boss who puts a hard-nosed driver through a series of deadly tasks over the course of a single night; in Hard Night Falling, Lundgren attempts to channel John McClane once again as an Interpol agent vacationing in Italy who takes on a band of thieves; and in The Tracker, Dolph is an expert hunter (?) who travels to Italy to find the men who kidnapped and killed his family! While these films may all have wildly different conceits, are they any good...? Well, we have screenwriter, Tom Jolliffe returning to the show to help me answer that question! With such tight and limited shooting schedules, what was it about these films that intrigued Dolph in the first place? And how do these films stand up, both individually and in the wake of Lundgren's comeback with Creed II? Listen in as Tom and I get to the bottom of Acceleration, Hard Night Falling, and The Tracker! Major thanks to Tom Jolliffe for joining me once again! Please check out his numerous screenwriting credits listed here: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6789910/! Editors – Dana E. Glauberman ACE, James D. Wilcox ACE and Rosanne Tan ACE AHSOKA editors Dana E. Glauberman ACE, James D. Wilcox ACE and Rosanne Tan ACE worked together for the very first time to help bring to life the story of Anakin Skywalker's former apprentice. Although none of the three describe themselves as experts on the Star Wars universe, it's their gifts as storytellers that led Dave Filoni to trust them with his latest entry in the saga. Set after the fall of the Empire, AHSOKA follows the former Jedi knight, Ahsoka Tano, as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. DANA E. GLAUBERMAN ACE When she's not lending her editorial talents to the Star Wars universe, Dana is cutting films like GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, CREED II, UP IN THE AIR and JUNO. AHSOKA marks Dana's third tour of duty for Lucasfilm, having been part of the editorial crew for THE MANDALORIAN - S1 and THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT. JAMES D. WILCOX ACE A frequent collaborator with director Ron Howard, James cut Howard's adaptation of the book HILLBILLY ELEGY as well as his documentary THIRTEEN LIVES. Unlike most feature editors who started their journey in post as an assistant, James actually started out as a full-time editor working in news and sports. This is James' third appearance on The Rough Cut. ROSANNE TAN ACE Like Dana, Rosanne Tan ACE makes her 4th appearance on The Rough Cut! Prior to AHSOKA, Rosanne was making her mark with another Disney studio, cutting Marvel's HAWKEYE and THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER. Before her tour of duty with Disney, Rosanne was editing tv shows that featured action, intrigue and high drama; notably MR. ROBOT and HOMECOMING.
Award-winning film director, Steven Caple Jr., is fresh off his summer box office success with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Interestingly enough, he doesn't have a massive portfolio of blockbuster films under his belt. But with this accomplishment for a major Transformers franchise comes a tremendous responsibility for an incredibly gifted, Black filmmaker in the competitive world of cinema. Join us as host Eddie Robinson chats candidly with acclaimed film and television director, producer and screenwriter, Steven Caple, Jr. The Cleveland, Ohio-native calls his unguarded chat with I SEE U: “therapy—but in a good way.” He dives deep into his own journey of what led him to pursue filmmaking as a career. The first generation college graduate also shares insight into his own unique style of visual storytelling and what he believes to be actual road blocks within the industry for directors of color.

Just like a timeless melody, our conversation with composer Jongnic Bontemps, whose latest project is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, was an unforgettable one. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Jongnic's musical journey began at an early age with a simple request. His mother really wanted to hear an organ in the house. The piano soon became Jongnic's best friend while his exploration grew to include performing in bands. Because the journey of a creative is often sinuous, we talk about how he ended up heading to Yale University to become a lawyer and after another pivot, landed what ended up to be a 15 year career in tech. He became one of a few Black chief technology officers in Silicon Valley until he heard a calling from a much higher source. We talk in-depth about the journey from law to music to software development and ultimately the world of post-production as he's composed for over 50 projects. We discuss the beauty of making and maintaining connections with other creators and the purposeful sustainability it can bring, which led Jongnic to composing for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. His impressive credentials include projects like, The Land, United Skates, Boomerang (TV series), The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, Sharia, My Name Is Pauli Murray, Godfather of Harlem, Creed II, The Secret Life of Pets, Unbroken, The Imitation Game, Godzilla, Carrie and the video games, Call of Duty: WWII and Redfall. Check out all of our other Stranded Panda Podcasts! www.strandedpanda.com Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Disney announced major shake-ups to its release schedule with far reaching effects to some of the biggest franchises under its belt. Most notably, the Marvel slate has seen a complete overhaul with Phase 5 film Captain America: Brave New World shifting dates from May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024, which in turn, delays the Thunderbolts to December 20, 2024. Similarly Phase 6 is seeing Blade and The Fantastic Four pushed to February 14, 2025 and May 5, 2025 respectively. Perhaps the biggest impact is both phase-culmination Avenger films being delayed by a full year each, with The Kang Dynasty now eyeing a May 1, 2026 release and Secret Wars set for May 7, 2027. After languishing in development hell, The Flash is finally set to hit theaters later this week and the film's press tour is in full sprint! Star Ezra Miller has been noticeably absent, as the studio has focused on marketing and promoting the film itself, rather than its star, which is unsurprising given Miller's problematic past behavior. While early reviews are positive and there is certainly buzz around the flick, box office projections for its opening are soft at around $70 to $75 million. Director Andy Muscheitti has featured heavily in the film's promotion and while there won't be a script until after the writer's strike ends, he is reportedly the frontrunner for the DCU's Batman reboot: Batman: The Brave and The Bold. The Autobots and Maximals rolled out in fine fashion last weekend, taking the top spot at the box office with a $61 million domestic debut. That was enough to narrowly beat out Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in its second weekend, which saw a strong and impressive $55.4 million hold. The Transformers sequel/prequel from Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is a recent series best, beating 2018's Bumblebee which opened to $21.6 million and 2017's The Last Knight's $44.6 million debut. According to industry insiders, Nintendo and Illumination are reportedly close to finalizing a deal for the next entry in the Nintendo film franchise: The Legend of Zelda. More Nintendo films were a given in the wake of The Super Mario Bros. Movie's unbridled $1.6 billion success, with many fans clamoring for a Zelda adaptation specifically. Always the shrewd business, Nintendo is apparently aware of the franchise's potential as the insider reports also suggest that obtaining rights will cost Universal “a pretty penny.” Adult Swim has released a new trailer for the upcoming animated series My Adventures with Superman, starring Jack Quaid as Superman. Ahsoka will begin streaming on Disney+ on August 23rd. (We originally reported a rumor that it would be streaming 8/31). Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is currently tracking for a $60+ million dollar domestic box office outing. This lackluster projection comes on the heels of lackluster reviews, a sparse marketing campaign, and a crowded summer blockbuster listing of films. Tom Holland announced that following the emotional weight of his upcoming AppleTV+ series The Crowded Room, that he is taking a year off from acting. Holland recently described the role as leading to "a bit of a meltdown" in his personal life. The first 5 minutes of the upcoming Marvel series Secret Invasion is now available to view online. The first episode of the series begins streaming on June 21st. Lucasfilm Games has released the first cinematic trailer for the upcoming Star Wars game Star Wars Outlaws. A gameplay trailer was also shown and the game was described as the “first open world star wars game” 'Stan Lee,' an original documentary on the life and impact of Marvel comics creator Stan Lee arrives on Disney+ this week on June 16th.
The Transformers franchise is back, but only sort of? This week on Cinemaholics, we discuss Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. The new film takes place in the 90s and departs from the mainline Transformers movies by Michael Bay. It's maybe barely a sequel to Bumblebee, the prequel we declared as the best Transformers by default in 2018. But this time around the Autobots, still led by Optimus Prime, team up with new allies inspired by the Beast Wars cartoon to stop a worldwide alien threat you probably don't care about. That said, Jon and Will don't fully see eye-to-eye on this one. So stay tuned to hear where they both ultimately land on this transformative new take on the series. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was directed by Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II) and written by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters, Erich Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber. The cast includes Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback in live-action roles, with the voice cast including Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Liza Koshy, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Pete Davidson, Colman Domingo, Cristo Fernández, and Tongayi Chirisa. Plus longtime returning voices to the franchise: Peter Cullen, John DiMaggio, and David Sobolov. The film is being released through Paramount Pictures. Karl and Tonya sit down to watch the second installment of Creed from the Rocky Universe of movies and we liked this one much better than Creed I. This one brought back Ivan Drago along with his son to face Adonis Creed but Rocky isn't having any of it. A LOT happens in this movie with Adonis Creed winning the World title, getting hammered by Viktor Drago, and then having to make the Rocky style comeback. Also, we get a very nebulous possible ending for Rocky Balboa! Stay tuned!
Round 9! This is the film that almost made me do this series sooner. When this was coming out, it looked great but I hadn't seen anything before it and I was too lazy then to go through everything, not this time though! "Creed III" recently opened in theaters to the franchise's best box office opening and is continuing the "Creed" franchise in new and unexpected ways. One of those fresh approaches was through the film's cinematography. Michael B. Jordan, in his directorial debut, brought on "Creed II" director of photography Kramer Morgenthau to execute his vision for the third and most ambitious film in the franchise yet. That ambition came from the decision to shoot the boxing scenes using IMAX cameras, a first for any sports film, and depict the action in a style that resembled anime. Kramer was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Thank you, and enjoy!
