FISHING RULES THAT RUINED FAMILIES Food Travel USA with Elizabeth Dougherty Album: The TRUTH About Food and Travel 071225 Episode #: 1947 Original Broadcast Date: 07/12/25 During the Obama administration, sweeping fishing restrictions blanketed America's coastal waters. From Maine to Florida, and California to Washington, recreational fishermen found themselves regulated out—while commercial operations were allowed to expand. Elizabeth explores how those rules impacted family businesses, many of which folded under the weight of permits, fees, and federal overreach. Now, some of those rules are being rolled back—but for many, it's too little, too late. In this segment, you'll hear voices from both sides: those who fought to protect the waters, and those who say the government destroyed their way of life. FOOD TRAVEL USA FAST FACTS About the Show Using the chassis of a food and travel show, Elizabeth Dougherty has carved out her own lane in Talk Radio, covering the contamination of the food supply and the travel restrictions placed upon us by an overreaching government. The show also covers data protection, self-sufficiency, and homesteading-related topics to help protect us from this evil, corrupt system. With Elizabeth as the host, the show has a very different sound from the typical male-oriented talk radio. In combination with terrestrial stations that carry the show, we reach people who don't normally listen to politically-driven talk radio. In addition to the LIVE FEED of the show on Saturday afternoons from 5pm–7pm (Eastern) / 2pm–4pm (Pacific), we produce and distribute a dozen podcast segments each week. Has Hollywood ruined the new Superman movie by going woke???Director James Gunn sparked the sensible Republican super outrage by telling the Times of London, “I mean, Superman is the story of America. An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country. But for me, it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Episode 316 of History in Five Songs with Martin Popoff takes a cheeky sideways swipe at the groove: Martin lines up Deep Purple, Queen, The Jam, Boomtown Rats, and The Clash, drops the needle on their “too‑funky‑for‑their‑own‑good” moments, and shows how a fatback beat can splinter line‑ups, sideline guitars, and tank whole careers. If you're curious why Richie Blackmore bolted, how Freddie's dance‑floor obsession blindsided Brian May, or where Paul Weller's mojo wandered, cue this episode and hear Martin's vinyl‑crackling verdict on bands ruined by funk. 1. Deep Purple – “You Can't Do It Right”2. Queen – “Back Chat” 3. The Jam – “Precious” 4. The Boomtown Rats – “Mood Mambo” 5. The Clash – “Ivan Meets G.I. Joe” Learn more about your ad choices. It's easy to see the Bible as fable, a kind of religious fairy tale with a moralistic sting in its tail.Passages like this one show that much of the book is rooted in actual historical events. These chapters are a snapshot of the late eighth century BC Middle East. The prophet Isaiah is begging the king of one of these nations (Ahaz of Judah) not to enter an alliance with two others (Israel and Aram) against the threat of an invasion from the Assyrian Empire.Instead, Ahaz should rely on God.In his prophecy which involves naming his own children as a sign to Judah and describing dead bodies lying like excrement on Jerusalem's streets, Isaiah appears to predict the arrival of Jesus, a divine rescuer who he refers to enigmatically as 'The Light of the World.'Written and produced by Chas BayfieldMusic by Michael Auld and Jon Hawkins MusicCover art by Lisa GoffSend any comments or feedback to contact@whollybuyable.comX: @WhollyBuyable

Is there any greater fandom than a Jersey man's love for The Boss? This week we're joined by Halle Kiefer, comedy writer and co-host of the podcast Ruined for another trip north to Canada for a look at the formative years of David Cronenberg. We're watching Rabid, starring Marilyn Chambers, famous for her appearance in the 70's adult film hit, Behind The Green Door. Here Cronenberg runs up against a minor moral panic when a film critic questions the government's willingness to fund his films. Marilyn Chambers pushes back against a studio system that can't find the courage to cast an actress from adult films in a major studio release. A woman receives an emergency skin graft that somehow transforms into a phallic proboscis in her armpit that feeds her like a vampire and spreads a new form of rabies which turns its victims into enraged zombies that will stop at nothing to kill everything that moves.Cronenberg is still figuring it out in this movie which despite its outrageous premise and lurid stunt-casting, could be seen as a meditation on the rise of second-wave feminism, his place in that world, and his impact on that movement as a man trying to navigate the changing world. This episode needs little description. Thanks to Kelly and Tank Sears for their candid and sometimes raw emotion in this conversation as they share the reality of the strain a myocardial bridge can put on a relationship, a marriage, a family. Yes, we'll cover the health portion of the surgery and Kelly's amazing recovery after a less than vacation like visit to Greece to see Dr. Kofidis, but it's the perseverance and trust that both she and her husband demonstrated in getting not only the appropriate health care but how they held it together as spouses in a truly challenging time. And that's not to mention the kids in the mix too. The strength of their love was challenged and the good news... there's a happy ending. “If you've got a whole room full of 10's, that's the 5…” We've all been there. Every one of us have experienced an album where it was “almost perfect” front to back, yet there was that one song that blemished its perfection and brought it down a notch. Granted, some songs may not fit relative to the context of an album and should have never been included to begin with, while others may have been played into the ground a quadrillion times to the point that even though it has become tiresome to listen to, “it's not like it doesn't belong” on the album. Basically, the most pressing points to ponder when evaluating whether a song is “skippable” or simply should not exist are: “If you take this song off the album, does it make it a better album?” “If it's 1980 and you're wearing your jorts and your tank top and you're at a Boone's farm bonfire…is it a bad song?” “Is this the song that made this album worse…?” Discover the most “prostate meltingly hot” thing a woman can wear, hear Beaker's favorite song to do at karaoke after a long day on set at The Muppet Show, and prepare to get “T.B.R” when you JOIN US for the “hysteria” surrounding THE SONG THAT SHOULD NOT BE as things get heated and hostile regarding GREAT METAL ALBUMS RUINED BY ONE SONG. In this podcast we talk about your ego and your business success (or failure). It all started with a real-life case study of a business owner who confessed that his ego destroyed his business. Here are 5 powerful reasons to keep your ego in check when running and growing a business, especially in light of your client's hard-earned lesson: 1. Ego Blinds You to Feedback and Reality When ego runs the show, you stop listening — to your team, your customers, and the market. You believe you're always right, which creates blind spots. This arrogance prevents you from seeing warning signs, adapting, or improving — until it's too late. Reality check: Feedback isn't a threat. It's a mirror and a compass. 2. Ego Destroys Customer Relationships Taking customers for granted, being dismissive, or treating them with contempt stems from a sense of superiority. But in today's market, loyalty is fragile. Ego-driven behaviour drives customers away and tarnishes your reputation - often irreparably. Bottom line: Customers don't care about your ego. They care how you treat them. 3. Ego Undermines Team Culture and Leadership A leader with an unchecked ego breeds fear, resentment, and disengagement. Talented people leave. Collaboration dies. Decision-making suffers. Ego turns leadership into dictatorship, and few want to follow that. Great leaders lift others, not just themselves. 4. Ego Makes You Chase Vanity Over Value Ego wants to look good — big office, flashy numbers, fast growth — even if the fundamentals are weak. You may start chasing awards, status, or size instead of sustainable, customer-driven value. That path leads to burnout, breakdown, or both. Impressing others is a poor substitute for building something that lasts. 5. Ego Blocks Accountability and Growth When things go wrong, ego blames others. But real growth requires ownership, humility, and the courage to say, “I got it wrong.” Without this, mistakes repeat and lessons are never learned. No humility = no growth. Summary takeaway: Unchecked ego is the silent business killer. It alienates customers, erodes culture, distorts priorities, and blocks learning. The best leaders grow their business by shrinking their ego. UPDATED PODCAST FOOTER DECEMBER 2024

The public inquiry into the Post Office Horizon scandal has published its first report into what went wrong and how the victims should be properly compensated. The inquiry's chair, Sir Wyn Williams, has found that at least 13 postmasters may have taken their own lives after being accused of wrongdoing based on evidence from the Horizon IT system which both the Post Office and its maker, Fujitsu, knew could be false. In today's episode Niall Paterson speaks to our business correspondent Paul Kelso about just how damning these findings are and also to former postmistress Janet Skinner who was sent to prison after wrongly being accused of stealing £59,000.
