It's a Slamdance Special on BEHIND THE LENS this week as we look at two films marking their world premieres at the Slamdance Film Festival and chat with their respective filmmakers— CAMERON S. MITCHELL talks about DISPOSABLE HUMANITY while CORY SANTILLI discusses IN THE MOUTH. Kicking things off is my exclusive interview with CAMERON MITCHELL writer/director/cinematographer and co-editor of DISPOSABLE HUMANITY, an eye-opening documentary about how the Nazis used disabled people to train killing staff and design the concentration camp apparatus for the Holocaust. Listen as Cameron discusses DISPOSABLE HUMANITY and exploring the Action T4 program during the Third Reich. His parents, who researched American eugenics, inspired him to document the T4 centers, where disabled individuals were systematically killed. The film features Mitchell's family home movies and interviews with survivors and historians. The score, composed by Andre Barros, enhances the cinematic experience. As you'll hear, Cameron emphasizes the importance of remembering T4's role in catalyzing the Holocaust and the need for inclusive memorialization. Turning our attention to something lighter is my exclusive interview with CORY SANTILLI talking about his world premiere feature narrative IN THE MOUTH. Shot in black and white, IN THE MOUTH boasts some wonderful production elements as well as outstanding performances from Colin Burgess and Paul Michael. As you'll hear in our conversation, Cory talks about how his own agoraphobia led to this story, shooting in black and white, and amassing a total of 164 scenes shot in 11 days. Cory and cinematographer Mike Magilnick meticulously planned the visual grammar, emphasizing shadows and negative space. The music score, created by composer Kubilar Uner, blends whimsy and genre elements. And of course, you'll discover what Cory learned as a filmmaker in making IN THE MOUTH. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

She loved it and felt it was good natured fun. Finally, the Dragon finished Stranger Things: Season 4 (Netflix), the latest season of the popular show. She thought the season was good and the ending was ok.   Berto on the Bed: Berto watched The Bourne Identity (HBO), an action film about a super spy who lost his memory. He thought it was a good movie, but the action was very 2000's. Next, Berto went to Joe Bob corner and watched A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (Shudder), an Iranian vampire film. He thought it was boring, hated it, and felt it was the definition of an “artsy fartsy” film. Next, Berto watched In The Mouth of Madness (Shudder), a John Carpenter horror film about a novelist who goes missing. He thought it was really good and enjoyed Sam Neill's performance. Next, he finished watching season 1 of Atlanta (Hulu), Donald Glover's comedy drama. Berto loved it and thought it was a genius show. Finally, Berto finished reading Starship Troopers (Novel), a military sci-fi novel. He really enjoyed it, and liked the world building that the novel created, but reminds everyone that it is nothing like the movie.   This week's deep dive is the 2002 sci-fi film Equilibrium, currently streaming on HBO Max.

Somebody got a little damn cosmic horror in my regularly scheduled Boo Englund 3D! Folks, it's John Carpenter's underappreciated piece of brilliance, In The Mouth of Madness. Just a typical tale of insurance fraud mixed with the cosmic origins of the universe. Somebody even says, "The Old Ones" in this thing. It's a straight up Cthulhu. Sam Neil from JURASSIC PARK EVER HEARD OF IT, stars as a flipping narc come to make sure that big insurance stays rich and uh oh loses his damn mind. Like all the way. Like it's impressive how little of his mind is left at the end of this thing. It's a wild one and here to help you navigate it are a couple of boys who know a thing or two about going mad and getting mad. It's the Two Boys of Two Boys in a Balcony talking about the great JC. Merry Christmas ya'll

Split Picks continues its look into the four American titans of horror. After discussing Tobe Hooper last week, John Carpenter takes his turn in the spotlight. Filmmaker Steve Collins and actor John Merriman join Craig to talk about Carpenter in the '90s. Steve brings In The Mouth of Madness (1994); John brings John Carpenter's Vampires (1998). They talk about Carpenter's attraction to distilled evil on film, how the lovably average working man powers his films, and how his simplistic soundtracks power his films. John, Steve, and Craig pick their ideal spinoff-films from characters introduced in In The Mouth of Madness on their way into the heart of Hobb's End. On Vampires, they break down the pairing of James Woods and Daniel Baldwin as vampire-hunting stars, they contemplate a few of its miscalculations, and how the film is the closest we have to a Carpenter Western film.

This is the first reel of this month's episode, featuring a round up of the month's film news, a look at new release Those Who Wish Me Dead and old favourite Near Dark; The Year of the Carpenter with June's entry In The Mouth of Madness, and why Atlantis The Lost Empire is a lost Disney classic. Our Classics and Recommended feature looking at 1971 cop drama The French Connection; an appeal for more people to watch the Hidden Gem Dredd; The One That Got Away about George Miller's cancelled Justice League project; and a Remake Hatewatch of two Robin Hood films - the 2010 Russell Crowe effort and Taron Egerton's 2018 abomination.

In this episode, the FM3 tackle some great John Carpenter flicks, but maybe not the ones that get talked about the most (Halloween, The Thing). Instead, we decided to focus on a few others we love, like The Fog (1980), Prince of Darkness (1987) and In The Mouth of Madness (1994).
