Fui ao circo pensando numa coisa e saí de lá acreditando em outra. Disseram que ia ter um mágico Fulano de Tal que sabia ler mentes e conseguia fazer os truques mais incríveis de que até Deus duvidava. Eu mesmo não sou muito crédulo: sei o que é prestidigitação, esse negócio de tirar coelho da cartola, transformar um pedaço de pano em pombas e levitar do chão. É tudo técnica. É só uma questão de saber para onde direcionar a atenção da plateia enquanto se faz um truque do outro lado. Pois bem. Na hora do show eis que o mágico sobe no palcoe com um movimento dos dedos ele hipnotiza uma das mulheres da plateia. O mágico deu uma cebola para a mulher e ela comeu a cebola como se fosse uma maçã. Eu continuei lá completamente fleumático. Todo mundo pode comer uma cebola sem fazer careta. Daí o mágico se acorrentou, entrou num caixão e pediu que a mulher que estava hipnotizada enfiasse espadas no caixão enquanto ele tentava escapar. O rosto da mulher não traiu nenhuma emoção. Depois que o homem entrou lá, a mulher pegou a primeira espada e a enfiou no caixão com tanta força que a plateia soltou um gemido de dor. Mas pior foi o barulho que veio de dentro do caixão. O homem gritou e todo mundo se assustou. A direção do circo pediu que todos se retirassem, o que fizemos de muito bom grado, e não nos deu mais nenhuma explicação. David Parr is…well, a bit of an enigma in our world today. He took the rather circuitous path to eventually find his own way to happiness. If this sounds like an existential existence, then you’d be right. Like many of us, David has tried many paths, including comedy clubs and magic, before he settled on being a Bizarre Magician. His thoughts on the subject and how he sees this area of our art and how he got there is the subject of our conversation. As a Theater Major in school, he has always favored the dramatic and storytelling side of performing. Along the way, he blazed a trail for others to follow when magic was not considered a “theatrical art” but relegated to children’s birthday parties.
