If ever there was an irreverent, spicy comedian, it had to be Buddy Hackett. Buddy was a nightclub comic and one of the biggest headliners in Las Vegas history. He also had some acting credits including “It's a Mad Mad World,” “Music Man,” and “The Love Bug.” Hackett made many appearances on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson and Jack Paar. Buddy had bell's palsy as a child which caused his slurred speech and strange facial expressions. Did he ever appear nude on stage? I'll let him answer that. On the radio, his recording of “The Chinese Waiter” was played many times.

Paul Cimins interviews Mitch Malloy, an American singer, best known as the former lead vocalist for the rock band Great White from 2018 to 2022. Malloy studied music at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. He got his first break when he was signed to RCA. Malloy's self-titled first album featured session musicians such as Mickey Curry, Hugh McDonald and Michael Thompson.[1] His first single as a solo artist on RCA records, "Anything At All", was a top 20 rock charting hit and a pop hit in the US.[5] His third single, "Our Love Will Never Die", earned him an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.[1] His second album, Ceilings And Walls, featured guest musicians such as Bernie Leadon, Mike Rutherford and Paul Carrack.[6] He auditioned to be the singer of hard rock band Van Halen after Sammy Hagar's departure.[7][8][9] Malloy recorded various demos with the band, and Eddie Van Halen gave Malloy an instrumental demo to use for his own endeavors. This song was released by Malloy in 2015 as "It's the Right Time".[10]The riff reemerged in the sessions leading up to Van Halen's 1998 studio album Van Halen III in the song "That's Why I Love You." The song was scrapped from the record in favor of "Josephina."[11] Malloy has had a lengthy career featuring in various bands as lead singer, releasing solo albums, and making guest appearances as well. His latest album marks his first time completing an entire release all on his own.[12] Visit his website to learn more about him. www.mitchmalloy.com

Welcome to Part 2 of my interview with Vinnie Ciesielski! Before I say anything else, let me point out that the link I share to access the show notes during the episode is incorrect. The show notes for this episode are https://trumpetdynamics.com/trumpetvinnie2. I believe I left out the number 2 during the interview because I initially planned to have this be one giant episode, but wisely chose to break it into two parts. And what a part this is. Vinnie and I dove deep into the "why" of playing trumpet. The "How" tends to be rather superficial, which is why I don't have much interest in podcasts like that. But the "why" is what gets me excited, and Vinnie surely did not disappoint with his insightful comments in this one.Enjoy! What you'll hear in this episode:-More in-depth dialogue on the "good day and great day" concept...05:05-The need for healthy lifestyle for success on trumpet and overall quality of life...08:30-Self-loathing equates to loathing your environment...13:30-Why and how Vinnie has played with a rare condition that causes loss of feeling on the left side of his body...17:20-If you can feel your face, you're ahead of the game!...25:00-Shame is a wasted emotion...32:00-Keeping things real regarding the importance of trumpet...36:00-Adapting to radically changed physicality, and thoughtfully losing weight so it stays off...43:30-Music a salve for tremendous joy and intense loss...53:45-Are we "called" to trumpet?...58:45-A father's offhand comment while watching TV proves prophetic...01:03:30-Plus whatever your discerning ears deem worthy of your time and interest...Resources mentioned:Vinnie's websiteMy Fitness Pal appTrumpet Dynamics podcast with Beth PeroutkaAbout the Guest:Attending Towson University in Maryland, Vinnie Ciesielski majored in music performance on trumpet, which he has played professionally for over 50 years.Since coming to Nashville in 1992, Vinnie has played on thousands of recordings with artists such as Lyle Lovett, Travis Tritt, Tracy Byrd, Smokey Norful, Tanya Tucker, Glenn Frey, T.D. Talk show are at an interesting inflection point. Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher have recently decided to go back on the air, sans writers, drawing the ire of some union supporters. Then there are the late night hosts, who have banded together to form the podcast Strike Force Five... in the midst of controversy surrounding Jimmy Fallon, who was the subject of a Rolling Stone expose about a toxic work environment at "The Tonight Show." Eric Deggans, TV critic for NPR, joins us to break down all the recent talk show news. *This segment is guest-hosted by Tiffany Hanssen.
unity decided to just drop a nuke on the game development world and the both backtracked and doubled down, but so far it has cause among us to be pulled from storefronts. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios VFX artists have unanimously voted to join IATSE, in the first of its kind unionization vote in the VFX industry. Starfield continues to dominate the headlines and gaming charts, SquareEnix may be facing a interesting situation, and the iPhone is getting AAA gaming support. Meanwhile Miyazaki unretires, Alan Moore gives his money to charity, and Shawn Levy says Deadpool is like John Candy. Plus my favorite 80s teen movies! Come take a listen.

Rolling Stone magazine recently published an exposé on the “toxic work environment” of the Tonight Show, pointing specifically to Fallon as a key contributor to the chaotic atmosphere behind the scenes. Known for his endearing mannerisms and affable personality, Fallon seemed to be a paragon of niceness. In this episode, we explore niceness and consider its relatively superficial nature.

Recently, late night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Jimmy Kimmel started the chat podcast Strike Force Five to raise money and support their staff during the actors and writers strikes. Shortly after it launched, an investigation in Rolling Stone outlined allegations of erratic and aggressive behavior by Jimmy Fallon and a generally terrible working environment at The Tonight Show. Much of Samantha Schweblin's writing has a kind of dangerous element to it, and that's in this story, too. It's kind of a nailbiter, but not for the usual reasons. This story was written for McSweeney's and was performed as part of Selected Shorts' celebration of the 25th anniversary of this mighty indie publisher. Performed by Carmen Lynch, a comic who has performed stand-up on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and has appeared on series including Inside Amy Schumer and Life & Beth. And she has just the right touch with the story. After her reading, she talks to host Aparna Nancherla about how she approached such a tricky story.
At 10:45 AM central time on the morning of September 11th, 1957, Howard Miller signed on from WBBM with fifteen minutes of music, and an interview with Steve Allen. Howard Miller was born on December 7th, 1912 in Chicago. From 1945 through 1949 he was WIND's program director before beginning an eighteen year run as the Windy City's top-rated morning DJ. In between he acted in Jamboree!, Senior Prom, and The Big Beat. In September of 1957 Steve Allen was coming off starring in The Benny Goodman Story. He left The Tonight Show in January after three successful years when NBC asked Allen to focus on his Sunday prime time Steve Allen Show. By then Allen was famous as a humorist, musician, emcee, and actor. He was promoting his new song, “Gotta Have Something in the Bank, Frank” when he spoke to Miller.

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, another female celebrity has come out to encourage women to get divorced by the age of 30. And Patrick Mahomes still almost won the game. The defense performed all night, a great sign for sure. But this receiving corps is a hot mess. Before the game, the "black national anthem" was performed and it roiled many fans all over the country. I don't think it's singing the song every now and then that bothers people, I think it's something else. KU hosts Illinois Friday night in a battle of opposites.
