It's Halloween and we're taking some EXTRA SPOOKY* requests! Two tracks off of the Psychobilly Christmas compilation album - "Halloween on X-Mas" by The Coffin Caddies and "Silent Night, Deadly Night" by The White Coffin Terror - attempt to inject some frights into the festive, but do they succeed? And isn't there anyone who can tell Ian what psychobilly is all about?? *Spookiness results may vary. Twang not included. The intro sting in this episode is "Main Titles (Beetlejuice)" composed by Danny Elfman, and the ranking music is "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" performed by Harry Belafonte. Thank you to Kevin for these requests!
Join Sam and Kim as they crack a crisp white wine and delve into the murky mines of Susan Stokes-Chapman's The Shadow Key, a Gothic mystery that's perfect for spooky season.
Max and Doug talk about the Substance and Speak no Evil. Is there such thing as a chill parasite? Probably and we're going to find it and get it...

Today we're looking at how atoms talk to one another using light. This transactional interpretation of quantum mechanics, was developed by today's guest, Dr. John Cramer and former guest, Dr. Carver Mead back in the 1980s. We cover key concepts such as the double atom, handshake process, and the roles of Schrödinger and Heisenberg's approaches. The conversation explores wave function collapse, non-locality, and advanced potentials, along with the influence of ghost waves, time reversal, and phase relationships in energy transactions. We then examine the evolution of quantum mechanics interpretations, the intersection of physics and philosophy, and critiques of string theory. The episode concludes with insights into cosmology, the uniqueness of life, anti-aging research, and the development and material interpretations of the transactional interpretation.Tell us your thoughts in the comments! Get your DEMYSTICON 2024 tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/demysticon-2024-tickets-727054969987 In this episode we are exploring the origins of the metaphysics that underpin the modern approach to a scientific understanding of nature with Dr. Helen De Cruz, who is the Danforth Chair in the Humanities at Saint Louis University. Professor De Cruz' research focuses on philosophy of cognitive science and philosophy of religion, with an eye for historic progressions through ideologies across the ages. In her own words, she is guided by the following question: "We spend what seem on the face of it outlandish amounts of time and energy on these pursuits, which appear to be inessential in keeping us alive in the struggle for survival and reproduction. Why do we make life even more complicated than it already is?" We aim this line of inquiry at understanding the state of today's modern physical conception of the universe: a highly mathematized, often paradoxical interpretation of fundamental material reality. The Winter Solstice is coming! Let's talk about the longest night, AKA the shortest day, and how the modern celebration of Yule relates to its more ancient origins. We're also discussing some pagan mythology, including the Oak and Holly Kings, and then diving into the scarier folktales associated with this season, like Krampus, the Yule Cat and Gryla and her Yule Lads! But first, I have some things to say about the New Moon in Sagittarius and how its energy, paired with that of the Winter Solstice and the end of the year, makes us all think a little more passionately about what we want our next year to look like - and how that's pushed me to plant my own new seed. Happy Halloween and almost Day of the Dead! For this week's episode, I had a chance to chat with my old friend, Ryan Dungan Hurd, who is a master dream researcher. I thought it was the perfect time of year to chat about the sometimes scary, sometimes illuminating, but always powerful subject of sleep paralysis, where people can feel awake and held down, even though they are still in a sleep state. Ryan and I dive into all the fascinating ways that sleep paralysis and paying attention to/recording your dreams can impact your health, including: -What sleep paralysis is, and the myriad of ways it can show up -Facing your fears and processing your trauma -Spiritual experiences that can occur via paralysis -How the way you take care of your body during the day - and in the evening before bed - can impact not only sleep paralysis, but also your hormones -Sleep supports -Ways to use your dreams to help guide your health decisions in waking life And lots more! If you love experiencing the veil between the two worlds being its thinnest at this time of year, this is the perfect episode for you! Ryan Dungan Hurd (he/him) is an educator, author and dream researcher. He is interested in consciousness studies at the intersections of ecology, spirituality and material culture. His latest work is Lucid Talisman: Forgotten Lore. Ryan has been featured on NPR, CNN, Coast to Coast, Psychology Today, and many more. With a background in both archaeology and dream research, Ryan currently teaches graduate level courses at University for Peace in Costa Rica and National University in California. Ryan is a member of the International Association for the Study of Dreams and abides by their ethical guidelines. His website DreamStudies.org has been going strong since 2007. Happy Halloween! This week, we welcome Megan Sunday to the podcast to discuss martial arts and devil worship while covering the extra spooky, extra satany Walker, Texas Ranger episode "The Children of Halloween." Exactly how many children does cult leader Lucifer need to sacrifice on Halloween night? How did he know how to build a sophisticated bomb? Why are there two Kate McKinnon characters in this episode? All that, plus Skinner's obsession with Tony Danza finally pays off (sort of). If you like the show, give us a rating on Apple Podcasts. Sleepy Time Tales Podcast – Creating a restful mindset through relaxing bedtime stories
Be warned that traditional Halloween traditions may be a bit disturbing, but I left out the nasty stuff. This spooky episode shouldn't leave you sleepless. We continue the exploration of how pagan traditions were subsumed into Christianity, and how even some Christian traditions began to be viewed negatively after this association was created. We also finish off with a few fun traditions of regions like Brittany as we say goodbye to this particular book. I'll need to find other Halloween Stories to help you sleep next year. Happy Halloween! It's the time of the year where ghosts, witches, and the unknown are widely talked about... so join me for a spooky chat about Halloween! x joy
This week on the show, we finally get around to covering the super sexy/supremely silly Silk Stalkings. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Harry" is a baffling Halloween episode that barely matters because it's all a dream, but gets even dumber with the more you think about it. Why exactly is this boss dreaming about his employees having sex with strangers? Why do the characters seem to have some understanding that they're in a dream? And what exactly was that movie he was watching? It's a ridiculous show that is easily one of the stupidest things we've ever covered and it's great fun. This week on the show we're following Robert Englad from one nightmare to another as we cover Nightmare Cafe, an extremely short-lived series about a mysterious diner and some ghosts who are forced to work there. In this episode, the ghosts have to help a detective solve a murder that occurred either last year or 30 years ago. We also get some creepy sibling affection, some exaggerated drunk acting by one of the hardest working men in showbiz, and the most insane looking CG transformation ever committed to tape. Too bad the show kind of sucks. If you like the show, give us a rating on Apple Podcasts. And follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @weirdcenter (for now) or Instagram/Threads at @weirdnesspodcast (where you can suggest TV shows we should cover on the podcast)!
Spooky Season has begun! To get things started right, we're back in Springwood to talk about Freddy's Nightmares. In "Do Dreams Bleed?" we meet a new killer called The Chopper, who, as his name suggests, likes to chop up folks with an ax. It's probably either the troubled football star or the weirdo coach, but the episode doesn't seem to care and neither should we. Along the way, we see a real-life Barbie Dreamhouse kitchen, a basement freezer capable of holding three dead musicians, and a constant reminder to take our medicine. This show always delivers and this episode is no different. If you like the show, give us a rating on Apple Podcasts. Happy Halloween! To celebrate the spookiest day of the year, we returned to Springwood once more to journey into Freddy's Nightmares. And because it's Halloween, we picked an episode... that has nothing to do with Halloween and barely features the titular Freddy. What it does feature, though, is an alcoholic professor, a trip inside a computer, and an early Kyle Chandler performance. Also, is Freddy a patriot?

Hello everyone. Welcome to Norm Nathan’s Vault of Spookiness. We have a hauntingly good show for you today that has risen from the October 30th, 1995 archives. Let’s call this one Norm-O-Ween. Norm was joined by 2 guests. First up was Linda Spencer, author of Knock on Wood. As you may have guessed from the title it’s about all sorts of superstitions and the history behind them. I STILL have this book in the Nesbitt Tomb of Tomes. During the interview a question arises regarding witches riding brooms. There are other sweeping thoughts that will whisk you away because we take a few calls. Tony on a pay phone at Logan Airport with some broom news Joan from S. Weymouth with more info from the ‘newsbroom’ Helen from Weymouth Debbie in Malden Kevin in Abbington – who then disappears? A caller who adds some other cool ‘witch-story.’ Norma from the N. End on hats, umbrellas, poles and cracks. And our male listeners get some advice on how to meet a mate by naming clean socks, getting in bed backwards and dreaming…what? Some static starts to come through on the tape…and you know what that means? Time to clean the tape deck! Next is Haunted Hotels: A Guide to American and Canadian Inns by Robin Meade. They talk about/mention hotels in MA including Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury. Now they only mention it here, but I will share a story with you. That’s where my wife and I had our experience with the ghost of Jerusha Howe. Norm also refers to a previous guest Laurie Jacobson who wrote Hollywood Haunted and Robin has some great stories to add. Episode 110, Norm-O-Ween, howls it’s way to your ears, now.
Tuberculosis was one of the leading causes of death in the early 1900s. During this time, many people journeyed from far away to dry, arid climates like Arizona's to help them heal. In 1934, the Arizona State Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Tempe opened to the public and helped many live out their days with ease. The extravagant white building tucked in Papago Park was seen as a haven by patients and by the state. But since its closing and as other buildings have occupied that land, people are said to have had eerie experiences there. In this week's episode of Valley 101, a podcast by The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, we tell the history of this restorative hospital and the potentially otherworldly spirits that remain. Then, Ray Mansky leaves a voice recording stating that Johnny Winjoe has been missing for 6 days but the fish, and other aquatic life, in Johnny's aquarium are doing quite well. Ray Mansky is followed by the answer to last week's movie trivia question. After that, as usual, there's an elaborate ceremony for the winner that ends in a gruesome ritual that we don't really talk about. At least not here.
‘Tis the Season of Spookiness and we kick off the month with a visit to the gravesite of one of the true “Masters of the Macabre”, Edgar Allan Poe. While in Baltimore, Maryland, we stayed at the Lord Baltimore Hotel where Vince Wilson gave us a tour of the old (and purportedly haunted) hotel, after which we walked outside and down the street for a couple blocks to an old cemetery and underground catacombs. Along the way and while at the cemetery, Vince gave us some background about some of the “residents” of the graveyard.Next we make a call to Paul Prater in Little Rock, Arkansas, who gives us some tips, suggestions and advice on how we can create a “Ghost Walk” in our own backyard. Hmm. Well, we made a phone call and Vince filled in the part of the tour at the Lord Baltimore that was missing. Later we contacted Paul Prater on a Zoom call and recorded the second portion both with audio and video. You can view the video on YouTube by Clicking Here. Last time we discussed nightmare man Freddy Krueger, and this week we're turning our attention to another nightmare man: Tim Allen. Today on the podcast we're discussing one of the many Home Improvement Halloween episodes: "A Night to Dismember." Youngest son Dark Mark and his goth friend Ronnie just wants to make a horror movie but Jill is worried he actually wants to kill his family, because she's an idiot. After watching this episode, we're pretty sure Mark only wanted to make this movie so he could hang out with Tool Girl Heidi wearing a tight dress.
Things are getting scary... and sexy! This week, we're discussing Freddy's Nightmares, specifically the season 1 finale "Safe Sex," an epsiode that doesn't really talk about safe sex at all. But it does have two nerds obsessed with a goth chick (who in turn is obsessed with a certain burned maniac). This show is a wild ride, full of bad puns, weird insults (spud boy?), and a woman getting turned into a smoke cloud and inhaled.
Do you ever get that sinking feeling in your stomach that something is just...off? Where do you think we go when we die? After I lost my dad in 2017, friends asked whether I felt his ghostly presence or witnessed any signs of the afterlife. Here's what I told them. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
