When Mark was six, his mother took him into Manhattan every weekend for singing and ballet lessons. When he returned to school each Monday and showed his fellow Bronx classmates what he had learned, the class would gather around and beat him up. Mark's mother smartened up and enrolled him in karate lessons, but those came to a halt when the karate teacher beat him up. When Mark was twelve, his parents took him to a nightclub. There, live on stage, was Rodney Dangerfield doing his act. At that moment, he knew the path he had to follow. Mark has headlined in all the major casinos and clubs across the country and has appeared many times on both The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman. He has had both HBO and Showtime specials and has been the featured act at the Montreal Comedy Festival. He has written for and guest-starred in Mad About You – starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. His new book is available where ever books are sold titled: Why Not?: Lessons on Comedy, Courage, and Chutzpah

What Are Ag Gag Bills And Are They Still A Current Issue? Charles Horn • Contact: linkedin.com/in/charles-horn-762a911 • Book - Meat Logic: Why Do We Eat Animals #CharlesHorn #Veganism #AwardWinningWriter Charles Horn is an award-winning and Emmy-nominated writer.Horn has authored Meat Logic: Why Do We Eat Animals, a book examining justifications for eating meat and other animal products. The book argues for veganism. Why do we eat animals? Most of us think this question is absurd, but if pressed to answer we tend to provide one of a number of rationalizations. For example: "Humans are omnivores."“Every living thing eats other living things.”"Animals don't possess human cognition."“Humans need to eat animals to live.” We've all heard these arguments before, and many others too. Maybe we've even used these arguments ourselves. But are they logically sound? Or is eating animals in fact a prejudice, involving a thought process similar to the thought process behind racism and sexism? How exactly could the subject of eating animals teach us anything about prejudice and human rights? And supposing humans actually did need to eat animals to stay healthy, what can logic tell us about how we should act in such a situation? In Meat Logic: Why Do We Eat Animals, it examines 31 categories of rationalizations for eating animals and puts them all to the test. Do our thoughts and actions stand up to rational scrutiny or not? And if our thought process is ever failing us, can this be illuminated? Reading this book, You may never think of food the same way again. Charles Horn was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, He has a Ph.D. from Princeton University and holds five degrees in engineering and mathematics. In this episode of Tattoos & Torah, Rabbi Iggy talks to global ultra-endurance athlete and the founder of the 5.8 Global Adventure Series, Charlie Engle. Charlie shares his story of extreme resilience – which includes running across the Sahara Desert – and how suffering can lead to extraordinary growth. Charlie offers tangible steps toward recovery so you too can practice more mindfulness and not just check the AA Meeting box for the sake of it. He gets real about his relationship with running and how important it is to lessen the noise, so you can connect with your true self. Charlie's memoir, Running Man, became a bestseller shortly after it was published in 2016. While the book details his inspiring life story, it is about more than just running. It is about facing demons, overcoming impossible odds, keeping your sense of humor, and discovering the redemptive power of putting one foot in front of the other, even when you feel like you can't keep going. His motivation to run and tackle extreme adventures stems from his battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol. Charlie has been in recovery since July 23, 1992, and he credits a large part of his recovery to the purposeful devotion and emotional release he experiences while running. He has said that “Drugs and alcohol were my way out. Running was my way through.” Charlie is a dynamic speaker who has enthralled audiences around the world, from keynotes at the Boston Marathon and Google to the National Geographic Society, the United Nations, and the deck of a nuclear-class U.S. Naval aircraft carrier. He's been featured in the New York Times, National Geographic Weekend, Outside, Runner's World, NPR's All Things Considered, Men's Journal, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He lives with his wife, Astacianna Hatcher, in Durham, North Carolina. Charlie's Areas of Expertise: Ultra-endurance athletics, addiction, and recovery overcoming adversity. Today's show has a 15 min news recap and then I talk to Corey for about 45 minutes. Thanks so much for listening. Please give the show 5 stars and a review on Apple and Spotify Stand Up is a daily podcast. I book, host, edit, post and promote new episodes with brilliant guests every day. Please subscribe now for as little as 5$ and gain access to a community of over 740 awesome, curious, kind, funny, brilliant, generous souls. Corey's love for comedy started when he was a toddler watching Carson (and then Leno) from a blanket on the floor next to his daddy, Dale. By the second grade, Corey had already informed his teachers that he would be a comedian and didn't ever consider another profession. At 16, he worked up the nerve to do his first open mic (lying about his age to be admitted into the club). Corey spent the next decade hawking jokes in dingy bars and comedy clubs at night, then waking up to do random jobs to supplement his income. He was a house painter, retail associate, motorcycle salesman, urine sample collector, flower delivery boy, hotel maid, college textbook reseller, and hay bailer... at one point, he ran a family bakery with his mother and sister where he was considered the "Head Quiche Chef." In 2015 Corey traded in his chef's hat for a full-time trucker hat. Under Corey's trucker hat is a giant head, and under that are surprisingly thought-provoking rants on society, culture, and politics. His stand-up blends humor and common sense into a high-energy act full of silly physical comedy, recounting wild stories and emotionally-driven tangents. Corey dreams of being in the small club of EGOT winners. His creative output is nearly insatiable and propelled by his passion for writing, performance, and silliness. Choosing to live in his hometown of Chickamauga, when Corey isn't on the road touring internationally as part of the wellRED Comedy Tour, he takes hours-long walks through the woods, talks on the phone with his momma, and makes live videos to destigmatize mental health. You can find daily videos and writing across Corey's platforms. He makes viral character videos and political satire sketches, writes daily for his Substack subscribers, works on his upcoming second book, and produces more podcasts than you can count. Corey's undeniable charm has garnered fans like Whoopi Goldberg, Chelsea Clinton, Leslie Jones, and Dave Bautista. His greatest honor has been connecting with people of all kinds, meeting fans on the road, and making his family proud, even if they cringe a little Check out all things Jon Carroll Follow and Support Pete Coe Pete on YouTube Pete on Twitter Pete On Instagram Pete Personal FB page Stand Up with Pete FB page
