RJ tells us the Pirates have it down to 4 players that they'll continue to negotiate with, Marcelo Mayer, Henry Davis, Jordan Lawler and Jack Leiter and they'll draft whoever takes the smallest deal, so he leans towards that being Mayer or Davis because Lawler has a commitment to Vanderbilt and Leiter will command top dollar or manipulate the system to land with a team he wants to sign with. All that being said, RJ has Mayer as the top player on his personal big board. If the Steelers did draft Mayer, RJ thinks it would take at least 3 years before he could make it to the majors. If they went the Henry Davis route, RJ says two-way catchers are very hard to come by and Davis fits that mold. RJ says there isn't some generational talent to be taken with the first overall pick. He also shares with us why so many have soured on Kumar Rocker. RJ tells us that if the Pirates save money on the first pick to spend it later, there will be many across the league that criticize them for getting "cute" with the number one overall pick. David Bednar's brother turned some heads last night and RJ thinks he'll be a first round pick now. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
