POPULARITY
Just how lame is LinkedIn? AI-written tomes that infuse unrelated personal stories with pop psychology, business advice, and sales pitches. Packed with way too much information about personal health conditions, self-applause for numbers of followers, authors "living their best lives" (with self-aggrandizing Business Class/champagne selfies)... even using aging, sick, or deceased parents as the basis for posts! Once the home of quality business advice, social selling, and work opportunities - LinkedIn is becoming a cesspool of not-so-humble, inauthentic bragging and people using "pods" to jack their numbers of likes and comments. The“Saturday Morning Show” Sit-Down Conversation with host Glenn van Zutphen and co-host Neil Humphreys talks with the Founder and CEO of Black Marketing, Chris J Reed. He has spent over a decade helping people get the most out of their time on LinkedIn (while writing books about how to do it effectively). Listen to his thoughts on all of the above and how you can make the most of your profile and posts!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Summary In this episode, Justin Campbell interviews Chris J. Reed, the CEO of Black Marketing and a LinkedIn marketing expert. They discuss the importance of personal branding on LinkedIn and how it is more effective than company page marketing. They also talk about the power of engagement on LinkedIn and the impact of automation on the platform. Chris shares insights on LinkedIn awards and the evolution of video content on the platform. The conversation concludes with a discussion on Chris's book, 'How to Become a LinkedIn Rockstar,' and the benefits of using Sales Navigator. Takeaways Personal branding on LinkedIn is more effective than company page marketing. Engagement, particularly through comments, is key on LinkedIn. Automation on LinkedIn is not recommended and can damage personal and company brands. LinkedIn awards, such as Top Voice, are often based on arbitrary criteria and can be misleading. Video content on LinkedIn is not as popular as other platforms, and the focus should be on written content. Sales Navigator is a powerful tool for generating leads and qualifying prospects on LinkedIn. Follow Chris on LinkedIn here Follow Justin on LinkedIn here
This is a special episode of our LinkedInSmart Podcast in which we have asked 4 of our previous guests Belinda Aramide, Sam Rathling, Tyron Guiliani and Chris J. Reed to talk about Content, Direct messaging and Social Selling on LinkedIn.
Chris J. Reed, also known as “the only CEO with a mohawk”, was the latest guest on the EMEA Recruitment podcast. We spoke to him about his content marketing work with leaders on LinkedIn. From his home in sunny Singapore, Chris told our Founder, Paul Toms, and Senior Consultant, Jenny Callum, about making the move from Newcastle – via London – to Asia. It was the fact that he didn’t know anybody in Singapore that led Chris to start using LinkedIn. In fact, he got his first three jobs there through the platform. Chris founded Black Marketing to help other people become rock stars on LinkedIn, as he found that no one was doing it – or, they didn’t have the time. His signature mohawk hairstyle has become an ice-breaker for Chris in a conservative country – even Jenny found him by searching “mohawk” on LinkedIn! Chris was recently praised for bringing a different type of diversity to business, which he puts down to his confidence and authenticity. It’s a top tip that he gives to other people; believe in what you’re doing and people don’t care what you look like. Chris has inevitably had some difficult moments to overcome – listen to the full episode for his story about finding himself on the front cover of a Singaporean tabloid! – but his positivity has enabled him to create a business that continues to grow six years later. We asked him for his top tip for mastering LinkedIn, so, if you haven’t read his book, you can learn from Chris’ experience on the EMEA Recruitment podcast. Chris also revealed his musical guilty pleasure – it’s one for the 80s kids out there!
