Season Fifteen begins. The first song I remember hearing from this album was I Should Have Known It. But I didn't hear it on the radio. A good friend of mine, Kris Klyne, who is also an immensely talented songwriter and musician, was over at my place as we were sharing a couple of rather delicious craft beers. He asked me if I'd ever heard this song. I clearly hadn't reached Mojo in my Petty deep dive but as soon as I heard it I knew I had to prioritize listening to the rest of the record. I have a few guests lined up this season and we have a fantastic collection of songs to work our way through in the next four to five months! This record is stacked with phenomenal deep cuts and I can't wait to dig into it fully on this season of the podcast. We were due to start Season Fifteen today and start thinking about Mojo, but the day of recording, well the legend that was Dolly Parton passed away and I decided to write an episode in her honour. I'll come completely clean - I could never call myself more than a greatest hits fan of Dolly's music because I haven't listened to a lot of it, but every song I've ever heard her sing I've enjoyed, particularly vocally. So I thought what I'd do is research her life and give you a more biographical episode with some interview clips from the lady herself. That way, I learn about an artist I didn't know that much about and maybe some of you will too.If you want to donate to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, you can find their website here: https://imaginationlibrary.comDon't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show.Follow: https://linktr.ee/tompettyprojectListen: https://pod.link/1580769475All music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. Hey Heal Squad! What better way to celebrate the back-to-school season than with one of TV's most iconic high schoolers: the one and only Jennie Garth, aka Kelly Taylor from Beverly Hills, 90210. Since leaving West Beverly, Jennie has built an incredible life and career…. starring in What I Like About You, competing on Dancing with the Stars, raising three daughters, writing her memoir I Choose Me, and creating a whole new chapter around what it really means to choose yourself. Today, Jennie opens up to Maria about the rock-bottom period after her divorce and the biggest mistake she says she made: isolating herself instead of letting people support her. She shares what actually helped her climb out, like friendship, nature, therapy, creativity, and becoming determined to feel joy again. They also look back at the 90210 years, what it was like to spend her entire young adulthood on set, why leaving the show felt like a grief process, and how the cast eventually found their way back to one another later in life. Plus, Jennie gets candid about her health journey… from a shocking jet ski accident with Luke Perry to severe memory issues that led her to Dr. Amen and a brain scan. This one is part nostalgia, part healing, and a powerful reminder that sometimes choosing yourself starts with simply deciding you want to feel better, and staying persistent until you do. Enjoy! HEALERS & HEAL LINERS Isolation Makes Hard Times Harder: After her divorce, Jennie admits she isolated herself out of shame and now wishes she had let her friends support her sooner. Getting outside, hiking with friends, meeting new people and allowing laughter back into her life helped her begin climbing out of that period. Pay Attention to What Your Brain + Body Are Telling You: Jennie's severe memory issues became so concerning that she feared early-onset Alzheimer's or dementia. A brain scan revealed irregularities that Dr. Amen could be connected to a past head injury, while Jennie also believes then-unrecognized perimenopause was contributing. You Have to Be Persistent in Your Quest to Feel Better: Jennie says she became determined to feel joy again, trying different therapies, workshops, spending time in nature and eventually rediscovering creativity through designing a home. Her takeaway: change required consistency, figuring out what kind of life she actually wanted, and doing more of what made her feel alive. What do you do when you've lost everything? Pivotal Moment: A 2015 wildfire destroyed his home, including the 180-page hard-copy manuscript for his latest novel, Gridless Near Seattle. He rebuilt over and over again, but after a wildfire took out his beautiful log home in the mountains of western Washington along with the 185 pages of his novel, Thomas couldn't bring himself to go back to it. That momentum-killer of loss held him for 7 years - until the right messenger showed up to remind him he's a writer, a talented one, and that he needed to sit down and get started again. He restarted the novel, changed the title to Osprey Gold, and incorporated real-life experiences like his loss of a newly planted vinyard, thanks to highly motivated bears, and the pivot to a legal cannabis growing farm. Curious? Listen to the episode, and then buy the book. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Listeners, now it's your turn: What will you get back to work on, after hearing Thomas' story of resilience and persistence? Who are the people who advocated for you, who are the people you'll listen to when you need a champion and cheerleader? --- From Thomas Lion I've lived a long, colorful life — retiring from major marijuana wholesaling at 25, followed by five fugitive years that ended in an Unsolved Mysteries capture and years incarcerated teaching GED classes. My 1998 memoir was later optioned by Lions Gate. Between Osprey Gold and the Unsolved Mysteries American Fugitive memoir arc that came before it — the long road, the phoenix rise after losing everything in the 2015 wildfires, the rebuild, and the late‑life return to the writing rodeo — I've got a story your Boomer audience will connect with deeply. It's one of those rare indie author journeys that's truly worth telling. My writing comes from lived experience and resilience, with Osprey Gold shaped by the emotional engine of a modern‑day family facing crisis and reconciliation in polarized rural western America. Patrick Moorhead and Daniel Newman break down Marvell's $120 billion custom-silicon deal with Google, Qualcomm-owned Modular's open-source compiler push at ModCon 2026, and state-level pushback against AI data center construction in Texas and Pennsylvania. The hosts also flip roles to debate whether NVIDIA's reduced Ohio financing guarantee signals cracks in the AI infrastructure buildout. The handpicked topics for this week are: Marvell and Google Finalize $120 Billion Custom-Silicon Deal: Marvell secured a six-and-a-half-year agreement with Google worth close to $20 billion annually, alongside a warrant covering approximately 7% of the company. The deal extends Marvell's position across all three major hyperscalers through attach silicon: accelerators, optical and networking connectivity, memory interfaces, and near-memory compute built around the TPU ecosystem. Patrick Moorhead noted Marvell's CXL memory-pooling work signals where next-generation architecture is heading beyond current TPU designs. (The Decode) Modular Delivers on Open Compiler Promise at ModCon 2026: Modular open-sourced its Mojo compiler under Apache 2.0 and launched Modular Cloud, a platform letting enterprises arbitrate across both AI models and underlying hardware architectures. Moorhead reported the update removes device restrictions from the Max license and adds support for AWS Trainium and Qualcomm's own data center accelerators, with an alliance program set to launch by year-end. He argued the move gives Qualcomm indirect revenue exposure across every token served, extending its footprint from data center to edge, robotics, and industrial IoT. (The Decode) OpenAI Balances a Safety Push With Codex-Driven Enterprise Wins: OpenAI paused reinforcement learning for its newest model and strengthened its data-retention policies, while high-profile Codex results—including Asana compressing an estimated five-year engineering effort into two weeks—showcased its enterprise impact. Daniel Newman saw the timing as an effort to reset the narrative around safety and transparency after months of competitive pressure from Anthropic. Patrick Moorhead also examined OpenAI's use of activation classifiers, which monitor internal model activity token by token and trigger deeper review only when risks are detected—a safeguard that adds roughly 20% to inference costs. (The Decode) Texas and Pennsylvania Tighten Rules on AI Data Center Development: Governors in both states issued new restrictions within two weeks of each other, with Texas pausing new approvals pending an audit, and Pennsylvania adding fresh permitting requirements. Moorhead reported that at least 40% of Texas's planned data centers run on self-sustaining natural gas power and never touch the ERCOT grid. Newman connected the political friction to a communications gap, noting recent polling shows more support for a nuclear plant nearby than a new AI data center. (The Decode) Micron Commits $10 Billion to Boise Research Labs on Top of $50 Billion Fab Buildout: Micron unveiled a decade-long research lab investment in Boise, Idaho, alongside its existing $50 billion fabrication expansion, part of a CapEx program Newman noted totals roughly a quarter trillion dollars in commitments. Both hosts framed the spending as reinforcing memory's strategic status alongside leading-edge logic, with Newman citing HBM's technical differentiation as harder for competitors to replicate than standard NAND or DRAM. Moorhead pointed to Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra's argument that domestic memory manufacturing will determine AI leadership. (The Decode) The Flip: Is NVIDIA's Ohio Scale-Back a Capex Crack or Disciplined Structuring?: NVIDIA reduced its financing guarantee for OpenAI's Ohio data center from $250 billion to under $120 billion, a shift Moorhead argued as the first visible sign of balance-sheet discipline overtaking the demand story. Newman countered that the adjustment is one component of a financing platform exceeding $600 billion, with the ceiling free to rise toward $350 billion as compute commitments grow. The Flip assigns Patrick Moorhead and Daniel Newman opposing sides of a debate, not necessarily their own positions. The exercise tests how far each argument holds up. (The Flip) Micron ($MU) Reclaims $1,000 for First Close Since Early July: Micron shares closed above $1,000 on Monday, August 17, with analyst price targets extending to $2,200 as HBM capacity books through 2027. Newman tied the stock's volatility to broader credit and bond-market conditions, including rising long-term Treasury yields. Moorhead noted the White House recently discouraged Apple from sourcing Chinese memory, a factor he sees supporting the move. (Bulls and Bears) Analog Devices ($ADI) Posts First-Ever $4 Billion Quarter: Analog Devices reported fiscal Q3 2026 results Wednesday, August 19, beating on revenue and EPS with a Q4 guide above consensus. Moorhead noted the company's data center business, filed under its communications segment, grew 84%. He argued Analog Devices under-tells that story relative to peers like Coherent, which market similar exposure more directly. Are you worried that your best performances are behind you? Do you ever step up to the blocks—or walk into a room—and feel entirely underestimated because of your age or size? Or worry that your time out of the water will prevent you from success? This week on Champion's Mojo, we are sitting down with a true generational talent who is completely rewriting the rules of super agers and performance in athletics. Jeannette Brits, a 65-year-old Australian powerhouse, recently did the unthinkable: she shattered the women's 65-69 age division world record in the 800-meter freestyle by almost 30 seconds, clocking a breathtaking sub-10-minute time and also broke the 200 and 400 world records as well. But Jeannette didn't achieve this by being the tallest, the strongest, or the most naturally gifted swimmer in the water. Standing at 5'3" (160cm) and having taken a massive 30-year hiatus from the sport to raise a family and build a career, Jeannette relies on a ferocious work ethic, a "dog-with-a-bone" racing mentality, and the courage to train daily with a squad of men 15 to 20 years her junior. If you've ever felt like the deck is stacked against you, or if you are looking for the motivation to finally make your own comeback, Jeannette's story is the ultimate blueprint for relentless endurance. In this episode, we dive into:The Comeback Blueprint: How to successfully and safely return to high-level training after decades away from your sport.Using Doubt as Fuel: The exact mental framework Jeannette uses when competitors judge a book by its cover and expect her to go to the back of the lane.Outworking the Advantage: How to overcome a lack of natural height or physical leverage through sheer grit, technical focus, and brutal consistency. The HRT Conversation: Jeannette's candid reality on achieving world-dominating endurance without Hormone Replacement Therapy.Balancing the Grind: How mixing grueling 27km pool weeks with joyful, soul-filling ocean swims keeps injuries and burnout at bay.Tune in to discover why it's never too late to get back in the water, toughen up, and completely surprise yourself. If you loved this episode, please consider leaving us a five-star review on Apple Podcasts— more masters swimmers can find the show.Email us at HELLO@ChampionsMojo.com. Columbus, OH-based composer Brian Harnetty describes himself as an “interdisciplinary artist using sound and listening to foster social change.” While the meaning of such a description may not be immediately apparent, Harnetty’s approach becomes clearer when reading through his CV: he frequently uses archival material such as field and historic recordings to create sound collages, capturing the essence of a subject from the fragments of it he’s collected. Some specific examples of his work in this area are recording projects with the Appalachian Sound Archives in Kentucky, the Sun Ra/El Saturn Creative Audio Archive in Chicago, and the Anne Grimes Collection in the Library of Congress. Harnetty’s work has garnered acclaim from publications ranging from The Wire, to Mojo, to Aquarium Drunkard, all three of which honored his 2022 release Words and Silences, a sonic portrait of the Trappist monk and writer Thomas Merton, on their “year-end best” lists. Here how works/performances by Igor Stravinsky, Frederic Rzewski, and Addie Graham informed his creative development.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
