In this episode of The Mark Haney Show, entrepreneur and author Daniel Baarns—founder of Baarns Detailing—shares the mindset behind his book Just Start and why action beats perfection every time. Daniel wrote Just Start to challenge the fear, overthinking, and perfectionism that keep so many people from ever taking the first step. Drawing from his experience building a mobile detailing business, he explains how momentum is created through action—and how clarity comes after you begin, not before. This conversation explores the heart of the entrepreneurial revolution happening at the local level and how the Backyard Advantage—community, enthusiasm, and relationship building—plays a critical role in personal branding, leadership, and long-term success. Topics include: • Lessons from Daniel's book Just Start • Overcoming perfectionism and fear • Building a business before everything feels “ready” • Creating a meaningful personal mission statement • The role of community building and relationships • Insights connected to the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy • How action fuels momentum in venture capital and angel investing If you're stuck waiting for the perfect moment, this episode is your reminder that progress comes from movement. The most important step is to just start.

(She thinks I'm an actual influencer, haha.) We braved the winter weather and did an interview while walking towards the Museum of Natural History. I always tell people that if you want to explain what you do, try explaining it like you're talking to a kid. Well, this is my attempt! I could have explained it to her in way more complex terms and she would have understood me – she's a smart cookie. She asked me some pretty deep questions! But you get what I mean. Reflecting on our interview, I realized it's really important to have these kinds of conversations with kids. I share some life skills I think will be really important for Nylah, as well as recommended books, the reality behind what people see online, and the pitfalls and opportunities social media affords. Send us a textWhat if authority wasn't about being the best closer, but about creating the safest decision for your buyer? Grant sits down with Doug Brown—CEO of CEO Sales Strategies—to explore how shared context, credible associations, and personal ROI can transform ordinary sales conversations into trust-driven commitments. From New England roots to global brands, Doug shows why familiarity is a strategic lever, not a vanity metric. We dig into the gap between “good” sales teams and those viewed as market authorities. The surprise: status and positioning can tilt the field before price is ever discussed. Using vivid examples—from first-class optics to iconic venues—Doug explains how perception amplifies pricing power. But he also grounds it in craft: speak to the business ROI and the personal ROI driving real human decisions, whether that's safety, reputation, or career risk. Buyers sign when they feel both the numbers and the nerves are addressed. The heart of the conversation is resilience. Doug recounts a costly client pivot that vaporized roughly $2M, then shares the mental and operational playbook that pulled him forward: stop treating symptoms, remove root causes, and take one meaningful step every day toward a clear North Star. We also get practical with a 90-day revenue plan that works without heroics—set a truthful target, do the math on KPIs, reengage dormant clients, increase touchpoints, and define your ideal right-fit buyer to align message and market. We close with a grounded take on AI: use it to accelerate research and outreach, but never outsource the human-to-human moments that make complex deals possible. If you're ready to sell with authority, protect your margins, and build pipeline you can trust, this conversation gives you the mindset and methods to start today. Your company brand can be sold. Your personal brand can't. That's why I've been investing in StephanSpencer.com alongside my agency for decades—and it's paying dividends in the age of AI. In this week's Marketing Speak episode, my longtime collaborator Greg Merrilees of Studio1 Design walks through the complete evolution of my personal brand website—from a simple WordPress blog in 2004 to a comprehensive authority platform that attracts 9-figure clients. Greg reveals why your About page needs storytelling instead of just credentials, how to structure case studies that convert rather than just collect testimonials, the bridging page strategy for managing multiple brand properties, why every page needs one clear and relevant call-to-action, and how to customize social proof for maximum impact on each specific page. If you're being found online but not getting the caliber of clients you deserve, your personal brand website is likely the bottleneck. This episode is a masterclass in fixing that. Before I went on my current podcast guesting hiatus, I sat down with Howie Chan. I met Howie in person earlier this year at Matt McGarry's Newsletter Marketing Summit. I thought he was fun, friendly, and thoughtful — just like he is in his podcast, Influence Anyone. This podcast is all about applied influence psychology. Each episode, Howie sit downs with experts and practitioners to uncover the hidden psychology that helps you influence yourself (mastering your mindset, habits, and decisions) and get buy-in from others (your team, clients, and audiences.) In this episode, we talk about my recent topic of study: trust. We break down what I'm learning about how trust works, what it looks like to build a trust-first creator business, and why some creators frankly don't care about that. We also talk about personal branding — Howie dug up a cringe video I made in 2012 — and what I'd do if I were starting over in 2026. What actually cuts through now is the messenger, not the message. In this video, I break down why the shift from "How-to" to "How I…" content matters, how connection beats conversion, and why wisdom earned through lived experience is the real currency in a post-AI world. People don't buy from experts—they buy from humans they believe. If you're tired of chasing trends and fighting for attention, this is the path forward: share your wisdom, not just your knowledge. Send us a textIf people can't read your value, they can't reward it. We sit down with brand strategist Jen Dalton to turn personal branding from a fuzzy idea into a practical plan you can execute, one small step at a time. Our conversation starts with a simple truth—telepathy isn't a strategy—and builds toward a reputation roadmap that helps you define your strengths, choose the right words, and create monthly evidence that moves you closer to the work you want.We break down the crucial difference between business branding and personal branding, then focus on what actually builds trust: authenticity, vulnerability, and stories with real lessons. Jen shares how to stop confusing personal branding with bragging and start sharing useful insights, mistakes, and wins that help your audience. We talk about finding your niche, making your reputation visible on LinkedIn and video, and why Gen Z rewards leaders who are genuine and clear. You'll hear practical tools—DiSC, StrengthsFinder, Enneagram—for surfacing blind spots, plus a simple exercise to pick three strengths, write a mission statement, and align your language so people perceive you the way you intend. From there, we get tactical. Learn how to build a 12–24 month reputation roadmap, create one proof point each month, and use platforms strategically to show your value without shouting. We discuss leadership branding, aligning actions with words, and building four networks—peers, prospects, giving back, and fun—to stay relevant and resilient. Grant shares his AI Business Accelerator as a live example of building evidence for a future-focused brand, and we explore creative ways to upskill, serve, and stand out without trying to be “an influencer.”Ready to own your story and make your value visible? Personal branding in the workplace is no longer optional. It's essential. As professionals navigate a competitive landscape shaped by constant innovation and visibility, the ability to define, communicate, and sustain one's personal brand has become a key factor in professional success and organizational growth. Sima Dahl, CSP, has built her career helping individuals and companies harness that power. As an internationally recognized keynote speaker and creator of The #SwayFactor, Sima teaches professionals how to promote themselves with confidence and authenticity. Her approach goes far beyond image—it's about creating influence, driving engagement, and aligning personal value with business goals. Through her framework, Sima shows that personal branding isn't about self-promotion; it's about self-awareness and contribution. When employees understand how to position themselves effectively, they naturally become stronger advocates for their organizations. The result is a workforce that communicates with purpose, attracts opportunities, and helps businesses grow from the inside out. For organizations, embracing personal branding in the workplace means empowering employees to represent the company's mission and culture through their own networks. It supports recruitment, retention, and sales by humanizing the brand experience. When people see passionate, engaged professionals sharing their insights, they connect with the business behind them on a deeper level. Sima's work underscores an important shift in how companies view marketing and leadership. In today's business environment, influence isn't just reserved for executives or spokespeople—it's distributed across every employee who interacts with clients, partners, or audiences online. That's where the real power of personal branding comes into play. With The #SwayFactor, Sima has redefined how professionals think about their personal presence. Her method combines proven marketing principles with a human-centered philosophy that encourages authenticity, accountability, and alignment. It's not about being louder; it's about being clearer. Not about getting noticed, but about getting remembered for the right reasons. Her influence extends beyond the stage. Through her speaking, training, and consulting work, Sima has helped thousands of professionals take control of their reputation, strengthen their confidence, and create opportunities they once thought were out of reach. Organizations that adopt her strategies often see measurable gains in employee engagement, brand loyalty, and overall performance. For leaders, the message is clear: when employees are empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to the workplace, they don't just do better work—they help build better businesses. And for individuals, it's a reminder that your personal brand is one of your greatest career assets. Personal branding in the workplace continues to shape the future of leadership and communication. With experts like Sima Dahl leading the charge, the movement toward authenticity and influence isn't slowing down—it's becoming the standard for how professionals rise and how organizations thrive. Send us a textReady to stop grinding and start scaling? We dive into a clear, no-fluff blueprint for using agentic AI to grow sales, improve margins, and reclaim your time. Instead of one-off prompts, you'll learn how autonomous agents perceive context, plan multi-step workflows, make decisions, and execute tasks across your stack—then learn from outcomes to get better week after week.We walk through the five domains where agents deliver immediate wins: customer support that resolves faster and cuts cost per ticket; lead generation that researches prospects and tailors outreach to lower CAC; marketing engines that ideate, create, test, and iterate across channels; back-office automation that reconciles books, tracks invoices, and manages inventory; and forecasting that sharpens demand, revenue, and cash flow accuracy. Along the way, we plug real numbers into the conversation—10x service cost reductions, 40–60% time-to-output cuts, and double-digit revenue lift—so you can benchmark your own progress with confidence.Measurement is the unlock. You'll get a compact KPI framework tied to the P&L: revenue growth rate, ROI per initiative, gross margin improvement, operating cash flow accuracy, CAC and lifetime value, time-to-output, error rates, cost per transaction, CSAT, and NPS. We also share practical guardrails to deploy safely: approvals, escalation paths, SOPs, and team training that make adoption stick. The human edge—strategy, empathy, and brand—stays at the center while agents handle the repetitive execution. If you've wondered how to leverage AI without losing what makes your business special, this is your roadmap.Subscribe for more playbooks, share this with a founder who needs it, and leave a review to tell us which KPI you'll track first. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of Follow The Brand! Welcome to Building Brand You™, the podcast that helps you accelerate your success by unlocking your greatest asset – you.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The power of your personal brand lies not in your own perception of what it is, but in how consistently and authentically others experience you. It exists in the world around you.   Trust takes time to build and telling your stories consistently, frequently and over time, not only gives us personal gravitas and authenticity, it allows others to remember what we stand for, where we fit in their world, and what we can be counted on for. In other words, it starts with you.   The seven lenses explored—Healthy Mindset, Healthy Body, Healthy Brand, Healthy Business, Healthy Workplace, Healthy Systems, and Healthy Planet—are reaffirmed as interconnected ecosystems that create profound, often unforeseen impacts.   Expanding your influence from building brand you to building beyond you - into a "constellation of thinking and learning" - allows you to contribute much more meaningfully to the greater good.   Directing your privilege to forge new spaces for inclusion and collective leadership holds you responsible for pushing against conventional methods and helping those with less advantage.     ABOUT KYM HAMER: Kym is an international leadership and personal branding thought leader, an executive coach, and a programme design and facilitation practitioner. In this episode, Alex Quin sits down with Christian Pombo of Creative Real Estate Deals to unpack how he moved over $20 million in off-market real estate deals in the past year using creative finance strategies. From his start in pre-med to becoming a wholesale dealmaker, Christian shares actionable insights on wholesaling, sub-to deals, seller finance, and how he built a community of over 500 investors in a thriving paid WhatsApp group.Episode Outline:[00:00] Intro & High School Roots [03:00] How Christian Pivoted from Pre-Med to Real Estate [05:50] Early Real Estate Influences in His Family [08:15] Real Estate Seemed "Played Out" at First [10:30] Why Wholesaling and Creative Finance Clicked [13:15] Sub-to vs Seller Financing Explained [18:50] Recent $400K Deal Example in Homestead [23:00] Objections Sellers Have About Sub-To [27:20] Off-Market vs On-Market Property Deals [33:30] Why Most Realtors Don't Know About Creative Finance [38:00] The Importance of Problem Solving in Real Estate [43:45] Cherry-Picking the Best Deals [47:50] Importance of Buy Box and Market Familiarity [51:30] Creative Financing Example from Hialeah Purchase [55:10] Foreclosures Are Up: Here's Why [59:00] Building the WhatsApp Group & Helping New InvestorsWisdom Nuggets:Creative Financing Is a Problem Solver: Creative finance isn't just about strategy—it's about finding ethical ways to solve real problems. When banks say no, these methods can create win-win scenarios for both investors and distressed property owners.Sellers' Situations Dictate the Terms: Forget falling in love with the kitchen layout—real estate investing success comes from understanding the seller's situation. The better you grasp their challenges, the better your chances at structuring a mutually beneficial deal.Build Your Buyer List Before the Deal: Don't wait until you have the contract to look for a buyer. Build a community—like Christian's WhatsApp group—so when the right deal lands, it moves quickly.Long-Term Financing Buys Time and Options: In creative finance, the longer the financing terms, the better. It gives investors the breathing room to hold, refinance, or cash flow without pressure.Relationships Drive Revenue: Speed and communication are important, but nothing replaces trust. Christian attributes much of his success to in-person networking and repeat business from buyers who trust his word and deal quality.Power Quotes“I sell good deals, but I buy great deals.” - Christian Pombo"I'm raising gentlemen." - Christian PomboConnect with Christian:Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/pomborealestate)Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/creativerealestatedeals)Connect With the Podcast Host Alex Quin:Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/alexquin)Twitter: (https://twitter.com/mralexquin)LinkedIn: (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mralexquin)Website: (https://alexquin.com)TikTok: (https://www.tiktok.com/@mralexquin)Our CommunityInstagram: (https://www.instagram.com/hustleinspireshustle)Twitter: (https://twitter.com/HustleInspires)LinkedIn: (https://www.linkedin.com/company/hustle-inspires-hustle)Website: (https://hustleinspireshustle.com)*This page may contain affiliate links or sponsored content. Send us a textTrust is breaking on LinkedIn—and not just because the algorithm got stricter. Grant McGaugh sits down with Richard Vanderblom, the global authority on social selling and LinkedIn strategy, to unpack how AI-driven behaviors, automated outreach, and shifting relevance signals are reshaping what works and what backfires. If you've watched your reach drop or felt your DMs fill with spam, this conversation maps a smarter path forward. We dig into the metrics that actually matter—qualified DMs, right-fit invites, and conversions on low-commitment offers—and why “views” are a value metric when treated as a bridge to action. Richard explains LinkedIn's emerging “interest clusters,” how second and third-degree engagement now carries more weight, and why chasing viral content outside your niche sabotages your credibility. The guidance is clear: stay in your lane, focus 80% of your posts on your core expertise, and let relevance compound.Leaders get a practical content playbook that outperforms company pages: personal storytelling that shares real lessons, point-of-view thought leadership that leads, co-created posts with peers to unlock new networks, and video or live formats to build instant trust. We also test LinkedIn's Boost feature—what it's good for, where it falls short—and talk about responsible AI use that amplifies your voice without eroding authenticity. From credibility scoring to AI-pattern detection, the platform is rewarding the human layer more than ever.If you want to position your executive brand, grow a trusted network, and convert attention into meaningful outcomes, this episode gives you the strategy and the why behind it.
