This week we look at our unique identity as a local church. We like to use the metaphor of a picture frame when we talk about it. The sides of that frame include our mission, our core values, our strategy/pathway, and the outcomes we want to see growing in every believer in our church. Those four things are who we are as a local church, and they "frame up" where God is taking us. (To read more about this paradigm, read "Church Unique" by Will Mancini. Pastor Josh borrows much from that book in his message this week.) We're sent to love people and invite them to follow Jesus with us.

HCP - Ep. 76 - The Vision FrameOn this episode of HCP, Larry and Drew revisit the ever-so-important quality of vision. Whether you're a church planter not on the field yet, or you're a seasoned pastor with 30 years of ministry experience, we all need to make sure we're still following a vision of what God wants for His church. Larry describes an idea called “The Vision Frame” and we hope it gives you a framework for following Jesus and the vision He's given you for your church, community and team. One book discussed on the program is “Church Unique” by Will ManciniTo find more information about The Healthy Church Podcast go to:http://www.healthychurchpodcast.comor find us on FaceBook!
What makes the church unique? How is the church set apart from other ways/places we seek community? The church is a unique community that is intricately and intimately interconnected to Jesus Christ and together we are being transformed through God's redemptive work for us, in us, and through us.

5 Leadership Questions Podcast on Church Leadership with Todd Adkins
In this episode of the 5 Leadership Questions podcast, Todd Adkins is joined by Will Mancini, founder of Auxano and author of Younique, Church Unique, and God Dreams. They discuss how the process of becoming who God wants you to be can be challenging and how the church in North America has been operating from a functional Great Commission. BEST QUOTES "All leaders have been given a special assignment from God, but most don't understand it and haven't named it in a real precise kind of way.""Rather than projecting a sense of what I want to be when I grow up, what if I actually take seriously who God made me to be?""Moving into consulting was really about me responding to increased self-awareness that my gift of discernment was higher than my gift of leadership.""Church leaders are addicted to events and products, but it's process that produces the clarity.""My primary legacy is for the local church to return to it's movemental dynamic that Jesus always intended it to have.""We stopped talk about evangelism as methodology and started talking about mission as identity.""The functional church in North America, over the last 20 years, is go in to all the world and make more worship attenders, baptizing them in the name of small groups, and teaching them to volunteer a few hours a month. That functional Great Commission is not going to work anymore.""Where there is no margin, there is no imagination." My friend Nathan Smith shares his journey growing up in Texas, learning all the messy church history in his youth, working with FairMormon to answer questions, serving in the California Fresno Mission with Cathy and Larry Gelwix as his Mission President, not really ‘fitting in’ during his successful mission where he reached people no one else could reach, becoming less active because of ‘social alienation,’ and now starting to attend Church again. Nathan wrote this post about his mission. It is helpful for me to read a post like this to help me understand how to help unique and needed members in our church feel they belong. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10215415221908778&id=1084156888 Nathan is a unique and needed member of the Church. He has a deep understanding of our doctrine, Christ, and world religions. His blog can be found at: nathansmithbooks.com and his twitter is at: @NateSmithSNF. One of the most helpful parts of the podcast is his great relationship with his Mission President Larry Gelwix. Instead of requiring Nathan to become a ‘round peg’ so he could fit in, he embraced and valued Nathan’s ‘square peg’ Christlike attributes and gifts and used them to personally be teachable and help others come unto Christ. I hope all of us can become the kind of leaders the Gelwix’s are for some many of our members. Thanks for sharing your journey, Nathan. You are a great man with a wonderful future. I hope you find your way to stay in our Church. We need you. You can help us become the Body of Christ that we need to become.

In this episode of the 5 Leadership Questions podcast, Todd Adkins and Eric Geiger are joined by Will Mancini, founder of Auxano and author of many books including Church Unique. During their conversation, they discuss how to cast vision and answer the following questions. Where does vision come from? How important is clarity to vision? How do you make sure that vision moves from the wall to the hall? How do you measure the ongoing success toward a vision? How do you navigate the crossroads of recasting or redefining vision? BEST QUOTES “God is the chief visionary.” “No idea is our own. We are always working with God’s ideas.” “You have to bloom where you are planted and work with what God has provided.” “You might as well not have a vision if it is not clear.” “We miss our goal, not because of obstacles, but because of a clearer path to a lesser goal.” “Great articulation of a vision is the first step of implementation.” “We want to tell fresh stories, but fresh stories that reinforce the vision.” “It is easy for churches to have too many goals.” “If you have 5 goals, you don’t have any.” RECOMMENDED RESOURCES Church Unique by Will Mancini God Dreams by Will Mancini Auxano.com Pipeline West: Developing Leaders at Every Level
