Paul continues to build upon his words ending in chapter 5 verses 25 and 26, "If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another." In light of this, Pastor Sean looks at how the Gospel Community works together for restoration, protection, sowing, and persevering. Are we sowing to the flesh or the Spirit?

Transcript:Hello, this is Pastor Don Willeman of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome to The Kingdom Perspective. The church is an adaptable institution because the gospel can work its redemptive magic in any and every situation. It's a culture not merely a strategy. By culture we mean a shared way of thinking, feeling, and living that is driven by the very life of Jesus. At the heart of the church is a culture, shaped by the model, mandate, and magnetism of the Jesus Christ. Through our union with Him, we share in His Spirit—the Holy Spirit, which is the very love of God dwelling eternally in the unity of the Trinity. It's supernatural! It's not something we create, but something that creates us. It is an organism and not merely an organization. From its inception, Christ Redeemer Church and its culture has been driven by three governing and interconnected principles that flow from this supernatural reality: 1) Gospel-centeredness—the Gospel of God's sovereign grace 2) Gospel Relationships & Community, and 3) Gospel Mission/Vision/Vocation. There is a flow to these principles: 1) the Gospel-centeredness nourishes 2) Gospel Community, which in turn sends us out on 3) Gospel Mission. In everything we do, we seek to embody and be driven by these three cultural values. CRC is most basically not a strategy or structure (methodology) but a culture—a way/mindset of being and doing (deep meaning). And our culture as a church is thick, deep, and adaptable—it can flourish in whatever circumstance. Culture eats strategy lunch. And that's something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. “(In saying, ‘He ascended,' what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”~Ephesians 4:9-16 (ESV)

Every Day with Jesus - Proverbs 1.20-23 Jobey McGinty We live in an incredibly noisy world. Noisier than any other time in human history, and that is by design...some of our Enemy's greatest weapons are distraction and busyness. As Corrrie ten Boom put it, "If the devil can't make you sin, he'll make you busy." So how do we counter these weapons? The answer is to start simple and small...to just start building with the tools given to us by our Father: prayer, the Word, and Gospel Community. Around these things we build a trellis designed not to look impressive but simply to support the growth of a living, vibrant vine of relationship with Jesus. This won't happen by accident, though. It takes hard work and training, and a commitment to loving and following He who first loved us!

Every Day with Jesus - Romans 12:1-2 Jobey McGinty Paul lets us know that if we are not being transformed by the renewal of our mind, we will be conformed to the world. In our society, this is more challenging than ever, with mobile technology purpose-built for distraction and consuming our attention. It's easy to feel like we just don't have time, but in reality, we have plenty of time...we just are choosing to spend it in undirected ways. This is what conformation looks like, over time. But the good news is that we are not passive victims in this process. Through the wisdom given to us through God's word and Spirit, and in supportive Gospel Community, we can begin to implement helpful limitations and daily liturgies which support the transformation we wish to see!

Discussion QuestionsSermon Overview Jesus has brought God's salvation for all who evidently repent.Digging Deeper    Read Luke 3:1-201. Luke begins this chapter (vv. 1-2) with a long introduction of many important people at the time and then transitions to talking about John the Baptist. What do you think Luke is trying to say about the perceived and real importance of these different people and their message?2. Based on this passage and sermon, what does it mean for a person to repent? (see verses 3; 10-14).3. Why isn't repentance just doing the right things (like vv. 10-14) to earn God's favor and acceptance? 4. What does John the Baptist's fulfillment of Isaiah 40:3-5 tell us about who Jesus is? Why is this significant? 5. Have you repented of your sin? If so, what did this look like?6. Is repentance something we do once, when we first become a believer, and then never need to do it again? Unpack what this looks like in your life.7. Is there a habitual sin in your life right now you need to repent of?  8. Practically speaking, what does it look like for us to “bear fruit in keeping with repentance”? What fruit have you seen in your own life? What fruit do you see in others in your Gospel Community? 9. Luke 3:10-14 provides us with some concrete examples of how “bearing the fruits of repentance” will show itself in our attitudes toward and use of our money and possessions. Does your attitude toward (and use of) money and possessions reveal “fruits of repentance” in your life? If so, how so?   10. The people of Israel in John's day were tempted to think that, given their spiritual lineage (3:8), they were in a right standing with God, despite their lack of repentance. What are some examples of things we can (in a similar way) be tempted to look to as substitutes for repentance? (Examples: being good, knowing lots about the Bible, being raised in a Christian home)11. How did Pastor Brett help us understand the meaning of the end of verse 16, “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”? What is a takeaway for us from this? Prayer

The story: the coming of Jesus is cause for joy (vv. 39-45)For some of us, the Christmas season can be hard for various reasons. And yet, regardless of our circumstances, the coming of Jesus should be a cause for great joy in our hearts. How does Jesus coming to earth give you joy?    What is one step you could take this Christmas season to create time and space to reflect on how the coming of Jesus should lead to greater joy in our hearts?  Luke 1:45 says, “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” In your own life, when have you seen the blessing of taking God at his Word?2. The song: our joy is fueled by what God's sending of Jesus reveals about himself (vv. 46-56)A. Though not in the same way as he did with Mary, it is God's intention to use each of us to further his kingdom purposes on earth. How have you seen God use you for his purposes in the world (be it in a big way or small)? B. Mercy: God shows his favor to those who fear him (no matter how low in the world's eyes) (vv. 50-53)How is God's mercy revealed in his sending of Jesus to earth as a baby? Why is God's mercy for those who fear him (and implicitly not for those who don't)? Read vv. 51-53 again. How have you seen God do what is described here? C. Memory: God remembers his promise to help his believing people (vv. 54-55)In vv. 54-55 Mary said, “He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his offspring forever.” How did God do this through his sending of Jesus into the world as a baby? God sent his Son into the world on a mission (cf. Luke 19:10). How should God's purposes in sending Jesus into the world shape our purposes as individuals, Gospel Communities, and as a local church?   Who could you share this story within the coming week? Prayer

Discussion QuestionsSermon Overview A life worthy of the gospel is marked by a costly commitment to the gospel's progress in the world and the church's progress in the gospel.1. A life worthy of the gospel rejoices at the gospel's progress (vv. 12-18a)2. A life worthy of the gospel aims at Christ's honor through the church's progress (vv. 18b-26)3. A life worthy of the gospel endures together suffering for the gospel. (vv. 27-30)Digging Deeper    Read Philippians 1:12-301. Our eighth Defining Value as a church is “Commitment to Faithfully Pass the Gospel on to Others.” (You may want to reread this section of the Defining Values document below.)  What are some of the ways you see this value lived out in our life as a church? Are there ways you would like to see us grow in this? How so?   2. Verse 12 talks about the advance of the gospel. What does that mean?3. Even though Paul is in prison, the good news of Jesus spreads throughout the prison guards (v. 13) and encourages followers of Jesus to be bold in sharing the gospel too (v. 14). Where else in the Bible or in your own life have you experienced God using something that seems bad for good? (see Acts 2:23 for the ultimate example).4. Paul talks about groups of people with differing motivations for preaching the gospel: (1) out of envy and rivalry and (2) out of goodwill.  Surprisingly, Paul doesn't call this first group out and instead rejoices that Christ is proclaimed      (v. 18a). How should Paul's response affect the way we prioritize the spread of the gospel?      5. How might this passage and this sermon help us be a part of spreading the gospel to others?6. What would suffering for the gospel look like for us today? What's the worst that could happen if you share the gospel with a friend?7. What keeps us from sharing the gospel with others?8. How could the members of this Gospel Community help you share the gospel with others?9. Share if there's someone in your life that you'd love to know Jesus. How might God use you to share the gospel with them?PrayerDefining Value 8: At CrossWay we see ourselves, along with all Christians, as commissioned by God to engage with our local community and with the larger world in such a way that the Gospel is faithfully demonstrated and clearly proclaimed.  We also see it as a specific charge from God to pass on to our children a clear and complete doctrine and a compelling witness to the transforming grace of God, and by so doing, firmly establish the next generation in its faith in Jesus Christ.  CrossWay is committed to the advance of the gospel in our homes, in our community and in the world.

Welcome back to the kitchen table. Helping our children with laundry and getting them dressed is a daily ritual, often filled with the same simple motions—helping them put on new clothes, changing out of the old, and making sure they're ready for the day. What seems like a small task can actually reveal something powerful about the gospel and how God interacts with us. Each moment we help our children get dressed can serve as a small reminder of this spiritual renewal. Just as we care for them in practical ways, God cares for us, clothing us in his love and teaching us to walk in his ways.  By finding God in these small, everyday routines, we allow his presence to shape not only our children but our own hearts. Through the simple task of dressing them, we can be reminded of the gospel's renewing power—making each day a fresh start. Welcome back to the kitchen table! Today, Bethany is walking us through a crucial topic: repentance. It's a word we often hear and toss around, but what does it truly mean, and how can we guide our kids through it? When introducing repentance to our children, it's important to remember that it's not just about saying sorry but about helping them understand a heart-level change. Luke 5:32 reminds us that Jesus came to call sinners to repentance, and Acts 3:19 encourages us to turn to God and receive forgiveness. It's a challenge to teach our kids to think differently and recognize that none of us are perfect. We can remind them that repentance is about their relationship with God—it's not about guilt or shame. Instead, it's about the freedom we have in Christ because Jesus came to save us. Bethany highlights that repentance is one of the most beautiful parts of our faith. As we talk with our kids, we get to watch God work in their hearts, helping them understand the power of turning to Him. These gospel-centered conversations create opportunities for our children to experience God's grace and grow in their walk with him.   Connect with Bethany hereFollow her on Instagram @bethanykimsey Stop feeling defeated in your motherhood. Welcome back to the kitchen table. As parents, we deeply desire for our children to follow Christ—not because it's our family tradition, but because they genuinely understand their need for Him.    In 1 Corinthians 2:5, Paul reminds us that our faith should rest "not on human wisdom, but on God's power." This is the foundation we want to lay for our children.   We pray for our children to know God personally, to experience his love and power in their lives, and to develop a faith that grows independently of us. Our role as mothers is to lead them to Christ and then step aside, allowing the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts, so their faith rests on his power alone.
