POPULARITY
It's always a pleasure to welcome a bush trainer to the podcast. Our guest this week is Stephen Lee who chips away diligently from his Ballina base season after season with consistent results. He's currently ably assisted by son Jordan with whom he'll soon form an official partnership. Lee has posted 850 winners since his solo career began in 1986, and has two NRRA training premierships on his CV. Stephen rotates his horses between a dual barn complex on Ballina racecourse, and a nearby 60 acre property which gives him access to a pristine stretch of beach. Whenever one of the team warrants an opportunity in a metropolitan environment, he heads to Eagle Farm or Doomben just two hours away. He rarely tackles the arduous road trip to Sydney although he did venture to Randwick on November 1st with smart sprinter The Astronomer. This podcast was recorded twenty four hours before The Astronomer raced. Stephen talks of the easy access to Brisbane tracks as opposed to the marathon trip to Sydney. He acknowledges son Jordan's entry into the NSW training ranks and says he's looking forward to their proposed partnership. Stephen talks about the luxury of being able to give horses a complete change of environment at his beachside property. He says the new routine works wonders with highly strung horses. He talks about the large paddock set aside for retired racehorses or horses who've fallen on hard times. His partner Amanda would have even more if space allowed. The trainer talks about his two NRRA premierships. In winning the first one he unseated long time incumbent John Shelton. Stephen looks back on his early education under the tutelage of his late father Bruce. He says Bruce was a capable racehorse trainer but was best known as an all rounder constantly called upon to sort out other people's troublesome horses. He talks of his father's early association with iconic trainer Maurice McCarten. The Ballina horseman pays tribute to his elderly Mum. Stephen says his early aspirations to become a jockey were quickly negated by increasing weight. He talks of a brief flirtation with the harness racing sport. Stephen has vivid recollections of his first training win on the defunct White ParK track at Scone. He talks of a brief training stint at Coffs Harbour and a subsequent move to Ballina, a move he hasn't regretted. Stephen pays tribute to daughter Maddison who was his valued trackwork rider for a number of years. Maddison put a lot of time into Anton En Avant, a prolific winner for the Lee stable. As a yearling Anton En Avant appeared unlikely to ever make it to the races. He talks about the gelding's amazing race record which included a win in the Gr 3 Chairman's Hcp at Doomben. Stephen talks of former jockey Cassandra Schmidt who won a string of races on Anton En Avant. The trainer pays tribute to several handy horses who've flown the flag for the Ballina stable over the years - Zoukina, Lasting Kiss, Minassi, Felix Trinidad, Song Time, Bavosa, and Espiritu. Stephen tells us more about his current apprentice Siabh Wrigley who still has a number of trial rides to complete before gaining her licence to ride in races. The signs are promising. It's a laid back chat with a top country horseman.
Ep. 103- Gut Health with Pets with Dr. Marlene Siegel by Erin Kenney, MS, RD, LDN, HCP
Ep.102- Supporting The Gut Through Antibiotics, Candida Overgrowth by Erin Kenney, MS, RD, LDN, HCP
We break down 10 years of HashiConf and this year's Terraform-heavy news. What do Terraform Actions with Ansible, Stacks GA, and HCP-only features mean for day two work? Is open source getting left behind, and is OpenTofu worth a look? We are always happy to answer any questions, hear suggestions for new episodes, or hear from you, our listeners. A recent survey among 2,000 patients in the USA revealed a growing openness to AI in healthcare, especially when it enhances time with physicians. The majority of patients support AI tools if used as ambient listening devices leading to more direct interaction with the HCP allowing more face-to-face time. However, concerns remain, particularly around AI when used for diagnosis. 55% of patients still feel uneasy about AI making clinical decisions. Therefore, there is an increasing request for transparency when AI is used in this case and for follow-ups like lab results. However, it might be recognised that if AI is used automating repetitive tasks and expanding care capacity, it might support healthcare workforce current crisis. Ultimately, the future of AI in healthcare depends on trust, transparency, and collaboration, with both patients and providers at the centre.

Michael Palladino, VP of Sales and Clinical Solutions at OptimizeRx, is utilizing AI to educate patients and providers, promoting shared decision-making about which medications are most likely to yield the best health outcomes. The goal is to combat information overload by precisely targeting education to specific patients and delivering that information on the patient's preferred media delivery platform. Technology-driven nudges deliver timely information, reminders about upcoming appointments, and address medication adherence issues. Michael explains, "So OptimizeRx is a health technology company. We partner with the life sciences industry, and we help patients get on the right drug at the right time, educating both patient and provider. And we do that through some traditional methods of point-of-care. We also use our AI technology, which we will talk a little bit about today." "We've evolved as a company to be as individualized as possible, and that really has been using the technological advances of AI and machine learning over the past three years to predict in a patient journey when they may qualify for a procedure or drug, and educating both the patient and the HCP. So, it's really the use of data and technology that has evolved, and it's how we're leveraging our expertise in the space." "Traditionally, the way that a pharmaceutical industry may work or a life science manufacturer may work is they're often quite siloed. The patient gets some type of education on TV, the HCP somewhere in the country gets a similar type of education, and there's not a lot of synergy. What we have done in the marketplace is combine the patient's finding with the HCP's finding, and we educate them at the right time." #OptimizeRx #PrecisionMedicine #HealthTech #AI #HealthAI #DrugInformation optimizerx.com Download the transcript here

Bill Eddy and Megan Hunter explore the crucial distinction between temporary high conflict behaviors and established patterns of high conflict conduct. As co-founders of the High Conflict Institute, we address common misconceptions about conflict dynamics while introducing our new platform, Conflict Influencer, designed to support individuals navigating challenging relationships.Understanding High Conflict PatternsWe examine how situational stress differs from persistent high conflict behavior patterns through an insightful analogy comparing one-time excessive drinking versus chronic alcohol dependence. While anyone may demonstrate high conflict behaviors temporarily during intense stress, persistent patterns typically manifest in:Preoccupation with blaming othersAll-or-nothing thinkingUnmanaged emotionsExtreme behaviorsThe episode clarifies that high conflict patterns often emerge in close relationships but may remain dormant until triggered by significant life changes like divorce or job loss. We emphasize that effective responses avoid giving insight, emotional engagement, or labels, instead focusing on future solutions rather than past conflicts.Questions We Answer in This EpisodeIs high conflict behavior always situational?Does conflict always require two participants? How can professionals identify pattern-based versus situational conflict? What approaches work best with individuals demonstrating high conflict patterns? What resources are available through the new Conflict Influencer platform? We also introduce ConflictInfluencer.com, our new online community and learning platform offering individual coaching, consultation services, and comprehensive support for personal conflict challenges. This is a REPOST from Episode 43 in Season 1.HCP - 46 - “10 Signs of Being a Narcissistic Pastor”Though it's easy to point fingers at others, who you may think have this issue, we should probably look in the mirror first. The original sin is PRIDE. It got Lucifer kicked out of Heaven and Adam and Eve removed from Eden. It can also ruin your life and church. Though we all appreciate those moments as leaders in the church where someone says “we don't know what we'd do without you”, we should be careful to start “believing our own press”. In this podcast Larry and Drew discuss their own struggles with pride and how dangerous the issue of Narcissism can be in the heart of leaders and even effect your church. This conversation is built around the frame work of an article by Charles Stone found on CharlesStone.Com (link below). Stone gives 10 thoughtful considerations of possible signs in leaders who might be Narcissistic. The 10 Signs of Being a Narcissistic Pastor or Leader:Rage if he experiences shame for shame exposes his true self.An inordinate need for praise in order to feel important. The feeling of entitlement to special treatment. The immense need for continual feedback of how important she is.The feeling of superiority and its reinforcement from others.Strong reaction to rejection and disapproval, sometimes with intense rage. The lack of the capacity to mourn, a defense against depression.Calculating and conniving behavior to “maintain” supplies of continuous adulation. An impaired capacity for commitment. No capacity for self-focus or self-examination.“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”Phil. 2:3This article can be found at:https://charlesstone.com/the-narcissistic-pastor-10-signs-that-you-may-be-one/Other resources:https://unseminary.com/5-signs-youre-following-a-narcissistic-church-leader/https://careynieuwhof.com/episode212/For more information about the Healthy Church Podcast, find us at:http://www.HealthyChurchPodcast.ComOr find us on FaceBook.

Then swim under the lane line to the next lane and repeat the process until athletes have completed a lap in six lanes for a total of 300 meters. Please include advice about: *passing when someone is coming back down the same lane ( possibility of 3 abreast) *does it matter if you pass on the right or left of the athlete? *touch & kick off OR flip when returning down the SAME lane *your technique for getting under the lane rope and heading off again *explain the mind set, as I'm used to open water races and I want to dominate Thank you in advance! I listen to your podcasts during long, indoor bike sessions. You make me feel a part of the triathlon world. I get your email notifications for Grit2Greatness Endurance. I hope the following specifics aid you in your response to me. I don't like adding the anxiousness of "how" to execute the swim, so any advice is welcome! The race is May 3, so I have time to practice what you suggest. I've done 2 serpentine swim races and the biggest issues for me were: *passing through the congestion of swimmers returning down the lane *swimmers resting at the wall and thusly blocking the ability to push-off/flip-turn *choosing which side to pass a swimmer on that is meandering Dear Ruth, This serpentine swim format presents some unique challenges, but with the right strategies, you can navigate the congestion smoothly and maintain momentum throughout the race. Here are a few strategies: 1. Passing Through Lane Congestion Strategic Positioning: Start strong to secure a front position and avoid major bottlenecks early on. If starting later, be mentally prepared for more congestion. Breath Control & Awareness: Practice bilateral breathing to keep an eye on approaching swimmers. This helps with timing a pass effectively. Speed Bursts: Rather than attempting a sustained faster pace, use short, controlled accelerations to overtake when space opens up. 2. Dealing With Swimmers Blocking the Wall Adaptable Turn Techniques: If a flip turn isn't possible, opt for an open turn with a powerful push-off at an angle. Underwater Exit: If the lane rope transition is congested, avoid surface-level interference by streamlining under the resting swimmers while transferring to the next lane. Pre-race Observation: Before starting, assess common bottleneck areas—know which lanes tend to clog near the walls and mentally prepare alternate strategies. Communicate: Before the race, talk to the 3-4 swimmers ahead of you to come to a working agreement that if you get your toes tapped, move to the side at the next wall. 3. Choosing the Best Side to Pass a Meandering Swimmer (if you can't pass at the wall) Reading Body Language: Observe patterns in how the swimmer moves—does their meandering have a rhythm? Predict their next movement before passing. Firm Commitment: Once you initiate a pass, sticking to your chosen side with confidence to prevent hesitation that could slow you down or cause contact. Gentle Tap: If someone is repeatedly veering into her path, a subtle tap or verbal signal can alert them without disrupting their rhythm. Practice these strategies in training sessions with other swimmers to simulate race-day conditions. This combination of communication, awareness, adaptability, and assertiveness will make all the difference. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Interview: Colorado's Ride with Bill Plock Bill Plock, Ride Director for Colorado's Ride is going to talk to us about this epic experience, Colorado's Ride. This is a premier cycling adventure through the breathtaking landscapes of the San Juan region. This unforgettable journey takes you through Silverton, La Plata and Archuleta counties, and the legendary Wolf Creek Pass, with overnight stays in the charming towns of Durango and Pagosa Springs. Session Note This is an easy ride for a reason. Focus on a smooth pedal stroke and holding around 90 rpms. Manage your intensity based on heart rate rather than power. Going faster or further on this session will likely hinder your recovery from prior sessions and your ability to get the most out of future sessions. For the HCP (high-cadence pedaling) efforts, pedal as fast as you can pedal without bouncing in the saddle. Try to achieve up to about 115 rpms. During HCP, use very low resistance (low gear and/or reduced power). The objective is smooth and fast leg speed not generating power. Fun Segment: Triathlon Guilty Pleasures Segment: Triathlon Guilty Pleasures – Rank That Ridiculousness! Welcome to Triathlon Guilty Pleasures, where we confess our quirkiest habits, indulgent routines, and those oddly specific rituals we swear help us race better. But this time… I'm going to read six scenarios and rate each one on a scale from 1 to 5 for absurdity—with 1 being totally understandable and 5 being what is even happening?! Rich, are you ready to let the judgment begin? 1. The Matching Gear Mania “Every piece of race day gear has to match—from the kit and shoes to the water bottles and gels. Color coordination is power.” Stylish? Absolutely. Necessary? Debatable. 2. Zone 2 = Trash TV Time “Treadmill sessions are scheduled around reality TV shows. If I'm not running, I'm not watching. Endurance meets entertainment.” You're either building aerobic fitness… or judging cupcakes on Netflix. 3. Sunglass Snobbery “I have sunglasses for every training mood—‘aero mode,' ‘cloudy intervals,' ‘post-race selfies,' and more.” Fashion meets function… but mostly fashion. 4. The Post-Race Shower Snack “Sometimes I bring a PB&J into the shower after a race so I can eat and rinse off at the same time.” Fueling meets multitasking… or madness. 5. Pre-Race Burger Ritual “I have to eat a cheeseburger the night before every race. No burger, no PR.” Is it carb-loading or superstition? Yes. 6. Bike Cleaning as Therapy “I clean my bike before every long ride, even if it's already spotless. It calms me.” Clean drivetrain = clear mind. Listener Prompt: What's your triathlon guilty pleasure? DM us, tag us, or confess anonymously—we'll read the best ones in a future episode and rank the ridiculousness! Closing Line: No matter how wild, weird, or wonderful… if it keeps you training, it's totally valid. Mostly. Closing: Before we close, I want to wish Caroline Thanks again for listening this week. Please be sure to follow us @303Triathlon and @grit2greatnessendurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment. We'd really appreciate it!
In this episode of The ICHE Podcast, Editor-in-Chief David Calfee is joined by Drs. Catherine Passaretti and Michael Klompas for a timely discussion on healthcare-acquired respiratory viral infections (HA-RVIs). Together, they explore how frequently these infections occur, the primary sources of transmission—including infected healthcare personnel (HCP)—and the infection prevention strategies aimed at minimizing risk. Dr. Passaretti walks listeners through her recently published letter proposing updates to current HCP return-to-work guidelines following COVID-19 infection. She explains the rationale behind the proposal, citing key concerns with existing guidance. Dr. Klompas then discusses two papers: one by Stone et al., which investigates the impact of current return-to-work policies, and another by Klompas himself, which reflects on the broader implications and outlines additional strategies to reduce HCP-to-patient transmission risk. The episode concludes with actionable insights from each participant, offering practical steps that healthcare facilities can implement today to enhance respiratory virus prevention and reevaluate HCP return-to-work protocols based on evolving evidence and epidemiology. This conversation offers valuable guidance for healthcare leaders, infection preventionists, and policy makers navigating a post-COVID landscape.
Most Medical Affairs leaders know the truth: Counting MSLHCP interactions is easy, but it's meaningless. Vanity metrics are holding Field Medical back. In this episode of Transforming Medical Communications, Wesley Portegies is joined by Denise Clark, Regional Medical Director of the Rare Disease team at Amgen, to show you what to measure instead and how to finally prove your team's real impact. Denise brings a bold, disruptive perspective: activity is not impact. This conversation gives you the modern Field Medical playbook. It's not about doing more. It's about doing what moves the needle.

Arielle Smith, the President of Life Science at Event Cadence, discusses the changes in the event technology landscape and the expectations of pharmaceutical companies and attendees for a hybrid approach, including participation in person and virtually. There is an increased demand for insight capturing and analytics to measure the return on investment in conferences and the time attendees spend there. The platform includes scheduling, appointment management, and lead generation with tools to encourage networking and interaction to enhance the event experience. Arielle explains, "Medical conferences are held all over the world, as you know, and there's not always going to be a time where you can physically put boots on the ground and travel for them. So we're seeing a lot more of a hot tier point, a hybrid model approach to it where, let's say, the majority of the team will be in a meeting room face to face with some of their HCPs, but then even that HCP might decide to dial in their counterpart. Or if a pharmaceutical client is not able to participate in person for many different reasons, we're looping them in from a virtual perspective as well. And our platform can help coordinate all of that." "So there's a lot of talk in the industry about insight capturing and gathering and exactly how that can be done but how best to make it actionable. Many great platforms are spinning up recently that are meant for capturing recordings or recording a conversation like the one you and I are having now, but then using AI to transcribe it all. A lot of our accounts are playing with technology like that, and then our platform is being used to set those conversations up." #EventCadence #MedicalConferences #ConferenceManagement #HybridConferences eventcadence.com Download the transcript here
