New episode! We cover season 3, episode 4 of The X-Files, “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose”. Please heed the trigger warnings in this time of heightened anxiety! They’re listed at the end of this description. We discuss this critically-acclaimed episode of the 90’s phenomenon, and cover how it gave us childhood flashbacks, how shocking it feels that it was filmed 25 years ago, how we individually experience deja vu, get into how time is or is not linear, and ponder coincidence vs destiny. Katy gets the Wilson brothers mixed up, Carrie doesn’t like aliens but has watched the most X-Files of all of us, Maddy tells a gross squirrel story and Mack remembers Steve Martin in places he never was. We also discuss the amazing ‘David Duchovny’ music video set to Bree Sharp’s brilliant song, commend Scully for utilizing the door peephole, argue about what a Nazi stormtrooper is, and remind you we are a dog family. And in a weirdly prescient moment, especially concerning this was an episode about psychics, Maddy gives a timely warning to WASH YOUR HANDS, even though we recorded in September 2019! Take an hour away from everything and listen to us only crosstalk a little bit. TW: Suicide, depression, gore, possible rape, death and mortality

This week the Dads look at one of the best rated X-Files episodes. This slow burn has a fantastic story, great supernatural elements, even a little over the top comedy. Pretty much all us X-Files fans would want in an episode. This episode brought Peter Boyle an Emmy and it was well deserved. And trust us, we know when someone plays a good, grumpy old man. The Dads tackle the series premiere of Star Trek: Picard next week. If you listened to us for just the X-Files episodes, thank you for sharing your time with us. If you are a long time listener, see you next episode.
Amanda and Sarah look at cool, spooky or just plain weird methods of fortune telling. Amanda examines the history of phrenology, the extremely problematic practice of categorizing people by "reading" their head bumps. Sarah shuffles through the fascinating origins and evolution of tarot cards. Other subjects covered include possible #daddy Engelbert Humperdinck, the bowel-moving magic of P. F. Chang's, and murders with mystical connections. Recommendations: Sarah recommends watching the super psychic X-Files episode "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose." The truth is out there: season 3 of The X-Files is the show's strongest season. That is, if you can trust Paul, Arlo, and the inimitable Wesley "Wezzo" Mead as they have another of their periodic discussions of Chris Carter's '90s masterwork. What makes season 3 work so well? It might have something to do with the series' expanded tonal range--a tense thriller in "Pusher," Satanic panic meetsHeathers in "Syzygy"--and the confidence with which it tackles both the monster-of-the-week hours and the increasingly complex (or is that convoluted?) mytharc installments. Then there are the Darin Morgan episodes ("Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," "War of the Coprophages," and "Jose Chung's From Outer Space"), which are something else entirely. Plus holy cow, UK politics have gotten super depressing since the last time Wezzo stopped by. Next: Paul and Arlo return to Boneville, site of last year's Four-Color Flashback, for a look at the newly published Bone: Coda.
We can see into the future, and you are going to love this episode! This week A and V welcome a special guest when C takes a week off. The girls tackle meditation and intuition and even do their very own tea leaf reading! A talks some real-life ghost stories and calls 1-800-555-YAPP. V thinks Scully is immortal and discusses the finer points of fortune telling. Your fate is sealed, you will laugh!
