The Wire (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9), S2 E22) was recommended by Obiwanjabroni (he/him) pronounced like obi wan kenobi from star wars but the last part is..ja-BRO-nee? I guess lol just listen to the ROCK when he was a wrestler , who said: I know most people would choose this episode as a favorite because it supposedly gives us Garak's "origin story" but to someone who is in recovery and falls off the wagon every other weekend, it's actually kind of a beautiful display of what we go through. The self loathing.. the hatred of those who are trying to help us through it.. the feeling the next morning when they've been so kind to us even though we didn't deserve it.Definitely not something I expected from Star Trek with the whole utopian awesomeness and all. Another reason ds9 was and will always be my favorite of all the series even though I've been watching since TNG with my dad who watched TOS.The Wire first aired on May 8, 1994, written by Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and directed by Kim FriedmanIn order to save Garak's life, Bashir must unravel some of the secrets in the Cardassian's past. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

“The Homecoming” 30th-anniversary reflections Life on the station seems to be back to normal as we head into Season 2. People are enjoying dabo. Quark is up to something. Odo is investigating. Jake has a date. But things quickly go sideways with the arrival of an earring. Recognizing a legendary resistance fighter's insignia on the jewelry, Kira leads a mission to retrieve him from a Cardassian prison camp, potentially starting a war in the process. Thankfully, Gul Dukat prefers to cover his butt rather than start shooting. Factions on Bajor, however, have less peaceful intentions as they first tag the station walls before moving on to Quark's head. “Duet” 30th-anniversary reflections When a Cardassian named Marritza arrives seeking medical help, Kira claims he is the notorious Gul Darhe'el and wants to punish him for his war crimes. Captain Jericho is a real sociopath, and he takes over the Enterprise as Picard, Worf, and Crusher train in secret for the secret mission involving Cardashians. Riker's beard is bristling, Geordi is flabbergasted at Jellico's changes, and Crusher is gassed from running through caves. Captain Jellicle Cat insults Riker straight to Picard's face, then tells Troi to put on a proper uniform when she tells Jellico to cool it down with the crew. The mission goes off, with Picard telling them they are infiltrating a Cardassian weapons lab. It's a trap, and Picard is captured. TO BE CONTINUED. This episode is like "Coming of Shadows" from DS9. Garak is so perfectly disinterested in Julius Caesar. Jude admits he doesn't hate Odo any more. The principles of not over-using a looming threat. As with many DS9 episodes, Kira gets to kick butt in this one. So does that make her The Homecoming Queen? She certainly is my book. Man, imagine taking Kira to the Homecoming Dance. That floor would get lit. Seriously though, Kira would no doubt be in a phaser fight by the end of the night, busting out all those Bajoran terrorist moves on her Cardassian oppressors trying to kill her right to party. Hopefully, she can put those moves to good use in this season opening episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Episode discussion starts at 18:47. But is there more to this species than first meets the eye? Are they only the military and the Obsidian Order? What are "everyday" Cardassians like? What do we know about the history of the Cardassian Union? Episode Notes Yes, it's a three-parter, but all three are GREAT. Welcome to season 2 of DS9. The Homecoming: Call your factions one thing and just roll with it. Every character choice for O'Brien is "working class hero". Gul Dukat's statement is basically "we're sorry we got caught." Wait, is this a B5 episode? The Circle: Kira's hunka hunka monk. The Bajoran monasteries must constantly be ordering 55 gallon tubs of baja blast lube. "Here is our traditional garb, the banana hammock". Odo deputizes Quark? Nothing says Bajoran independence like Cardassian torture. The Siege: Nasty fascist republican sex. Benjamin "Not on my watch, motherfuckers" Sisko isn't having the Federation's limp-dick hands-off approach. Nog and Jake are best boys. Trill are psychic-type and thus weak to bug type. Julian is dramatic. Jadzia gets even more depth. Odo and Quark are the two most married characters in Star Trek. O'Brien Suffers level: Ride or die for Kira. rejected titles for this episode: Their monks can fuck The ceremonial banana hammock Sure he's a sex pest but he's honest about it Nasty Fascist Republican Sex Hunka Hunka Monk No one touches Sisko's Balls BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. KIRA'S SOLEMN VOW leads to a shocking truth: vengeance is not moral. In the course of investigating a single Cardassian she comes to the realization that collective punishment of all Cardassians isn't justice, even if this particular Cardassian wants to face judgment for his people's crimes. It's one of the most intense episodes of Star Trek ever made and to help Bryan discuss this Deep Space Nine achievement is writer Andrew Bloom (Slashfilm, Consequence, The Spool). Episode Notes Vortex: A... changeling? Odo--authoritarian, utilitarian, or just childfree? Good old ass-forehead trek aliens. Klingon shift! Jude trips over the plot from season 4-7. Battle Lines: Kira's "secret" Cardassian file. Artificial purgatories are kinda shitty. The procedural plot is REAL BAD, the plot-plot is kinda hard to watch. Killing off the space-pope after two appearances? O'Brien Suffers level: Ochre Runabout destruction count: 1 BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network.
