This week, to paraphrase Martok, we give our one good eye to review Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's next two installments of the Dominion War arc: “Sons and Daughters” and “Behind the Lines.”Justin Bolger returns to boldly go with us as Worf struggles to re-connect with his estranged son while fighting the war, Klingon-style. We also go behind the lines of “Behind the Lines,” a.k.a. The One Where Dax Adds Another Phaser Power Cell to the Collection as Odo gets way too close to a Founder.“Glory to you, and to the empire!”And for those who want to learn more about the Dabo girl actress who helped catch a real-life serial killer, follow the link!
A little bit of a shorter episode. Jesse and I talk about Martok's death. Then we introduce his new character Kyburn Auretrice. It was actually a good talk he and I don't remember the last time a character died.
After the group takes a long rest, their rocky-talky goes off and Darrett Highwater tells the group that he needs Adrick and Sinaught. The teleport to The Knights of High Sorcery and then the PC's decide to rest and then scout. Outside a Dragon Army Patrol was sweeping the city. Swami attempted to hide from them. Martok rushed a bit and tried to draw their fire.
The Party fights some draconian on a patrol because Martok failed his perception check. There is no other way to say it, although the rest of the group rolled so many nat 20s it was kind of incredible.

Ryan and Brady talk about a consequential episode that gives our podcast its best look yet into the psychology of Gul Dukat. We also spend a bit of time talking about a VCR game that features Robert O'Reilly as Martok, which is where today's episode art is from. It's a good time!
After the Hill Barbarian's fought the group everyone decided to rest by a fire, and then go up and meet a nice Cleric by the name of Adrick. He tells them that he was to report to Martok anyway and that he knows a bit about Wheelwatch Outpost. There is also some "special" training that happens.
The party explores the town of Kalaman and run into a pretty interesting shop-keep. They get some potions and they also happen upon the worst crossiant shop. Oh and Martok is a Knight now, and the mages may do mage things with the other mages. This may be a thing that comes up later. Remember to like and subscribe to the podcast.

Back to the rehash mines, "Enterprise"! First up: Starfleet meets their first energy beings and we recall all the times they're going to have done it better in their future/our past in "The Crossing". After that, Martok shows up to defend Archer in "we have Star Trek VI at home", otherwise known as "Judgment". Also this week: bread, a missing key detail, and Sisko! That's right, in honor of Michael Dorn's birthday this past weekend, SNP is going back and exploring the VERY best of Worf! This is such an occasion that Emcee drew some beautiful cover art for this one. From his days as chief security officer on the Enterprise to later becoming the strategic operations officer on Deep Space Nine, the team is going to go on a journey of revenge, love, honor, and of course, some Klingon opera.Plus the mailbag, news, and so much more on episode 165 of Strange New Pod!Support the show
TRIAL BY RETCON. Ohhhh, sorry Captain Kirk. Turns out it's fairly common for the captain of (the) Enterprise to stand trial on the Klingon home world. Jonathan Archer did it 80 years before you were even born! Our Trials of Season Two theme month continues with this rehash of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country with some DS9 "Tribunal" thrown in for good measure as David Goodman, the President of the Writers Guild of America, jumps from sitcoms to Star Trek to co-write an episode that borrows heavily from established franchise history. Is it a winner or all too familiar? The grades begin at (19:06). Also, Bryan makes a big mistake when he references Tuvok being on the Excelsior during Star Trek VI as being in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Timeless" when we ALL know it's "Flashback."If you're enjoying the show, consider subscribing and rating us five stars on your podcast platform of choice. And don't forget to check out our monthly spotlight on the animated shows. This month: Laurie Ulster from TrekMovie.com joined Bryan to judge the first two episodes from The Animated Series (1973).
In today's episode we're having a look at Worf, a character who's a rare series regular between two whole Star Trek shows. We wanted to have a look at some early stories of him in both TNG and DS9 and they both ended up being about bad actors wanting to ‘Make Qo'NoS Great Again' in their own ways. First we've got some rebellious Klingons making trouble in the Neutral Zone and Worf's first time being torn between his new friends and his work friends in “Heart of Glory”. Then we're over to some rash decisions from the Klingon Empire as they decide to invade Cardassia right after it's had a rebellion against its own government in “Way of the Warrior Parts 1 & 2”. This is a big, status quo changing episode with a lot of fun guest stars like friend of the pod Gul Dukat, Martok and the glorious eyes of Gowron. 0:19:39 TNG: Heart of Glory 0:49:49 DS9: Way of the Warrior Part 1 & 2 Just so you know Miles was beeping a little as the batteries on his explosive collar were running low. I edited around the beeps a lot, but there are a few still in there. - C Talking points include: our reasons for covering this episode, manifesting a god by having enough people scream at a road, The Exorcist, Brad Dourif being a moist serial killer, Brad Dourif being a good egg in Deadwood, Goodfellas (apparently that is Ray Liotta's real laugh), the works of M-Scoz, Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Bill Bailey's Klingonness, Blake's 7, Classic Doctor Who, The Simpsons, ValSpeak, Shenmue, Wing Commander, The Young Ones, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf, Brian K Vaughan, Mystique, Star Wars and space battles, event comics, and Gengar. Oh, and occasionally Star Trek. Pedant's Corner: Sweeps weeks are when people like Nielsen do their ratings calculations, so channels often pulled big stunts to try and get people watching. We didn't know AGIMUS was going to come back when this was recorded The decision and placement of Way of the Warrior was quick, even if it was sidetracked by several tangents Casual Trek is by Charlie Etheridge-Nunn and Miles Reid-Lobatto Music by Alfred Etheridge-Nunn Casual Trek is a part of the Nerd & Tie Network https://ko-fi.com/casualtrek Miles' blog: http://www.mareidlobatto.wordpress.com Charlie's blog: http://www.fakedtales.com

Captains Log: 55254.6 It's been almost 4 months since the Romulans entered the war against the House of Toral… this marks two superpowers in the Beta Quadrant engulfed, not only in a war with each other but each their own Civil War. The Federation has officially declared war on the House of Toral but remains uncommitted to the Romulan conflict. Fortunately, the Romulans are more open about their commitments. Admiral Mendek's forces are making progress against those of Pro-Counsul Sela. He has dispatched over a dozen ships to aid Chancellor Martok in finally routing Toral from Quo'nos. He has also appointed Commander Dareeth, a cunning if not reluctant warrior, to take command of all Romulan forces in the Klingon theater. There is still much resistance coming from the House of Toral, but I with the combined effort of the Romulans, Martok, and Starfleet… the end is in sight. In the meantime, I've got a new officer coming aboard… Lt CMD Gerald Moss. He'll be taking over the Flight Operations position. He's got an outstanding record and was highly recommended by Admiral Aralni. He'll manage al shuttle operations and command the Peregrine wing. Https://linktr.ee/StudioTembo

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Sons and Daughters Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S6E3: Sons and Daughters. Some of our favorite repeating characters are back as well as some of our not so favorite...you can determine which is which. Plus we get a new version of Worf's son Alexander now played by Marc Worden. So we get a little parental drama on the station with Ziyal and Dukat and a little Klingon parental drama with Worf and Alexander. Sons and Daughters In this episode, Martok's ship gets some new reinforcements and everyone (especially Worf) is surprised to see Alexander Rozhenko as one of the new recruits. There is a lot of drama as Worf has to face the truth about how he has mistreated his own son. Back on the station, Ziyal and Dukat are patching up their relationship as Dukat pretends to be a good father while irritating Major Kira at every turn. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Soldiers of the Empire Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 21 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine: Soldiers of the Empire where we bounce from Ferengi nonsense to Klingon honor! This week we spend a lot of time on a smoky, dark Klingon ship with melodrama, drinking and hand-to-hand combat. And in great news, we welcome back recurring character Martok played by J.G. Hertzler who coincidentally just appeared on an episode of Star Trek Lower Decks! Soldiers of the Empire When Martok is called upon by the Klingon empire to locate a missing Klingon ship, he finds himself in an unfamiliar position: he is cautious and afraid! Turns out his time in the Jem'Hadar internment camp had some lasting effects on the grizzled general. But never fear, Worf is here to remind him of his warrior heart! How's that for Klingon melodrama? What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. Welcome back to the Great Derelict This week, Andy is accepting the inevitability that sooner of later Fast and Furious will become a Sci-Fi, and so with the help of Peter and Anne-Marie we'll finally get to the bottom, of just what is Family? From The Robinsons in Lost In Space to the House of Martok in DS9 to the #PolyAmBeltaFam in the Expanse. We look at what makes a family, what are some good depictions, and why is it important to sci-fi and how the idea of families has changed even within our lifetimes. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: By Inferno's Light Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 15 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine: By Inferno's Light! We wrap up our two-part story with lots of guest stars! We have Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat, Melanie Smith as Ziyal, Andrew Robinson as Garak, JG Heltzler as Martok and Robert O'Reilly as Gowron. Not only do we need to survive the onslaught of Jem'Hadar ships from the end of last week's episode but we need to get Worf back to the Alpha Quadrant! By Inferno's Light We quickly put the death of Garak's dad behind us and try to figure out how to get the heck out of the internment camp. Back on the station we learn that Dukat has been up to no good for a long time and has aligned himself with the Dominion in order to become ruler of all of Cardassia (this seems like a very short-sighted plan). But maybe the biggest secret in this episode is the dark plan that Dukat and the Dominion have to destroy the Bajoran sun. Yikes! What's this rebinge thing? The Way of the Warrior, Part 1. Following the revelation that the Founders had infiltrated the Alpha Quadrant, tensions are high and Starfleet is preparing for the worst. Those tensions rise when the Klingons arrive at Deep Space 9 on a mission—allegedly—to support their Federation allies. As trouble begins to brew, Sisko brings Worf to the station to help smooth things over and find out what is really going on. Once the Klingons' plans to invade Cardassia are revealed, the relationship between the Federation and the Empire quickly deteriorates and the 80-year-old peace treaty is dissolved. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's fourth season premiere and what amount to a soft reboot of sorts—one that would propel DS9 to become what many consider the most complex and interesting installment in the franchise. We talk about the many changes that came with “The Way of the Warrior," including the addition of Worf, the subtraction of Sisko's hair, airlocking the Khitomer Accords, and the introduction of the character who would redefine Klingons: General Martok. You are cordially invited to the wedding of Jadzia Dax and Worf. Also invited are all their close friends like the Deep Space Nine crew and Martok and, unfortunately, Martok's wife who seems determined to stop this union before it can even start. Not everyone is invited to Dax's party, but that's probably for the best. "You Are Cordially Invited" goes into the Mission Log.
Today we are joined by none other than the man behind the make up of Klingon Martok from DS9, J.G.
Captain Sisko hires a ringer after the Klingons start acting up. Join your sleepy, low-T hosts as they examine the galacto-political ramifications of changeling-induced paranoia, the skillful writing of characters on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and the real reason that Worf is such a fan of prune juice. Spoiler warning! We dive right into a detail-rich discussion of this episode, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet – beware! Next week: We wade into the ongoing debate about Captain Janeway's actions in 'Tuvix' - the 24th episode of Star Trek: Voyager's second season! Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) and J.G. Hertzler (Martok) Join Marc Okrand, Creator of the Klingon Language As Escape Velocity Extra Explores Klingon Culture Wednesday night, September 23, 7:00 p.m. ET Washington, DC (September 14, 2020) – Actors Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and J.G. Hertzler (Martok) from Star Trek: Deep Space 9, will commandeer the spotlight Wednesday evening, September 23, when Escape Velocity Extra (EVX) takes a comprehensive look at Klingon culture. The online program – entitled Communicating with Klingons – Interpreting Alien Language and Culture – will air at 7:00 p.m. ET. The cost is a $5 donation to the not-for-profit Museum of Science Fiction. As the most recognizable and extensively developed alien race in all of science fiction, Klingons bring the greatest level of depth and development to not only the Star Trek universe but really the entire world of popular culture. After all, who among us hasn't called a child strapped to one's leg a “Cling-On?” Or equated the concept of honor to the legacy of Kahless the Unforgettable? Directing the program will be Okrand, who initially created Vulcan language dialogue for Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and Kristie Alley (Saavik) for the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. He was hired by Paramount Pictures to invent the Klingon language and then coach the actors in three subsequent films and later created the Kelpien language for the Star Trek: Discovery Short Trek episode, The Brightest Star. The September 23 program will consist of a single 90-minute session. For additional information, or to register, please visit https://escapevelocity.events/evx/.
