Hey there friends! Welcome to the 14th edition of Flashback Fridays! I am way late on this one, but I suppose better late than never. Today, I'm highlighting a record that came out in the year 2013. This was a fantastic year for music. I just looked at the playlist that I made for the year 2013 and it is completely stacked. There is a ton of music on that thing. I had a lot of favorite records that year, one being the Paramore Self-Titled record. I think that record is their best record. Their opus, if you will. But, today, I'm highlighting another female-fronted band from Australia. The record comes from the band Tonight Alive on Fearless Records. The album is called "The Other Side". The record was released on September 6th. It was produced by Dave Petrovic and mixed by Dan Korneff. The Other Side is the second studio album by Australian rock band Tonight Alive. This record sounds amazing. It's got guitar riffs. This band grew up listening to bands like Thrice and Rufio and you can hear the influence in their music. The album is full of hooks. Jenna McDougall has a fantastic voice. She's got her own voice, too. She's not just another Hailey Williams. McDougall explained that there is "a lot more cohesive [because] I know my voice a lot better. I'm excited because the songs have got a very pop structure but [they've] still got a lot of edge."Vocalist Jenna McDougall spoke to Alternative Press about the record:"There are definitely some sad songs on the album, and I think there are a few heartbreakers, but there are also songs like 'The Fire' that's a super-liberating, empowering punk song. I'm so proud of that song because the lyrics are really passionate, affirmative and positive, but the music is really aggressive. "...but I think this album is really about finding our sound but at the same time also accepting that we don't have one particular sound. Not all our songs are going to be the same, and you can't put them under the same umbrella. Some of them are poppy, some of them are really heavy and some of them are somewhere in the middle. We found a balance on this record, and I'm proud of that because I think it's just being true as human beings. You can be at both ends of the scale." I am a singer, producer, songwriter, musician and vocal coach. My journey began at the age of 8 with the guitar, then continued with the piano and at the age of 14 I began my singing studies. So I have dedicated my entire life to music. Over the years I have gained many experiences of all kinds, from musicals and tours in theaters (company Fabula Musicae), to numerous live situations in Italy and abroad. Among the most significant shows of my career, I must undoubtedly mention the performance with Jennifer Batten (former Michael Jackson guitarist), the South American tour with Blaze Bayley (former Iron Maiden singer), show in Riga (Latvia) with Sabaton, show in St. Petersburg with Lacuna Coil, a tour piece with Arch Enemy in Russia, a tour piece with At the Gates in Russia, participation in the MetalDays 2019 Festival on the main stage. In the studio I worked on independent productions and collaborated several times with the dysFUNCTION team (producers and collaborators of Fear Factory, Logan Mader, Dan Korneff, Tue Madsen, Bjorn Strid, John Wetton etc). Like JaKe X, in September 2019 I released the first single A SHIP SAILING NOWHERE. Subsequently, in December 2019 the second single MADE OF DREAMS was released, for which I managed entirely music, lyrics, composition, arrangements and production. In April 2020 the third single CIVILIZATION is released, featuring and co-produced with the American artist PoetED. In September the fourth single Till You Find Your Heart is released, accompanied by the first video clip. www.Jakexmusic.com
