What compels an American combat veteran to risk everything and smuggle suitcases of wine and vodka out of a war zone?In this eye-opening episode of Thrive Loud with Lou Diamond, Lou sits down with Sam Lerman, founder of Spirit Worldwide—a venture that's bringing the finest Ukrainian wine and vodka to the United States while fueling life-saving humanitarian efforts back in Ukraine. Sam's journey began not as a business strategy, but as a deployment: a seasoned military and defense industry expert, Sam entered Ukraine at the height of the Russian invasion to help equip and train the Ukrainian armed forces. But what started as a few weeks in a war-torn safe house soon turned into a life-changing mission, blending Sam's love of Ukraine's people, culture—and surprisingly world-class spirits—with a new entrepreneurial purpose.Key highlights from this episode:Sam's powerful origin story: from U.S. Army service to front-line procurement and advisory roles during the Ukraine invasionThe clandestine (and sometimes comedic) adventures of smuggling Ukrainian wine and vodka for friends and familyWhy few Americans have ever tasted high-end Ukrainian spirits—and how Soviet history and geopolitics played a roleThe birth of Spirit Worldwide and its unique business model: every bottle supports landmine removal and humanitarian work in Ukraine, with 15% of profits pledged to life-saving initiativesUkraine's global wine history, cultural flavor, and the astonishing international success of their vodkas (including double gold awards at U.S. competitions)The real energy, resilience, and daily life inside Ukraine from someone who's lived through the war up closeEntrepreneurial lessons: navigating the U.S. alcohol industry from scratch, managing regulatory chaos, and building a brand that creates both impact and awarenessThis episode is not just about spirits—it's about true spirit in the face of adversity, and how a love for culture and people can fuel world-changing business. The government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic was such a naked power grab on such an unprecedented scale that, even five years later, we are still struggling to hold the responsible parties accountable and to even fully process what happened. One unintended consequence of lockdowns, however, was exposing some ugly truths about who is really in charge in America. Matt Kibbe sits down with Debbie Lerman, author of “The Deep State Goes Viral,” to talk about whether our elected officials actually have the power to change things or whether someone else is pulling the strings. The word democracy means rule by the people, and we like to tell ourselves that our politicians are bound by the consent of the governed. In a post-COVID world, however, it's becoming less and less apparent whether that remains the case in America.
Can we finally address the massive elephant (and donkey) in the room? The scourge of corruption infecting BOTH political parties, Biden AND Trump? It really makes you wonder doesn't it?The betrayals are breathtaking, the flip flops are legendary, the storylines have become not only unbelievable but completely laughable. And we'd all be laughing if the ruling class weren't so damn dangerous to our basic freedom and human survival. The systemic and frankly obvious corruption in Washington, DC among the political and corporate class has become a real problem and it's threatening us with potential WWIII and another round of brutal lockdowns.Today we revisit the fascist ‘Lockdown of 2020' which is being erased from history with researcher and liberty advocate Debbie Lerman.Wartime chaos, political corruption and market volatility are making GOLD & SILVER more attractive than ever. I wanted to have Dan on the show to learn more about the inner workings of the mysterious private tutor world. When I was coming up, private tutors were hardly a thing; now, they can be a difference maker. Access to elite educational opportunities is a key line of division in our fracturing society and, while in education we tend to look for systemic solutions, what's going on with private tutors suggests that individual intervention may be where we want to focus. Tune in to this fascinating conversation to learn:Why parents around the world are willing to pay people like Dan upwards of $2000 per hour to help their kids do better on standardized testsWhat close reading is and why it's the secret to standardized test success Just what is being measured by standardized tests, and why should we care about itWhy, despite their issues and limitations, many schools are turning back to standardized test scores to help sort candidatesHow the best schools in the world are designed to create lifelong learners rather than for information/curriculum deliveryAnd Much, much moreConnect with Nick Halaris: Nick Halaris website and newletter (sign up!) Question - "How does Jhana meditation simplify experience to facilitate insight and cognitive flexibility?" John Vervaeke is joined by Mark Miller, Rick Repetti, to explore the intersection of predictive processing, relevance realization, and embodied cognition in contemplative practices. They introduce PhD candidate Jonas Mago, who discusses his research on Jhana meditation and its impact on cognitive flexibility and insight. The conversation touches on contrasting Jhana practices with charismatic Christian traditions such as speaking in tongues. They also explore how Jhana states temporarily reduce the complexity of perception, allowing practitioners to observe the construction and deconstruction of their experiential models. The neuroscientific evidence provided, such as changes in brain responses during these states, adds depth to this exploration, illustrating how such simplification can lead to profound insights. Mark Miller, a philosopher and cognitive scientist, holds a senior research fellowship at Monash University's Center for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies in Australia, with affiliations at the University of Toronto and Hokkaido University in Japan. His work, which dives into the interplay between human thought, technology's impact on well-being, and human-computer interaction, is at the forefront of integrating cognitive neuroscience with philosophical inquiry. Rick Repetti is Professor of Philosophy at Kingsborough Community College, CUNY, USA. He is the author of The Counterfactual Theory of Free Will (2010), as well as several articles on Buddhism, meditation, free will, and philosophy of religion. Jonas Mago is a cognitive neuroscientist and wellbeing aficionado, deeply invested in understanding the cognitive and neurobiological mechanisms underlying human flourishing. His research explores contemplative practices designed to cultivate wholesome states of mind—spanning meditation, prayer, collective cultural rituals, and psychedelic therapies. I approach these topics from an interdisciplinary perspective, integrating cognitive science, neurobiology, computational modeling, and phenomenology to investigate mechanisms of self-regulation and transformation. He is currently pursuing my doctoral studies in Neuroscience at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Michael Lifshitz, with co-supervision from Prof. Dr. Karl Friston. His academic journey includes a master's degree in Mind, Language, and Embodied Cognition from the University of Edinburgh (UK) and undergraduate studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Maastricht (Netherlands). And their final conclusion? We should do it again, harder with a few tweaks. So … Our politicians have concluded (after consulting with the experts & bureaucrats) that despite being wrong about everything, no one should be held accountable, we should all come together in unity and we (the little people crushed by their arrogance, depravity and incompetence) must definitely regain trust in them to do it again harder the next time. This is the circus we live in today.Glaringly omitted from the After Action Review of the Covid-19 Pandemic: The Lessons Learned and a Path Forward, by the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic were any meaningful conclusions regarding death and injury from COVID jabs. In fact the report concluded that the COVID bio-weapons saved millions of lives as reported by Steve Kirsch in a recent Substack. Also omitted? Any admission of the FACT that the COVID policy response was not actually policy response at all. Every mitigation effort discussed in this report was likely crafted and deployed from central command. COVID was a massive, international military operation as reported by Lerman, Latypova and Watt and while this is largely undisputed, it is no longer spoken of in polite circles.Once again the limited hangout rears its ugly head. The GREAT lies (the military coup d'état and their killer shots) are obscured in a sea of half truths and benign admissions by politicians and bureaucrats from both sides of the political isle.Their ultimate goal is to preserve the status quo. We seek to upend it, so buckle up because 2025 is going to be bumpy!Tune in TODAY ———>https://rumble.com/v5xks72-the-covid-report-is-out-everything-they-told-us-was-a-lie-and-everything-th.htmlPlease Support Our Sponsors:Colonial Metals Group is the company Shannon trusts for all her metals purchases! My client Jill Lerman is a gift to moms everywhere. Especially those who want to gift their kiddos the ability to engage themselves in self-directed play as soon as possible, and as developmentally appropriate as possible as well. Luckily, Jill happens to be an expert in this area. She helps overwhelmed parents & caretakers to connect and engage with their little ones through simple invitations to play to help make parenting feel more joyful and manageable. We had an amazing conversation around how working together we created a business plan that felt doable as a mom to a young daughter herself and how encouraging independent play has helped her work from home and be a mindful mama as she does so and some tips for you to do the same. Featured on the podcast: Check out Jill's own podcast here and her website where you can learn how to work with her one on one, or join her monthly Playful Parenting membership. https://www.jillybeansnyc.com/ Grab Jill's free guide on how to create more independent play in your child's world too here. I mean, we've talked about measuring assent, preferences for treatments, chaining, and concurrent schedules. Finally, all the great tastes that go great together in one episode! But where did the concurrent chains arrangement come from? And how might such a procedure be used to assess preference for different treatment types? Does it work for everyone? As a state, Alaska has never had the death penalty. It was abolished in 1957, two years before Alaska became the 49th state in the union. However, from 1869 until 1957, twelve male felons were hanged for murder, robbery, and other crimes. This is the story about the unequal application of the death penalty in Alaska and why capital punishment was abolished in the state. Sources: Heaton, John W.
