On this morning's episode of the Metal Breakdown Daily, we are tracking a historic day of massive autumn tour announcements and a definitive truth bomb from one of extreme metal's greatest minds. First, we break down the major news from Scranton alternative metal titans Motionless In White. The band has officially shattered their silence to reveal the second leg of The Sweat And Blood Tour, booking a massive fall 2026 arena run. We give you the complete lineup featuring direct support from Dayseeker, alongside The Devil Wears Prada and Dark Divine, plus details on how to grab early tickets right now using the exclusive Blabbermouth presale code. Next, we shift to Mastodon, who are channeling an incredibly chaotic year of personal tragedy into their newly revealed headlining trek: The Poisonous Weapons Tour. Running throughout September and October, the nationwide run features an elite atmospheric post-metal package with Deafheaven and Alcest. We take you inside the deeply emotional inspiration behind their new Loma Vista standalone single, "Your Ghost Again", and look at drummer Brann Dailor's raw reflections on grieving the loss of his mother and late guitarist Brent Hinds while tracking the new music. Finally, we pull from our exclusive feature interview with the mad scientist himself, Devin Townsend. We asked Devin the ultimate question: Does he get sick of fans constantly begging for a Strapping Young Lad reunion? His brilliant, self-aware response is a masterclass in artistic growth. We discuss why he is deeply honored by the legacy, but why that door remains firmly shut because he refuses to drag his 25-year-old past mental trauma onto a modern touring stage.

This week, we're scratching The Itch for etiquette! The guys caught a trio of VERY different shows with one thing in common: concertgoers in need of friendly reminders about how to act. But that's what we're here for, right? That and giggles. First, it's an early Father's Day as Dan takes his dad to see Itch guest Kenny Wayne Shepherd on his Ledbetter Heights 30th anniversary tour, where nostalgia and mastery were both on display. Then, Dan pivots to being the dad himself, as he and Hannah take their sons (and KC!) to see Bring Me the Horizon, Motionless in White, The Plot in You, and Amira Elfeky at a show that would gain national rock news attention for a rather unpleasant reason. (Don't worry, it had nothing to do with us.) And finally, we cover Pointfest for the sixth year in a row. But when a show's headliner is unbearably boring, the rest of the lineup has a lot of weight to pull. Did they succeed? Listen to find out as Dan catches Magnolia Park, From Ashes to New, Highly Suspect, Mammoth, and Blue October! And stay to the end for an etiquette proposal that you're sure to have an opinion on! Casting A Sonic Spell With BAILEY SPINN

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersRising rock force Bailey Spinn is casting a spell with her hypnotic new single, “Voodoo,” out Friday, May 15. Dark, addictive, and laced with attitude, the track leans into a moody rock soundscape built on pulsing production, gritty guitars, and Bailey's signature bite. Co-written and produced by Jon Lundin (FEVER 333, State Champs, Senses Fail), “voodoo” captures the intoxicating push-and-pull of parasocial relationships. With its haunting atmosphere and cathartic chorus, the track feels tailor-made for late-night drives and scream-at-the-top-of-your-lungs moments alike. “Voodoo” follows Bailey's biting anti-Valentine's Day anthem “Homicide,” along with standout singles “Critical” and “Fear Of Going Out,” which earned praise in the press and showed the artist venturing into heavier sonic territory. Artists such as Bailey Spinn are pivotal in bridging the divide many younger listeners find between pop music and the heavier elements, with their deviations into heavier landscapes lessening the blow felt by some growing musical tastebuds when it comes to rock and metal. Bailey is perhaps at the forefront of the current transition, mixing pop, punk, rock and attitude into an easily digestable sonic experience that acts as an ideal stepping stone between a plethora of genres.HEAVY sat down with Bailey to discuss her new single Voodoo and her shift into heavier territory."I definitely like to do a little bit of metalcore," she smiled. "I like to get as close to a metal song as I can, but I also don't know how to scream so I love to teeter on the line of how far can I go without screaming (laughs). There's a really heavier, breakdown bit - as I love to do - and I really wanted to do something dark and a little bit scary. A lot of my imagery for the song was haunted and a bit scary, kind of based around a voodoo doll."Voodoo continues Bailey's recent flirtation with heavier music, leading HEAVY to ask if it is a conscious shift towards such elements, orif it has been more of a natural progression."I think it definitely was a conscious shift," she nodded. "I had tried to put some heavier songs on the past album and they didn't really feel like a good fit at the time. When I was writing the new stuff, I kept trying to do pop rock and it just wasn't sitting with me as much as it used to. I had been really diving into listening to heavier music and going to a lot of heavier festivals myself, and what I was inspired by was very different from what I started out being inspired by. Avril Lavigne and Paramore moved to (bands like) Bring Me the Horizon and Pierce the Veil and Motionless In White and started veering more heavy than poppy. So I decided I wanted to try heavier and I loved it. The first song, I just felt right when I did it. I was like, I think this is the right step for me."In the full interview Bailey discusses Voodoo in greater detail as well as her gradual shift into heavier music. She describes her influences and how they have impacted her music, including the use of breakdowns in her songs.Bailey addresses the potential for younger, existing fans to be confused at her shifting between genres, as well as the importance of staying true to yourself and inviting listeners to experience such changes with you. She discussed her new album and how the three singles released so far reflect the overall sonic structure of the album, as well as the personal nature of her lyrics and how they connect with her fanbase. Her transition from TikTok personality into cover songs and ultimately original music was discussed, including different demands each platform can create and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

For over 20 years, the quintet — Chris Motionless [vocals], Ricky Olson [guitar], Ryan Sitkowski [guitar], Vinny Mauro [drums], and Justin Morrow [bass] — have resided in their own shadowy corner of alternative music and culture. The group's uncanny alchemy of metal, hardcore, goth, industrial, and electronic has magnetically attracted an ardent audience, fueling a quiet rise out of the Rust Belt and into arenas as a headlining force of nature. Their D.I.Y. work ethic drives the evolution of an immersive world where stunning visuals match the scope of the sound. The collective come full circle on their seventh full-length offering Decades. For as much as it conjures their signature style, the LP sees them continue to confidently cut a path through uncharted territory, spreading a little darkness in their wake.”Hosted by: Luke = https://www.youtube.com/@rockednet Alex = https://www.youtube.com/@voiceofalex

With influences ranging from Motionless In White, Dayseeker, and Bad Omens, Trauma Therapy's goal is to connect with listeners by sharing their real life experiences with mental health and perseverance through trauma. That goal is embodied in Trauma Therapy's debut single "Fix My Heart." The emotionally charged track deals with singer Chris Carrington's real life experiences as a therapy patient, and the everyday happenings that accompanied his coping and healing journey. Released on August 23rd, "Fix My Heart" also has an equally emotional music video which features Chris' wife, Jill, who is the lead singer in Charlotte-based rock band Forever May Fall.   Since its release, "Fix My Heart" is already resonating with music fans. In less than a month, the music video is nearing 10,000 views on YouTube, while the single is approaching 10,000 streams on Spotify alone. Working with the likes of Pangea Productions (Killakoi), Will Baker (Hollow Intent), Cody Weissinger (The Funeral Portrait), and Colt Crevar (Forever May Fall), Trauma Therapy is just scratching the surface of their potential and creativity in the metalcore and modern rock realms, with more music on the way. In this episode, Chris and drummer Aaron Kirkland talk with Mike about how they linked up for Trauma Therapy, how they got into music, Chris' mental health journey, how "Fix My Heart" came to be, Jill's support and companionship through Chris' struggles and healing, the music they're working on, and more. Send us a Text Message.Danny Worsnop, born on September 4, 1990, in Beverley, East Yorkshire, England, is best known as the lead vocalist of the British rock band Asking Alexandria. His distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence have been central to the band's success and evolution over the years.Worsnop co-founded Asking Alexandria in 2008 alongside guitarist Ben Bruce. The band quickly gained traction in the metalcore scene with their debut album, Stand Up and Scream, released in 2009. This album was characterized by its heavy breakdowns, electronic elements, and Worsnop's powerful screams and melodic singing. It helped establish the band as a force within the genre, and Worsnop's dynamic vocal abilities were a significant factor in this rise.Following the success of their debut, Asking Alexandria released Reckless & Relentless in 2011. This album marked a shift towards a more rock-oriented sound while retaining their metalcore roots. Worsnop's versatility as a vocalist was showcased through his ability to switch seamlessly between harsh and clean vocals, contributing to the album's critical and commercial success. In 2013, the band released From Death to Destiny, further evolving their sound. This album leaned more towards hard rock and featured Worsnop exploring a wider range of vocal styles. His performance on tracks like "The Death of Me" and "Moving On" highlighted his growth as a singer and songwriter. However, in 2015, Worsnop parted ways with Asking Alexandria to focus on other musical endeavors, including his rock band We Are Harlot and a solo career. During this period, he explored different genres, showcasing his versatility as an artist. His solo work, particularly the album The Long Road Home, delved into country and blues influences, demonstrating his ability to adapt and excel in various musical styles. In a surprising turn of events, Worsnop rejoined Asking Alexandria in 2016. We had the pleasure of interviewing Silent Planet over Zoom video!Every once in a while, wildflowers will sprout en masse in the middle of the California desert. Known as a “SUPERBLOOM,”this phenomenon paints lush colors across a traditionally arid and barren landscape. The emergence and evolution of Silent Planet mirrors this phenomenon. Since 2009, the California quartet—Garrett Russell [vocals, guitar], Mitchell Stark [guitar], Alex Camerena [drums], and Nick Pocock [bass]—have set themselves apart in the realm of heavy music. Amplifying hypnotic hooks across alternately raw and rich soundscapes steeped in hardcore, post-rock, metal, and ambient textures, the award-winning group has generated tens of millions of streams and earned tastemaker praise. Now, the musicians tell a story as massive as their sound on their aptly titled fifth full-length offering, SUPERBLOOM [Solid State Records].Silent Planet has consistently transfixed a diehard fanbase. The group dropped a string of acclaimed albums, including The Night God Slept [2014], Everything Was Sound [2016], When The End Began [2018], and Iridescent [2021]—which Hysteria hailed as “a vulnerable and emotional LP.” Not to mention, album standout “Trilogy” generated 5.3 million Spotify streams to sit alongside their genre-bending triumph “Panic Room” from the 2016 release, currently at 5 million. The guys notably took home “Best Underground Band” at the 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards and toured with the likes of Motionless In White, August Burns Red, Beartooth, and The Contortionist.Over the course of two years, they recorded what would become SUPERBLOOM in Woodland Hills, CA alongside longtime producer and frequent collaborator Daniel Braunstein. A jarring turn of events split the process into two seasons. Trekking through a Wyoming snowstorm in November 2022, Silent Planet survived a vehicle accident. The van flipped over, leaving the group laying in the wreckage of a bitter Wyoming snowstorm as Garrett was hospitalized with a fractured back and head wound requiring stitches.Along the way, they settled on a conceptual framework, expanding the scope of their vision like never before.Silent Planet initially teased the record with “:Signal:” followed by “Antimatter.” On the latter, spacey electronic transmissions buzz. Pivoting on a dime, it dissolves into a stomping industrial groove offset by synth swells.“It's the conclusion of the story we're telling,” he says. “This is the finale. There are different levels of a close encounter. It's a close encounter of the fifth kind. It's the destination of the music.”In the end, Silent Planet continues to elevate and uplift heavy music to another dimension. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing SAUL over Zoom video!Saul issue a call for connection in their music. The Iowa quartet—brothers Blake Bedsaul [lead vocals] and Zach Bedsaul [lead guitar, backup vocals], William McIlravy [bass, backup vocals], and Myles Clayborne [drums]—continue to bring audiences together with a one-two punch of precise and pummeling metallic grooves and towering magnetic melodies. Amassing tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from Revolver, Guitar World, Loudwire, and many more, the group fortify an unbreakable bond with listeners on their second full-length offering, THIS IS IT…THE END OF EVERYTHING [Spinefarm].Saul emerged out of the Midwest in 2017 and tirelessly bulldozed a path to the forefront of modern rock. They notably performed alongside everyone from Motionless In White, Atreyu, August Burns Red, Crown The Empire, Bush, and 10 Years to HELLYEAH and Nonpoint in addition to gracing the stages of festivals, including Rebel Rock, Rock Fest, Rock USA, Inkcarceration, and Blue Ridge Rock Fest with Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, and Slipknot. The group independently landed a bona fide hit in the form of “Brother”—an homage to the co-founders' late brother Caleb. It marked their first #1 on Sirius/XM Octane in addition to gathering over 9 million Spotify streams and paving the way for their 2020 full-length debut, Rise As Equals. Co-written with David Draiman of Disturbed, “King Of Misery” reeled in 3.7 million Spotify streams, while “Trial By Fire” also surpassed 3 million Spotify streams. Of the former, American Songwriter praised“‘King of Misery' wasted no time jumping into the heavy mainstream riffs that Saul set out to wrangle,” and Outburn hailed its “futuristic and cinematic video.”Expanding the sonic palette, the guys collaborated with producer Kile Odell [Motionless In White, Nita Strauss] this time around. They initially teased this chapter with “JACK & JILL,” which tempers a hypnotic harmony with a heavy groove. On its heels, they unleashed the single “A MILLION MILES.” Co-written with Johnny Andrews [Three Days Grace, Starset, Theory of a Deadman], a seesawing riff and electrifying melody give way to a chant-able chorus laced with raw emotion befitting of the central theme.Hummable keys set the tone for “RUNAWAY,” dissolving into a harmonic riff. The breathy verses break like a wave on a refrain tailor-made for a live singalong, “Treat me like a runaway, because I'm vanishing. I don't think I'll be missed.”An ominous sample snaps into a pummeling chug on the opener “TOOTH & NAIL.” Clean vocals snake through the verses towards a warning, “There's no escape.”Then, there's “BETTER AS A MEMORY.” It swings between schizophrenic extremes highlighted by unpredictable instrumental dynamics and a heart-wrenching vocal performance, “Deep down you know, I'd be better as a memory.”In the end, Saul create the soundtrack for breaking free.We want to hear from you!
