This week, we join a roundtable discussion with Night Demon band and crew as they recount their recollections of their fall 2024 North American tour supporting King Diamond and Overkill. They discuss the logistics of being on such a large-scale tour with such a massive production. They also describe their feelings of detachment upon playing a seated show in Houston, TX where the venue was selling their merch for them. And they share memories of a grueling 14-hour drive to Cincinnati, OH under a full moon.LINKSRandy's Smokehouse - https://www.facebook.com/NB.BBQ/Thomas Mantell - Mantell UFO incident - Wikipedia Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! 35 Years Of Fear With DINO CAZERES From FEAR FACTORY

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Angela CroudaceOne can't overstate the size of the FEAR FACTORY boot print on the neck of heavy metal. Unleashing influential albums with devastating anthems for 35 years now, they are widely recognized as both crucial and innovative in extreme metal circles. FEAR FACTORY manufactured, demanufactured, and remanufactured a sound that reverberates across several subgenres. They perfected an explosive blend of staccato paint-stripping riffs, industrial- tinged drums, electronic flourishes, and a scream/sing dichotomy, all of which became staples in heavy music, ever since the group first emerged in L.A.Celebrating 35 Years Of Fear, FEAR FACTORY are dialing in a Cybernetic Domination of Australia for their first full headlining tour in 10 years and finally for New Zealand, they perform for the first time since 2012!The signature sounds, concepts, and passions remain, as FEAR FACTORY salutes its past, present, and future. HEAVY caught up with guitarist Dino Cazeres to find out more."We've been coming to Australia since 1993," he began. "This is gonna be our 15th time there, and I can't wait to get there. We have a huge catalogue of songs to sift through and create a perfect set for a killer live show in Australia."Fear Factory often deal with subjects of dystopia and control, the rise of the machines being a dominant landscape. Which begs the question, does Dino see the world today as closer to those themes than when the band first started?"100%," he nodded. "And I believe we are at fault, you know what I mean? We're the ones who are allowing this to happen. Sure, there are higher people who are making these kind of executive decisions and developing this technology, but a lot of the stuff that we sang about in the past has definitely come to fruition, and it's just… this technology's gonna keep on evolving."In the full interview, we covered Fear Factory's current creative state, touring plans, and forthcoming releases, with Dino explaining his songwriting and performance perspective. Dino described himself as a rhythmic writer who composes riffs with drum patterns in mind and said he writes whatever he feels, whether melodic or brutal; he noted his performance approach and enjoyment of entertaining fans remain consistent with his work since the 1990s. The conversation addressed touring improvements, and emphasized that studio collaboration keeps the project enjoyable and motivating. Dino confirmed that new singles and a new Fear Factory record will be released soon and directed fans to fearfactory.com for tour dates and VIP packages and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

- I LA er Rage Against The Machines single “Killing In The Name of” selve kernen af en rasende rap metal-revolution, mens Bodycount heller ikke lægger fingre imellem på deres debutalbum. - Nirvanas Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain og Alice in Chains-sanger Layne Staley dyrker danske Mercyful Fate i stor stil.

We dive into Fear Factory for the first time ever on the pod, and this is a concept album: just ask the band members. Or maybe only ask one of them, because if you compare all of their answers, no one is *really* sure what this album is about. What we DO know is that Police 2000 are involved. An album that flirts with nu-metal but never quite gets there, we both agree that Fear Factory would've been better off doing a full Nu turn, because that's when they're at their best. "Edgecrusher" is an all-time Nu song and every song has moments where the band sounds amazing. In between that, it's Burton C. Bell singing pretty badly, some pretty boring guitar parts, a whack of 6-minute songs, and a WHOLE lot of lore that imagines a dystopian world not unlike every dystopia you've ever heard of before, one where...get this...machine begins to rule man. I know, crazy, right? If you wanna get even more crazy, why not donate to the show? For just $4/month you'll get access to THREE brand-new bonus episodes every damn month. He dissects the true cause of snow-shoveling deaths, arguing that poor shovel design and sudden exertion—not the snow itself—are the real killers. The conversation shifts to a controversial take on New York's "homeless" crisis, which Lionel rebrands as a mental health emergency that requires warehousing rather than just outreach. Finally, he scoffs at the Doomsday Clock's move to "85 seconds to midnight," dismissing it as fear-mongering by oligarchs to maintain control. Learn more about your ad choices. For our first episode of 2026 we're back in relatively recent times (although longer ago than you'd expect 2010 to be!), where we discuss our favourite songs of the year, including Electropop bangers, Blackened prog, & hour long noise jams, plus unexpected jazz appreciation, Beautiful baritone vocals, and the best mispronounciation of a member of Sigur Rós I've ever heard... We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Agalloch, S. Carey, Caribou, Clever Girl, El Goodo, Everything Everything, The Fall, Fear Factory, Foals, Ben Folds and Nick Hornby, Goldfrapp, Gorillas ft Gruff Rhys and De La Soul, John Grant, Grinderman, Ihsahn, ILIKETRAINS, Jónsi, Kayo Dot, LCD Soundsystem, Liars, Linkin Park, Massive Attack, Merzbow, Dan Michaelson, The National, Red Sparowes, Robyn, Teenage Fanclub, Terror, & Warpaint Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/50k4w0QBaammhPgSCnUj0A?si=05cc225aed9d4e12Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. Helms Deep, a band forged in the fires of 2017 by the guitar-slinging, vocal-cord-abusing Alex Sciortino, had a vision: to resurrect the raw, untamed spirit of 1980s speed/power metal. Think Riot, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, but with a twist of prog and fusion thrown in for good measure. Sciortino's songwriting draws from a vast well of inspiration, from the iconic metal bands of the '80s to the labyrinthine sounds of '70s rock, fusion, and prog. This project was brewing for about five years before Sciortino joined forces with the thunderous drumming of Mike Heller (Raven, Malignancy, ex-Fear Factory) and the earth-shaking bass of John Gallagher (Raven). Together, they crafted Helms Deep's debut album, Treacherous Ways. The album quickly caught the ear of Nameless Grave Records, who signed the band for an official release in 2023.And now, hot on the heels of their 2025 release, "Chasing the Dragon," Helms Deep is ready to unleash their sonic fury once more! After literal years of trying, one of Bryan's most beloved nu-metal albums, "Strictly Diesel", gets the P.O.D. Kast treatment, and it's probably no surprise that he still loves it...but John loves it too. A true testament of the era, it has all the production quality and heaviness of a late-90s nu-metal album from one of the rare bands that wasn't afraid to say they really liked Korn, Deftones, and Fear Factory, and tried to make an album that borrowed from all of them. We do bemoan the lack of a single on the album in a nu-metal era that demanded singles, and felt like that could've been the one piece the band was missing to truly catapult them to stardom. That and maybe that they admit they were drunk almost all of the time and they certainly were not smart, as Jonny Santos gives us one of the funniest quotes in the show's history. But hey, we love them and we love this album. If you want some more funny stuff, why not head on over to our Patreon? with all due respect to my many friends and loved ones who deeply enjoy the occasion, this week's program will not include a Halloween theme, Halloween music or any other sort of pandering, infantile bullshit designed to distract from the ongoing tire fire we're engulfed in. By all means, have a great time with your Halloween parties and however you choose to disguise yourselves. Sexy science denialist. Sexy utility infielder. Sexy sex worker. Sexy drum tech for Dream Theater (admittedly, an oxymoron) while you're playing dress up, back here in stupidville formerly known as the USA, we're gonna cut off SNAP benefits and leave millions hungry. Is that in anyway shape or form mitigated by handing out toxic confections under threat of vandalism? I think you already know where i stand on this, but for two hours this morning I will grudgingly pretend to care where _you_ stand on this, provided you can get past my call screener (sexy drum tech for KIng's X).

This month we're in the slightly more recent past as we tackle 2015 which was only 18 months before the podcast began. (although is allegedly a decade ago despite feeling like last week). There's ethereal pop, modern classical piano epics, unsettling hiphop and an interesting new conspiracy theory about the nation of Iceland. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Ahab, VLMV, Aurora, Julien Baker, The Chemical Brothers, Beck, Destroyer, Earl Sweatshirt, Envy, Father John Misty, Fear Factory, Ghost, Goatsnake, John Grant, Jamie XX, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kathryn Joseph, Kendrick Lamar, Lanterns On The Lake, Leprous, Little Mix, Low, Lubomry Melnyk, Pastel Ghost, Pinkshinyultrablast, Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Soley, Sufjan Stevens, Waxahatchee, Steven Wilson, & Wolf Alice. Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2eXXu2uUDKI5EhiuZeWlRS?si=61bb5362ccbb45d5Also, very excitingly Ian has just released his new album "Please Hesitate To Contact Me" under the name The Grief Executive. 33 minutes of ultra-eclectic office themed exasperation taking in influences from industrial metal, 90s r&b, hiphop & grindcore. You can find it on bandcamp here - https://thegriefexecutive.bandcamp.com/album/please-hesitate-to-contact-me or on Spotify here - https://open.spotify.com/album/681opO2y8aeWoKo3CVH95v?si=R3oz68GtQMCZ3XSJak8i8w. It's also on other music platforms such as apple music, amazon, YouTube etc. Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

Dope has titled this album "Felons and Revolutionaries" because they really want you to be invested in the idea they sold drugs to fund the making of it. And I guess because they think they have revolutionary ideas about politics, most of which boil down to "America is bad" and "society is bad and/or crazy". Whether or not they actually sold drugs is up for debate, but we dig into their debut that borrows a lot from Marilyn Manson and would ride the wave of industrial-tinged nu-metal that bands like Static-X, Powerman 5000 and Fear Factory would also surf on. The album isn't bad but the lyrics certainly are as we try to make sense of where they fit then and where they fit now in the overall history of nu-metal. Plus, John finally sees Korn for the first time as Bryan preps to take his co-host of Guys, Chris, to do the same. If you want to donate to the show for the first time, it's very easy! This week on The Trawl, logic takes a holiday and truth is just a vibe.Marina Purkiss and Jemma Forte wade into yet another week where the internet resembles less a town square and more a hall of mirrors. There's a man convinced liberals hate breakfast, a woman who's rewriting reality on live radio, and a politician who's untethered from the facts yet remains unchallenged. The ladies begin by talking a look at Thomas Skinner and his mash-based brand of banter, a social media showdown that's pure gravy. Between 1989 and 2004, the self-dubbed “hatecore” madmen DAMAGED erupted from the rural town of Ballarat and onto the Australian metal scene, fusing unhinged aggression with the most extreme elements of of black metal, grindcore, and death metal. With releases like Do Not Spit, Token Remedies Research, and the EP Passive Backseat Demon Engines, DAMAGED unleashed a feral energy that cemented their status as Australia's premier live metal act of the '90s. At a time when international bands rarely travelled to Oz's shores, the band shared the stage with heavyweights like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory, and many more. After a decade incensed with internal turmoil, DAMAGED entered the studio in 2000 alongside Brutal Truth frontman Kevin Sharp to record what would become their final album, Purified in Pain.25 years on, Purified in Pain remains a divisive swan song from a localized, but legendary legacy. This week we are joined by founding member Matt “Skitz” Sanders to unpack the album's story and honor the undefinable chaos, magic, and chemistry it captured.Recommendations:Heaven's Gate - Tales From a Blistering ParadiseFull of Hell - Broken Sword, Rotten ShieldConan - Violence DimensionANGELL - Veiled by WoeSequestrum / Sněť - SplitSoils of Fate - Crime SyndicateFollow Matt "Skitz" SandersInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/blastabyss/Follow Atræ BilisFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/atraebilis/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atraebilis/Follow Fulci RotsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/fulcirots/Website: https://fulcirots.bigcartel.com/For all updates on Riff Worship follow us on Instagram and TwitterWatch Riff Worship on YouTubeWatch Review's from the Dylbozer's DinCheck out our official playlists:Riffs on Repeat (Spotify)Hits from the Crypt (Apple)
