Ekko Park frontman Joe Walsh wrote the lyrics to 'Bassano Sky' – this week's Making Tracks feature – when the band was on their first tour in Italy. "I was in this tiny little Italian car which was being driven by the drummer of Virtual Time, the Italian band we were touring with. Myself and Mene (the drummer) had the wildest conversation through a fog of little to no understanding of each others' languages and the insane winding country roads of Bassano Del Grappa. It was truly amazing. This is a really special song for me personally and I know a real favourite of the bands as a whole."
Joe & Danny get drunk. Joe Walsh is constantly touring with Jordan Luck Band and his own band Ekko Park. Almost two years ago Joe was sitting on a completed Ekko Park album (Horizon) that hadn't yet been released. In the lead up Joe suggested we record an episode with a focus on the lyrics and back story to the album and in true Irish style, we met at the pub for a pre-recording drink. Five Guinness each later we Ubered back to the studio, opened a bottle of red and fell backwards into an honest, funny and meaningful conversation. We saved the episode for a future release and here we are. Join us for a drink!Photo credit: David Dunham

Bryan Bell has been a firm fixture of the New Zealand music scene for many years. Throughout the 1990s he fronted his band the Dead Flowers, releasing three albums, touring constantly and supporting bands like Guns n Roses and Pearl Jam. When The Dead Flowers wrapped, he was invited to join the Jordan Luck Band and later Ekko Park. Bryan’s views and his approach to his career are refreshingly pragmatic. He’s not interested in hype or posturing, he’s simply a hard working musician who loves making music and loves working with his friends. On our 70th episode Danny and Bryan launch right into an action packed conversation about Bryan’s career and surviving the music industry long term. This one’s a goodie. Put it in ya!
Joe Walsh is the energetic frontman of Ekko Park and member of the Jordan Luck Band. Less than a week before this episode was recorded, Ekko Park finished recording their new album. Danny and Joe sat down on a Tuesday afternoon and discussed how the album was made and the events that inspired the bands new musical direction. They also discussed Joe’s childhood and family, what it was like growing up in a turbulent Northern Ireland, how he met Jordan Luck and eventually moved to New Zealand, their unexpected success in Italy, his passion for good lyrics and much more. Joe is a top guy, intelligent, passionate, funny and a true professional. Enjoy! (Photo by Mark Derricutt)
